The best climbing gym. Creative and challenging climbs that are updated regularly. Staffed by kids with great attitudes. They reduced the number of top rope routes, making the gym accessible to most climbers.

Saddle Rack was absolutely stunning. The country music at the venue was so inviting that I got up and danced non stop! The line dance lessons were easy to follow and really enjoyable.
On top of that, Jeremiah was an excellent customer service representative who made our experience even better!
Kudos!

This is a complete sports complex. They have rock climbing, volleyball leagues, virtual golf, bocce ball courts, pool tables, and even a video arcade here. Fun for the whole family.
They also have a full bar and restaurant. I just had their Irish Coffee special and fish tacos. Both were very good. There is ample parking and the staff here are first-rate.
They can do business events here and fundraisers. They have several areas that they can separate for your specific event needs. Definitely a hidden gem in Fremont.

One of the few places that have auto belay. It’s a great facility and a great place to go with kids - hence it’s always busy. There are walls for climbing and bouldering. Well maintained with a welcoming staff. They also have a small gym but it’s almost invisible. There are cubby holes to keep your stuff. It’s colocated with some volley ball courts and a small pub / restaurant. Plenty of parking.

This review is for bouldering only!
This place is primarily top rope and lead climbing gym. The bouldering area is small and tiny. There's one alcove with a short wall and then one wall that's shared with lead climbing area. That's it!
It also feels like the routes don't get changed often. They look like they've been there for a long time.
If you're looking to do bouldering, I would skip this gym. I wish I knew that earlier. The pics with wide angle of bouldering area makes it look a lot bigger than it is.

We love this place—it’s great for a family day out! Both kids and adults had an awesome time. They have an automatic belay system, so even if you're scared of heights, you can give it a try. For first-timers, the staff explains how everything works, and they're super friendly. You can climb freely and pick routes that work for you. Even if there’s a bit of a wait sometimes, most people are polite and nice. We love bringing friends here, and the kids always have a blast. The energy here is amazing and it’s always so much fun!

Absolutely terrible experience with the staff. I’ve been going to Touchstone Climbing at San Jose Studio for a while now where they use a slightly different Belay which uses friction instead of a locking mechanism. I came here for the first time and the staff I met at the front desk was extremely rude. She made tie the knot multiple times because the slack wasn’t just right for her even though I was taught earlier that if there is a bit more slack you can tie the end to the rope and it should be fine. Afterwards, she specifically spoke in language specific to their gym and told me I should have known what these things mean. And then lastly when I asked about the different belay device I was told to leave the gym and come back again some other time.
I was trying to use my friend’s guest pass and I’m going to seriously request them to not use this gym. At least not until they teach their staff to behave better.

This gym was amazing. The staff was nice, and all of the routes were interesting and easy to read. The other climbers were also really nice and approachable. It was my first time doing any kind of climbing, and it seemed like a positive environment. Perfect place to try out climbing if you have social anxiety! Total barely broke 30 bucks. Really can't recommend this spot enough! Cleanliness, friendliness, kindness all 10/10. Tips for success and having a great experience: feel the fear and do it anyway!

This review is for bouldering during a busy weekday evening.
Pros:
- It’s cheaper than other climbing gyms in the area
- It’s close to me/the east bay (Union city, Fremont, Newark)
- Friendly staff
- Easy parking
Cons:
- A lot of the climbing challenges are poorly marked. They’re marked with colored duct tape and sharpie (not the problem). The problem is - a lot of them are peeling off, peeled off, or have smudged/illegible writing.
- During the week there’s lots of people sitting and standing around too close - standing with their back towards climbers, blocking walkways, and the cubby areas.
- There’s lots of kids. They practically run around unsupervised, sometimes under climbers. This is plain unsafe.

I have been going to The Peak of Fremont occasionally when I am in the area. Overall, I've had a great experience with their staff and the community that climbs here. Everyone is friendly, and the staff, when they aren't busy, will greet you when you enter. The climbing gym is a part of a gym complex that's connected with several other sports. It's immediately on the left when you first enter the front door. This does mean parking can be a bit of a pain, but the parking lot is huge, and Peak of Fremont has their own little section to park at as well. The gym has a few bouldering walls, top rope walls, lead climbing walls, and auto belay. There's also a training area that's equipped with hanging boards, pull-up bars, free weights, barbells, and a kilter board. They have a variety of climbing routes that rotate often enough to keep beginners and more advanced climbers interested. If you're looking to get into climbing, I would say that this is a good location to start with.
Edit: 03/23/24
Went here again, and not much has changed, which is a good thing. Routes are still really fun, and they recently added a bunch of climbs that are not graded yet still very fun. I was checked off for auto belay, and that orientation was a few minutes. Staff is still helpful and kind. Climbers in the area are still nice to chat with. Overall, good time!

Staff loves to gatekeep. No friendly welcome for me, like the staff's friends received, just asked for payment on the way in. I passed belay test and seemed like everything was good to go. Then they said I can't climb because I took my hands off too early.... The test was over, I have climbed at dozens of gyms and passed all of the belay tests, never had any issues with safety. They wouldn't allow me to retake and demonstrate proficiency (again). The atmosphere made me feel that they generally didn't want me there unless I was already buddies with them

"Can't go wrong with the membership here." Was my recommendation before COVID. But now with the new management in place, I couldn't recommend a membership here. I understand the safety rules, but requiring an adult for self-belay for age under 18 is absolutely ridiculous. It means I have to spend my entire time overseeing my kids for something that they could do by themselves. It's like owner here has some strong resentment against kids. A 14-year-old can be by themselves swimming in a pool but can't put up belay on by themselves. I'll come here once in a while but no way I'm paying for a membership.

Rude staff, especially this one Asian guy there. Was visiting the area for a day and stopped here. They wouldn't sell me a day pass, only a monthly. There was no mention of this on their website. Since I had already driven this far I gave in and bought it. After I climbed for about 1.5 hours they kicked me out since the next time slot reservations were up. I wasn't allowed to stay. So i paid for a monthly pass to get less than 2 hours out of it.
I understand that they had to keep a limit on people in the gym during covid, but after getting a monthly pass to climb just for a day there, i was not told and did not expect to be kicked out so soon. I would have honestly been fine paying a monthly for a day, but getting kicked out and treated this way was not ok.
Edit 1 year later: Since I was in the area again I reached out via the contact form on their website but have yet to hear back.

Bad experience for first time. I personally definitely won’t go there again.
1. When the staff had the cleaning spray into my eye by accident, my eye was burning but he didn’t seem really care about it.
2. The space was very crowded. Some climbing lanes had long queues and not well managed in order (and there is no staff there).
3. There is anti-slippery powder floating in the air everywhere. Luckily I was wearing a mask but still not good to see such air pollution in the room.

As someone who only really rock climbs, this place is not it. For a majority of the walls you have very limited space between the walls and where people can stand. You might be trying to knock out that V2, but notice there is only 2-3 feet of space for you to fall between the wall and the wall of people waiting to get on the wall.
I came here during peak hours which is around 8 PM at night. With the amount of people hovering around the walls it just felt unsafe to boulder properly. There are definitely parts of the walls where there are less people, but it's just not enough.
I come from climbing at Planet Granite (now Movement) which can and does get very packed, but not like this. There's a lot more bouldering options even at PG's smallest location in Belmont than at The Peak of Fremont. Sure, the price point at PoF is nice, but for one location, lack of any place to safely secure your things, and the amount of people packed into this small space... It's not worth the money for me. I'd rather pay the extra 40-50 a month to have more space to fall or just to be spread out even a little bit.
If PoF took over the Volleyball section next door it would be 100% worth the price with the additional spread out space, but for now it's not.

Pros:
1. Auto belay
2. Do not have to drop in for belay certification
3. The Lemur - light bouldering wall is fun
Cons:
1. If you fail the belay certification you cannot give the test again that day and are restricted to auto-belay climbs only ~ 8 climbs
2. Overall height of climbs is less
3. Cushioning is not good under the rope climbing
4. Bouldering area is small

I haven't tried out other rock climbing gyms around this area, but I've had a membership here for a few months now and have really enjoyed the location so far. Their establishment is moderately spacious, staff is friendly, and gym is clean.
From what I enjoy, they reset their routes every month and allow you to bring in 2 unique guests every month. Different from other gyms, this is one of the cheapest gyms around. In the back, they keep a small gym that is nice to use from time to time.
On the weekdays, they tend to be most packed around 6pm to 8pm.

This place is inside a bigger complex with other venues, and at first it might be confusing. The personnel is extremely kind and attentive. You can go in and climb auto belays, that is a small section of climbing that requires almost no training and knowledge to start climbing. However as most beginners start there, it gets crowded real quick and one can spend here about 20-30 minutes top. After that, you can get certified to perform top rope belay using a device called gri-gri. I'm not a huge fan of it but it works. The certification "exam" is really useful for people to stay safe. There is another section with lead climbing and bouldering that I have not visited as it is mostly for members. The associates were all very kind and helpful.

What is it about the Peak that brings out the best of the climbing community?
I learned to climb in the major gyms in the bay: Mission Cliffs, Dogpatch, PG, etc., but I can say without hesitation that The Peak is my favorite gym in the Bay Area.
I first came here when it was still City Beach, a team building/climbing space that also had aerial arts. They’ve since rebranded and expanded, but have kept that local, personal feel.
The Peak has some of the best people I’ve met in the climbing community. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and brings a personal touch. When I was new here and needed a lead partner, they asked around the gym at different times and put me in touch with new friends. The people who climb here are friendly, open, and supportive of other climbers without exception. There’s no ego, no judgment, just nice people who are genuinely excited to see each other do well. Even the team kids here are some of the sweetest, most polite crushers around.
The setting is really good, especially for a gym of this size, and it’s usually never too crowded that I’ve had to wait much to climb. Good bouldering and top rope, but it’s the lead area that really shines here, though there aren’t may lead climbers at the gym.
If I had to offer some criticism, I’d say that the space is sometimes a bit warm/humid for my preference. It also couldn’t hurt to get an intercom system to look for climbing partners.
Other than that, hope this place never changes!

This is the first time we have been there. We tried it yesterday and immediately we took monthly membership. Once if you take membership there is no time limit, how much ever time you want you can do. No need to wait, There are a lot of walls to climb. The staff is very friendly and explains very clearly what we have to do. Mostly all age groups can try this. It's fun. Kids really enjoy this place.

I didn't climb this time but was here for a family birthday. Lots of walls to climb for beginners. It was really easy for my kids to check in and after a quick tutorial they were off climbing.

The price is reasonable. It has auto-belay system. The routes are in good amount, but the rating is a little different from planet granite. The route rate starts from 5.8, while planet granite starts from 5.6

Awesome spot with mainly top rope climbs that require you to be lay certified. There are auto belayers but only a few of them.

Excellent climbing gym with a great atmosphere! Has a wide range of difficulties for boulders and routes. Small fitness area with dumbbells, plates and an assortment of other equipment. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
