Haven't visited the school yet but I did speak to them. When asked how they motivate the kids, he mentioned how tough his training is. I specifically asked if it was more drill seargeant/fear based training and he said, ".. if the kids are scared at things then nope, get out of my school." I asked him, shouldn't your teachings be based on respect of you to them and them to you.." and he cut me off and reiterated the same thing about fear. Sorry.. I'm looking for a progressive place to learn and have the kids grow with and see you as a role model, not a school that puts people into a submissive place. Maybe the conversation steered wrong but that was enough for me to not take my kids in. I found this school on IG advertising a special for 2 weeks at $30 or something. He mentioned he has trained over 1000's of kids and is very popular. Well great, our business won't cause them any lacking. No thanks.

If you're looking for a Muay thai gym that is technically advanced and strong in every aspect and if you're ready to train like a warrior, Rey's is the place. Coach Rey is amazing and very knowledgeable. I am really blessed that I found Rey's team, Thank coach Rey for making me a better man, and I can't wait to see what my future is going to look like training with your team. 💪🏼

So I call in to and check on the price and the receptionist man says ask what I’m looking for. I said boxing classes for my 2 children. 7 and 9 years old. I told the guy I paid $140 for both of my kids and I was looking around for a good gym. The receptionist man said “140 for two kids, you should go back again because I wouldn’t charge that. I charge 200 for each kid.” I said oh okay. But I’m looking around to see what the prices are and said good luck to you and your business. He said “ I don’t need luck, I have many participants.” And he hung up. I was like wow. That’s how he treats people and wants to grow his business! Better start by hiring a better receptionist to his business then may be he can grow. I take my good wishes away! Keep your business. I better gym just took one of your future participants! Thanks

I’ve been going here for over 2 years now. I initially started just to lose weight for my wedding but I stayed for the Muay Thai. Sifu Rey is great with more years or knowledge and experience than me being alive. He caters to your goals. If you want to lose weight you will lose weight, if you want to learn how to fight, you will know how to kill someone with your bare hands (plus knees, elbows, and legs). His combination of Muay Thai and wing chun is truly a deadly combination. Prior to being a student I was out of shape and wouldn’t survive in a street fight. Now I can confidently say I can hold my own worse case scenario if I ever had to defend my family or myself.

I've been a member of Team Rey's Muay Thai for a few years now, and I can confidently say that it is an excellent gym to learn and practice Muay Thai. The instructors here are highly skilled and knowledgeable, and I have learned so many techniques during my time here.

One of the standout aspects of this gym is the emphasis on proper form. The instructors, especially Coach Garcia, are dedicated to ensuring that students learn and execute the techniques with the correct form. With Coach Garcia's 30 plus years of experience, you can trust that he knows exactly what he is doing and can guide you in the right direction.

I also had the opportunity to watch Coach Garcia's kids' class, and it was truly inspiring. It's clear that he has a passion for teaching and has a special way of connecting with his young students. My daughter used to attend the class, and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

In terms of value for money, Team Rey's Muay Thai is definitely worth every penny. The quality of instruction, the supportive environment, and the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors make it a top-notch gym. If you're looking for a place to learn Muay Thai and get your money's worth, I highly recommend Team Rey's Muay Thai.

I’ve been coming to this gym for almost a year now. Started off by doing a weight loss challenge that was incredibly helpful, insightful, and motivational. Not only does the owner, Rey personally coach and train you through the challenge but he also builds a personalized plan for you to follow and helps keep you accountable with daily check ins and weekly weigh ins. I was able to lose 20lbs in 6 weeks with Team Rey’s. I also had some health problems come up during the challenge period and he was incredibly flexible with me so I could still finish.

After the challenge, I continued coming back because this is the best authentic Muay Thai gym in the area and I don’t plan on going anywhere else. Rey’s been coaching for over 30 years and knows what he’s doing. I honestly wasn’t sure I’d be into the Muay Thai part of training in general but it’s such a good workout and I’ve learned a ton. On top of that, I never feel like I’m out of place as a woman in this gym. The classes are typically a good mix of men and women, if not more women than men, and Rey treats and trains everyone equally.

I’d recommend training here in a heartbeat for anyone at any level who’s interested in improving their overall fitness and learning Muay Thai.

I recently moved here from Texas looking for a new Muay Thai gym. I tried this place out because it had so many good reviews on Google. It was not at all for what I had hoped for. Not only does he teach bad technique, he also comes off as very misogynistic, and this is coming from a man. I can see if it was the “old man no filter, times were different back then” misogyny, but this was more blatant and as if he was doing it boastfully and deliberately.

He treated the two women in the class as if they were weak and soft, he also made distasteful jokes about women in the class I attended. He also was very handsy with the women in the class he called it his “hands on approach” last time I checked, you don’t need to be all up on a woman when you’re teaching her how to throw a jab.

Now onto his bad technique. He tries too hard to mix taekwondo with Muay Thai which are two different fighting styles. We were doing a drill where we were in front of the bag and instead of us doing a staggered stance(south paw or orthodox), he wanted us to be square up with the bag which is big no no in Muay Thai because it takes away mobility, power, and it exposes yourself against your opponent. I felt like I was in a Karate class doing the drill. Overall I will not be coming back here again and I’m really surprised that this place has so many good reviews.

The best Muay Thai, Wing Chun academy to learn and improve. The kids class is perfect to show the kids discipline and confidence, and the adult class is awesome. As I said, this is the best Muay Thai academy in the Bay Area,
I definitely recommend it!

This place has been another home for me. Sifu Rey Garcia doesn’t teach anything that isn’t practical and has an incredible knowledge base. If you’re serious about learning, you won’t find a place more serious about teaching.

I enrolled my son here in March of 2016 because:
1 - great Groupon deal
2 - close to my house. They are so close to my house, that I often see his fight team doing their runs in the morning when I leave to work, and in the evenings when I go to my night classes on Wednesday.

I'm glad to have signed him up because I also have a cousin that trains in Muay Thai and found out that he and his daughter trained at this gym while they lived up here. Though my cousin moved back down to Carlsbad, he, Rey, and his team of fighters have a great relationship, and they try to connect when Rey's fighters participate in SoCal tournaments. It made me feel good to know I had family train here and seeing that this academy develops family-like bonds.

Anyway, when my son first signed up, it was in a smaller gym, but they did expand to a much larger facility to accommodate the number of kids Rey has to teach. It was so awesome to not only get to see my son progress, but all the other students as well. I was also informed verbally and on the contract that he needs a 30 day notice of when you are going to cancel, but I haven't cancelled because it's been great for my son to get away from the iPad, TV, and video games and learn about self-defense in a more hands-on approach.

Rey has always been encouraging kids to do their absolute best in each class whether they are seasoned or fresh. He does give them a history of Muay Thai and rules such as make good friends, promising to be a good person, have good values in the heart and mind, and he has the children repeat it out loud. Though there is a complaint about teasing, we must remember kids will be kids, and that if it isn't seen or heard by the instructor, it would put the instructor in a position of picking sides without evidence. Without evidence, there is no way to come to a conclusion.

In fact, another student shoved my child recently. Though I didn't see of it and only heard of it from my son, my son told Rey about it, and Rey made this student and my son talk it out because Rey has surveillance cameras to prove whether it was accidental or with purpose. His cameras may or may not have microphones, but the fact that he has cameras and knowing he has rules makes me feel safe of my child's well being in his gym. Additionally, knowing I can watch my child interact with others during their session is probably the ultimate sense of safety. If I had known my son was getting bullied, I probably would watch every session, and because I do watch every session, I found it ironic to still only see the same parents from 2016 watching their kids up until now.

I like the fact that Rey has one day a week where he hands out snacks and toys to children because it motivates the children to work harder and give them the sense of earning something. There is no harm in having children or even adults indulge in a sweet once in a while. Most nutritionists even recommend a cheat day. Not only that, this is a self defense class, so nutrition should only be part of the equation if there are serious aspirations of becoming a fighter at the amateur or professional level.

I personally signed up in June of 2017 after watching my son for 15 months, and I can tell you I haven't had a bad experience since. Because I still eat like a broke college student, I've only lost 20lbs in total (started at 300lbs). I did get down to 270lbs, but the holiday weight is still hanging around. Though I was expecting to get a snack like the little guys, I don't need it, and it isn't part of the adults curriculum anyway. He also has weights that members are free to use during open gym, which I take advantage of frequently.

All-in-all, I've been pleased with my son's progress as he is continuing to get physically better and mentally stronger. And for myself, I still have a few months to build a summer body! I hope to get my son and I in one competition fight here real soon!

I've been going to Rey's for almost 15 years now. He great teacher and a great mentor. He's very passionate about both Muay Thai and Wing Chun. I've been to many different martial arts academies and gyms over the years and I can tell you that Rey's teaching style blows them all away. Whether you're trying to learn self defense, loose weight, fight, or all three, Rey is the man for you! If you're hesitant about joining just come by for a free introductory class! I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed!

Awesome. Only there for a month and just for Wing Chun, but people are awesome, hard working, and inspirational. Sifu is one strong, knowledgeable teacher. Great metaphors, great humor and spectacular power and speed. Gonna see if I can come back again if I'm in the area.
