The Yard is the best! physically, mentally, and with my confidence in the gym. The community here is real, the people are welcoming, and the energy is always on point.
The staff is supportive, the atmosphere is motivating, and the owner clearly cares about creating a space that feels unique and positive. Every class and training session pushes you to be better without ever feeling intimidating.
This gym is honestly one of the most unique spots in all of San Francisco. If you’re looking for great people, great vibes, and a place that truly helps you level up, The Yard is the one.

I’m writing this review early into my 6-week Barbell Basics package—just two 6:30 AM classes in so far—but I already feel like I’ve found something meaningful.
The classes are well-structured and strike a great balance: there’s a clear group focus with supportive energy, but also room for individual attention and pacing. It’s challenging, but not intimidating—enough to push you without making you want to flee. After each session, I feel physically good, and I’ve noticed the days I attend class tend to be better days at work. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
I’ve already met a few people I really like and hope to connect with more over the coming weeks. The 6-week package itself is a smart model—I much prefer it over a “free trial week.” In my opinion, paying helps you show up with purpose and commitment.
And yes, I’ve already had that post-workout cooldown high where I think: Maybe I could train for a weightlifting competition someday? A delightful delusion, but honestly—it’s fun to daydream when your body feels strong.
I’m not yet sure if I’ll be able to continue after the 6 weeks—it’s definitely a premium gym, and with that comes a bit of a financial stretch for someone like me, who’s here thanks to a fitness stipend from my employer. I may have to return to my free apartment workouts once the 6 weeks wrap up. (Perhaps I should start a GoFundMe—haha!) But I LOVE having access to the full range of equipment at The Yard, and the space itself is motivating in a way that’s impossible for me to replicate at home.
In short: If you’re considering trying The Yard, the 6-week package has been a great way (imho) to test the waters with intention. I’ve had a great start, and I’m glad I signed up. Looking forward to more great workouts!

The best gym idea of all times, I wish this concept was more common. I love having a squat rack to myself!

Having recently joined The Yard after being with a nearby commercial gym (that isn't even open 24 hours), I am very happy with my experience here. I could probably give you 24 reasons to sign up at The Yard though - but I'm going to cap it at half that number.
1.All I have to do is reserve my pod - usually for the next day - and I am guaranteed clean equipment that works. 2.I don't have to walk around the gym to find a plate or a barbell. 3. I can walk away from the bench and no one is going to take it while I'm looking for a weight plate. 4. Everything is in its place. 5. There are towels. 6. Bathrooms are clean. 7. Occasionally, I need someone to spot, and they are happy to do that for me. 7. Coaches offer pointers even when they are not "your" coach. 8. It's got all the equipment you could hope for. 9. Staff is responsive and friendly. 10. When a coach noticed I was videoing for my coach, he offered me his tripod, and showed me where to find it. 11. When they knew I was interested in powerlifting, they added me to their text list - and what a great group. 12. I'm going with a group from the gym to a meet!!
Great place!

REVIEW UPDATED 4/19/2025: Thank you for refunding the account. I have changed the rating from 1 star to 3 stars in light of the refund.
Original Review Below:
I used the Yard through Gympass / ClassPass for about 5 pod sessions 2 months ago. Yesterday, they charged me $265 on the credit card on file even though I NEVER signed up for a monthly membership.
Be careful, this business will try to steal your money long after you stop going. Do not give them your credit card information.

One of my favorite places to workout in the city! With the over congestion at a lot of the major gyms in the city, it's such a relief to know you have a clean, reserved spot to workout. It's such a cool community of members too! If youre over fighting for racks and spaces to workout, this is the SPOT!!

Going to a gym away from home is a bit intimidating for me, but The Yard was amazing! They were friendly and welcoming. Having my own dedicated space was perfect. The gym is clean, organized, and well equipped. I'll be back each time I visit SF.

Love this space! Friendly people, and it was great to have my own corner to work out in. This is an especially great space for women if you feel like you have to fight to get what you need for your workout at a regular gym.

I highly recommend The Yard! I’ve never been to a gym with this type of pod reservation before and it’s great. You never have to wait for equipment and you’re guaranteed your own space when you go. They have plenty of weights, a small turf downstairs, and a nice outdoor area you can utilize when it’s nice out.

I am an independent personal trainer and I run my business mainly through this gym. The staff is great and has very fair prices for rentals. I love their concept of having individual pods for each trainer/trainee because I never have to worry about not getting dumbbells or a squat rack. I highly recommend this gym!

The Yard is by far the best place to work out in SF. For those who don't know, at the yard you reserve a "pod" for your workouts. Each pod has everything you would ever need for training which means there is never any waiting to use a piece of equipment. I have never had issues reserving a pod and usually can get one last minute if I need.
The music here is great, the people are super friendly, and overall I've had a great experience. If you're looking to start training in SF you found the right place, check it out!

The gym is clean and well equipped. Reservations run on time and it works perfectly to have your own private workout space. It saves me a ton of time to have my own equipment where I can just focus on my own routine and not worry about grabbing the first rack available.

This gym is incredible! The equipment is always clean and organized. The app is easy to use and booking appointments is a breeze. Me and my wife had the partnership membership which allows two people to workout for a discount by sharing a pod. Each pod includes a squat rack, bench, adjustable dumbbells and either an assault bike or rower.
If you’ve ever wanted a private gym but didn’t have the funds or the space, this place is for you! The only negative I could cite is I wish they had a little more weight in each pod. It tops out at 300 and I had to borrow from other pods on squat and deadlift days!

I train with a running club in this gym. And this gym is incredible! The concept of having your own spot with everything you need is one of its own. No frustration of having to wait in line for equipment. It’s very clean and the equipment is new and of high quality. Plus, it also has the weightlifting platform for each station, which is rare to see in a regular commercial gym. Haven’t I committed to a CrossFit box, I would definitely join this gym.

Had an awesome experience being a member at The Yard during my time in SF! The gym is clean, has friendly staff, and has a great selection of weightlifting equipment. The main draw though is the pod reservations! A lot of gyms in the city are super crowded in the morning and evening, so it is super nice to be able to reserve a pod/rack for yourself at The Yard! I never had a trouble getting a reservation, even during peak hours in the morning. It was great to be able to zone in and have a good workout without having to stress about waiting for equipment.

Easily one of the best gyms in San Francisco, providing a top notch experience for both personal trainers training clients and individuals looking to get a good, uninterrupted workout in. There's no need to wonder if you will get a squat rack or have space to do your routine. You can easily book space ahead of time, even at the busy morning or afternoon timeslots that other gyms in sf are super packed.
Definitely worth checking out if you are new and looking for a great gym or if you have tried other gyms in sf and are frustrated with how busy they can be or how long your workout is due to waiting for equipment.

What a gem of a gym! The pod system is an introvert's paradise. You can book your pod and have the space you need to do your workout. In other words, you won't have people hovering by your squat rack waiting for you to finish your sets. The barbell basics classes are also fantastic and a supportive/fun environment. As someone who is getting back into weightlifting after the pandemic, the classes have been invaluable in getting me back into the routine. The class trainers are great. They will check your form and make sure you are doing the lifts correctly. I highly recommend this gym and the classes.

I switched from Equinox to this gym and I'm glad I did. There are a lot of racks (9 in total I think). And you can reserve them, so you don't have to wait until someone else is done to use the equipment. Also Josh at the front desk is super friendly and helpful.

Awesome experience. Beautiful gym space, great equipment, clean and friendly staff/patrons. Will be back!
+ All the equipment you need to get a killer lift in at your personal “pod”
+ Good ambiance, music playing but not too loud so you could have your own music in.
+ turf indoors or outdoors to stretch and warm up
+ two showers! Huge for lifting in the morning before work
+ Juan at the front desk was friendly, showed me around the space and got me to my pod. Answered all of my questions about rates, memberships and facilities.
+ monthly rate is $270 for unlimited sessions, with no fees or lock ins.
+ in February 2024 they are offering two free classes

Pretty good facilities and privacy but quite a shame that the Mill Valley location supposedly has calibrated Eleiko KG plates but the SF one doesn’t :/// I get the main selling point is for introverts who want to work out quietly and not wait for anything but it’d be nice to at least have the same equipment across locations

This is the best gym membership experience i've ever had. I found out about this place by way of hiring a personal trainer who recommended meeting at the Yard for our sessions. Immediately I was hooked. The concept of reserving your own space for a limited time was pretty eye opening and new to me compared to traditional gyms. The space and equipment is extremely well maintained and well thought out. Joe is an amazing owner and has always been very accommodating in having the gym best fit my needs. Would def recommend to anyone looking for a low key type gym with super high ROI.

The Yard has perfected the balance of having your own private workout station but feeling part of a larger team. Each private station is outfitted with everything for your training needs (high-end cages, plates, free weights) and a multitude of other equipment is also available within the gym (e.g. rowers, assaultbikes, skiergs). The facility is extremely clean and management (Joe) creates a really welcoming and fun atmosphere. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to San Francisco.

Today was my first day at The Yard where I've relocated my Chiropractic Sports Care practice. The space is well ventilated with windows at the front and back end of the space. It was clean with disinfectant wipes available to clean equipment. In addition, it is has natural light from windows in the front, back, and skylight. I like how there are 8 separate pods available for rent by the hour with everything one needs for active rehabilitation, personal training, and sports conditioning. Furthermore, there are also communal areas inside and out in the backyard for use.

The Yard is a freaking awesome gym! This place has a friendly owner and a welcoming atmosphere. It has a very unique concept where individuals can book their own workout stations (aka pods) and have the space to themselves the entire time.
There are multiple pods and each pod is equipped with at least a squat rack, rowing, and biking machine. There are two turf areas where one can perform tire flips, TRX, power sled, battle ropes, etc.
They also have knowledgeable, certified personal trainers that offer individual or group lessons. It doesn't matter if you are an early bird or get off work late because the hours are accommodating. I love this place!
