The Strength Shoppe specializes in high-intensity, slow-cadence strength training, which is a safer, more effective, more efficient form of exercise. The total body workout (with a certified instructor) lasts only 20 minutes once a week. Through compound movements on specialized equipment, the maximum benefits desired from exercise are achieved in minimal time. Lifting weights slowly reduces the force on your joints and connective tissues and ensures you are always in control of the weight, eliminating your risk for injury. Only muscle, not momentum, is used to lift the weight, deeply working the muscles. Exercise to the intensity of muscle failure thoroughly exhausts your muscles, which is why your body requires a longer rest period.

The Strength Shoppe’s Echo Park location is a hidden gem. It’s part of a building complex called the Echo Park Village that has a variety of other small businesses & an on-site parking lot. I had the opportunity to do a training session with Denice, one of their coaches and was blown away by the effectiveness of this style of strength workout. As someone who hadn’t had any prior experience in a real gym, I really appreciated Denice’s patient approach to coaching. She had a super calming presence during the session too. Melinda, the gym’s owner is leading the way within the LA community with this pretty cutting edge high intensity training workout.

I have been a regular client at Strength Shoppe Echo Park for 2 years. I’m in my late 60’s, with bad knees and when I started, I had just had a couple of bad falls.I was pretty discouraged about being able to continue to be active without injury. With regular workouts at Strength Shoppe that were targeted to my needs, I can now trip and regain my balance without falling! I would strongly recommend Strength Shoppe.

This is the perfect way to build strength over time. I’ve been training here once a week for about 6 months and I can definitely feel myself getting stronger.
The instructors do a great job at pushing you to muscle failure and tracking your progress so you can really see results. Technique is important with strength training and they will help to make sure that you’re doing the exercises correctly so you build muscle more efficiently.
All in just 20-30 minutes!

Wow! Who would have thought 20-30 minutes would give me the results I wanted AND needed?!! I've worked with two of their trainers, and they were fabulous. This gym is unlike any other. For my workout, I was the only one there--that's how they do it. It makes it such a personally tailored experience. They have a secret sauce that has changed every strength-training workout since. Oh, and by the way, I'm over 65 years old, and this is the best shape I've in been in, well, let's say, decades. Don't hesitate, go!!! (you can find this review in Yelp, as well)

I started working with Zorayda at the Strength Shoppe I think in April or so if 2023 at one workout a week. By summer I was up to 2 days a week. Aside from making my workout fun (working out with Z is like chit chatting with your bestie between reps), my doctor does Inbody scans on me regularly to monitor my body composition, and from my July scan to December I gained 2 lbs of muscle. To boot? I live in Seattle and do this completely remote! Zorayda makes the occasional recommendation on equipment to purchase but for the most part we use what I already have or just body weight and clearly it's working. I love the strength shoppe! I recommend to ask my friends 😃

From the moment I met Melinda (the wonderful owner) at the Strength Shoppe in March 2022, I knew she was something special. She lives and breathes her work and is so devoted to helping her clients. I recommend the Strength Shoppe Echo Park. I have been going for ten weeks. The exercises are hard but include one on one coaching with constant encouragement and to make sure the exercises are done correctly. Plus it is only 20 minutes a week! I M 77 years old and am hoping for increased bone mass and strength from the exercises.

The Strength Shop’s 20 minute, once a week sessions are really working for me. The workout stimulates building new muscle and bone through momentary muscle failure. This high-intensity strength training at a slow pace has helped with my posture and building strength. It’s also created a great foundation for the other activities I enjoy (tennis, yoga, and walking). The one-on-one sessions are led by expert instructors who safely guide you through your personally designed program. If you are looking to shed fat while building strength and muscle you have found the right place! This workout is everything I needed in my life right now. My schedule is so busy it was hard trying to fit in a 1.5 hour workout 3-4 days a week. The Strength Shoppe has gotten us on the road to healthy living after we picked up some bad food and health habits during the pandemic. I would prefer NOT to exercise if given a choice, and I also need a workout that is gentle and safe. This gym is the perfect solution for exercise. The personal trainers at this gym are exceptional. I know my trainer is there to keep me safe but also push me hard so I get the most out of my workout. I have worked out with Neil, Jazzy, and Melinda. The food sensitivity testing and nutrition coaching really helped me control the inflammation in my body. In this regard, The Strength Shoppe is not just a gym or just personal training or just nutrition coaching, it's a one-stop "shoppe" to take care of your body the right way-- from the inside, out. The approach is about health first and foremost, but after working out at this gym for years now, I can also say, I not only love the way I feel, I love the way I look, too. It's not the typical gym experience, but it's perfect if you're looking for a personal trainer. They have a location in Pasadena as well as Echo Park so that is convenient when I'm closer to Pasadena. I highly recommend trying a workout at this gym...once you try it, you won't want to do anything else!

I’ve been strength training with Melinda at The Strength Shoppe in Echo Park for the past few years and all I can say is that she is a joyful and passionate teacher who makes working out a pleasure. I’ve never been a “gym” gal and my work schedule is pretty nuts- when I showed up for my first session, I was intimidated by the machine, but within minutes, Melinda’s expertise and thorough explanations of how the work out would benefit me and why and how each machine would make a difference, settled me and got me so excited to begin. Knowing that I can show up once a week, have a satisfying, effective full body strength training workout and feel great afterwards is perfect for me and all of the trainers I’ve worked with at the Strength Shoppe are kind and incredibly knowledgable about this slow-motion workout, and the special physical therapy machines they use called MedX.

I LOVED my time at the Strength Shoppe (and since I've moved out of state, I can only hope I find another place of similar quality).
I was brand new to strength training when I started my workouts here, and had a lot of questions about whether it was right for me. Melinda totally put me at ease with both her knowledge and her very caring, personalized attention to my body's specific needs - I could immediately sense that I was in good hands, and that this was a very different experience from most workouts.
After Melinda set up a plan for me, I worked with Andi who was awesome... fun and inspiring, and always attuned to what I needed, when adjustments were necessary.
Our bodies have different needs at different times, and having the personalized guidance from experts who you trust is so important.
It was hard to believe that just a once-a-week workout could make such a difference... but I very quickly noticed I was stronger (could lift water jugs without straining), my body was leaner, and I had more energy.
This is an amazing, effective, and fun workout, and perfect for the busy person who wants to make the most of your time AND prioritize your self care. Highly recommended!

This place is great. I've worked out consistently since college (mostly weight lifting) and was a little skeptical that 20 minutes a week would do anything. The first workout proved me wrong. Not only has my strength noticeably increased but the program is so time efficient I can comfortably fit it in to even the busiest weeks. At 40, it's nice to have a staple in my workout regimen that is low impact on joints but still gives me noticeable gains. Anyone with a busy schedule looking to get results need to check this place out. As for trainers, I can honestly say there's not a weak link anywhere in their roster. These people know what they're talking about.
