I joined Tri-Valley Karate when I was 14, and now at 23, I can truly say that the experience has had a deep and lasting impact on me. I trained consistently throughout high school and into my first year of college, and the principles I learned—discipline, patience, perseverance, and the value of hard work and dedication—have shaped who I am today.

Training here goes far beyond just learning martial arts. The dojo instills essential life values that carry over into every aspect of your life—whether it's school, work, or personal growth. Karate helped me stay grounded and taught me to stay focused, push through obstacles, and trust in the process of consistent effort.

Sensei is not only a skilled and thoughtful instructor, but also a dedicated mentor. He cares deeply about each and every one of his students, and his patience, encouragement, and commitment to each student's growth are what truly set this dojo apart.

The community at Tri-Valley Karate is welcoming, supportive, and inspiring. It's a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to learn, grow, and support one another. I’m incredibly thankful to Sensei and grateful for my experience at Tri-Valley Karate. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional martial arts training as well as a place to grow, challenge yourself, and feel part of a genuinely supportive community.

I joined Tri-Valley Karate in 2014 as a 12-year-old middle schooler, and I’m now 23. Over the years, I’ve carried many of the lessons I learned in the dojo into my daily life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experience.

My family and I trained here for about six years. During that time, I had the privilege of learning martial arts under Sensei Sanjit, whose dedication to his students is truly unmatched. His instruction goes beyond technique—he teaches with precision, discipline, and a genuine commitment to helping each student grow. He sets high and challenging standards and gives you the tools and encouragement to meet them.

Training at Tri-Valley Karate Pleasanton – Goju Ryu Karatedo was more than just a physical practice; it became a second home during my middle and high school years. Sensei Sanjit keeps the dojo current and continually refines his own technique ensuring he offers the best instruction.

My family and I hold great respect for Sensei Sanjit and everything he has built through this dojo. I highly recommend Tri-Valley Karate to anyone looking for not just excellent martial arts training, but a strong and respectful community. :))

The Sensei at Tri-Valley Karate provide the best martial arts classes near me in Pleasanton. Every student has to work hard to earn their stripes and belts; they are not handed out. I had to train at home every week to make sure I was ready for my exam. Sensei pushes us to improve and become better people and karate students. With a focus on discipline, respect, and self-improvement, this karate school offers a great training environment where students can grow and thrive. I love my friends at the dojo! 🥰

Sanjit Sensei is an excellent teacher, mentor and colleague. He is very knowledgeable of what he does and most of all truly cares about the students’ performance quality. He keeps to the roots of the art, Goju Ryu, while understanding how to blend the modern way of teaching the new generations.

I started attending classes at this dojo in 2021, in my late 40s, and never having had any experience with martial arts or self defense of any kind. I had no idea what to expect. What I found was a room full of friendly and dedicated students of all ages and ability levels, led by an extraordinarily patient, knowledgeable, and supportive Sensei. In my journey at the dojo I have learned so much from Sensei, the Senpais, and every other student I train with. It's a special place.

I joined Tri-Valley Karate in 2019 when I couldn't speak English fluently as I just moved from Japan. I already had a black belt from a different branch of karate then, but Sensei was was very nice and considerate about my circumstance and I was able to learn a lot even with my broken English for the first year. Along with practicing various karate techniques, Sensei explains why and how to use certain moves in dojo or in real life as self-defense. Sensei always comes around and give feedback and advice to every students and help prepare them for the testings for belts. Occasionally, he provides additional practice sessions before competitions as well. I'm leaving for college this year, but this 5 years in dojo helped me develop not only my karate skills but also confidence, communication skill, and leadership. The community of Tri-Valley Karate is very friendly and welcoming, and I am really glad that I joined this dojo. I'm thankful for Sanjit Sensei for all the experience.

An update 6 years later: We are still with Sensei Sanjit at Tri-Valley Karate. My daughters and I attend classes regularly every week and have learned so much about karate and how our bodies move over the years. We have built a community of fellow karate partners that truly feels like family. What I appreciate most is the dedication from Sensei; we have to really earn our belts and that journey tests discipline, diligence, and perseverance. I highly recommend Tri-Valley Karate!

Original post: I’m very happy to have discovered Tri-Valley Karate, thanks to a friend’s recommendation. Sensei took a lot of time to speak with me about options for my 7-year old daughter. He recommended the 2-week trial, which was really eye-opening. You really learn karate! The young kids do all of the punches and kicks, and they learn the names/words in Japanese. Sensei is patient and explains all of the etiquette and moves in detail. The 3x/week availability is great; we take advantage of more practice. I especially appreciate the added help from students with higher level belts. The facility is clean and large. There isn’t AC, but most days the large fan does the job. We recently received a folder with pamphlets containing explanations of moves, Japanese words, and more info on what we’re learning. Sensei also regularly sends emails with video tutorials; his passion for teaching karate is evident! Looking forward to continuing to learn with my daughter.

Tri-Valley Karate Pleasanton truly cares for all members while embracing the Goju-Ryu karate style. Their continuous commitment towards all dojo pupils reveal their goal to push every student beyond the boundary of expectation. They encourage you, support you, and most importantly they teach you the fundamentals of karate while keeping in mind it's most historic past.

All in all, this dojo is not a circle of individuals learning karate, but instead close peers trying their best to reach their aspirations and goals.

Thank you to Sensei and his family for everything they do to ensure the success of our dojo! :)

Being able to go to karate is an Awesome experience. My teacher is very flexible and he will help me no matter what. Going there has helped me become physically and mentally strong. We also have tournaments in other cities that gives us a feel of how competition works. Other teachers that are highly experienced come to our Dojo to teach. And it helps us all improve as a person and a karate competitor. I think I have gone a long way from before I started. I highly recommend going to this Karate class. Given all the reasons I rate this class 5 stars !!

Tri-Valley Karate gives lots of opportunities to take part in competition, but is based on a traditional style of karate, which is exactly what i was looking for. One of the best things about this dojo is how many parents take part in the karate along with there kids. Thanks again.

I have trained with Sensei Sanjit for several years and it was an excellent opportunity for me to learn from him. He taught us useful sparring skills and different techniques to win a competition. He himself also won a lot of medals.

I have had both the honor and pleasure of training alongside Sensei Sanjit Mandal for almost 10 years during his time in Boston. He was at that point already a senior student of our Sensei Kazumi Tabata, and a trusted mentor to myself and other new students. Sanjit’s enthusiasm for martial arts was contagious, always making himself available to myself and junior students inside and outside of class, and helping to run and judge tournaments, involving himself in every aspect of karate to keep the art thriving in New England. The most important question to ask when choosing a martial arts instructor, is “Does this person truly love the art?”. Sanjit’s love for the art was powerfully evident to me all those years in Boston, seen in his work ethic both in and out of the dojo. A fierce martial artist, a gentle spirit, and a loving father are how I remember Sanjit, and I wish him all the best in his endeavors with his new karate school.

For several years I had been looking to get back in to martial arts. Having previously trained in traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate I had been searching for a school that would respect the centuries old traditions of karate and deliver the teachings of an old world dojo. Tri-Valley Karate in Pleasanton offers such a program. Sensei Mandal takes a personal interest each student’s progress offering instruction that is not only challenging but tailored to our personal development. The dojo is a very family friendly environment; My 6 year old son and I have been training together since last year. We couldn’t be happier.
