Coach Rhodes taught my Son and Daughter physical balance, stretching, how to box, weight train, run and be the best student athletes they can be. I have witness him get calls from NFL agents to train athletes. My daughter is now at UCLA and I put much of her confidence in what she achieved in training with Coach Rhodes. My Son Teddy has worked with Coach Rhodes as a trainer and Mentor to this day and has his sights set on the Air Force Academy. Coach Rhodes is more than a personal trainer; he loves and cares about present and future goals for clients as not only great athletes but most importantly, also prepares his clients (young and old) to have a positive impact on the world. He is a man of faith, and regardless of what God you pray to or do not pray to, his spirit of faith in each of his clients achieving their goals shines through. He is a unicorn--one of a kind.

Coach Rhodes is exceptional because one of our champion in wrestling from Senegal named « Siteu » was here to get ready for his fight for the country’s champion in title MODOU Lo and when with coach services that I was a witness because I took part in the presuming as well. We could all feel development in our muscles and mental and also in boxing he gave a lot of defense and offense techniques that made Our champion réalise the move he was making wrong and right.
I highly recommend him because as far as you go he becomes part of your family and the prices are super affordable. Thanks Coach Rhodes for everything.

I entered into the boxing ring for instruction with the CEO Jonathon (as per his LinkedIN.) He noticed my shirt that read, "Women are dope," made a face and then started commenting on it. He said, "Women are dope huh?" I said - yes and don't you forget it. I thought he was just poking fun at first, but then he repeated himself forcing the same response out of me and I could tell his tone was more aggressive than a basic (yet inappropriate) joke. Immediately I could tell he was triggered by my shirt, which is a gender equality shirt intended to send out a positive message about women to women. He then asked me why It doesn't say, "men are dope" on the back to counter the front. I told him it was implied and that women have been oppressed for centuries so I don't need to compliment men on my shirt. I told him he could wear a men are dope shirt if he wanted to. He told me he would get heat for that and I asked him why he thought that was the case. He didn't answer that but instead in a defensive aggressive tone he said all people have been oppressed, not just women. I said that's true but that's a separate subject and if he wanted to have a discussion we could after class. He ignored my request for him to stop talking and said a female client accused him of putting a man on his logo for his gym and that the logo could easily be a woman with short hair. Even though this comment was irrelevant I looked at the logo on the wall and it is very clear that it is a figure of a man, but I made no comment on this. I told him I was not talking about his logo and that this isn't the time to discuss this considering I was trying to attend a boxing class. He again ignored my request for him to stop talking and then went on to say that people (implying me) bring other people down just to bring other people up. His tone and aggressive words made me feel unsafe and scared that he might hit me "by accident" - I signed a waiver so he'd be off the hook if he did hit me. For context - he is a 6+ foot experienced male boxer and I am a 5'3'' 110lb woman. I began to feel nervous and unsafe. I stopped responding to his words and he finally dropped the subject and continued to host a short lesson for a minute longer. He ended up hitting me in the head with a pad. I was supposed to duck under it to practice a move that I had just learned but I didn't duck in time considering I am a beginner. I wondered if he hit me on purpose because of his anger at my shirt. It would be hard to prove anything because that was a part of the boxing class and he knew I signed a waiver relieving the gym of any injuries incurred there. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to get hit again, so I uncomfortably finished out his lesson hoping he wouldn't hit me again taking advantage of my beginner skills. I exited the ring in shock at what just happened. I continued the workout a little while processing what Jonathon had just said to me. I realized that I was just in a boxing ring with a large man who instead of teaching me defense, decided to verbally berate me + express his anti gender equality stance to me while intimidating me and ignoring what I had to say. I sent a direct message to the gym on IG describing the incident. They responded a week later saying, "sorry you were not happy with our complimentary class. Thanks for the feedback. Best of luck in all you do. =)." Their response insinuates that bc the class is a free trial, my negative experience is irrelevant. They didn't apologize or address Jonathon's comments. I'm disappointed and disgusted by their response and Jonathon's behavior. I recommend finding any other boxing gym. Preferably one that can admit when they're wrong + understands gender equality.

UPDATE: 4 years later the gym has not apologized and is still defensive in their recent reply. Jon is listed as the CEO per his LinkedIN. A recent review refers to a "Jon" instructor. A woman reported abuse to me by Jon after seeing my review. Jon was arrested for assault to a cab driver.

Thanks for 1000+ reads on this review!

If I can give 6 stars I would. I hired coach Darrel Rhodes a few months ago for my two boys (14&10). The kids are always excited to go train with him. I think that he is more than just a sports coach, he is also a mentor & he really cares about the kids future. I have been struggling with my teen a bit & coach has been a great help. He is very involved with them both outside of just training. He is very dedicated to their physical & mental improvement. Another thing I really love about him too is that he is very flexible with scheduling, I’m a single mom & my life
Is super hectic but coach always works with me and accommodates my schedule. This is the best thing you can do for yourself or your children. Highly recommend !!

I was visiting Los Angeles California and stopped in to see what was going on in a local gym and found the well known celebrity trainer Darrell Rhodes Jr. whom I got the opportunity to get in unscheduled after telling him I was from Atlanta Georgia. I did a 1 hour session and I was never worked out so hard in my life. It was the greatest. Go visit hi or a session asap. He even takes phone calls and does phone consultations. Thanks Darrell

As a present day patron, Darrell is clearly the excellent private instructor i've ever worked with. now not handiest expert and targeted, he is difficult, tremendously motivational and fun.

i've never gotten consequences like those from some other instructor. I believe that is due to the fact Darrell no longer most effective knows the science of private training, he also is aware the technological know-how of motivation. whilst you feel such as you cannot maintain going, Darrell will get you there.

no matter what your health dreams, i am sure that Darrell can be greater than capable to help you get there. Please realize that I supply him my maximum ratings, and will fortunately preserve to train with him.

STLA is the best gym in LA for certain, Ive been a member for the past 6 years, unfortunately its been closed since March due to COVID but I cant wait to get back to it once we can. Jonathon and Ronnie have brought out the best in me, my mind and my body are so strong and connected like never before, I'm grateful for everything they've taught me that I can use during this time of quarantine. I LOVE my gym! #nolimit

This facilities response to constructive feedback demonstrates their inability to promote and foster an inclusive and safe space where all feel welcome.

Good customer service: acknowledging your client's needs, identifying the issue while seeing it from their perspective, and trying to mitigate that issue in whatever way you can.

Poor example of customer service: demonstrating a lack of understanding and willingness to hear a client out and continue to uphold a toxic environment in which your client does not feel safe or comfortable.

i recommend checking out brittani’s tuesday stretch class! she cares for your body mind and soul and teaches you how to connect to your own body. after a couples sessions under her nurturing wings of guidance i felt empowered and full of self knowledge to continue my stretch and strength journey on my own. but of course i allways go back to train with brittani as she will allways show you a new level of self is attainable. i advise anyone to seek her out.

This is a gym where everyone is welcome. No need for feeling self conscious about anything because they will make you work through it and make you feel like family. Also the monthly payment is very reasonable for people on a budget.

Coach Jon and coach Darrell are awesome. They create a great environment for fitness and training and always bring the best out of me. They truly care about their clients. I've lost 12 lbs in a month because of STLA. Their boxing instruction is unmatched and is great for both novice and experienced boxers.
Perfect gym for any athlete in any sport or for anyone looking for a lifestyle change. Also very affordable. I wish I lived closer.

As a current client, Darrell is absolutely the best personal trainer I have ever worked with. Not only professional and focused, he is tough, highly motivational and fun.

I have never gotten results like these from any other trainer. I believe this is because Darrell not only understands the science of personal training, he also understands the science of motivation. When you feel like you can't keep going, Darrell will get you there.

No matter what your fitness goals, I am certain that Darrell will be more than able to help you get there. Please know that I give him my highest ratings, and will happily continue to train with him.
