Course was in horrible shape. Really disappointing. 2 stars because greens were nice but the fairways were a joke.

Marshall/Pro and pro shop employee are so rude, they ruined a great day of golf with friends. The pro wants you to take lessons but he is so unfriendly and condescending why would anyone want to take lessons from him? Does he not know that he would get more business if he was just friendly? The course is great but due to these two employees I don’t want to give them any more of my money. This seems to be an experience that many others I’ve talked to have had with these employees. Not sure why they want to chase off paying customers. Play at your own risk. Hope they won’t harass you like they do so many.

I made a stop here, to play this interesting looking GC, because I really like links courses. Because of bad experiences, I walked to the first tee to see how the conditions of the tee box and fairway are and on my way I came by the 17 or 18th hole and there was a traffic jam with four flights on this hole. If I spend a bit more money, I cannot accept slow play and crooked tee boxes with tall grass. The tee box looked okay but not prestine. I play just 3W and long grass makes it impossible to swipe the ball from the tee. In the end it didn't matter because I was not allowed to walk the course. I replied that I will be faster than most golfers riding a cart and walked out. So, maybe a one star review is not fair. Keep this in mind. One star because this was the first GC of many golf courses on my long journey playing Golf from Seattle to San Francisco who did not allow to walk the course. Golf is a sport and I like to walk and play fast. I am 60 and I will walk a course till I die. Usually playing alone 3h for 18.

There is a golf course in Corning, California that stands not as a pastoral retreat but as a shimmering hallucination in the dried-out gut of the Sacramento Valley. It is called The Links at Rolling Hills, and it was designed, against all odds and sane advice, by the eternal outlaw of American golf: John Daly.

Yes, that John Daly. The man of mullets, Marlboros, and mid-round Diet Cokes. A living contradiction—half-savant, half-shambling Greek tragedy—who somehow poured his chaotic gospel into 18 holes of scorched earth and impossible ambition. This course is not merely shaped by Daly's vision. It is haunted by it.

From the first tee, you feel it. The fairway dares you. The bunkers leer like open mouths. The wind is not a natural occurrence here—it is a spiritual trial, summoned by the wrath of some ancient force displeased with the irrigation system. Daly did not design this place for balance or serenity. He designed it the way a man builds a fortress during a nervous breakdown: big, bold, fearless, and full of doom.

The layout has the markings of a man who once drove a ball 400 yards through a headwind and then lost to his own appetite. There are elevated tees that make you believe you can fly, followed by greens that punish every delusion. On the back nine, the land folds in on itself. The fairways twist like the corridors of a dream. The par-3s are short but violent. The par-5s are invitations to hubris.

And yet—there is genius here. A raw, unfiltered genius. Daly has built not a course, but a psychological crucible. His design lures you in with promises of birdies, then strips away your swing, your focus, your very sense of identity. Somewhere around hole twelve, I found myself weeping into a clubhead, not from sorrow, but from the weight of realization: I was not playing against the course. I was playing against myself.

The greens are fast. Almost too fast. Like wet glass in a fever dream. The rough is not thick but strategic—it exists precisely where your ball will land when hope turns to recklessness. I could feel Daly’s laughter in the wind, faint and deranged.

After the round, I wandered into the casino, past blinking slot machines and the hollowed faces of men who had lost everything but their golf gloves. I sat at the bar, ordered something brown and unspecific, and stared into the neon void.

The Links at Rolling Hills is not a golf course. It is a mirror. It shows you who you are beneath the khakis and polos, beneath the swing tips and yardage books. It strips you bare and says: this is the truth of your game, and perhaps, of your life.

John Daly did not design this course to be fair.
He designed it to be honest.
And that is far, far more dangerous.

Five stars, for a terrifying, brilliant, and unforgettable golf experience. Bring sunscreen, and possibly a therapist.

We booked online at $37 a person…only to find out that it was $60+…it’s not about the money…but the discrepancy in pricing. $37 is for 9 holes…that wasn’t mentioned online…

We played a round on 8/27/23 and was not impressed with the course. Several of the tee boxes are in terrible shape. The sand traps are full of weeds and a lot of loose grass along the fairways. There are bare spots on a few of the greens. I have played this course several times and have always had a great experience. I don't know what is going on this time and what you are charging to play in these kind of conditions is to much. I live here locally please don't make me want to go somewhere else.

Place is massive! Long course and kept up really well. They have a nice driving range too. Only thing that gives you a little trouble is lots of shots you lose sight since the rolling hills and if it goes into their high grass, which is everywhere, you'll lose a lot of balls cause no way to know where it actually went in. They got drinks and food inside clubhouse and out at the start/turn. Plus the casino and a nice restaurant.

Best course north of Sacramento. Awesome nice green fairways. And exceptional greens. Service is on point. You pull up they bring your cart to you. On these summer days ice chest on Cart has ice and water for you. Also while on course marshal is driving around giving you more water and ice cold towels as well. Full practice facility. Growing up in the north state and playing golf for over 20 yrs as well as playing every course between Corning CA Redding CA. This is hands down the best course the north state has to offer. Playing here 5 time in the last 2 months. This beautiful clean well taken care of course is officially my home course. Great job and hats off to the links at rolling hills casino.

I'm from the Sacramento vally land of 100 courses. There is nothing like the links at rolling hills that you can even compare too like in the vally. If your looking for a challenging but fun course. You gotta make a trip up and play a round, its only $60 bucks for a prime time spot and they don't stack the course with groups every 5 min so your never waiting, alot of blind shots trust the GPS.

Had a good time at the course. They were doing maintenance on the course so we were unable to play the back 9. The fairway and most of the course was quite wet and spongey and the greens were sand covered. But the course is truly beautiful and laid out very nice, the maintenance didn’t really ruin the experience at all the only reason I’m giving this place 3 stars was the incredibly rude man at the 1st/9th hole shack. It was our first time playing there and we loved the service, we pulled up and someone dropped our cart off right at our vehicle, they checked us in (or so we thought) and we to the pro shop. We had a drink and I even bought a logo ball for my collection, then headed to the 1st hole. The incredibly rude man, I believe his name was “Si” asked what we were doing and accused us of stealing a round of golf, really upset my father and ruined the vibe of the entire trip. Then he rudely informed us that we need to go back and check in at the pro shop, as if we knew how this golf course operated… really upset my father for the first half of the game. I would go back…. But I’m staying away from Si, he is a jerk.

Rolling Hills is a hidden gem of a course - easily the best course within a 100-mile radius. It's thoughtfully designed, well-maintained, and the practice facilities are second to none. The staff are good people, even Sy out at the starter station. Part of me wants to selfishly keep this course a secret so that I can keep playing 3-hour rounds, but I they do absolutely deserve to thrive and be recognized for their hard work - it's a beautiful course and a lot of fun/challenging to play.

Great course, wonderful practice facility, very friendly staff. Also, Brad, the golf instructor is an extremely good teacher. I signed up for 4 lessons with him. After the first lesson, my entire perspective changed from a “hitting the ball” focus to a very basic “swinging the club” approach. Dramatic improvement after just the first one hour lesson. Although we worked with a 7 iron, it is helping with all my clubs, I will be getting my grandchildren some lessons from Brad too. He knows how to make the game fun and relaxing and that has not been the normal story of my golf life! Great place!

What a great course! I'm an out of towner, and I have been playing quite a few courses in the Yuba City / Chico area. Even in the winter, this course was great! The fairways were a bit yellow and the grass looks dead, but hitting off it felt like a normal fairway to me. The course is very challenging, and long. And I think the best part of everything is how affordable it is! $50 for 18 holes and it includes a cart. And the play it back rate is only $25! I will definitely be coming back. In the summer, I bet this course would be just as nice as resort courses... Pace of play was slow, 4.5 hours.

A challenging course that is faithful to its name. It is an inland links design with undulating fairways and greens. For the long hitter, there are many risk reward options. The short hitter has safe options.

There are numerous blind shots which make the shot uncomfortable. Local knowledge is helpful.

Green reading is a real challenge. The greens have significant undulation that puts the 3 putt in play on every hole.

The course is well maintained. The staff is helpful and friendly. The green fee is an excellent value.

Great price for the golf and cart , snack shop closes at 2pm so you have to drive all the way back to the pro shop and hike the stairs not really feeling it on a hot day! The fairways and greens are nice, sand bunkers could use a some TLC "Weeds" also noticed weeds around the greens not much but still weeds. All in all it's a nice course. Miss the free drinking water near the restrooms they use to have out for the customers, even though you do get two bottles of water free before each round .
