I was visiting from Seattle and SO excited to practice again with my favorite teacher, JL, who moved to SF years ago.

The Castro Room is beautiful, bright, and full of good energy. JL’s classes are the perfect mix of challenging and grounding, with her signature wisdom & warmth that make everyone feel at home. I left classes feeling strong, open, and so glad I came. If you’re in the Bay, don’t miss JL here!

Jason’s class is hands down the best yoga class I’ve ever taken. His verbal cues are exceptional—clear, effective, and even thought-provoking. The practice is strong, classic, and meditative—it truly feels like a workout and a moving meditation in one. It’s challenging in the best way: I feel pushed to grow and improve, but it never feels out of reach. The studio space is stunning, with high ceilings, bright natural light, and an open, airy feel. The room is warm enough to work up a solid sweat, but never uncomfortably hot—just the right balance. The staff is kind and helpful, and everything is always impeccably clean. 10/10 across the board.

An incredible studio. The warmth, both literally and figuratively, is really something.

I’ve had good instructors every time, and I appreciate what they’re doing with their more cost-accessible community classes (which used to be $5, but now are $15 — still very good for yoga in the city)

I’d recommend this studio to anyone in the neighbourhood, or for those seeking a longer and deeper practice!

Great yoga studio, but the class size limit really needs to be lower. During peak times, mats were only 3 inches apart, which no one wants in a yoga class. A less crowded space would significantly improve the quality of the experience.

Great class, but overall not cheap for a room that was very crowded. Mats had to be 3 inches from each other, and there were over 50 people in the room. The air in the room felt saturated and the lack of space to move freely was a little distracting.

The space is great, very spacious and always clean. They are friendly and professional people.

The reason why I continuously attend this space is for the sound baths with Erica Nguyen (Sound Healing Project). I highly recommend checking her project out and attending any of her sound baths if you can!

What a gem this place is! I’ve been an on and off yoga practitioner for many years and have tried lots of SF studios, I did the online class thing for a while, and in recent years have really been underwhelmed by both the studios and classes that I’ve taken - there’s a corporate feeling to many of them that is hard to connect to.

The Castro Room is the exact opposite of this, from the moment you walk in, you can feel that there is a great deal of care that goes into both the studio and the community it serves. The space itself is absolutely beautiful, the room is huge and warmly bright - warm enough to stretch and sweat, but not so warm that you feel like you’re going to pass out! It’s tasteful and clean without being overdone. Mimi and the folks there have created a welcoming and genuine space in a seamless kind of way. There’s something about coming in from the hustle and bustle of the Castro and the outside world to this space that always feels so grounding and nurturing.

They have an amazing lineup of teachers. I’m currently really enjoying Sunny’s Tuesday/ Thursday morning classes. She is aptly named: there is such a brightness to her classes and I always feel uplifted afterward. They're super well rounded, well paced, a good workout and always unique; that feeling of tranquility and balance mixed with a really good sweat, like you’ve wrung out every part of your body.

Another great perk about this place? All classes before noon Monday - Friday are reduced or sliding scale. A rare find these days - making yoga affordable for most.

What can I say, it is just such an upper to go there - nothing but good vibes!

Natalie’s Flow and Restore class at the Castro Room is a truly cathartic experience! She has the ability to guide you through poses that not only challenge and strengthen your body but also bring a deep sense of peace and clarity to your mind.

The class begins with an invigorating 45 minute all-levels slow flow practice and ends with several relaxing restorative poses. Natalie creates a warm and welcoming environment during the class. Her clear instructions and gentle encouragement make it easy to follow along, even for beginners like myself. But what sets this class apart is the mindfulness aspect that she integrates into each session. I left the class feeling rejuvenated, both physically and mentally.

If you're looking for a holistic yoga class that nurtures both your body and your mind, I highly recommend attending a class with Natalie at the Castro Room. I can't wait for my next session!

One experiences a very special feeling walking up the stairs to this sacred studio. It’s a feeling of coming home while also knowing you are about to experience something new. Each teacher offers their wisdom and love for yoga in EVERY class. Regardless of what may be going on - I always leave lighter while feeling grounded - stronger and inspired. The welcoming staff - open community - and the light - is nurturing. We just took Haley Havelock’s phenom class Sunday morning and we didn’t want to leave. This happens a lot in her class, and with other teachers in this room. It’s a spiritual spot in the city - lead by outstanding teachers. Thank you!

There is such power in this studio that you can feel immediately when you step inside. It is so open and spacious and bright. Call yourself blessed if you get to take a class with Molly. She has an ethereal presence that makes you feel connected to your mat and the moment. Her sequences always feel great in the body and will equally push you and relax you. No other studio in the city compares to this one. Thank you The Castro Room!

I love this place. Huge calm space with both ceiling boards to absorb sound and lighting that is never in your eyes when you're on your back. Lots of high windows. The teachers are excellent and their sliding scale options are a community service to the neighborhood. I go to a LOT of different studios and had to stop to praise this one.

I have been attending classes at The Castro Room for 2 months. Everyone in the studio is warm and friendly which creates an amazing vibe. Michael (Tues/Thurs 7am) leads an amazing Vinyasa series that is both intense but also grounding. His warmth and encouragement bring a smile to my face (even when in warrior 3) and a perfect start to my day.

I appreciate and enjoy getting to experience Estee skillfully guiding us through each move with calming energy that brings me gently into my body. I can feel the difference, both in the alignment of my body and the peacefulness of my mind, on weeks when I make it to Estee’s class. I’m grateful for the attuned presence she offers to beginners all the way to the more advanced positions. She makes it ease to choose which level your body is comfortable with that day. I look forward to my next class and the way I feel after. Thank you Estee and The Castro Room for providing this level of excellence 🙏🏼

Thank you M.ikeRichardson for helping me during my first visit to the Castro Room Studio. I was visiting from out of town and I felt exasperated that I might arrive too late to attend Jason Bowman’s Monday class. So grateful that I was able to experience this amazing space that was brought back to this SF community.
Like the Alpenflow space in Truckee, the Castro Room in SF is a beautiful space to practice, feel welcomed and to be at Home. So many great inspiring teachers, guides, people… it is truly a space to show up again and again. Namaste

I've been part of the SF yoga scene for 25 years. If I could close my eyes, pick my favorite teachers in the Bay Area, and an ideal space to practice in, it would be the Castro Room. I have fond memories of classes there with so much love in the room, and it's been updated and upgraded post pandemic to an even more special and focused place with all the best teachers you could ask for in yoga, not just SF. Go there now!!! Namaste.

The Castro Room and Flow and Restore with Natalie Donnell: A Breath of Fresh Air in the Heart of San Francisco most vibrant neighborhood.

Stepping into the Castro Room is like finding a hidden oasis in the bustling city. This spacious, warm haven, nestled in the vibrant streets of San Francisco, is more than just a yoga studio – it’s a sanctuary. With room enough to comfortably fit a small army (100+ people, I would imagine!), the studio still manages to feel intimate and personal.

What really sets the Castro Room apart is its welcoming vibe. The staff are as friendly as your favorite barista, and the place is spotlessly clean. Forgot your mat or towel? No worries! They’ve got you covered with rentals, along with all the yoga props you could dream of – bolsters, blocks, blankets, and straps.

But the crown jewel of my experience was Natalie Donnell’s Flow and Restore class. Imagine a room softly lit by candlelight, inviting you to set an intention and let go of the day’s hustle. This class isn’t your typical, run-of-the-mill yoga session. We began uniquely, with legs up the wall, and the flow of the class gently progressed, allowing for deep, intentional breaths at each pose – a true rarity in a world of fast-paced classes.

Natalie’s approach to yoga is a breath of fresh air (literally!). For someone like me, who prefers a more measured breathing pace, this class was a godsend. The slow flow allowed for a deeper connection with each asana, and I felt my body, especially my hips and lower back, open up in ways they hadn’t in other classes. If only this class were offered daily!

This studio is a gem, and it’s not just because of the physical space. It’s about the ethos they embody – a practice that embraces uncertainty, change, and the beauty of the present moment. Their philosophy resonates deeply with me: yoga isn’t just about chasing bliss or peace; it’s about making room for life as it is.

For those considering diving in, the membership is tempting at $150 per month for unlimited classes, especially considering the standard rates of $15-$30 per class. And if you’re just dipping your toes in, check out their ‘3 classes for $30’ special – it’s a steal!

The instructor roster is like the who’s who of the Bay Area yoga scene – Estee Fletter, Jason Bowman, Leila Swenson, Janet Stone, Molly Barber, Mike Richardson, Pete Guinosso, Regan Catanzaro, and Zeynep Urgun. Each brings a unique flavor and depth to their classes.

In conclusion, the Castro Room isn’t just a studio; it’s a community and a journey. It’s a place where you can start anew, focus your attention, and revel in the joy of togetherness and dedication. If you’re live or are visiting San Francisco and you want some yoga in your life, the Castro Room doesn’t disappoint.

See you there and namaste 🙏🏾

Best yoga studio in San Francisco. It used to be Yoga Tree. I recommend Jason Bowman (exquisite, meditative, challenging, & detailed), Rebecca Rogers (extraordinarily astute as a teacher & with a beautiful singing voice), Nikita Mehta (incredible), Mike Richardson (experimental & therapeutic) Janet Stone (queen of yoga teachers.)

The Castro Room offers free classes, community classes, and their memberships are very reasonable.

They are cultivating new, young teachers. And they have a work trade program, too.

What that means is they are building an inclusive, diverse community.

This studio is owned by yoga teachers, not a corporation. It took them 3 years to get this wonderful yoga space back, as during the Pandemic Yoga Tree was bought by Yoga Works and they abandoned it and 6 other studios when their profits were threatened.

Come and practice with us! Save the planet by saving your mind & body & spirit.

I don't live in the area, but was curious to check it out because one of my fave teachers, Sunny Grosso, leads several of the classes. It didn't disappoint. The space is beautiful - calm, relaxing, spacious, great light. I usually attend the Tuesday & Thursday 9 a.m. session. It's a strong athletic class with great music, solid instruction and lots of attention from the teacher.

I am so glad this space is back, refreshed, revived, reborn. Have been going for about a month now - there were four yogis in the first class I attended and 15 or so in the one last week. It's good to see the community growing. I am usually over-devoted to specific teachers but the energy of the space is so positive that I happily signed up up for a sub when the teacher for my regular class was off and ... he was good too. Say hi to me - I am the oldest person in the class (any class)!

A legend is reborn! 😍This was the iconic Yoga Tree Castro, a cornerstone of the SF yoga world for decades - and it’s back! Same incredible space (bright, vaulted ceilings and massive space with amazing vibes that feels so magical and held, perfect temperature that’s warm so you sweat but not roast, but with brand new floors and surround sound!), and a renowned lineup of rockstar teachers who could or already do offer their own teacher trainings! 🥳 This schedule is unbelievable!! And, there’s actually parking. Thank you so much for bringing back this celebrated sacred space and community, such a gift!! ✨🙏🏼✨

Gratitude is a powerful force that can lead one to make an attempt at articulating the ineffable —even on google—knowing that words will always fall short. This room is an integral part of the community and walking through the door and up the stairs was a joyous homecoming. The humans that have opened these doors once more have poured their whole hearts into the space. It took years of fortitude for this return and I truly cannot recommend a better room to practice and breathe in community, it is a sanctuary space. Thank you humans of Castro Room for making it so. The love and resonance is resounding, y’all did it!
