as a girl in the martial arts scene, it’s extremely hard to find places that feel like i can grow, enjoy myself AND feel safe. with combat sports it’s easy to get scared off, feel discouraged and not come back. i’ve left many gyms and open mats feeling like it’s hard to find my place, but here i always come out feeling better than when i came in <3

Coach James has a really amazing thing going on at this gym. He has cultivated a great culture, everyone is very kind and supportive. His coaching style is very well-balanced and I look forward to continuing to train here.

Been coming here for a few weeks now, great atmosphere. The instructor is very knowledgeable in the fundamentals and execution of Muay Thai, and he is keen on making sure everyone learns at a reasonable pace. The other students are all friendly and welcoming, and if the instructor is tied up, a vet is always happy to help out. I really enjoy this place, don’t see myself canceling my membership anytime soon.

Coach James trains you like a fighter, not a tourist — and that’s exactly why you get better here. The vibe is equal parts family and fight camp. You’ll laugh, sweat, and probably question your life choices, but leave feeling like a better version of yourself.

Been going here for 3 months and it’s been amazing. The owner/coach (James) is an absolute Legand and makes sure to help out everyone in class. Everyone I’ve met through training has been super cool and nice.

Didn’t get the pass but I went for the practice classes for free. Super nice guy. Super informative and the students help train you too. They don’t pressure you to get it right right away. I couldn’t even throw a punch right and we practiced it the whole class. Still considering going

This really is one of the best places to go for Muay Thai in LB. Coach James really works hard to give everyone attention. He especially takes the time with newcomers helping them along, more than any other gym I've gone to. There is a wide range of skill levels there from absolute beginners to fighters preparing for their next bout. Coach James is also a incredible wealth of knowledge when it comes to the sport, eagle eyed/observent on everyone who enters the gym, and incredibly passionate about the art of Muay Thai.

I travel quite a bit for work and staying consistent with Muay Thai training has been a challenge. I was in Long Beach for a little over two weeks and found The Den Muay Thai on google. I reached out to them on Instagram and got in touch with the owner and head coach James. I was able to get in and train multiple times during my visit and had a fantastic experience. James is one heck of a professional! He’s very good at his craft. He’s technical and gives great instruction. All the students at the gym are friendly and were very welcoming to me (an outsider). After just a few minutes I felt like I was part of the team. I highly recommend The Den Muay Thai for anyone interested in training with great people and a world class coach. I definitely will be dropping in anytime I’m in town visiting in the future.

Best place you can go to learn Muay Thai. Regardless of your skill level, you will find the right amount of support not only from Coach and owner James, but the environment is truly welcoming. I've spared against many people with varying levels, from those who've been to the top and fought in the UFC to those who are experiencing their first day and the environment really lends itself to fostering a community unlike any other gym. Recomended

The best training and environment you could ever ask for at ANY level! The skill set, experience and knowledge of coach James Montella is world class. Fighters of every level come into to The Den all year round because of the environment and what they get out of it! I strongly encourage anyone looking to join, to do so! Beginner, intermediate or pro level, I’ve seen everyone learn and get better from coach Montella’s tutelage. He’s skilled, patient, smart, tough as nails and demands your absolute best. Leveraging his knowledge and experience has been one of the best and most rewarding assets for me. I’ve gained so much in my tenure at The Den and my confidence has grown SIGNIFICANTLY in my skill set since joining. After researching for months, NO other place offers the return on investment that The Den offers!! WELL, WELL, WELL worth it!! - Lock

When you come to train here, you are automatically welcomed with good grace. James (owner) treats you like your part of the team. He will bring out the best in you, capitalizing on your strengths guiding you through whatever goal you have for your self. This attitude reflects on everyone training at the gym. The entire team is awesome. Going through other gyms with bad experiences I'm proud to say Iv found the place for me.

I've trained my whole life, all around the world, fought in multiple different organizations including the ufc. Just moved to Long Beach and was looking for a new home gym to train Muay Thai. I met coach and owner James thru a friend and I'm very grateful. He is a great coach and a great person. I love the environment in the gym. Everybody is very hospitable and you learn, get good work and have a great time. Highly recommended 🙏🏼

Great focus on technique, combined with highly effective conditioning and cardio. Super spacious gym and one of the most competitive prices in the area. Classes every day from 5-8 and a gym room with weights as well. I have been practicing Muay Thai for several years, and this gym is welcoming to all levels -- you will be challenged regardless of whether you're a beginner or advanced.

Joining The Den Muay Thai has been a game-changer for me. Right off the bat, the straightforward membership - one fee for unlimited access to all classes - made getting into Muay Thai both accessible and stress-free. It's refreshing to not have to juggle multiple fees or navigate complex payment plans.
What stands out most is the environment. The Den fosters a supportive atmosphere that's welcoming to everyone, regardless of skill level. As a beginner myself, I was initially apprehensive about starting Muay Thai. However, the trainers and fellow gym-goers made me feel at home from day one. Their encouragement and guidance have been pivotal in my journey.
Introducing a strength and conditioning class into their offerings highlights The Den's dedication to comprehensive fitness, a crucial component of my personal journey. These sessions have been key in refining my Muay Thai skills and furthering my weight loss ambitions.
In just a month's worth of training, the improvement in my technique is noticeable. James excels at breaking down complex movements into manageable steps, making it easier for beginners to grasp and master. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that everyone makes steady but great progress.
The Den Muay Thai isn't just a gym; it's a community where you're pushed to be your best, in a supportive and positive environment. For anyone looking to dive into Muay Thai, regardless of your starting point, I couldn't recommend The Den enough.

Had my first lesson yesterday and I it was awesome. I am a novice and don't have any background in Muay Thai. The trainer James was thorough, easy to follow, and patient. I can tell he has a passion and respect for this sport. It showed through his consistent attention to detail. He persistently pointing out the little things I need to change. I liked the instant feedback he gave. I'll definitely be back and am excited to learn as much as I can.

This place is awesome. From my first session I was already fixing things that I was taught elsewhere in commercial gyms like UFC Gym and Kings MMA. I learned more in one hour at The Den then I did at those places. Coach James has been patient with me and my progress and he continues to push me. Great Muay Thai gym. Great team, great coaching. Good for everyone. Beginner or not. If anyone is looking for a place to join this would be it. Good atmosphere all around.

I’ve been going to this gym since it opened. A ton of different skill levels so no matter the skill you can always find someone to work with. I have been training for a long time and I continue to learn new techniques from James the lead instructor. Everyone is welcome. There’s more parking behind the gym.

The Den Muay Thai is the best place to train Muay Thai in Long Beach bar none. There is no one else who maintains the integrity of the Thai form and is attuned to the Muay Thai tactics in fighting like James. I love training here and wouldn't go anywhere else to learn Muay Thai. You can always learn something just watching the other students, fighters, and instructors in the gym. Everyone is friendly and willing to help each other improve. Come and check it out. You won't regret it. Again, it's the best Muay Thai gym in Long Beach.
