I had never done CrossFit or anything like it, I wasn't in great shape, but went to class with friends essentially on a dare and I was instantly hooked. The coaches are so encouraging and helpful, the atmosphere is incredibly supportive and fun, there are people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. You can scale any of the workouts to accommodate any level of fitness or ability. I've never looked forward to going to the gym until I found Strange! It's a really special place and I'm so glad to be a part of it!

This is one of the best gyms around. The coaches are very knowledgable, friendly, and give constructive feedback to improve movements. They encourage you to push, but are very mindful of injury and skill set, so everything is scalable and tailored to give you the best workout.

Came up on my IG feed as hyrox affiliated gym and I really don’t love the places I’ve trialed around Santa Clarita so I reached out through the website for more information.

I asked to please text, not call, during business hours and I appreciate that they actually listened. Sam was incredibly patient with my random questions. I met with Vee for my first class and she was also patient with my repetitive questions.

I don’t have photos of the facility as I really wanted to soak everything in for my first sessions. I’ve only done two workouts with them but honestly no complaints so far. It’s structured with an introduction and small warm up and the workouts have been good.

Looking forward to my next 2 months with them

My fitness journey started about 6 weeks ago when I attempted a difficult hike, Tongva Peak Loop. I was shocked to find myself absolutely defeated by the steep grade and terrain. I had to turn back about 3/4 of the way!

That’s when I got more serious about my fitness. I started going to Strange Strength 5-6 days a week. I love the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the sense of inclusion, and the knowledgeable coaches. Every day, as the time rolls around for me to step away from my office desk and head over to Strange Strength, I get an excited buzz of anticipation tingling throughout my whole body.

This weekend, I went back to Tongva Peak Loop, and I summited it with ease. In a little over a month, I’ve seen real, measurable progress in strength, endurance, and confidence. I’m grateful to be a member of this community and excited for what the future will bring as I continue to put in the work!

Great leadership/owner. Great coaches. Great community. This place has been a safe haven for me for the past couple months. The gym I was at for the better part of 8 years went through a rough transition causing me to have to find a place to train and coach. As a working professional for the past decade, this was a tough time for me. Sam Lusk (owner) and her staff and community welcomed me with open arms and made this transition seamless. The standard of coaching and attention to detail here is unparalleled. I've become a better athlete and coach in a short amount of time just being around here. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to begin or better their fitness journey. Want to feel stronger, fitter, and become a better version of yourself? Come say hi!

Update for 2023
Still here. Still the best gym, wonderful coaches, amazing community, and the nicest dogs.

New review, for 2022, in Haiku! ;)

Three years in, awesome
#EnginebySam destroys me
Great community

2022 Update:
Still amazing. Great facility, great programming, phenomenal coaching, super-supportive and welcoming community, friendly dogs, available drinks/snacks, AND ample parking.

2021 Update:

All the things I loved about this place a year ago are still true. You couldn't ask for a better facility, the programming is great, the coaches are fantastic, and the community is amazing and welcoming. Classes are challenging and fun; every day is like another chance to hang out with good friends (and their dogs) while getting fitter. The toughest thing is forcing yourself to take rest days.
-----------------------------------------------------

Short version: It's great, sign up.

Longer version: Not convinced? OK, let's go point by point.

Space: The space is great - lots of room, even during busy times. This is especially important because you can also do open gym during class times. There's also sufficient parking, which seems to be something of a rare luxury. There's filtered water so you can refill your water bottle, and a fridge with snacks/drinks so you can refuel after (or between) workouts.

Equipment: Lots of it. Bikes, Boxes, Balls, weights, rowers, yokes, sleds, sandbags....lots of variety.

Classes: In addition to CrossFit classes, there are also specialty classes like Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics so you can work on your skills. Also Engine, if you want to work cardio more, and FlexRX because who doesn't need to work on mobility?

Coaching: This is the big one. The coaches are phenomenal, across the board. They actually teach you and encourage you and push you to be better and hold you accountable. The differentiated instruction and scaling for different skill levels is outstanding. If you're looking for somewhere to be ignored, to hide in the back, to not put work in and not get better, this probably isn't the place for you. :)

People: Everyone I've met has been super nice, very encouraging. From the day I walked in I felt welcome and that feeling has continued ever since.

TL;DR version: Great facility, great coaching, great equipment, get off the internet and sign up.

I've been a member at Strange for several months now, and can confidently say that it's one of the the best gyms around. The coaches are knowledgeable and supportive. The programming offered is challenging and scalable, so whether you're a beginner or experienced athlete, you can get a great workout. They offer both classes and open gym hours, the gym itself is clean and well-equipped, with plenty of space to move around. The community here is amazing too - everyone is friendly and supportive, and it's always a fun, welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get fit and have fun.

If you're looking for a gym that will push you to be a better athlete, then this is the place to be! I joined this gym last fall, and I am amazed at how much l've progressed in such a short period.
In addition to the amazing Crossfit programming, one aspect that sets this gym apart is their specialized classes. They offer Engine, Run Club, and Gymnastics, which have helped me develop my skills and technique significantly. I've always struggled with these movements, but the Gymnastics class has been a game-changer for me. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and patient, providing guidance and feedback to help me improve. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a challenging and rewarding fitness experience.

This is an amazingly fantastic place to train and get fit, whatever your age, fitness level and experience. Classes are as intense, challenging, and exhausting as you are willing to let them be, but Sam and her amazing coaches are committed to your success and progress. They may be group classes but the attention given to every individual makes them feel like personal training sessions. And you can't beat the incredible level of camaraderie, mutual support and genuine affection that is fundamental to Strange --- it's like working out with (often insanely fit) friends & family from the get-go.
AND DON'T let the stereotypes of "CrossFit" scare you or be put off by the Norse gods and goddesses you see on the televised CrossFit competitions: While there are some impressively fit people training here (good for inspiration), the classes and varied programming at Strange are for athletes, would-be athletes, and civilians at every level of fitness, and at every age. (In fact, if you are somewhat OLDER like me this is the IDEAL place for you to get in and stay in shape for the rest of your life!
You can even bring your dog (if it's cool).
Worth every penny. This is the place for you!

This gym is the best gym I have ever been to - I drive from Santa Clarita every day to come here vs. the 6-7 CrossFit gyms I have to choose from in SCV. Strange has a variety of classes - CrossFit, Engine, Run Club, Gymnastics, and Olympic lifting. If you want to get better at something, there’s a class for it. I have made more progress here in a year, than I did in 2 years at my old gym. The coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging and take pride in teaching people how to move the right way and upholding standards of movement patterns. I can not recommend this place enough. The people are also fantastic - everyone is on their own journey, but strengthened by the team environment created by Owner/Coach Sam.

I love this place!!

The people are amazing, the coaches are amazing, the programming is amazing, and the owner/head coach, Samantha Lusk, is absolutely amazing.

When I joined in November of 2022, I was a pretty intimidated. From day one, EVERYONE was super supportive and encouraging. My anxiety quickly subsided and my only regret is not joining sooner.

The positive environment and professionalism at Strange should be the standard for all gyms/businesses.

Special shout out to Coach Oates, who I train with most often. Keep up the great job Strange!!

Strange is such an amazing gym! Although I still consider myself new here, I have got to say that the programming is ON POINT! The community is not only sweet and friendly but also super inspiring. They really know how to push themselves to their limits and also support one another. I recently had the pleasure of checking out this gym, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. The gym boasts a large, clean space that offers plenty of room to move around during workouts. And, as soon as I walked in, I was struck by the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

But what really sets this gym apart is the coaching. The coaches, Sam, Nicolette, Nile, Anna, and Caitin, are absolutely amazing. They provide personalized attention to help you reach your fitness goals. During classes, the coaches walk around to give individualized attention to each member, ensuring that everyone is performing exercises correctly and safely. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely care about their clients.

No matter your fitness level, this gym has something for you. The workouts are tailored to all levels, from beginners to competitors, ensuring that everyone can find a challenge that pushes them to their limits.

One of the things I loved most about this gym was the friendly and supportive community. From the coaches to the other members, everyone was incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home. It was clear that everyone was there
to support each other and push each other to be their best.

Overall, I would highly recommend this CrossFit gym to anyone looking to get in great shape while being part of a fantastic community. With its large space, clean facilities, amazing coaching, and friendly atmosphere, it's truly one of the best CrossFit gyms around.

My husband and I chose to switch to Strange after 2.5 years of doing Crossfit. The coaches consistently pay attention to your form and push you to grow as athletes. Highly recommend!

I have been a part of the CrossFit community in Los Angeles, as both and athlete and a coach, for almost 6 years, and can confidently say that Strange Strength and Conditioning is a top-tier training experience. I say that taking 4 categories into account: Facility, Coaching, Programming, and Community.

Facility: Step one foot into Strange and you’ll immediately notice the ample size and space in the gym is incomparable to almost any other facility in Los Angeles. The equipment is the highest quality available, the facility itself is clean and well maintained, and the large bay doors allow for airflow, and good lighting, and the space in the back of the gym is perfect for sled pushes/pulls, an outdoor row/bike, and the occasional ice bath if you like to party.

Coaching: Without a doubt this is the the highest selling point of Strange. If you’re looking to get better at fitness, no matter your goal or level, the coaching staff at Strange will absolutely get you there if you’re willing to work. Each coach staffed at Strange is knowledgeable, technical, thoughtful, observant, and approachable. No matter if you’ve been doing functional fitness for years, or if you’ve never touched a barbell, with the coaching at Strange you’ll grow leaps and bounds in your technique and comfort with movement patterns and skills.

Programming: The programming at Strange has always been the perfect synergy of smart and challenging, but attainable. The proof is in the pudding: most athletes at Strange improve by leaps and bounds through each training cycle, signalling that the programming is not just a bunch of difficult movements thrown together to make you sweat and feel tired, but is intelligently designed to increase your level of fitness. Additionally, there are two different programming options each day; one course that may be more advanced or include more difficult movements, and one that may be a scaled or less advanced version. Both options are always challenging and are designed to train the same muscle groups and metabolic systems, but are inclusive for people of all levels, or for athletes with nagging injuries they’re resting. That’s not to mention the other classes offered at Strange, including specific Olympic Lifting, Gymnastics, and Engine (or cardio focused) classes. Overall, the breadth of the programming Strange offers allows anyone at any level to improve their level of fitness.

Community: Strange is an incredible mix of people from all walks of life, lines of work, ages, and experience levels, all coming in every day to try to make themselves the best they can be. It’s truly extraordinary seeing how each person in every class pushes themselves as hard as they can that day. The trickle-down effect of that effort is seeing people accomplish things they never thought they’d do, whether that’s walking on their hands, stringing large sets of ring muscle ups, or simply jumping on a 24” box for the first time. The culture of pushing out of your comfort zone vibrates through every member of the community, and guaranteed, it will make you want to be better too.

So to sum it up, if you’re in the market for a new gym with great space, attentive coaching, smart programming, and a bunch of new friends ready to push and support you through your fitness journey, Strange is the place for you.

Update: Still here and Strange is still the best gym in the valley!

If, like me, you found that you emerged from the last several years of Covid not fully recognizing yourself or carrying around the mental and physical weight of the pandemic, then please know; this is the place for you. I had more or less taken a three year hiatus from any functional fitness and had gotten so despondent that it seemed too difficult to even walk around the block. I was worried I wouldn’t even be fit enough to take a single class. I am so glad I didn’t listen to those fears. From the moment I started at Strange, I was met with a welcoming community, superior coaching that met me where I was at physically and mentally, and a place that I felt welcome every single day! Update to below review 6 months later:
I am delighted to come back and update my review with even more great things to say about Strange Strength!!
I want to start off by saying thank you to all of the wonderful coaches for the amazing training and the patience that they have as I constantly work on skills and technique day in and day out. I have grown so much in the last 6 months in every area (strength, technique, flexibility, gymnastics, & endurance) and credit a lot to the programming that Samantha the owner creates. At times I find my self thinking “this looks intense and there is no way” but I am constantly surprising myself with another completed lift or another completed WOD. I think it’s obvious from my raving review and even more wonderful update that I recommend Strange Strength to everyone from every level of fitness. If you want to attend a gym that is welcoming, with programming for all skill levels and staffed with great coaches; Strange Strength is for you.

I joined Strange Strength 2 months ago and have nothing but great things to say about it!
The coaches are great! (very professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly)
The programming is awesome! (challenging but easy to scale or modify if you want)
They offer several classes beyond the daily WOD to help work on movements and Lifts like OLY and Gymnastics.
I am very happy to be part of the Strange Strength family and am very exited to continue growing stronger and becoming better everyday.

On the recommendation of a friend, I joined up. From day one, Sam and everybody in the classes have 100% supportive. I’m old, I’m over weight, I’m slow, I’m struggling to keep up but they don’t give up on me. High fives, fist bumps, “Keep it up” “Give me one more” etc, it just never ends. I don’t even know these people but they treat me like I’ve been a friend for years. It’s a fun, cool, warm and friendly environment. But make no mistake, Sam is a beast! She destroys me every single time. I leave with wobbly noodle legs every time. And I love it. After 10 days and 3 classes, I noticed the difference. I should have done this years ago.

I hate working out. Like, if I could just chill and eat donuts and draw all day I’d be happy- but that gets me nowhere, does it?

That said - I can’t speak HIGHLY enough if this place to do it justice. The coaches, training, space, community, the individual attention to each athlete - all top notch in quality, programming, pointers, motivation, results and most importantly (to me) fun af!!!

Did I mention motivation? Everyone here is giving it their best and pushing themselves everyday they walk into the gym. It’s v easy to be motivated when everyone is stoked to put in the work and in turn encourage you to push and be the best you.

Bonus- The coaches playlists here are siiiiick! I’m very lucky to have found Strange.

If you have any doubts, you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by dropping in and trying a class or two. Maybe stay a while.

Great community of members and smart coaches who program challenging workouts but always prioritize each athlete's safety/ability level over performance. Would recommend to anyone from beginners to professional athlete, you'll always find yourself challenged and pushed here! Schedule has plenty of options including early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Plenty of space and equipment. Lots of parking space.

Strange is the best Crossfit gym in LA. The coaches are top notch, they really care and pay attention to your technique and form to prevent injuries. And not to mention that the facility is very spacious. Excellent equipment. If you're looking for a Crossfit gym where you will be pushed and challenged, Strange is the place to be.

I’ve been doing crossfit since 2015 and this is by far the best gym I’ve ever been apart of. I have made more progress in the last year here (during a pandemic mind you) then I did for years at other gyms. The programming, coaching, and community is really the best I could have asked for. If you’re looking for a new place to train for competitive crossfit or just for a gym to get in shape, start here. The knowledgeable coaches really can help you to achieve your goals.

I’ve been going to strange for about a year and a half. I love it just as much as I did when I first signed up. It’s become my home away from home.

The space is HUGE.
The coaches are SOLID, as well as welcoming and encouraging.
The programming will make you very strong. You’ll be able to accomplish things you never knew you could.

HOWEVER- the one aspect that has been so incredible about strange that a lot of other gyms do not offer is the flexibility. Do you travel a lot for your job? Has that made sticking with a gym challenging? Or do you feel like you’re wasting money when you’re on the road and can’t attend classes? Do you have a fear of signing up for the gym because you don’t know if you can make the commitment? (Because of work, or family obligations, or whatever..)
Here is what Strange offers:
- cancel anytime, no 30 day notice.
- Freeze your account any time
- Open gym hours that are both early AM and late at night, that will work with your schedule. (6am-8:00 most days)
- And you can even work with Sam on your own personal programming- for when you’re on the road, at your house, in a hotel. Whenever or whenever. (This is what I do since I travel a lot for work, and it’s been life changing.)

This gym has it all. ALSO, you love some good cardio?? The ENGINE class is fire. One of my favorite classes.
Check this gym out! You’ve got nothing to lose!

Strange Strength and Conditioning has been my space for mental and physical health it can be yours too! The most amazing gym that you will ever join! Fantastic and experienced coaches, great members and fun and challenging classes. No other gym has focused on mobility as much as this gym .The WODs are the best and the booking system really good as well. The coaches really focus on technique and proper form, which is great for newbies (and even for the OGs!).
Special gratitude for effective coaching skills to Sam thank you for training me to become a capable athlete and for motivating me and pushing me when I need it . Thanks also to coach Nile and Jacob. I am so lucky to have coaches who inspires me every day to be better than the day before.
Electric atmosphere, good workout environment, top quality coaching, top quality "competition" and top quality results!!!

My wife and I came to Strange as our first post-pandemic re-opened gym space, and boy were we impressed. I’m a firm believer that great gym culture starts at the top. Owner Samantha Lusk is someone who cares about her members and takes pride in running safe, clean, well-organized, well-coached classes where the programming is challenging and fun. The space itself is huge, with more room than you know what to do with, and plenty of any type of equipment you may need. The members are friendly, the coaches are encouraging and observant, and after only a few weeks, both my wife and I are noticeably stronger. We wish we had stumbled upon Strange sooner than we did, but we are happy to be a part of this really wonderful community.

Strange Strength and Conditioning. Where do I begin, having been a member at many former CrossFit gyms, Strange is second to none. The coaches are wonderful, educated, honest, transparent, kind and patient. Those are the qualities you should seek from your coaches. In a sport that focuses on high intensity, and Olympic bar movements you want to ensure you have the proper coaching to develop proper form - the absence of this leads to injuries.

Whether you are looking for a lifestyle change, increase your fitness level, or looking to compete, look no further. Strange provides an inclusive and and accepting community like no other. I have made some of my best friends at Strange and I couldn't be happier. No matter your fitness level rest assured you will be welcomed with open arms, excitement, and love!

Not only does strange have a ton of space and clean, new equipment but it’s run by one of the nicest people around. Sam is extremely knowledgeable and encouraging. The members are also kind and welcoming - I haven’t attended a class where I didn’t laugh. These people have a good sense of humor and make tough workouts fun to do.

I found this gem from Google! I moved here a few months back and it took awhile to find the right place for me. I was a member of a functional fitness type gym back home in NJ that focused more on kettlebell sport without olympic lifting and gymnastics. Big open space, high quality equipment, ample parking, challenging programming, competitive box… I found it all here. I checked out and dropped in on a couple local boxes, but I immediately felt at home and a part of the family here at Strange. Absolutely no intimidation here.

They offer other classes besides Crossfit: Engine (cardio), flex (mobility), olympic lifting, and gymnastics. Everything you need to become a better athlete. From fundamentals to every class I’ve taken, the coaches are attentive to everyone’s form. I never felt neglected, even in a larger class. The coaches will share modifications for various movements and will even spot and talk you through it. Once you've mastered one, they challenge you to a more difficult modification until you can Rx. This is the type of coaching you will experience here at Strange. I’ve only been a member for a little over a month and I’ve improved so much thanks to them!

Whether you're brand new to CrossFit or already an advanced athlete, Strange is a terrific place to train and grow. The equipment is top-of-the-line, the coaching is great for athletes of all levels, and the workouts are consistently more demanding than any other gym that I've visited. The coaches are attentive at every class, and they always look to push you while keeping your movements solid and safe. The schedule offers great classes at practically any time of day, there's more than enough parking, and it's a perfect place to meet really good people. I've been doing CrossFit for almost eight years, and this is the best box that I've been a part of.

What an incredibly special gym. Since the moment I decided to take a CrossFit class here, I have felt so welcomed by everyone I meet. The vibe is competitive but not intimidating. I’ve taken classes with Sam, and she is a very attentive coach- kind, patient, and knows her stuff! The first class I took with her as my coach, she showed me tips on my rowing form that I didn’t even know mattered! It helped my speed a lot.

I had previously done CrossFit, but took a year off. Being at this gym brought back the spark I felt when I took my very first CrossFit class.
I am obsessed. This is my new gym.

Also, a huge perk in LA is that this gym HAS SPACE. Like So. Much. Space. It’s amazing. As much as “sharing is caring” I’ve never had to share a bar, box, or rower with anyone.. I’ll take it!

Strange CrossFit also provides a stretching class, that Amanda coaches! It was informative and it felt really good to have a dedicated hour spent on stretching.

Highly recommend checking out this gym!! Even if you are a beginner you will feel safe and welcome!!

Y’all, this place is special!

I searched for a place that would push me to the best version of myself...

I searched for a training program that was intense but not overly intimidating...

I searched for a community that was deeper than a gym...

I found what I was looking for at Strange CrossFit!

The coaches are INCREDIBLE! I can’t speak enough amazing things about them. You just need to drop in once to understand their level of dedication to bringing out the best in you!

Strange Crossfit is legit. Great programming, super knowledge coaches, and a supportive community. All skill levels are welcome and that’s not just a “marketing” line. Unlike other boxes, scaling is encouraged when it comes to doing what’s right for either your skill level or body. Great place to train for crossfit, Olympic lifting, gymnastics or functional movement!

Over the past five years, I have visited multiple CrossFit gyms in Los Angeles and the Dallas, Texas area. There is no gym that comes close to the excellence of Strange CrossFit. The facility itself is magnificent--huge, top-of-the-line equipment, and a particularly thoughtful layout. The coaches are all outstanding. Their engagement, investment in everyone's individual success , and expertise are unmatched in my experience. I am not a naturally gifted athlete. I was out of shape, older than most, and had a rather limited sense of body awareness. I felt at home immediately and knew I would be coached well, taken care of without fear of injury, so that I could maximize the benefit of every class I took and every individual session I scheduled. The quality of my life has changed significantly. I am motivated and very appreciative of all of those involved in this box. Do yourself a favor and at least drop by to take a look and talk with the coaches.

I have done CrossFit since 2011. I love it. I’ve been to MANY gyms, both as a member and a drop-in. Never have I come across a gym where I immediately felt invested in the way I did/do here. Strange has become a second home for me. It’s hard not to want to spend time here. You’re surrounded by fun people who contribute to the positive vibe you get walking in the door. The facility is second to none for any gym I’ve ever been to. They have plenty of space and equipment (they even have a shower), and it’s kept extremely clean and well maintained. The coaches are knowledgeable, attentive, and do their best to keep everyone on task and improving while still having a good time. I cannot recommend this place enough whether you’re an athlete looking to push further in your training or a newbie hoping to find an encouraging community. Hopefully, you’ll find a home away from home here just like I did.

I've been going to Strange for about 9 months, and I have nothing but great things to say about this gym and the coaches! The space itself is huge, which means there's always a spot for you to come in and do your own thing even when there's a class going on. They have some of the best equipment you can find, and also offer everything from your traditional CrossFit classes to powerlifting, OLY, cardio, and mobility.

The programming and coaching are next level. I have PRd every lift and gained countless new skills. All the coaches are attentive and give great feedback. Also, side note: if you want to be coached by and workout with some badass females, this is the gym for you! Love our male coaches and members, but we're definitely dominated by some very strong women ;)

What I love the most though is how they've managed to find the perfect balance of being competitive and having fun. We all show up and suffer together, and it definitely brings us closer together. Love my Strange fam! :)

Worth every penny, best decision ever. Coaching quality is top notch & box is equipped with the latest and greatest CrossFit toys. Met some of the warmest and friendliest people out there (esp. at the 7:15 PM class - go coach Nico!). With every class I take at Strange, I am able to see daily, incremental progress whether its in the amount of weight I am able to lift or the quality of the movement (i.e. achieving a pull-up/hand stand hold). You learn something every day!

If you are about the competition life, Sam's programming, the coaches, and the members will take your abilities to the next level and get you prepped. The coaches have been there, done that, got the banners. Strange knows what they are doing. So come join!
