I started personal training sessions with Luis at Spite Fitness about two months ago. It’s been a game-changer for my physical and mental health. Luis is attentive and friendly and doesn’t make me feel intimidated about working out. I also love the welcoming, inclusive, and community-oriented vibes at Spite. Ryan also took a lot of time to find training times that work with my busy schedule as a working parent! Highly recommend for all fitness levels and whatever your experience is with strength training!

Love it here! This is the first gym I have ever stuck with. Super accommodating and welcoming. They will meet you where you are at and help you make modifications to workouts. Been going for almost a year and can’t imagine going anywhere else. They will also push you to do your best.

I feel so lucky to have found Spite even before moving to Santa Rosa…Ryan, Tadong and Shelly all have made me feel right at home and I’m reversing the decline of my long workout-less drive from Chicago in July. I've been a member at Spite Fitness for almost 6 months now and I am loving it!
The community based environment from the staff to all the members is unlike any gym I've been to in the past! The classes are fun, energetic, and upbeat while getting a full body work out. The group instructors are knowledgeable and attentive to the members in the class and will suggest alternative exercises to regress or progress depending on members fitness levels.

I did a 3-month training and exercise program directed by Ryan with the intent that I could look for a cruise I had planned. Ryan did an excellent job working with me to optimize a plan that would get me the results I was looking for (as I was planning to be shirtless 99% of the time, a bit conceited I know ;) ). But I was surprised that him and his team were able to instill in me how much better I felt when I was taking care of my body to the point where I did not indulge as gluttonously as I would have without their training. It is impressive how well the team did at conveying that taking care of my body is not only for looks but also for how good I felt on the day today. Also Ryan generously provided me with a few recipe books from previous programs that he had done and I still cook and make those recipes to this day.

I have a really hard time when it comes to gyms. As a plus size woman I am very self-conscious and have also be judged before people have even gotten to know me. I came to Spit fitness in an unusual way but when I did every person was kind and welcoming. Alex (trainer) and Ryan (owner) were the first people I met. Alex is warm kind with a big heart and welcomed me immediately. Ryan, on the other hand was a little intimidating at first, but once I realized the intimidation was actually more of a playful side of him and was his form of encouragement. It got a lot easier to work with him. He is someone who offers wisdom with his own personal experiences, and wants to see each person succeed, and will encourage people in a playful manner. He is full of energy, which contagious.
I have the wonderful privilege to be able to get some personal training session with Shelly. She kind knowledgeable and will also kick your butt in the best way as possible she is currently helping me to strengthen and work around several injuries and to help me stabilize my joints for hyper flexibility does so with great humor, knowledge and compassion. if you ever get a chance to, I highly recommend taking one of the classes with Luis absolutely amazing human being kind, compassionate, will also kick your butt with a smile in the best ways, if your having a rough time will be there to help not only with words of encouragement but helps you through even if it’s just helping to put equipment away. Is knowledgeable as well. I know I’ve been saying that about every single person but they all are.
Angela, I have not gotten a chance to work with. I’ve only seen her here and there, but she’s always been very kind and compassionate when I have interacted with her. I look forward to a day where I get a chance to work with her whether it’s a class or eventually one day, getting a chance to work One on one with her.
If you are someone like me who hesitates to work out not sure if you have a space where you feel safe or feel judged I recommend coming here and give the people a chance they will pleasantly surprise you. You may feel odd at first, but the more you get to know these people the more you find they are there to help and there are some of the most amazing human beings you will ever find. Spite Fitness is a really unique gym and one I highly recommend.

Starting a family has been the most rewarding time of my life. But it also has taken the idea of “dad bod” to something I wasn’t too happy with.
Enter Ryan, Shelly, Taddong and the family at Spite Fitness. I had found the people to help me get back to the ideal body but also to be ok with where my body is and that as long as I’m working, I’m living a better life.
There’s also a community in here that makes people feel safe, welcome and part of something special where no barriers, body types or whatever can stop you from being your best self.
Then there’s the DJ fitness class, massage therapy and chiropractic services. Ya, it all here.
Be better in Spite of all the challenges. That’s the way we do it.

My personal training sessions with Shelly at Spite Fitness are incredible. She is motivating, inspiring and pushes me beyond my comfort zones. Spite Fitness and all the trainers who work there are incredible. I have been training at Spite for about 6 months now and I feel like I belong there. The community is strong and incredibly supportive, the atmosphere is motivating and fun, and the gains (and losses) have been real! I started this year out at a whopping 306 lbs and am down to 275. I feel stronger, healthier and more focused. My confidence is soaring and my clothes are almost too large for me; I imagine I will need to buy new jeans by the end of the year. Spite Fitness offers a unique approach to personal training and their trainers REALLY go the extra mile to custom tailor routines for you! I am a HUGE Philadelphia Eagles fan and my last personal training session was specifically designed to train the muscle groups necessary to perform Saquon Barkley's legendary backwards hurdle. Who does that!? Spite does. Do yourself a favor and go see Ryan for a free week at the gym. You won't regret it. Do it in Spite of yourself!

Starting up with them has been amazing, my first week trial went so well i signed up for the year! The classes have been an amazing way to move my body and help keep me accountable. Ive paid for many gym memberships where i end up lacking the motivation to go, but seeing the same few (and new) faces at all the classes makes it way more fun. Everyone is super supportive and meets you at whatever stage in your fitness journey you are at. Its nice to not only have fun working out by building community, but to also not feel like you are being judged in anyway is a huge win in my book! As a queer curvy lady, I've been intimidated by the idea of going to gym for years. I didn't want to be judged, I felt self-conscious or awkward because I didn't know where to start or what to do, and I didn't want to feel like I was being looked at by others. I wanted a place to feel safe, feel comfortable, and feel like I can ask questions as I work towards bettering myself. Spite Fitness is that place!! 👌 They are LGBTQ+ and provide a wonderful atmosphere for working out alongside fellow nerds of all ages, shapes, and sizes. I finally feel motivated to go to gym! I've been going for half a year and I don't intend to stop. I've been finally losing weight and I can actually see changes as I get better energy and stamina. Ryan and his amazing team of Fitness instructors are friendly, open, kind, and invested in helping you find what works for you and your bodily needs. I’ve been going to Spite Fitness since they opened, and it’s hands down one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. The HIIT and circuit classes are always high energy and super effective — the coaches do a great job of pushing you while still making it fun. On top of that, the gym is open to use anytime for lifting, which is perfect for when I want to get in a solo workout. The vibe here is really motivating, and the community is welcoming. Huge shout out to Ryan for helping me get my mobility back! I have a connective tissue disorder that escalated severely in the past four years, and I was convinced that I'd lost most of the mobility in my hands/wrists permanently (in addition to other mobility and back issues.) After just a couple months of working out with him regularly and taking his advice on nutrition, I'm no longer experiencing pain when doing normal tasks like writing, typing, or food prep in the kitchen. Not only can I use my hands normally again, but I also have more balance and body mindfulness than I've had in my entire life. I'm not running into corners or stubbing my toes anymore, which was a multi-week occurrence. I couldn't be more grateful his help!

Ryan helped me "Get back on the Horse" with my Workouts! I had stopped regular exercise after some injuries playing Soccer and lifting too heavy and incorrectly. Before having training with Ryan, I was getting bad episodes of sciatic pain, shooting down my left leg, like my hamstring was a rusty guitar string getting tugged. Then I signed up with training sessions with Ryan and whenever I get the exercise he puts me through and as I cultivate the discipline to continue exercising more, my sciatic pain goes away. I first started working with Ryan on June 3, 2020. After being so uncomfortable with the way I looked (at least to myself) and the way I felt in my body, I reached out to him in May. I asked him if I could start working with him at the gym he was employed at, after Covid was over (haha). He told me that he was taking clients at his home, and that why not start right away? I dragged my feet and eventually agreed to meet with him the first week of June.
Let me tell you. When I first started working with Ryan, I was smoking cigarettes regularly, unhappy with my body, and could not do a single squat without a box! Now I am deadlifting at least 135 lbs (once I did 2 deadlifts of my body weight!), I do weighted squats with 50 lb kettlebells, have quit smoking (!!!), eat more healthily, and am feeling better in my own skin than I have ever in my life.
Ryan’s approach to personal training is firmly motivational, without being judgmental or abusive. I am so grateful to have him as part of my wellness team, and am excited to see what the future brings! I recommend him to any and every person looking to make a lifestyle change or to maintain and build on an already healthy lifestyle! Thanks so much, Ryan.

Early 2020 I made the decision to focus on my physical health for the first time at 36 years old. I was 395 pounds I'm sure on the right day I was over 400, so I started with a diet and got myself down to 365. I had reached the point where I wasn't getting results from diet and knew that exercise was the answer.
I have know Ryan at spite fitness for the better of 20 years and I started to notice his fitness journey over social media. I saw him become a personal trainer and the results fitness had on him and had the thought that thats what I needed. He made a post one day and I thought to myself "the next post he makes I'm going to call him!" And well... about 12 posts later I finally did.
When I came to our first session I knew absolutely nothing about fitness and as I've come to find out very little about my own body. Ryan took me trough my first squats and planks and got comfortable with the basic movements necessary to embark on a fitness journey. He work on me developing confidence in myself and pushed to bring my body places I hadn't known possible before. He's a great teacher and guide and is also super tolerant of me making up my own names for everything... which is important. Working with Ryan has completely changed my life, under his suggestion to "walk a couple times a week" I've now walked every day for the last 330 days.
Today I am 285 pounds and know myself better than ever before and I know that it's a direct result of my work.with Ryan at spite fitness. It's somewhere I feel safe and challenged and encouraged to be the best I can be. I wanted to learn fitness and find a trainer and I found that and so much more with Ryan and spite fitness.
