I absolutely love The Bar Method! The studio is always spotless and beautifully organized, and classes start right on time. The instructors are amazing — they truly pay attention to form and take the time to correct and guide you, which makes such a difference. The receptionist is incredibly kind and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere is positive and professional. The people who attend classes are also respectful and focused, which creates a great community vibe. I always leave feeling stronger, refreshed, and inspired. Highly recommend!

I’ve tried several barre studios in the area, and, so far, The Bar Method Palo Alto is my favorite. The studio is always spotless and exceptionally well-managed—kudos to Laura and her team for running such a welcoming, organized space. I always leave feeling stronger, more energized, and motivated to come back. Most of the teachers are amazing: they bring expert training and a positive energy to every class. I especially appreciate how the instructors pay close attention to form, offer helpful adjustments, know your name and really make sure each client gets the most out of their workout.
While everyone has their own preferences when it comes to teaching styles and personalities, I have to say that I usually "like" 50% of teachers when I go to a studio. Here, the number is 80-90%. I want to highlight a few instructors in Palo Alto (a couple are in San Mateo at the other studio, but I met them in Palo Alto), who make every visit a great experience: Gaby, Ann, Sherlene, Natalie, Dana, Madeline, Gaucha, etc. Note: I did not meet all instructors, mostly because of the class times, but these are my favorite teachers from the ones I met. On top of that, the class schedule is varied and flexible - I was afraid it was going to be boring after a while, but that has not happened yet - making it easy to find a time that works for me. The atmosphere is always encouraging and supportive, and there’s a real sense of community among both the staff and clients. Cheers!

The classes I attended here felt way less intense than my old studio. They focus a lot more on stretching here and are not as challenging overall.

I went all the way to town and country based on Google maps. It’s not close to my house. I was six minutes early I see the sign they moved. I called and told them the situation. The lady that answered the phone said it was fine for me to still come so I get another Uber and when I arrive at the location posted on the window, they tell me I cannot come in the class. I am out 45 minutes of my time and $35 in Ubers.

Since I started taking classes here I have seen great improvements in my balance, strength, flexibility, and muscle tone. I love how slight modifications can make the exercises much more challenging, so anyone can take a class whether they're a beginner or advanced. This studio has the kindest instructors and receptionists in town and it's always very clean.
After spraining my ankle I saw a physical therapist who suggested that I take yoga to strengthen my ankle and improve my balance. I took a few yoga classes but never quite felt comfortable and often got bored with the slow pace. At the Bar Method I've always felt comfortable in the studio, and the pace is just right. I've taken over 100 classes at this point and I can tell you that this exercise class definitely works - my ankle is completely healed and I feel great. I wish I had started taking classes here much sooner.
Edit: It's now been 2 years since I started at this studio and I've taken about 200 classes here. I am still thrilled with the quality of the instructors, the workout, and the facilities.

No respect and empathy for the client. My first class there was booked for a Sunday, 7:30am. I was there at 7:35 and they didn’t allow me to enter! I drove for 20 min on a Sunday morning to get there. I booked a babysitter to take care of my 2 babies while I was there! And they even told me that they have a 10 min delay policie, but not for first timers. That information was not in my confirmation email, anywhere. So frustrating.

I’ve been attending classes at Bar Method for a year now and I sincerely can’t imagine my life without it. The workout itself is the perfect mix of intense toning and light cardio, but what keeps me coming back is the warm community and pristine facilities I’ve found at the Palo Alto location. It’s become a lovely and rewarding part of my daily routine.

Great studio--I have been going religiously for around 3 years! Very professional and hands-on. The instructors learn every student's name and offer frequent helpful adjustments. Even the receptionists learn your name, making you feel like you are a part of a community! Even though you are in a class of ~20 students, you get the experience of being in being in a small group class or with a personal trainer. There also frequently offer free classes when new instructors are being trained. I also love that Bar Method is always refining the technique they teach and pursue research and development to make sure they are giving you the safest workout with the most effective results. I have tried another big chain barre studio in Palo Alto and this one is significantly better for roughly the same price!

As someone who came from a collegiate soccer background and is now largely a runner/hiker, I was skeptical to begin. However, for several reasons I continue to keep coming back to The Bar Method one year later. One of those reasons is that the workout kicks my butt every time. Each workout is challenging enough such that I work up a good sweat and feel like I'm making progress towards my fitness goals. The Bar Method's amazing instructors helped me to safely modify my workouts during all 9 months of my recent pregnancy, and I truly believe the strength these workouts built up in my core and pelvis were instrumental in my quick bounce back to work and working out again after delivery. In addition to being a great option for pregnant women hoping to continue moderate exercise during pregnancy, barre is perfect for someone trying to ease up on the pounding on their knees and ankles after years of abusing them. The studio itself is kept very clean and the locker room and showers are well stocked with shampoo/conditioner, hair ties, deodorant, etc., and there is a little boutique shop up front for when you forget to put something in your gym bag - they try to make it as easy as possible for you to enjoy your 1 hour of "me time" as you boost those endorphins! As far as exercise classes go, it's definitely worth the money in my opinion.

I've been going to the Bar Method Palo Alto for 1.5 years now. It's a high intensity work out that is low impact on joints but has a great impact on body toning and strengthening. All the instructors are amazing, and know every client by name. Everyone gets corrections and shout outs. The vibe is always good, the other women (and occasional guy) are gracious and inspiring. It's my retreat for the soul while strengthening my muscles at the same time. Doesn't get better than that.

I cannot emphasize how much I LOVE the bar method. I've tried a lot of bar classes but this is the most effective workout and well run studio. I've been going ever since I stopped playing sports (over 4 years now) and find that in combination with running it is perfect. It is such a great workout - high intensity but classes are primarily targeted strength training with your own body so anybody can do it and find their own level of challenge. The workout focuses on lengthening and strengthening muscles, which quickly results in an overall strong, lean, and flexible body. It is also probably the best workout for posture you will find. On a mental level, it's so therapeutic because of all of the breathing exercises and the overall peaceful, clean atmosphere of the studio.
The bar method teachers are really what makes it shine. They train for over 6 months before they can get certified so they know how to tailor safe custom workouts for every client. You can tell that they really love their jobs because they are so dedicated to clientes and achieve such a great balance of fun yet intense classes. The bar staff in Palo Alto is especially personable, and its so nice that the owner, Laura, constantly interacts with clients and implements their feedback.

As a professional yoga teacher, I like to challenge myself with a variety of movements. The Bar Method is very different than yoga, but I love its comprehensive, well-designed program that strengthens and tones major muscle groups in the body. Each class is fast-paced with a mix of familiar and new routines. The classes are challenging, and you will notice the change in your body as you get stronger with regular attendance.
The studio is welcoming with super friendly front desk staff and instructors who address you by your name. The instructors offer clear and precise cues, and their hands-on adjustments are a great help for better alignment and understanding one's body mechanics.
The studio is clean, spacious and well organized. Online class booking and email notifications make it easy to organize your schedule.
All in all, The Bar Method is an efficient and effective way to stay strong and fit. I highly recommend it.

I've been taking Bar Method classes for about six months now, and I'm so happy I discovered this exercise studio! I love the three exercise formats (especially the Move class) and the teachers are fantastic. The studio is clean, bright and friendly. The changing room has lovely showers and they provide hair dryers and toiletries. Each class is a great work out, and also a relaxing way to clear my mind and just move with the instructions. I've started getting a lot of compliments on my new slimmer shape and I can feel I've gotten stronger. I did crossfit for years before starting bar, and I had initially thought that Bar Method would be "wimpy" in comparison. I'm happy to have been proven wrong, and even more than 100 classes later, I shake and burn more than I did in the beginning!

I love the Bar Method! I started a few years ago with the goal of building more upper body strength, and the workout had almost immediate effects on my entire body. (I remember going for a run after only a few classes, and I felt like I was suddenly running on someone else's (much stronger) legs!) Even with lots of experience behind me now, the instructors all push me further in every class. Small corrections make all the difference, and I've found that the attentiveness of the instructors really distinguishes Bar Method from other workout experiences. It's also a very pleasant, friendly, and clean environment. Membership covers two studios (Palo Alto and San Mateo), which is great for those of us who are constantly up and down between SF and the southern Peninsula. It's certainly not inexpensive, but it's worth every penny for how the workout makes me feel.

I signed up for a month for new clients and have done 10 classes. The teachers are so positive and knowledgeable and very receptive to questions after class. During class, it’s hard to fit questions in because the workout is very efficient and the teachers are busy paying attention and watching that everyone’s form is right and will come and place you in right position or mention how to adjust in order to keep people injury free AND to to maximize muscle work with the exercise. They explain each exercise and continue to cue you which really helps. At first it was hard trying to quickly observe all the quick instructions in order to position myself correctly for each exercise but after a few visits I know a little more what to expect even though each class may use different exercises. I have some serious low back issues but the teachers have been great suggesting best ways and just slightly changing angles that help. In summary, I find this experience to provide a really uplifting supportive exercise class. Even the front check-in staff, especially Madeline always greets us with a cheerful and welcoming greeting by first name. I highly recommend it for an efficient core workout for any level of core strength and back and hip issues. The only downside is it’s on the pricey side and the classes fill up if you don’t plan in advance but their notification system works beautifully and you can often get in if on a waiting list.

I enjoyed the classes. They were challenging. However I wasn't going so after a few months of being charged $159 I finally cancelled. Read the fine print of their service agreement. 30 days notice means from the 1st of the month. No pro-ration. Email correspondence back and forth and finally a phone conversation were all pretty disappointing. They claimed to have sent me emails about my absence of which I really would have appreciated since they were taking the money out month after month even though I wasn't going to any classes. I didn't receive any (they weren't in spam either). Also disappointing because they acted like there was absolutely nothing that could be done about crediting my account for 2/3's of a month over charge. I had attended no classes since July. I gave notice on 11/9, so 12/9 should have been the end date. Instead, they pulled another $159 from my account on 12/1.
To be fair, they offered to convert the remaining for month to a year package or transfer it to someone else. However, I wasn't going to class before so I didn't need a conversation and I know no one that is interested in these classes. Those options were not helpful in recouping the lost money.
The 2 stars is for the ridiculous 30 day notice requirement. It's not really 30 days, it's 30 days plus the remaining time in the month you give notice. That's not clearly spelled out and it really shouldn't be any company's policy especially if they post a 30 day notice requirement. The 2 stars is also for the inability of the owner to make any decisions, being a franchise evidently ties your hands to the point of no ability to meet a customers reasonable request. This is not a group I'd care to do business with again.

Positives: Great all-around toning at this bar-based workout studio, esp. of arms, quads, hamstrings, core -- you'll see results. Each class follows the same basic routine. After months it hasn't gotten old, and remains challenging. All the instructors work to learn names and give you personalized corrections & encouragement. Negatives: classes are pretty full and drop ins are probably difficult. You have to plan about a week ahead to get into popular times, or try on the wait list (though in my experience, you always get in off the wait list). It just goes to show how much people (mostly ladies) are addicted to the class.
