They used to have a pretty decent day-care here. They had drop-in hours that made it worth it for a membership for my family. At some point they changed that policy which made it not work for us to come anymore. They made it very difficult to cancel, even though it was because of their own policy change that made us not able to come anymore. Had to come in, fill out the paperwork, someone else has to actually process that. The actual interaction of trying to cancel the membership was honestly just openly rude. Odd way to treat someone who has paid thousands of dollars to your business.

The gym itself is fine, a lot of the staff I interacted with when coming here were really nice, especially the day care staff when we were able to do that. I never did any classes but I hear those are fine also. But they definitely fit the gym stereotype of making it as difficult and painful as possible to actually cancel a membership. Now that I am in a position to go to a gym again I explored other options and now realize there are other gyms in the area that are more respectful to their customers, have better facilities, and are better communities in general.

So anyone considering a membership here I would just recommend trying it for a day (I think they only give you 1 day to trial the gym, others will give you 1 week), try other gyms, and give an honest comparison before you pull the trigger.

I do enjoy this gym. They have childcare with lots of toys and a lovely staff. I just can't seem to catch them when they're busy with kids. I'd love for my son to play.

Their pool is amazing. Very clean (you can smell it) and a nice temperature. I haven't been in the hot tub yet, but there is one.

Many classes daily, even on the weekends. The spin class is really good, with very understanding coaches. I have a bad knee, and the coach was like take it easy. Slow down if you need to and do what you can.

No one is Judgy. I've seen people of all shapes and sizes. We all go in there, mind our own business, and workout.

Oh and one other thing I really liked! They give you the option to pay for the whole year at once. So if you hate being held to monthly payments you can pay for the full year.

Adding more to this post. I started coming to this facility since it first opened and there have been issues with the pool filtration system since then. I mentioned this to a worker this morning who declared he’s been here 2 years and the pool Has never been this bad. Again, I shared my experiences that it has been this bad before. Once again he stated “No I’ve been here for two years and I check it everyday and it has never been this bad.” Hmm, I believe the pool opened in 2019 which means it has been in operation for approximately 5 years, minus the Covid shut down. By my calculations that is more than 2 years. I would recommend management coach the workers to listen to folks who have been using the facility longer than they have been employed and believe them when they share their own experiences rather than discount and infer the information shared is not accurate. I canceled my membership at the facility about six months ago because of the issues with the pool. I recently moved to McKinnleyville and reinstated my membership. I am still waiting to use the pool!

I can honestly say that The Club is among the things I miss most about Humboldt County. My wife and I wish we could find a comparable fitness center. Where else can you get a smoothie, blast out some deadlifts, cycle, do some barre, and then sit in a hot tub for that price? Seriously one of the best fitness centers on the West Coast.

First time coming with a friend and it was a really nice facility! I just used the pool and hot tub, but the water was very clean and the hot tub was really nice and hot. There is a bathing suit dryer that is extremely nice to use before heading home.

These are some of the best facilities in the area for sure. The expansive selection of equipment and services make this a true fitness and wellness center. Unfortunately the rates are high with poor management and a lack of industry experience that takes away from the potential experience of the members and especially prospective members.

They make it almost impossible to cancel your membership! You need to go to the front desk and fill out a cancelation form and hope they process it and cancel your membership! I signed up in January and tried to cancel on the same day due to medical issues. I just received another bill on March 10th for another $130! Bringing my total to $460 for 2 very short gym visits! I called to check why I am still getting billed and they said my membership is still active and is scheduled to cancel next month in April! THIS IS ROBBERY! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THE CLUB!

Very down to earth non judgemental people. I haven't worked out in forever and I am overly conscious of that but I've received nothing but encouragement and support that I'm starting somewhere. Clean facilities and an awesome variety of equipment as well as sauna and steam room. Love the pool and hot tub as well. Not overly chlorinated which is great. They fix or clean something pretty fast when something happens as well. Very happy. A bit pricey but worth it in my eyes.

Love this place. Great gym. They keep the locker rooms so clean & tidy. Staff is friendly. The pool and hot tub are great. Edited 9/14/23: unfortunately the women's locker room hasn't been as clean over the last few months as when I first left the review... Still leaving 5 stars overall because it's a great location, the sauna is awesome, most of the staff are welcoming and friendly and the pool and hot tub are fabulous. Hopefully the attention to detail and cleanliness of the locker rooms throughout the day will return.

Very disorganized and disappointing. Every time I’ve needed to get someone on the phone they’ll leave a note but refuse to call you back. I tried for months while I was out of town. They will only email you sparsely and it took me months to have one conversation with staff. One time I dropped an earring through the sauna bench and it took them a month to take a screw driver and retrieve it for me with again, bad communication and I had to keep calling to check if they’d gotten it..
They also have a 30 day cancellation policy and make sure you email instead of calling if you want to cancel because they won’t talk to you unless you email..

I come to this gym to do a mile on the treadmill everyday. I appreciate there is plenty of parking, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The facility is clean, machines are always working and it’s never been too too busy when I come in to do my usual routine. My only complaint has to do with other members who don't wipe machines after use or those who leave puddles of water by the lockers. But staff are quick to wipe up the water puddles when they see them.

I've had a great experience. The staff is helpful and friendly. The facility is kept clean at all times. I've had great aquatics classes with Stephanie. Lap swimming is an enjoyable experience in a clean pool. My free session with a personal trainer Earl, motivated me to purchase more sessions. He was very helpful getting me started on my personal fitness goals and provided exercises that would address old injuries. The price is worth every penny. I have now taken yoga and dance classes. I am so impressed with the expertise of each of the instructors.

I had horrible customer experience here. You would think a gym that you’re paying more to go to would treat its members better. I took a pause in my membership when I had to be away for a couple months, and didn’t think they would try to still charge me. Every other service that I stop paying for understands that is when I don’t want the service anymore, but this gym wants to take more money from people unethically. Now that I’m ready to go back to the gym I will not be going to this one, but to Planet Fitness in Eureka.
This gym wants to sends collections to my house, but this gym will not get my loyal membership again.

I’ve been a member of The Club for Fitness ever since I moved to McKinleyville 3 years ago. Definitely the best gym I’ve ever been a member of. All of the staff here have created a wonderful culture of fun, inclusiveness and encouragement. So many great classes that are accessible to many fitness levels. Personally I only come to this location because I find the environment more welcoming and comfortable for my likings. The front desk staff are always kind and friendly! Pros:

Lots of options for working out and classes, and decent membership prices.

Cons:

The gym closes too early (5pm) on the weekends.

South American migrants who live in their vans come in here to bathe and have very bad attitudes.

No one working here knows how to run billing. My card on file was charged for all kinds of transactions that I did not authorize.
All of the receptionists need to be trained to do their jobs better so there is some kind of consistency with billing; Or only have a few dedicated employees who are in charge of billing. Figure it out!

Every member I have talked to at the gym agrees with me that The Club should stay open until 8-9 pm on the weekend. I have talked to at least 40 people regarding the gym closing at 5 pm. You telling me there isn't enough demand from customers is not accurate.

2.)

I understand your gym does not block members based on their gender, ethnicity, religion, age. But, you have some pretty rude members who go here and I have mentioned this to your manager.

3.)

I understand there is only one person who runs billing. However, your front end staff all have the ability to charge my card; the front end staff should not have this access if they don't know what the hell they are doing.

I'm a disabled senior and was over charged, mischarged without restitution and they do not back the verbal contracts made by their employees about services and charges. My contract for services was seriously not kept on their part. They also ignore emails, voicemail and messages. And, I joined six months before they opened at the Central location and lost the entire month of November which they took even after I signed a freeze order, when I quit in response to their toxic treatment of me.

No integrity and poor customer service. The employees have been short with me on several occasions and now they've billed me for two months even though I've been trying to have my account canceled. They never answer the phone and pretend that they didn't get my voicemails asking to cancel even though I've left several. I like this place. It's bright, modern and has a ton of equipment. All of the staff have been so friendly and helpful. I really enjoy the pilates classes as well. My kid loves the fitness circuit and smaller machines. The new gym has a beautiful pool, sauna, and I'm looking forward to the Barre classes once they start up.

I love everything about The Club! I am an individual who truly strives with atmosphere and the club is just that! The atmosphere, the vibe, and the layout are spot on. When you walk in there is always a friendly face to greet you at the door. The facility is top notch and like nothing else in Humboldt. Cody is my trainer and worth every penny. The Club so far as a small starter gym has been good. Nice equipment , friendly faces and clean facility , however when I signed up in July 2018, they had said the bigger facility was to be open by the 1st of the year. I signed up for there early bird special initial rate that was to carry on into my membership in the new, bigger facility , which has much more to offer. It has now been 1 year since and still they haven't opened. I called in late March to inquire about opening and they said early May, now it is close to May and I called again and was told now not till late July. I would have cancelled my membership months ago, but they have not considered even bringing awareness to current members.. I hope this changes for the better in the coming months as it has been a big disappointment as of late... I GAVE 4 STARS because it is a great place, good staff, clean, nice olympic weights station, a much needed contribution in the community. As the Mckinleyville community is growing we need more places like this.
