The Bar Method San Mateo is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. This is such a great studio. The owner, Noreen, is wonderful. All the instructors here are wonderful. I started attending when I became pregnant and wanted to stay in shape but didn’t wanted to go about it in a safe manner. Everyone was so accommodating. They were knowledgeable and gave me modifications. The classes are really tough and the instructors push you to challenge yourself but it’s okay to go at your pace and no one makes you feel bad.

To find the best workout style for myself being a sassy over 50 gal was a process. I even tried ballet, that was bad plan. When I discovered Bar Method San Mateo, I found my tribe. Not only are the workouts address all that is needed for a gal who is 50 and fabulous, but the instructors and the attendees are the nicest bunch. It has also helped to keep me accountable. Signed up at this location, was unable to access account via the new app. Called spoke to the receptionist that signed me up, she saw her error attempt to fix...didn't work. Then informed me she will have IT call me to fix...never heard from IT. Therefore I called back no answer went there place is close. Hello please return my money πŸ’°. I found somewhere else that have time and excellent customer service.

I can't say enough kind words for The Bar Method; I've had so many injuries due to working out incorrectly; what I love about The Bar, is the Teachers do not do the class w/us..they are watching us and making corrections...the Front Desk Staff are so kind and pleasant and the Teachers are the best!!

Haven't met a class or instructor that I haven't liked! Everyone is friendly, knowledgable, and kind at the SM Bar Method. '

Additionally, the facility is spotless. Showers are clean. Main room well-lit and well-ventilated. Very nice location.

I love LOVE coming here. The classes are fast paced so I don't get bored or overwhelmed with the struggle of the moves. The teachers are the perfect combination of supportive and corrective. It's easy to get to, lots of class options. I've taken classes with maybe 6 different teachers and they've all been great. I walk out of the workout feeling my body burning, but not the exhausted tired that leaves me feeling weak all day. I just feel stronger.

June 2019 Update
It's been 1.5 years at Bar Method
It's been a terrific journey.... the classes are improving
to make it better for us to grasp and effectively perform
the positions/exercises. I really appreciate how the routines
are refined ( Careful thought goes into the program)
The variety and teachers keep the program fun and
interesting with great attention to each participant.

New classes and more classes were added. The schedule is the
best to accommodate everyone's schedule.... morning, noon or
evening and weekends.... you can always find a class!

Other reasons to come:
> The staff is very friendly and helpful.
> A superb reservation system
> The facilities, classes and staff do everything to make it a fun and comfortable experience.
> Parking is so easy.
> You'll feel great!

2018:
I have been attending classes at San Mateo Bar Method for about 6-7 months now. The teachers and staff are first rate and take a personal approach to maximize the experience for each student. They help students with gentle corrections and explanations during the class.
The upbeat music is motivational and keeps you going.
Each person can focus on challenging moves if they’re ready. It’s not high pressure but very encouraging. It's great that each class varies so it's not totally repetitive. I started with 2-3 classes a week and now I'm attending about 4 classes a week and it feels great. I'm still learning to refine each pose by getting the right positioning, posture and alignment with the help of patient teachers. :) I usually take the noon express and standard one hour classes and the cardio workout is just right with room to push further.
When I first started, it was all new to me - I had a hard time with my pushups but I’m getting better. (My previous program was hot bikram but the heat was difficult to endure.) i'm still working on the abdomen curls and lifts which take more effort from me.
BAR Method exercises focus on core strength ( abdomen, all leg muscles and arm muscles ). It's very comprehensive. There's always plenty of convenient parking at the San Mateo location and the reservation process is perfect to ensure good class sizes.
The monthly unlimited membership is just right for me - I go on extended vacations occasionally and they allow a one month suspension.
I would highly recommend Bar Method! Give it a try!

I really enjoy the classes taught at this studio. I didn't grow up doing ballet/dance/gymnastics (or any organized sports), and I'm not someone who enjoys working out, but somehow I've been coming here consistently for over a year! The corrections made by the instructors are very helpful.

The workout itself is well-designed and precise in its form. The instructors are very hands-on in ensuring your body is in the proper form for the exercise to prevent injury and obtain the best result. The location is very clean and airy and the equipment is well maintained. Pricing is transparent and the policies flexible to enable a busy work schedule. It's not an easy routine, but the Express and Move classes are a welcome addition to the schedule, which has early morning (6am) and late evening (6.30pm) classes. It can be intimidating to start a new routine but the people - from the front desk to the instructors and the other clients - make you feel very welcome and at ease.

I would give them 10 stars if I could! For me, Bar method has given me the best results compared to any other type of exercise I have done (Pilates on reformers, yoga, gym workouts, etc). It has changed my body- given me more muscle, but longer and leaner muscle instead of bulking up. I've been going for a year or so, and it never gets old or easy! I am stronger and my posture is better than ever before. The San Mateo studio is so clean, beautiful, and welcoming. They are a fabulous group of instructors and staff, and it's a pleasure coming to class!

I am just coming to the end of attending bar classes for a month, & I absolutely love it! I am an active person already but this is a whole new kind of workout for me. At first I didn't like the classes; I wasn't sweating and my muscles weren't sore. But as my form improved so did my workout. They really put the effort in to helping you improve your form and giving you adjustments throughout class. First time I've been given curl modifications that actually prevent my neck and shoulder tiring out before my abs!

I've completed 10 classes and am very glad I've begun. This is a fabulous, leg/core/arm intensive work out with attentive and exceptionally qualified instructors who correct form and are encourage everyone. Very accommodating front desk and nice locker room/shower area. I find the floor interesting in that it is a thick carpet. San Mateo location is so very popular that you need to reserve in advance or miss out.
