this gym is very dirty. it is in dire need of a renovation or even a touch up. the water fountains have been out of service for at least 2 years, if not longer. but they'll sure as hell sell you water. the floors near the dumbbell rack are so uneven and are in desperate need of replacement/repair. there's literally chunks missing from the concrete underneath!

you can get a good workout if you know what you're doing, sure. but there seems no internal desire or motivation for management of this location to take care of failing and aging equipment, general cleanliness of the workout areas and repair of basic necessities such as the water fountains (DID I MENTION THEY'VE BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS 😭)

The staff does an incredible job at balancing friendships with members while enforcing rules to maintain a comfortable space for everyone. I don’t need to worry about unsupervised children, dodging tripods, machine hogs, rude behavior, and other unpleasant things that I have experienced at other facilities.
There are unspoken rules as well as posted rules which help keep a certain culture and vibe to this gym. When you take the tour and/or purchase a day pass, you know if you fit in and if this place is for you.
The IB location is so spacious and full of equipment, so no need for me to stress on a half assed sesh because I couldn’t utilize a machine or weights that I needed. There’s plenty to go around and members are also respectful if you are waiting on something they are using and won’t bs.
It’s safe to say, I’ll happily continue my membership with the Ultimate Fitness and am pleased with all it has to offer.

Ultimate fitness IB is hands down my favorite gym I’ve stepped foot in. The staff is awesome, super kind, super welcoming, and easy to get along with. The machines and free weights are hands down better than any commercial gym in my opinion. Really love the whole old school aesthetic they got going on. I’ve been going for about 3 years now, and I would recommend this place 10 out of 10 times over any commercial gym.

I would like to give ultimate fitness a five star review in all areas and aspects.I have been coming to this gym for years and the front desk staff as well as the managers have always been welcoming and respectful. Their down to earth vibe kick starts your workout routine with positivity. If we ever have questions,they have answers. If we ever need help,they are always there with fast actions and I appreciate that. The equipment is definitely old school and the atmosphere isn't competitive or uncomfortable. From the welcoming faces of the staff,to the family-like members,this gym feels like home. I have never had any issues with anyone here and this is my favorite gym (and I've been to many gyms). I love the connection/friendship I have made with Dawn,Josh and all of the other staff members. They show us members so much respect but most of all,they show us love. Having such great staff makes my gym sessions so much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this gym to anyone

This happened at the Imperial Beach location. In more than 10 years of working out at different Gyms of different brands I have never encountered a so poor costumer service. Today 08/05/2025 around 11am, for the first time my wife and I took our 12 years old kid with us, he wasn't to work out or use any of the equipment, at the front desk the lady told us that our kid couldn't come in with us because he is not a member and if we wanted to come with us he had to pay a one day visit, even though he wouldn't use the equipment, I ask my kid to wait at the bench that is at the entrance. Later on my wife went to check on him and he said he needed to use the restroom, the front desk lady wasn't there and my wife tried to take my kid inside, while they were going in they saw the lady and my wife ask if my kid could use the restroom, she replay with a very adamant no, and my wife had to go outside and look for a place so my kid could've use the restroom. What I grading here is the costumer service. I think that as a courtesy for the members the employees should be a little more understanding, when you have kids life life becomes more unpredictable. Then later I talked to the manager and he was trying to explain to me about the rules the place have. Rules can be modified depending on the situation and this was a one time event. I just hope that in the future situations like this can be address, costumers shouldn't be treated like a number and employees shouldn't be on the offensive and entitled all the time, they should try to level with their costumes once on a while, for a change!

Solid gym. I love this school vibes. All 4 stars are for friendly staff and variety of equipment.
No running water is insane to me, not even water bottle fill stations. Also the random cumbia music blasting doesn't really set the vibe for hitting weights but it does fit the location.
The cardio equipment is hit or miss with actually working monitors.
I'd say overall you're getting what you pay for, the price is decent.
But like I say. Staff is always friendly the customers seem to mind their own and take care to put plates back.

I love this gym
Reasons for 4 stars are because it's just not a 5 star gym. The tvs don't work, the equipment is a little dated.. it COULD be fancier. And the hours are terrible on Sat and Sun.
HOWEVER!!
It's got a lot of equipment. Each piece has a QR code so if you want help without asking, just scab the sticker with your phone and watch a quick,"How To" video, and voila!
You know know how to use it.
Also, I like that the locker rooms aren't ever crowded at all and I feel my things are safe.
The upstairs has treadmills and cycling stuff, so for your first visit, it's best to start up there since you can look down upon a large portion of the gym and observe others and see how things are done first.
They have spray bottles with cleaner around and they are kept clean.
The people who go there tend to stick to themselves, so there aren't any ,"cliques" or anything like that to have to worry about.
I enjoy putting in my earbuds, putting my favorite music on, leaving my phone in my locker and then starting upstairs for a warm up and a plan.
My earbuds even get signal throughout the entire place, so I really like that too.
No pool. No showers. But that's kinda normal these days.

Great equipment, friendly environment. I had Houston Fry as a personal trainer for this past month and it is the best money Ive spent in a long while. Truly felt like a student training with a sensei when it comes to Houstons knowledge and experience. Highly recommend this place and its team.

I was visiting from out of town and bought a day pass. Very friendly staff and I loved the huge collection of awesome machines. This could be a fitness museum as much as it is an active gym. Lots of hard working people there using the place, on a Sunday no less. My only gripe would be the cost of a day pass at $20. Two visits would be well above what I pay for my monthly membership at home. But that's apparently the rate at another nearby gym as well. If you don't mind the fee, you'll get a great workout. Plenty of machines and free weights, and cardio equipment.

Moved to Otay Ranch from Orange County recently, and this place is THE BEST GYM if you're a bodybuilder. Even during after work "rush hour" it's never packed, and you don't ever have to wait for equipment because they have so many variations of each one. Everyone is nice and there for the same purpose, no groups of kids standing around on their phones, no wannabe "influencers," everyone picks up after themselves. They have so much unique equipment that few other gyms have, I feel like a kid in a candy store. The "old school" vibe is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like Gold's Venice or The Gym in PB you'll love it here. Worth making the drive every time I come here.

I guess the "Old School" vibe they tout refers to 75% of the equipment being broken or in disrepair. Or maybe it's how all the surfaces (including the carpeted floors) are filthy/dusty and the only way to clean any of it is with a few dirty rags + spray bottles. Oh there are paper towels dispensers ...that do not dispense paper towels because they're broken or they just never bother to refill them. I don't know. Maybe that's what Old School means. Like back in the day before standardized cleaning products were part of the gym experience?

They also don't have functioning water fountains because from what I heard the owner didn't feel like it was cost effective to fix the issue. I guess they'd rather their customers bring their own source of drinking water to avoid dehydration. But hey, they DID put signs over the drinking fountains to let you know not to put anything down the drain, probably because they didn't want to clean it out. It was nice to look at them and dream, though.

The MOST "Old School" thing about this gym, however, is how all of the weights and weight machines are rusty, filthy like everything else, placed seemingly at random and in disrepair or broken. Like roughly 80% of this stuff has something that either SHOULD be fixed or NEEDS to be fixed. Every day I went I was watching out for that one jagged, rusted piece of metal that was going to tear into my skin and give me a disease.

Yeah this place is "Old School" alright. Like a crypt. But even crypts that have been in service for a few thousand years are somewhat hospitable to human life.

I have been a member for a little less than a year now and I would not recommend this gym to anyone. The machines are always dirty the free wights are filthy, the restrooms always have flies in them and it smells very poorly, I have never seen the showers ever work or been used before nor have I seen the water fountain ever work. I mean if someone pays $30.00 a month least you could do is make the water work for your customers. The only thing I have seen them do is add a couple calisthenic workouts outside when they should be investing that into flooring for the gym. The windows are filthy and you can barely see inside. I payed the same amount at La Fitness In Eastlake and it came with a pool sauna lockers clean restrooms and weights basketball court boxing room and water fountains that work. I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

I’ve been a member here for two years now. Everything here is old, which is fine, as long as things work. Cable machines are fine, but the electronic equipment lacks. Consistently. They keep promising (since I’ve been a member) new, updated or repairs on current equipment (treadmills, stair steppers, etc). All the treadmills are either gone or broken, and have replaced them with hamster wheels. There is only one working stair stepper at a time. Hard to want to go to the gym where not many things work.

Wonderful place to workout. It's a mostly younger crowd, but there's still those that are between thirty to sixty present. The staff is very friendly. More comfortable than a "how are you doing today, sir" establishment. Only reason I don't put 5 stars is some of the cardio equipment doesn't work in terms of the screens turning on, but they're still useable. Showers and lockers are available. You only have to bring your own lock to use the lockers. And there's a small outdoor area to exercise in as well. Definitely worth the membership. (Mostly because I value a non threatening gym environment hah hah.. )

The equipment is decent but poorly maintained, the staff thinks it’s a great idea to have their horrible music blasting to a limit where you can barley hear your own music even with noise canceling head phones. When you ask to lower it they tell you that’s the standard limit which is complete bs. Half the staff doesn’t even care about their job which shows why they always have new workers, the bathrooms are horrendous they’re always a mess. Over all this gym needs some work!

the bar is so rusted here, it weighs more and adds extra resistance, making u stronger. The mold u breathe in in the bathrooms is like resistance training for your lungs, increasing ur O2 levels. Not for the weak. 10/10 would go again.
