The Bar Method San Diego - Point Loma is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. I started around 2014 I think. I really loved the classes but stopped going.
In b2024 I got an email promo and decided to check it out again. I had been taking supplements for my knee pain, which I as able to eventually stop taking because the workouts were helping my joints so much.
It's a great supportive environment, all the instructors are amazing.
There are women of all ages backgrounds, bodies and abilities, which makes it a very inclusive environment.

I joined bar method when they did their 50 days for $50 which was a really great deal. I actually love it, the classes are a bit challenging at first, but the instructors do an awesome job at motivating everyone to keep pushing through! One of my favorite things is how much of an effort they take to learn everyone’s names.

Bar Method Point Loma is the best full body workout and community with fun challenges that keep us engaged. This is my 12th year and the new classes keep it fresh. I'm a lifelong exerciser and Bar Method is, by far, the most effective exercise for building strength, flexibility and balance. You need to give it time to get your form right, but once you do you will notice that your body is different and much better - toned, sculpted and strong. Bar Method Point Loma has been my second home for years. The workouts are amazing; the instructors are extraordinary, and the staff and our community could not be more welcoming. This is the best workout. I have been coming for almost 10 years and I haven't looked back. The teachers are friendly, encouraging, but tough. You know you'll walk out of class having worked hard. One thing I have loved about bar is being able to continue to do the workout throughout my pregnancies. I'm on my 3rd pregnancy but never felt stronger. I credit bar to being able to bounce back quickly postpartum. Not only are the instructors great but the students help to create the atmosphere. I have met the best people and lifelong friends.

If you haven't tried Bar Method, you SHOULD! I've been doing The Bar Method for years and it is a fun, challenging workout that never gets boring. My body looks and feels great when I go 4+ times a week, but even when I can only come a couple of times a week I notice improvement to my overall health. I sleep better, eat better, and my mood is significantly improved.
But I have to say the BEST thing about The Bar Method is the people. The instructors and staff make everyone feel like family. They are so welcoming and helpful, eager to help everyone get the most out of the workout. Also, the clientele (predominantly women) are very encouraging and supportive.
No matter your age, weight, skill level, etc, The Bar Method works wonders! (There are women in their 70s who workout here EVERYDAY - incredible.) If you have injuries, you're pregnant, or you just need to start slow, the fabulous instructors will help you tailor the workout to fit your needs.
I really can't say enough good things. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. It's my little workout family :) Try a few classes. I promise you'll be hooked!

This is the best workout I have found since I stopped taking ballet classes. The staff is warm, friendly, professional, knowledgeable and safe.
I have met life long friends in class. I look forward to seeing everyone each morning. We encourage and hold each other accountable. Being with my Bar mates is the only reason I get out of bed at 6:00 am to go to the 7:15 class!! We walk afterwards around Liberty Station and enjoy going to movies and other social events outside of bar. The classes are challenging but the staff is there to help you. Try a month of class 3 times a week and you will see results!!

The Bar Method is amazing! Nothing that I have tried has ever shaped my muscles like The Bar Method. The work out hits every part of your body. The instructors are great and really make sure you are in the right form to get the most out of the workout. Unquestionably one of the best workouts I have ever done. The studio and staff are out of this world. From the time you walk into the studio, which is clean and welcoming, you feel like you are a part of a community. Every staff member takes the time to get to know your name, and makes special efforts to make you feel like "part of the family". The Bar Method instructors are knowledgeable and guide you through every step of the class. The workout can be intense, and with the encouragement, hands on adjustment to your form, and the information you are given about why you are doing what you are doing, you push through the challenge and finish the hour feeling like you have really accomplished something. I am not a "gym person". I don't enjoy lifting heavy things, and I don't enjoy the gym atmosphere. The only workout routines that I have ever stuck with have been fun and encouraging. This fits the bill for me. I have been a member at Point Loma for more that a year. I go to 3-4 classes per week, and I never feel like it is a chore. I love the community, encouragement, and the physical and mental strength I have developed. I highly recommend this workout to anyone! I'm stronger than I have ever been and I owe it to the great staff at Bar Method Point Loma!!

I LOVE Bar Method! As someone who grew up training in dance, I’ve tried a few different barre classes and I believe that Bar Method still stands as the safest and most effective workout of its kind. The classes will definitely have you quivering and feeling the burn in many places, but several modifications are offered if you have any injuries, sensitivities, etc. Instructors regularly go around the room to check everyone’s form, which may take some getting used to, at first; however, I’ve found this very helpful in performing the more technical moves correctly and preventing injury.
The Point Loma location is beautiful — two studios with lots of light and great views of Liberty Station, ample parking, and a personable staff who greets you by name. I’m only a month into my membership but I will absolutely be renewing for next month and many more to come!

I love everything about Bar Method Point Loma!! From the moment I nervously walked into my first class I felt welcomed and supported! Julie was the instructor that first night and I was immediately hooked! My goal was to complete 15 classes in my first month and I did it!! Love, love, love everything! The studio, showers and lockers are clean and towels are provided. The staff and instructors are friendly and supportive. The online schedule makes it easy to reserve, change or cancel in a pinch. So many time slots, something for everyone! The best part are the classes, instant gratification, you can feel and see the difference after just a few classes. Combines the best of everything I love; yoga, Pilates, weights, cardio and abs all at once. The instructors correct and inform throughout the workout and they know you name! I can’t imagine doing anything else.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this workout, this site at Point Loma, and the staff that make it happen! A workout designed by physical therapists for all fitness levels with strong attention to detail and individual modifications at the ready to avoid injury and strengthen bodies. The instructors do not do their personal work out alongside you, they walk with you through the sets providing you with adjustments and encouragement. I had been wanting to try Barre classes for a few years, but for some reason was dragging my feet. I recently started classes at the Point loma location, and wished I had started sooner. The instructors are amazing, and push your limits in a motivating and encouraging way. They focus on making sure your posture and movements are correct, so that your working the targeted muscle and not causing injuries. After two weeks of classes I began to see more flexibility in my body, and am feeling stronger physically and mentally. I would highly recommend Bar Method in Point Loma to everyone. Don’t put it off, you will love it!

I have been a Bar Method devotee since 2012. I took classes several times a week at the Bar Method in Pasadena for years before moving away. While living in Pasadena, I would visit my boyfriend- now husband- who lived in San Diego on the weekends and take weekend classes at the Point Loma Studio. From my first class everyone was so nice and welcoming. It felt like a second home studio.
After a couple of exercise-less year in the Bay Area, we moved back down to San Diego a few months ago and I was excited to start going to Bar Method again at Point Loma. Getting back into the workout has been challenging, but in the best way. I love rediscovering my strength and flexibility and being part of such a friendly community of teachers and students.
It's been nice to see how the workout has evolved over the years with new exercises and options, but still routine enough to not be intimidating or overwhelming. As someone who hated exercise (and fell back into the habit of doing nothing not so long ago), Bar Method has been a savior. It is fun, approachable, convenient and EFFECTIVE. I used to not be able to even hold a plank and now I can do 30 pushups in a row!

This is an amazing workout and a caring community. Not many guys do Bar Method, I think that's a mistake. As an avid skateboarder Bar Method has enabled me to skate more often and get injured less frequently, and it's not because I'm falling less! :) Bar has made me significantly stronger, more flexible, resulting in less strains and sprains, and (due to the enormity of push ups and shoulder work) less likely to dislocate when I slam! Every instructor at this Bar Method studio works diligently to refine their craft to ensure you can bust your own butt! I have been going to this studio for 3 months now and absolutely love it. Even though I’m 10x stronger than I was before, there’s always a way to challenge yourself. The instructors make it a point to learn your name and help you get better by calling you out in class. There are many classes throughout the work day to fit with your schedule, as well as showers and a large powder room equipped with all the things you could possibly need to get ready. Be aware of the cancellation/ attendance policy...$10 if you miss a class you signed up for. I recommend it to all my friends and family!

Can I just say how much I LOVE this Studio. Here's my digest version on how I found this place. In 2012 I was t-boned in an intersection, this car accident left me jacked-up with pain on my right side, especially my neck. I was unable to exercise (the way I was used to) for 4yrs. When I was given the greenlight to go back to my active lifestyle, I didn't want to go back to a traditional gym/boot camp. After much research I found The Bar Method in 2016. Allison has created a wonderful atmosphere at the Point Loma location, from the fun, sassy and super friendly instructors/staff to a fresh clean studio. For me The Bar Method is kind to my body, yet challenging. I could go on and on... let me just say this, if you have been thinking about trying The Bar Method you just need to get down here and try it. You won't be disappointed!!

I have started Bar Method and quit several times but I always go back. I have quit because of moving, busy work schedules, etc. But when I leave I always gain weight and end up feeling bad. I've been going to workout classes forever (think, Jane Fonda's studio) which gives you a rough idea of my age. I have tried a lot of different bar studios but Bar Method, Point Loma, really sets itself apart in many ways. Every staff person greets you with genuine warmth, knows your name and remembers it. The facility is very attractive and spotless. The instructors are well trained and provide correction and encouragement throughout the workout. In addition, there is no air of competition, which matters to someone like me who is trying to rebuild after multiple hip surgeries. After roughly 10 classes, I can already feel my strength and balance improving.
Well, I am at five months in and have now built up to going every other day, roughly 12-15 classes per month. I am so much stronger and can now get much more out of each workout. There are options during class that I can now do. Most important, I have yet to experience any injury as a result and can see the changes in my body. The constant encouragement from staff makes it easy to push through the reps! Love it.

Been coming for over a year. The workouts are always challenging and fun. The barre-tenders (isnt that cute?) are amazing. They keep the class motivated and entertained throughout the entire workout. They're always there to give you that little mental push to keep going when you think you can't. I have seen my flexibility and physical (and mental) strength grow so much. I absolutely LOVE the Bar Method in Point Loma! I wish I could provide 100 stars in this review, because the workout, the studio, and the amazing instructors who continue to inspire, encourage, and motivate me have literally changed my life!
I promise you have not experienced true muscle fatigue or failure until you’ve experienced Bar! Soccer, mountain biking, snowboarding, and bootcamp classes were not enough to get me conditioned for this workout. I was so humbled during my first class—my legs were shaking and quivering, and days later I felt soreness in muscles I didn’t know existed!
Although I felt a bit defeated after my first class, Alison, the studio owner and my very first instructor, was incredibly supportive and encouraging. She even sent me a hand-written note a few days later thanking me for attending her class, and congratulating me on completing my first workout. What a wonderful and personal touch! I soon came to realize I was being taught by top-notch, expert instructors, who also happen to be truly exceptional people. Alison has recruited some of the most talented teachers, and they are all unique and special in their own right. It was a new experience for me to receive so much attention and corrections on my form. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this initially, but over time, I came to understand that the corrections are absolutely essential—the teachers are there to keep you safe and free from injury, and also to ensure you get the most you possibly can out of each movement. I've progressed so much with their help and guidance. They’re very serious about giving you the best workout they possibly can, but they have also managed to create a warm, fun, and welcoming environment. You really feel like you’re a part of their community. But please don’t let their sweetness fool you! They each have the ability to murder your muscles without hesitation, so don’t be surprised if you’re dropping f-bombs under your breath. ;-)
If the challenging workout, phenomenal people, and beautiful studio aren’t enough to convince you to check out Bar in Point Loma, then let me tell you about the results. Even though I’ve been athletic my whole life, I’ve still carried more adipose on my small frame than I was comfortable with. I used to kill myself in the gym doing 2+ hour workouts, but I was always so frustrated and disappointed by the lack of results those workouts produced. I had made peace with my body for the most part, and tried to accept the fact that I just didn’t have the genetics to reach my body ideal. I committed to regular Bar classes with the goal of maintaining my health and fitness, and continuing to cultivate my physical and mental strength. I never expected to lose weight or change the shape of my body, but that’s exactly what has happened. In the 9 months I’ve been attending Bar classes, I’ve lost 22 pounds and dropped 3 pants sizes. My arms and legs are the most defined and toned they’ve ever been, and yet the heaviest dumbbell I pick up is 4 pounds! The micro-movements in Bar are so unique, and they lengthen and sculpt muscles like no other workout. I’m extremely thrilled by my weight loss, but I’m equally thrilled by my strength and flexibility gains—I can now do 60+ push-ups on my toes, and I can perform the front splits! Before Bar, I wasn’t able to pull off either of these fitness feats. This is the first time I have ever felt like the rewards I receive match the effort I put in. What an amazing feeling!
I can say, without a doubt, that the Bar Method in Point Loma is helping me live my life to its fullest potential. I’ve been taking Bar Method for a little over 6 years and it’s by far my favorite workout. It strengthens and tones my body and I feel and look good. The Point Loma studio is great! The best workout class I have ever signed up for! The staff is incredible and very personable. It feels like going to visit my friends every time I go to class (which makes waking up at 5 AM to work out much more enjoyable). Bar Method is a very challenging technique, but after 3 weeks of coming to the studio, I already feel stronger and more flexible! The instructors are all incredibly professional and get to know all of the students by name so that even in a large class, they can give you encouragement and notes to help correct your form.

The Bar Method Point Loma has totally changed my life physically and mentally. The environment is very positive and the group of people who fill the studio (employees & clients) are so supportive with open arms.
As for the classes, each workout is more challenging than the next, no matter how many times or days you attend.
All the instructors are so friendly, informative and helpful throughout the classes, which makes sense to why the body defining results begin quickly.

This is my favorite Bar Method location. I've been to several throughout the country & I ♥ The Bar Method Point Loma. The location is gorgeous in historic Liberty Station. The instructors really know their stuff and are warm & friendly, which is important when in this environment. Always encouraging you to do more, work harder. The results are a toned body! I love Bar Method! Definitely one of the more challenging barre workouts in San Diego and it is my favorite! The workout targets the whole body and I've seen huge results in my flexibility and it has definitely toned my body. What I love is that they have classes that cater to both beginners and regulars. Bar Move is my favorite level but I also love that they have the regular class for when I bring a friend that is new to barre. All the instructors are super sweet and the studio is very posh and clean and in such a chic location (hello, Liberty Station!) with tons of parking. Always love coming to Bar Method.

I absolutely LOVED being a part of this gym! All of the instructors were amazing .. the owner cares so much about her students and her staff and they REALLY whip your butt into shape (literally.. your butt) with gentle correction and this kind of coaching yiu will certainly be in the best shape of your life - the unlimited pass was such a good deal and when I signed up there was also a special for new members so it was a great way to dip my toes in!

It's fun, doesn't injure me, it's challenging, and I see results... and did I say it's always challenging? I also love the instructors and members in the community here at Pt. Loma. If you want to feel and be strong, lean, and have great posture.. and even be a little taller, try BAR Method. I can't tell you how glad I am to have tried the 30 day challenge. Love the workouts, environment and staff! Everyone is amazing! Coming from a background of high intensity workouts it was hard at first to wrap my head around the small- precise moves that focus on each muscle group BUT the results have been apparent after just a couple weeks. Posture has improved substantially and muscle definition has been exciting to see! I feel strong and lean. I also just had my 4th knee surgery and nothing I have done at BAR has negatively effected my knees, only made them feel stronger with no pain. The instructors are friendly and constantly helping with posture corrections. You can tell they care, plus I've seen all of them take class as well so they walk what they preach!
