Toadal is the best gym in Santa Cruz! The new location downtown is really great and the staff is friendly and helpful. They have much more of a local business vibe than some of the other gyms in town. You can always expect a warm greeting and a smile when Emilio is working the front desk.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like the location change from Lincoln St to Ocean Street.
But I can't tell you what a difference it has made.
So much newer, better, cleaner, brighter, friendlier, safer.
So Happy I stuck it out through the long wait.
So Much Better than 24 hour fitness, which is filthy, disgusting and rude.

Switched from one of the corporate run fitness centers in Santa Cruz to Toadal Fitness and I am glad I did. So far I have used three of their facilities including the pool in Watsonville. WIth the new location opening soon on Ocean Street and appointment saunas it is a great buy. At my age I am eligible for their Silver Sneakers Plus Program but their current promotions are also a good deal. Cut the corporate cord and go Toadal. Axel and Lee at the Downtown branch are both very helpful. CHloe in Watsonville is Aces to and the staff there super helpful and friendly. Westside facility is HUGE. Something for everyone at Toadal Fitness.

Toadal is a great, down-to-earth gym. I feel welcome every time I come in for a workout. Emilio at the management desk is always there to greet you and takes the time to chat and see how I'm doing. He recently helped me with a membership issue and was patient, understanding, and went above and beyond. I highly recommend Toadal!

I recently took a trip from Salt Lake, Utah to Taos New Mexico, while I was there I met a woman named Susan who mentioned the Bellito family. I used to live in No. Cal and I knew the Bellitos. Susan was excited to share her experience with the family as a patron of Toadal Fitness. She spoke of the kindness and humanitarian way they showed up for their community. She shared how she was struggling with some health issues and told me that Chloe noticed her struggles and went out of her way to make sure she was comfortable during her visits to the fitness center. It touched me to hear how important those gestures were to her during such a significantly difficult time in her life. Kindness can make all the difference in someones life and it has a positive ripple effect. Thank you Bellito Family for all you do!

This gym has always had a welcoming atmosphere and non intimidating when it comes to fitness. The staff is friendly and makes you feel like an old friend.

TIP: Just don't try to use the treadmill next to any of the hot chicks. You will embarrassed yourself, even if you wait 45 minutes into their running session, you'll be humiliated. I smoke though and am more of a weight guy aaaand.... am lazy 😣

TOTAL FITNESS TOLD ME IF I JOINED, I WOULD GET TWO MONTHS FOR FREE. I GAVE MY CARD AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE FIRST TWO MONTHS. I GOT MULTIPLE OVERDRAFTS THAT I COULD NOT GET RETURNED.

ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DOING HUMANITARIAN WORK AND PHOTO JOURNALISM DURING FIRE SEASON. I'VE BEEN DOING JOURNALISM FOR TWO DECADES, I HAVE COVERED OVER 50 FIRES, SEVEN HURRICANES AND EVEN WENT TO IRAQ BY MYSELF. I WAS HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND NOT CARRYING CASH.

TOTAL FITNESS CHARGING MY DEBIT CARDS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION IMPACTED MY SUCCESS AND JEOPARDIZED MY SAFETY BY NOT HAVING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I SHOULD OF IN MY ACCOUNT. I REPEATEDLY AND DESPERATELY CALLED THE OFFICE ASKING FOR THE MANAGERS TO RETURN MY CALLS, THEY NEVER DID.

Excellent experience with this gym. The staff is the friendliest you’ll come across and is always willing to go the extra mile. They even offer you locks for the lockers. The equipment is always kept clean and organized. I never have to wait in line to use equipment. One of my favorite things about this gym in Chris’s TRX class. Absolutely an amazing coach, challenging class, and fun group of people. Everything about this gym keeps me coming back. Highly recommend!

NOT YOUR TYPICAL GYM 😃 - I can honestly say that I had the most amazing experience being a member of Toadal over the years while living in Santa Cruz. This review is looong overdue.... but I want to sincerely thank the Toadal Fitness family, and specifically Chloe, John and Rob of their downtown location. Since day one they've been such a warm and welcoming bunch. They truly care about their members, will treat you like family and provide a level of customer service rarely seen in this day and age....especially in California lol. You will be surely missed, and I hope I can find another gym along my journey that is even half as good as being a member of Toadal Fitness 🙂

If you're in Santa Cruz and are looking for a small, friendly, and "not-so-intimidating" place to get your workouts in I highly recommend Toadal Fitness.
The staff is superb, the place stays clean, and the folk that go there are just as nice as the staff members. Not super expensive in terms of pricing as well, and it definitely beats large clubs by a mile.
Toadal is not super big, and is on the smaller side in terms of size. However, the timing is extremely flexible and there was never any shortage of equipment in the mornings.
Once again, highly recommend this place. It's an absolute gem in Santa Cruz.

Todal Fitness is incredible. I was an absolute newbie to gyms at all, and was completely blown away with how incredibly positive and supportive the environment is. The membership came with three personal trainer sessions, and Jacob was completely amazing. Honestly, the whole staff is great, and very friendly. Everybody wants to know your goals, and wants to help you reach them. No matter how stupid my questions were, everybody was really supportive and helpful.

I also respect how Todal is constantly upgrading things. They focus where it counts: on the equipment.

The place is also very clean. In over a year of going basically three times a week, I've never seen anything more out of place than a hand towel on the bathroom sink. The pads on the equipment are easy to clean because they are in good repair. The floor looks clean. The bathrooms look clean.

You should absolutely choose this gym.

Hands-down the best gym I have ever been to. I didn't believe it when I read that in other reviews, but it's true. I lost 14 pounds in my first 3 months here. The staff are welcoming and supportive, the other gym-goers are a diverse and respectful group, the gym is almost always quiet. This is not a gym for weight-slamming bros; it is for folks of all ages with a serious commitment to physical fitness, no matter their level.

I haven't taken a class yet, but have heard very happy ladies discussing them in the changing room, which is equiped with lockers, showers, and an infrared sauna.

I love Toadal fitness. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I love how they offer to borrow locks for the lockers. Never had that in a gym before. It's not an upscale fancy gym at all, but they do have everything you need. Weight raise, they have two squat racks, and two bench racks. The crowd is good too and it is not pretentious. Would definitely recommend this gym.

This is an okay gym, but definitely a bit run down. The weight plates come from at least different sets, the bathrooms aren't very clean and don't have private showers, just group showers (so if you like seeing naked old men in the locker room who love letting everything hang loose...well, this is the place for you). The equipment is limited (only one bench press), so literally 7-10 people in the main weight room means it's crowded.

Sadly like many other gyms they charge enrollment/signup fees and pull the "we're having a sale right now, so we can slash your rates if you sign up right now!" One positive is the staff is pretty friendly.

I was spoiled by my last gym, which was open 24/7, was in very good condition, and cost a flat $40/month, no contracts and no enrollment fees.

I’ve been enjoying this local club for three years now. I’m a senior, and find this medium-sized gym just right for my needs. It’s not full of buff 22-yr-olds, but people of all ages. It’s not a flashy place like 24-hr-Fitness with its pushy salesmen. I find the Toadal staff quite helpful and friendly. Their trainers are just fine. There’s a weight room, cardio room with TVs and the strength machine room in the front, and they keep equipment updated. Completely meets my needs, with a bit of French flair in the air! Come join me and feel so full of elan after your workout!

Terrible customer service. Was told i had to pay $10 to see the gym. All i wanted to do was look around to see if it had all the equipment i needed to complete my specific workout. I will find somewhere else to give my money, that actually cares about my overall satisfaction and not just a quick payday.

Decent gym but $10 a day for a visitor? I was staying at a local hotel & they said that they worked out a rate of $5 per day. Guess the owner/staff never got that memo.

I was a member of Bike Dojo, a spin facility that Toadal Fitness bought. Since they took it over, the place has really gone down hill. The quality of the spin instructors has diminished. That's not just my opinion. Although they say they are going to refurbish the facility, it's now a dump. Bikes are in disrepair, torn seats and more. The last straw for me is that they closed the 2 showers in the facility. Many others have complained about this too. I was told they expect you to come over to their other facility a few doors down. I got to tell you the last thing I want to do after a hard spin class is travel down the block to take a shower. Here'e the kind of operation they run. I was told they removed some of the fixtures in the showers and moved them to another club they were opening. Really? Why not buy separate fixtures. Is business that bad.

If you are looking for a place to work out, or spin, you have a lot of choices in Santa Cruz. I also belong to a larger fitness center and I'm really happy with them. I would check this place out before joining. I used to go to Bike Dojo for lunch spins and after work. It was convenient. Now they place just sucks. I wish I could use a better word.

Now I'm a pretty reasonable guy, but this last bit just says a lot about the operation. When I said I'd like to cancel my membership, the manager of the facility said "the club will be better off without you as a member". That's a quote. How are they going to feel about you? Choose wisely.
