so my previous review of this location i gave 5 stars out of fairness because i am not a member.. i mentioned issues i had figuring out membership costs.. Well..to update after finally getting answers to the issue... I have to remove a star.. because the initial membership cost exceeds reason in my opinion.. and unfortunately they no longer offer to break up the initial membership cost as they did under previous ownership.. and (you can play the drum roll now)..sign up which includes the first month is in excess of $370 which apparently must be paid in full at sign up... and to add insult..a single day pass to get a feel for the place before you drop nearly $400 will cost you $30 so a bit under $400 if you go in blindly and exceeding 4 bills if you want to know what your paying for... so apparently i will not be giving a review from the membership perspective as this cost would defeat the purpose as starvation is unhealthy!

Love love love the water aerobics with Melinda. What a fun group exercise! Melinda keeps us moving all year long. Right now we are still in the outdoor pool. When it gets chilly, we will work out in the indoor pool. Great fun! Great instructor!

Love coming to this gym every chance I get! The updated women’s locker room is amazing with the built in locks on the locker! Staff are always friendly and very helpful, as well as understanding. The equipment is in great condition and there is a sauna in the locker rooms. My son loves swimming in the pools and I enjoy the hot tub for my sore muscles. Would totally recommend this gym to anyone looking for a new gym for their fitness goals. All fitness levels are welcome here and different fitness classes are offered as well.

I'm giving a 5 star review out of fairness because I am not actually a member. I am a past member from several owners back and if the latest owners have improved things a bit then the place likely deserves 5 stars . That being said..I will now proceed to my petty bickering! The website for membership with the South State Street location simply says, "starting at $95" with a button that directs you to click it to pay now.. but this being the location with the pools, racquetball courts, sauna, weight room etc.. in the past there has been an initiation fee that was required.. and with those ominous two words above that $95/month : "starting at" I also flashed back on things like "partial" and "full time" memberships being a thing so it leaves me a little flustered and a lot hesitant to just "pay now" the $95 when there may be a required additional $200+ fee for full membership waiting to greet me at the counter.. Do not get me wrong....this may not be the case.. it's. been a long time since I was a member and the name has changed.. I'm just not used to things becoming cheaper and the website is a little vague.. but the place was great before so improvements are a good thing.... But also cost money so I guess this is " To be continued" after I pay them a visit in person..

I had the most horrific encounter over the phone with one of the owners of the club regarding my membership dues.
I usually freeze my membership for the winter, resuming in June thru September. I forgot to call on June 1st to postpone my membership until the fall, as I’m having a knee replacement soon and unable to come in.
I saw there was a pending charge on my Visa card and called to say I’d be out a few more months, and could they please reverse the charge. The friendly staff said of course, so I thought that was it.
The next day I saw the charge had gone thru as a charge, so I called again and the kind gentleman that answered said he would let management know. I followed up with an email just to confirm this, and once again thought it was resolved.
Today one of the owners called to tell me I didn’t give a 30 day notice, so she would not reverse the change. I said that this was unreal, I’m expected to pay a full monthly fee for 1 day. She said I’m required to give a 30 day notice and that I had to pay the full amount. Then she asked if I wanted to freeze until September! I said I’d never be back!
I’m 72 years old, on a fixed income. While this won’t break the bank, I thought it was a horrible way to treat someone. A full month’s fee for 1 day. Unreal.

Shout out to UVAC staff -- to the cleaning crew who constatly work to keep it shiny and to the friendly accommodating front desk staff! Maribel is always friendly and welcoming, and she handles everything efficiently. She practically knows what I want before I even ask. Ask Kaylee If you need any extra help with Libby or Kindle. She's a whiz.
Deni, one of the owners, is, an excellent teacher, kind, and generous with her time. Also, I began at the club as an add-on to my roommate's membership. After he moved away, I had to establish my own membership, and they waived the initiation fee for me. They could have charged me, and they didn't. Thanks UVAC!
Since I retired, I consider working out to be my job now. And UVAC is my home away from home. Two pools, yoga, TRX, Tai Chi -- tons of classes. The sauna... ahh... They also have a nice little cafe and sitting areas, with good food made by Boont Valley Farm.
Gather has just added to the menu. Yum.
And also new, Giants games aired live in the treadmill room! ⚾️

Cleaning is a task that usually only get noticed when it is NOT done. But I would like to express my appreciation for how hard the staff works to keep the gym clean. I usually go to the Main Street location and the location near the theater, so I am only commenting on those locations. The cleanness and orderliness are great. Thank you for your hard work. One note from person who has worked at many fitness centers and gyms. I was always taught to spray the rag and not the machine to keep the electronics working. Might be a good thing to promote with your clients.

I’ve been a member of this club for over 30 years. Sticking with it through all of the ownership changes. Basically I I love the place although I primarily use the outdoor pool. Unfortunately I did not get honest communication when my husband paused his membership and my rate then doubled. How can this be good business? I feel disappointed and disrespected. If I would have been informed of the increase I could have made an informed decision.

This club is great and has everything and then some. I use the pool and hot tub frequently and they are clean and good temperature. When problems arise admin takes action.
I wish there were more classes offered for working people hours (ie: 6-8:30am and after 5 pm) but when I can arrange my schedule the classes have always been great with knowledgeable facilitators and good energy. I’ve been a member for almost 10 years.

Maybe one of the most disgusting places I've ever visited in my life. Everything about this place is nasty, the showers, the pool, the sauna ( ewww ). For the price your charging and what you get it's just not up to date. I even would pay more of it would be clean. But hey guess it's Ok in Mendocino.

I don't know why u still in business - guess people have no other options, I was in 2000 year old roman bathes in Europe and it was cleaner and nicer. I would be embarrassed to work there.

Tried switching my account from access to all the gyms and taking my boyfriend off mine to the 24 hr option for myself only. So I buy a membership online, afterwards I go to the main office to get my key card. Everything went well fees were paid off and I was given my new key card for my new account.

Fast forward like two or three months; payments have been made for my account automatically and I misplace my key card. I go back to the office to replace mine on 2/16 and there was a younger girl at the counter who was incredibly unwelcoming and rude. Maybe she’s having a rough night so I try to be super respectful but she was really getting on my nerves by how condescending she was acting after being pretty polite to her.

When I give her the info to my account she brings up an issue, Apparently I have two existing accounts still under the same name and same phone number and I found out that I was supposed to be given a form to sign to cancel my original membership. I was not given a form, payments were not getting processed for my original account, last time I was in there fees were paid off, and payments have been made for my new account.

At this point I am super confused and frustrated, she was very vague and unhelpful. She had me quickly sign a document I didn’t even get the chance to read or get a copy of and told me that the owner would call me. She proceeds to scan a key card and give it to me, I use it at the gym that night.

Situation seemed kind of sketchy to me and so far I haven’t received any other info or call from the owner. This whole process almost made me want to cancel my entire gym membership altogether and I consistently go. And now my key card won’t scan after I just got a new one, so frustrating. Yikes.

I am so delighted to respond with how impressed I am with the owner, John. We had a very pleasant discussion about how difficult the decision was for them to make in regards to the Silver Slippers program and how hard they tried to make it work.

I want to apologize for my comment that I posted, "They will no longer support Seniors by accepting Silver Slippers health care programs….😢", I really should have tried contacting John first to see exactly the reason for the decision and how they were working make the Health Club still affordable for Seniors. I will soon become a member again.

Would give 0 stars if it were an option. They lost a personal check that was for updating payment information so they kept charging the monthly fee but it wouldn’t process since they failed to update the account. Couldn’t use the gym for 2 months due to this but we still had to pay even though it was their error. There was also a cancellation fee after all of that. This place is a complete rip off and customer service was horrible.

Reply to response. My husband spoke to the owner himself about the problems because he knows him personally so don’t lie. No the cancellation fee was not waived or the amount we paid today to cancel would’ve been less so again stop lying to try to look good. The account was past due since your employees lost the payment method before they updated it so just stop.

The Athletic Club is an integral part of community health in Ukiah. It has one main club and two other annexed gyms on Main and on Mill. The equipment is quality and maintained. Lots of classes to try my favorite are Buti Yoga and pilates also Zumba the instructors are really helpful. The new ownership doing good job getting things done, new machines the awesome things is the childcare service you can just add your kids in to your account and enjoy 2 hours a day of free kid club access, kid yoga class on Sunday which Deborah is the awesome teacher also horse play with Nate on Saturday morning that so perfect for my energetic 6 years old. The staff are so kind and helpful just like your family, they occasionally offer parents night out for affordable price.

At UVAC - The front end staff are not friendly or welcoming in any way- in fact it's quite the opposite. If you ask questions they seem inconvenienced and annoyed. When a membership is purchased, the staff didn't offer a tour or any supportive information about the facility. This facility is old, run down, and often not even having adequate showers available for use after a work out or a swim. Just the staff alone makes you want to go somewhere else to better spend your money. Not a good experience and not recommended. I feel they need way friendlier staff that offers some professional,customer service skills and to have people there that actually do want to help the paying guests. Also, it is Super overpriced for what is offered

It bothers me that you spend almost 200 dollars a month to work out but half the machines are always down. To get help is impossible or the people are rude. Theres 8 tredmills in this room and really only 4 work, ive drove down 3 times and to get on a treadmill has been impossible unless you go outside like the front desk told me to do.. at 5 am and freezing outside. Was late on 1 payment due to sickness and they charged me over 30 dollars for 1 day late. This gym has come a long way in the right direction with the current management. The gym is clean, the staff are kind, and the services are great. This particular gym has both indoor and out door pools, sauna, jacuzzi, indoor basketball, racket ball, fitness classes and more. The gym also offers a fitness pass they call the "black card" which gives you access to two additional gyms in Ukiah, for an additional fee. Overall, a fantastic place to work out. If you are curious, they have no problem giving you a tour to check out for yourself.

I visited the gym on a out of town biking adventure. I always look for open gyms on out of town trips. I called they were open and I trained in a nice gym for a 20.00 day pass. To me, worth it. I am among the folks who have higher risk during this pandemic. I never received a call of inquiry about the business no longer being able to collect monthly fees from me -- just started receiving harassing robo calls. They have now sent me to collections. I see this as a significant fail on the part of their customer service division. I understand legally they think they have a right to enforce the contract. I don't think they morally have the right to demand money during this epidemic. The collection system is manipulative and treats anyone who is doesn't pay as criminal; I'm not interested in cooperating. If they want to be seen as a local business (and not a chain), they should act more like neighbors and less like lawyers.

I’ve been going to Uvac/HealthClub since I was a kid. I have always had a good experience with them until now. Since COVID-19 they have had to limit the use in the facility and let go over half of their employees. Also swimming is awkward when trying to distance yourself. And with the winter months coming my girlfriend and I aren’t looking forward to working out outside. So we decided to cancel our membership. Since then have received negative feedback from the club. They have a poor way of communicating and sound desperate for my money through an email. Saying they will send the money i owe to collections for missing one payment. So to that I have no choice but to (Respectfully) decline my membership and never step foot I the facility again.

Was informed of a $50.00 weekly pass by a man over the phone. Upon entering the girl at the front office says, only for out of state residents.
Please train your employees to be clear over the phone, so they know before traveling to your club.

I have been there as a guest twice but so far i loved it. Massive gym with infinity of facilities, from outside pool to indor pool, jacuzzi to basketball field, 3 different machines and weights rooms, some spare rooms for classes...etc. I can not comment about the price because i said i have only been as a guest, but it is worth to have a look!
I would recommend it.

I primarily use the club for swimming. I am genderqueer and my body has both male and female characteristics that will appear strange in either locker room. I canceled my membership because I didn’t feel sure of my safety in the gendered locker rooms and feel vulnerable swimming. There is one restroom that is not gendered where I can change, but it lacks heat, swimsuit dryer, showers, and lockers. Improving that room or creating a non-gendered space to shower, change, and dry my suit would be very helpful. I understand that changing the locker rooms will take time, but I am not inclined to resume membership when I feel unsafe using them. It is a big barrier to motivating myself to go work out. The rates are high for someone who wants to only use the pools and hot tub, especially when I cannot use the locker rooms. Until there are locker room changes, I would be more likely to use the facilities more often if there were a lower fee. Perhaps an aquatic facilities only membership or guest pass?
