I definitely found my home gym! Every piece of equipment you can think of, awesome staff, great community and solid amenities. Thanks TG!

Husband was in this area on military orders. Sent all of the information to include orders leaving this area to who the front desk told us to. 2 months later, here we are, this gym is still charging our card. Went to the bank and were disputing the charges and filing stop payments with this thief of a location. I have also submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as of this morning. This ‘business’ may not be aware but you can’t charge cancellation fees or no grant military orders unless you want legal action to come…. Be weary when getting a membership here as they’re not professional as other gyms.

This is hands down the cleanest gym in San Diego. And whoever runs the aux cord in this place has great taste in music. Good value for the money.

I was given incorrect information when I upgraded my membership. I was never told that downgrading was not allowed, and I was told the contract was on a continuance basis, which turned out to be wrong. When I pointed out these mistakes and asked to be downgraded, the co-owner refused to fix it and banned me from the gym the next day. I did not violate the contract at all. Their own agreement only talks about cancellations and says nothing about upgrades or downgrades. I was removed simply for asking them to correct their own non disclosures. The gym itself is good, but the way this situation was handled was extremely unprofessional and arrogant . See note from Rick, “you are no longer welcome at TG”.

Btw, their “sauna” is a three sitter box. It’s not an actual room.

Show around the equipment correctly and although people should understand the contract before signing up, please give people a heads up that it is a year contract. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This place is by the far the best gym I’ve ever been to. Awesome machines, very clean, great atmosphere. The staff is amazing. All around great individuals that care about the place and its customers. Probably shorting myself in the foot by saying how great it is because more people will come but it’s ok

The people writing one star reviews misunderstand that there are different gyms for different people. Is money tight? Do you want to get started in the gym for the first time without feeling overwhelmed? Try Planet Fitness. Do you want an always accessible and versatile gym? Try 24 Hour Fitness. Want a high variety of classes and activities in addition to your training? Try the YMCA. I’ve been to them all over my time working out, and they all are sufficient for reaching your goals. The Gym El Cajon is clean, full of motivated people, great machines and has a tone of getting stuff done. If you want that, come here. If fitness influencers bother you, maybe it isn’t the gym for you, and that’s okay. Go to a gym that works for you. For me, this gym is that place.

Literally like any other gym…I signed up and pay monthly and it is not worth it. The whole reason I tried this gym is for the room with led lights they used to have available with the regular membership and now its only available if you do the wellness membership. Extremely disappointed, very crowded as well definitely recommend chuze fitness or 24 hour fitness instead.

I love this gym super convient im never waiting for a machine to be free. I would say the only thing thats need to be worked on is the access code for the wellness memeber we pay to have access but the code is still given to anyone asking for it

I only write reviews when something is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. I’m very happy to say TG El Cajon gets 5 stars. I worked as a personal trainer in San Diego for almost a decade, I’ve trained clients in a dozen locations and personally have tried nearly every gym in San Diego as a hobbyist lifter. TG has exceeded my expectations. The brand has a reputation for attracting more serious lifters, and this location does have that feel, however I see many newer lifters, old, young, competitive, and recreational. The staff is very friendly, always smiling and saying hello/goodbye. They walk around and rerack plates when needed. The members are respectful, I see almost everyone wiping down their equipment. It gets busy, but there are multiples for each piece of equipment so you don’t have to wait long. Their janitorial staff is amazing, the place is always spotless and it’s nice to see them working and doing a good job. I also see lots of people talking and seeing friends, which is great to have in a gym environment. For less than $30 a month I couldn’t think of a better deal in San Diego. Plus parking is never an issue. Some people may look at the photos or go in for a day and be intimidated by what they see, however I promise the people who take the gym seriously are also the ones that are the most respectful and welcoming - I can tell there are a lot of those types here.

It's an ok gym, good equipment, although some of them have not been working nor fixed for several months, such as the seated leg curl, the seat for triceps skull crushers machine kept sliding down whenever you sat on it. These are some examples and these issues were present since I've gotten the membership.
Another issue which left me a bittersweet taste. On their website the blue room which also contains the posing room is checked at the 30$ basic membership, but when you go to their front desk and see their memberships, it is unchecked and it's only available to the premium members, that's a whopping 80 $ for an extra room and some other amenities which I don't care about. But the fact that it's so confusing as to why it was open to everyone up until 15th of August when I noticed you need a passcode to get in and how their 30$ membership from their website differed from the one one at their front desk made me think they are rather unprofessional. The one in Chula Vista has those in the basic membership, whilst here to get access to a small blue room with a posing room, which was open to everyone regardless of their membership, you gotta pay now 80$ for that. The 80% from 30$ does not justify what their amenities offer. I would've gladly pay 40-50$ to get access just to that room, without the extra stuff, but from 30$ to 80$ is preposterous and a total scam.
My last complaint is that it's extremely hot. I start sweating balls just by doing my first excercise, their ventilation system is very poor, they need to address that first and foremost, it's unbearable and for a gym when u work your ass out, you need as much cooling as possible, otherwise you just gas yourself out just by overheating.
I'd recommend this gym only if you like the machines they have, but the fact that it's hot, the dark/blue room with the posing is not accessible anymore at 30$ and instead is now at 80$, and some of their machines were out of order for several months and still not fixed makes them look unprofessional and quick to grab your money and not care what their customers' opinion is.

They Best gym in San Diego, you can’t find anything like this anywhere in San Diego, the fact that some people are giving this place 1 star review is stupid, if someone doesn’t want to be in camera then stay home don’t even come to the gym,
I love this place if i could give it 10 star i would,
Thanks management for making this happen.

The gym has good equipment and a clean setup, but there are a few major issues. There are way too many cameras, and it’s uncomfortable not knowing if you’ll end up on someone’s Instagram. The front desk staff don’t enforce rules people are shirtless, dropping and smacking weights loudly, and overall there’s a lack of organization and respect for shared space. It has potential, but the environment feels chaotic.

This place started out really well but is now going downhill. Privacy and the significance of sports are diminishing; it feels like cinema, live broadcasting are everywhere. You never know when you might appear on social media.

Additionally, some individuals remove their T-shirts without any accountability. They also throw weights forcefully and shout, yet the management does not address their behavior.

Update: The owner said steps were being taken to address this issue (see comment below), however this is still an ongoing issue.

It would be a great gym, but for one policy that ruins it. They encourage you to sign up for their more expensive “wellness package,” which gives you access to their “wellness room.” This is supposed to provide a different vibe then than the main room. However, what they don’t tell you, is that anyone at any time can come into the room, connect Bluetooth, and start blasting music as loud as they want. I’ve been mid workout a couple or times, listening to a podcast, when someone has come in and blasted music so loud I could no longer hear through my noise canceling headphones. It completely ruined my workouts, and when I told management, they did nothing about it. It doesn’t make sense that they would allow one person to dictate what everyone else is listening to. This is a terrible policy and is ruining my experience at the gym.

Me and my wife have a full schedule and we live up in el cajon area. We asked 2 of the staffs if we can bring our baby girl in at the time she was a new born and would not cry rather just sleep in her stroller they said yes. And for approximately 1- 1.5 months we brought her and keanu unfortunately told another staff to tell us we weren’t able to bring her in when we were right in front of him. We would bring our baby at 4-5 in the morning. In which we understood its a business. However, month before and months after and currently we would see kids anywhere from the age of 2-13 years at the gym which made no sense The Gym El cajon and Chula vista would repost there kids. Very disappointing after having a membership since they build it from the ground up when they had no machinery. IT DOES SAY ( NO KIDS ALLOWED) HOW EVER WE HAD AN OK FROM STAFF.

Unfortunately WE WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT INFANTS NOR WERE WE IN THE TRAINING FLOOR WORKING OUT WE WOULD JUST DO CARDIO. AND IF THIS WAS A STATE MANDATE WHY WEREN'T EVERY KID From 5 AND OVER NOT KICKED OUT LIKE US WE HAVE PHOTO OF EVERY KID THAT ATTENDED. IF YOU WERE NOT WELL INFORMED ABOUT THIS ISSUE PLEASE INVESTIGATE CORRECTLY NOT JUST FROM YOUR STAFF SIDE. very biased comment there.
My wife will add photos of all the kids working out thank you. and we will blur faces

I’ve been working out at this gym for a while and overall, I really enjoy it. The equipment is great, the layout is solid, and it’s usually a fun place to train. However, things have taken a turn lately, especially with the start of summer.

The gym has become extremely hot and stuffy—you can feel it the moment you walk in. It’s like there’s no proper airflow or AC running. My friends and I noticed it over a month ago and brought it up to the staff. At first, we were told they were working on it, but nothing has changed. In fact, it’s only getting worse, and we’re still only in June.

When I asked again recently, one of the staff members told me that the AC is on and “this is just how it’s going to be,” which came across as dismissive—as if members should just deal with it. It’s disappointing because I know I’m not the only one feeling this way. There’s only one large fan on one side of the gym, which isn’t nearly enough for the entire space.

I hope management seriously addresses this issue soon. Otherwise, it’s a solid gym—but comfort and air circulation are just as important as the equipment.

“The Gym,” located in El Cajon is arguably the best, if not one of the best gym facilities in the entire San Diego county! The greeting of the day is always given along with bright smiles and words of encouragement! The staff is always attentive and prepared to offer a solution to whatever issue may arise. The equipment itself is state of the art and is well maintained around the clock, with their 24/7 cleaning staff. The machines are all high quality brands and they even go as far as offering a full Recovery area which includes a sauna, a hydro massage bed and the almighty Hot/Cold therapy chamber. In addition, they also offer a private gym within the gym itself for those who want to “shut out the noise” which is something i’ve yet to see anywhere else! Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, they hit you with the monthly charge of $29.95. Stop wondering if and figure out when your stopping by to get started! See you there!

This gym has been one of the worst experiences I’ve had. I waited 35 minutes to use a single piece of equipment, and when I politely asked to work in a set, the woman filming accused me of harassing her. I wasn’t trying to cause a problem—I was just trying to finish my workout after waiting nearly an hour.

To make matters worse, I ended up tripping over her tripod. For those who understand military life, getting injured outside of duty can have serious consequences.

All of this just so someone can film content in a gym? I used to live in Phoenix and went to a The gym out there that had Bible verses on the walls and a strict no-filming policy, which created a respectful and focused environment. I was expecting something similar here, but this has been a very different experience.

Thank you, El Cajon gym, for allowing a filming setup to interfere with my training and possibly compromise my ability to serve my country to my full potential

Been a fan of TG Chula..... I came here to see what it's like and I love it. It's big, not as full and has what you need. For a peaceful, quiet workout, I'll come to TG El Cajon. I recently visited THE GYM in Parkway Plaza, the same location where Crunch Fitness used to be, and I was thoroughly impressed. I had the pleasure of meeting Rick and Keanu, the owners, who gave me a tour of the facilities. Their passion for fitness and commitment to creating a top-notch gym was evident in every detail.

They've clearly invested heavily in high-quality equipment, a spacious and well-organized layout, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, you'll find everything you need to reach your goals.
