This is bar none the best place to learn and practice classical pilates in San Diego! The owner, Jennie, has assembled a team of highly skilled instructors who can modify the movements for a range of injuries and conditions. The environment is super welcoming with many diverse clients who have been coming for years. It feels like family! I especially enjoy taking class with Summer, who is so thoughtful in how she sequences her classes. You can't go wrong with any of the instructors though!

When I take class with Summer Broyhill I always feel like I’m in good hands. Her thoughtful cues direct me precisely into the right position allowing me to succeed in the exercise safely. I’ve had issues with sciatica and putting myself back together postpartum and she has always challenged me in a way that was supportive to my body. She’s the best!!

I have been going to this studio for about 5 months now. Kalinka has helped me strengthen my core and really focus on controlling my body movements when doing the exercises instead of just powering through them. I am seeing the progress each class. And the great thing is that the classes are small (max 8 people) so all the instructors can give hands on corrections of you need that. This is pure Pilates so you never feel rushed to keep up.

I love every teacher here, and Jennie is an extraordinary leader who has attracted a community of joyful pilates enthusiasts, but I have to shout out Michelle Herrmann for her brilliant semi-private reformer classes on Fridays. Her insights are profound, her hands-on adjustments are like magic, and I always leave her classes feeling ready to take on any challenge. Thanks for all you do!

I’ve been to several Pilates studios across Southern California, and none compare to Studio Flo! Jennie is incredibly talented—her guidance makes even a group class feel like a one-on-one session. Every time I leave, I feel stronger, more aligned, and deeply connected to my body. Highly recommend!

The pilates workouts here are like no other I’ve experienced. The instructions are detailed and things just “click”. Studio Flo is a unique, serene space with abundant natural light. Owner Jennie has created a beautiful culture and I felt right at home after my first class. Hidden gem 🥰

I love coming to Studio Flo for classical pilates. All the instructors are amazing. I just took Kristen’s class today and I love her combination of verbal and tactile cues with demonstrations of different movements. It’s also worth noting that some movements can be modified and built upon so you and the instructors can track your progress/improvement through the order each time you take a class.

This review is long overdue. I have been taking classes on a regular basis for a year after a few years of gap following the Pandemic. Jennie and other amazing instructors, the classical style of Pilates, the studio ambience, and the great fellow Pilates lovers make me look forward to my classes everyday.

Jennie, the owner, is a brilliant instructor who plans her classes thoughtfully each time. You will be amazed at how creative she is in designing and planning the exercises while adhering to the principles of classical Pilates. She is an experienced, knowledgeable, and caring instructor who attends to everyone in the class. But, beyond all, she is an amazing human being! She always has a big smile on her face no matter how things have been with her outside the studio. She brings her complete focus and attention to her classes to make sure everyone gets the best out of each class. I appreciate that studio offers the opportunity to try different classes and instruments, including the reformer, tower, spine corrector, chair, and mat among other things. When you are at Studio Flo, you feel at home and part of a wonderful family of great instructors and classmates. I truly feel blessed to have found this studio! I hope you do too. Thank you Jennie et al!

After taking a hiatus from Pilates to have my babies I found myself back in action this year and have never been happier to finally incorporate Pilates back into my fitness routine.
Anyone who has had a baby knows that it can do a number on your pelvic floor. Not giving away too much detail, I was in great need of some strengthening in my pelvic floor.
I have been religious about my time with Studio Flo because I want to ensure I have a strong foundation, especially as I enter menopause.
Every single woman, babies or babies, requires special attention to their pelvic floor once menopause hits.
In the last several months I have seen a true difference in my function as my previous symptoms have lessen. This is all thanks to the teachers at Studio Flo who have a deep understanding of the human anatomy and what it takes to strengthen from within.
They have spent the time correcting my form and going the extra step to explain and show things when I needed the extra help.
I cannot recommend Studio Flo enough. It got me back to feeling like myself again.
Thank you for providing a studio filled with teachers who have been trained by the best!

I can't say enough good things about this classical Pilates studio! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and pay close attention to form and technique, ensuring you get the most out of each session. I tend to be very critical of this given my occupation and I trust ALL of the instructors to be able to modify or change any of the exercises to accommodate all bodies. I was able to continue to enjoy the group classes even well into both of my pregnancies.

The equipment is well-maintained and the classes are tailored to all skill levels, making it a great place for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my strength and flexibility since joining. I no longer have low back pain after a long day on my feet.

If you're looking for a studio that emphasizes the true principles of Pilates, this is the place to be! Highly recommend!

I am sad to leave this review, and I recognize that most of Studio Flo’s reviews are stellar, but it is necessary I make the world know how Jennie Groom is running her business, because my experience demonstrates how this studio has changed over the years, including the owner’s core values, her lack of caring for long term customers and focus on “rules” that have no substance with lack of both flexibility and accommodation for people’s injuries.

I have been coming to Studio Flo since Jennie opened her studio on Denver Street and then she moved to Morena location, so 10+ years. In fact, I started with personal trainings because I had back and knee issues at the time. My routine involved primary Tower classes which depending on who was coaching them were either really good or just average, but they still gave me a good stretch and worked my muscles. In October of 2023, I purchased another set of 20 credits for $400 with hopes I could continue my Pilates Tower journey. Unfortunately, I managed to use only 4 credits because I have injured my wrist quite severely followed with a shoulder injury couple of months later requiring me to be in PT for almost half a year, which prevented me from coming back to Pilates and still having 16 credits on the books.
Recently, after feeling that I got my strength back and completing my PT sessions, I wanted to come back to Pilates realizing that I have not used much of the credits that are about to expire within next 10 days. Considering the classes were prepaid and nothing is cheap in today’s world, especially in San Diego, I have reached out to Jennie asking politely if she could extend the timeline for my credits for another half a year while explaining that I was injured thus I couldn’t come. Her voice and attitude on the phone were disappointing and I realized that she doesn’t care about her long term customers as she coldly stated that she was strict about her rules, she runs a business and she can only extend it by a one month. Well, a single month is not going to work for me as I need to leave for England to attend to a family situation plus her schedule changed so dramatically I wouldn't be able to find Tower classes within a month outside my work schedule. I felt uncomfortable begging her to extend my credits at least to the end of the year because her response was so cold, without any care or empathy for my recent injuries. If she asked, I would have showed her my doctor referral letters for both wrist and shoulder PTs as a proof that I couldn’t use my credits but that is beside the point. I am disappointed about her lack of empathy and treatment of long term customers. If she is running a business, as she said she should understand the value of recurring revenue from a long term future customer AND if it was actually worth losing a long term customer. The NPV of future revenue generated from me by staying with Studio Flo was worth way more than losing me as a customer, because of refusal to allow me to use what I already purchased, but I will let her do the calculations. Ultimately it boils down to KARMA somewhere.

Finally, this studio’s class variety and schedule is not what it used to be, unfortunately. Before pandemic she offered versatile classes with good balance between Tower and Reformer, also accommodating folks who must leave their homes for work. Now she is focused on training new Pilates instructors, she offers primarily Reformer class and most classes are scheduled during work hours. Lastly, beware of buying credits and hoping to use them because most classes are offered during work hours and the best classes get quickly full as people put themselves on a reoccurring schedule which significantly narrows down your choices. Realizing how this business has changed I prefer to entrust the health of my body and my money to another Pilates studio that values their customers and empathetically care about their well-being. I wish her “good luck” in her future endeavors. I will not be coming back and do not recommend this studio primarily because of my core values.

Absolutely amazing place to learn Pilates. The instructors are extremely experienced, knowledgeable, attentive, and very welcoming towards new students. The space is peaceful and clean. Our posture and strength has visibly increased after just a couple months.

We are so glad that we gave this place a try before giving up on Pilates thinking it's not something for us (based on our experience elsewhere).

I started attending classes at Studio Flo when I was 58 years old as a favor to a friend. I hadn't participated in an excerise class since college and I was spending 50 hours a week sitting at a desk. My body was stiff, uncoordinated and I didn't own a pair of yoga tights. Nearly five years later I rarely miss my two classes per week. I have much better flexibility, body awareness and core strengh all due to the encouraging and well trained instructors at Studio Flo. Each group class (never more than 8) feels individually tailored to just what I need that day. I have taken classes at other studios and found them too large with little individual attention to form. Classical Pilates is a process, it takes time but it is fun. The classes are never boring and always just a little different. The community at Studio Flo is just amazing. Friendly and encouraging. I have made wonderful friendships at the studio. If you get a chance to take a class from the owner, Jenny, do it, you won't regret it.

This is an amazing place to both work out and learn about Pilates. The instructors are all very well educated and dedicated to continuing education. Most classes have only 8 people, so you really get individualized instruction. The studio is light and airy, and very welcoming. The sense of belonging and community are fabulous. I highly recommend Studio Flo!!!!

StudioFlo Pilates is everything I have looked for in a Pilates studio! The instructors are top-notch with extensive training backgrounds and a deep passion for Pilates. Everyone (staff and participants) is friendly and engaging, making you feel welcome instantly. The studio is clean and modern, with multiple rooms to accommodate various classes and private lessons. Most importantly, the Pilates is wonderful. It's more of a healing, muscular workout than a calorie scorching one, so it is excellent on it's own or as a supplement to other workouts (but believe me you'll be sweating if you do it right). You are taught body awareness, core strength, and flexibility, while also getting the benefits of better posture, longer and leaner muscles, and increased use of the body as a whole. 100% recommend to classical Pilates devotees and newbies alike!
