Working with Reggie has been transformative to my life: helping me find healthy relationships with nutrition, training, and overall improving my health while I enter my 30s. Ask for Killian! I've been training with him for quite some time and it's been the most effective workout I've done yet. My goals are specific: Keep me safe, teach and maintain proper form & technique, and keep increasing weight load as I adapt. He does all of that and keeps me accountable to increasing what I can lift. Importantly, he is professional, friendly, and reasonable. I don't do fads diets, or don't tolerate trainers who treat staying healthy as a crash course/temporary fix with unrealistic goals. This is a permanent way of life for me and he is really supportive of that!

The training is extremely personalized, tailored, and supported by a knowledge based approach focused on overall health, nutrition and the achievement of real time goals. I have trained with Chris Weatherholtz (who is an incredibly talented and dedicated professional) for a long time and am now training with Octavian Shepherd in the Brentwood location. Candace is an absolute legend! If you’re considering joining UP, do it! I was skeptical at first because I’ve worked out with other trainers or gyms, but UP/Candace absolutely delivered.

From the very beginning, they’re very data-driven. They ask you what your goal is and set clear expectations to help you achieve it. No quick schemes here; you put in the work and do it in a sustainable way. They were able to get me exactly to my goal by providing clear steps along the way.

Candace went above and beyond by giving me ideas for groceries, snacks, and at-home workouts. She even went as far as to review the menu at a date night restaurant and provide me with tips for ordering meals.

Entering my 50s, and seeing older friends passing away and struggling with immobility, diabetes, and other health issues, I became convinced – for my sake and, moreover, for the sake and futures of my children – that I could no longer responsibly avoid making physical fitness a top priority in my life.

My time is important to me, and I knew I’d need guidance to achieve results as efficiently and effectively as possible. A friend referred me to UP after completely transforming his own physical health, and I started with my trainer, Killian, at the Brentwood location, two months ago. While I was already running and trying to pay attention to my diet, he got me on a simple, straightforward program that led to a new awareness of what I eat and how it affects my body. During training sessions he relentlessly focused on form, ensuring safe progress while increasing intensity. In two months, I’m down an additional 20lbs, I look and feel better than I ever have in my life, I’ve increased confidence, and my kids are shocked and inspired by the changes.

The gym itself is top shelf. Clean, bright, well laid out, very well-managed, and everyone (both staff and other clients) is friendly, welcoming, and supportive. The trainers are professionals who are entirely focused on their clients and their goals. UP gets my strongest recommendation for anyone who is committed to investing in their own physical fitness by working with the best partners available to achieve serious results as efficiently as possible.

The hype on this place has not been exaggerated. This is more than just a gym, this is the place that gives people their life back!

I joined U.P. in late October of 2024 after several months of feeling down after two car accidents back to back. I committed to physical therapy, which helped but mentally my mind was in the gutter. I didn't want to get back in my car, I stopped going out and talking to people. I had lost all motivation and I was Doordashing and eating everything that brought me comfort; sweets, pizza, etc.

I had gained 40 pounds and my day to day consisted of feeling tired, more depressed and having brain fog. In only the first 3 months at U.P. I lost nearly 25 pounds and have felt better than I ever felt before! My trainer Faith Thomas was there every step of the way. She was stern when she needed to be, graceful, poised, kind and extremely patient throughout the entire process. She answered all of my questions and concerns. She is very knowledgeable of all the science behind nutrition, muscle building and preventing injuries. She is quite impressive and this only proves that this place only hires the best in the business. Trainers here really do care about the people they work with.

Faith was very accommodating with my prior injuries. She always kept an eye on my form, making sure that I was doing it right at every angle, for every rep, correcting inch by inch to make sure that not only I was getting the best out of my workout but most importantly, to avoid injury. Her efforts helped me so much because after only one month with her, my back pain was almost non existent! She helped me strengthen my back and it felt like I had never been in any car accidents before!

I also had a prior incident involving my pelvic area which makes it very difficult and painful for me to do particular exercises that involve the stretching of that area when using the left leg (lounges, split squats, etc). She helped me modify those particular exercises when using my left leg so that I could still target the muscle but minimize pain.

This is one of the best thing that I've ever done for me. I'm 33 years-old and I truly believed that it would be nearly impossible to shed no more than 5lbs. because my metabolism isn't what it used to be. Oh - did I mention that I had gallbladder removal surgery? Well, Faith was able to help get my digestion going since my body was no longer producing bile to help break down food. She put me on supplements and a calorie deficit diet where we kept track of all my macros on their cool app. I committed to sleeping 8 hours each night, drinking water and getting 10K-15K steps done everyday. This, plus strength training 3x's a week with her, helped me reach a goal that not long ago felt like it was impossible for me to reach.

I've learned that this whole thing is mostly mental. The mind is powerful thing and just like the other muscles in your body, you need to train your mind in order to achieve discipline. If you were like me & are hesitant about this place, I'll just say this...the best version of You is ready to meet you when you're done feeling sorry for yourself.

I was turned on to UP by a friend that completed a 7 month transformation. I saw them literally change their body composition and become sculpted and fit. I scheduled a consultation at the Brentwood location and two weeks later I was hitting the gym floor with my trainer, Faith. Faith, as well as all the trainers at UP are very knowledgeable & competent from the physical, to the nutritional end. They start from the ground up teaching the basics of simple movements, teaching the correct mechanics. It's a comprehensive program that WILL work if you listen to them! I have muscle definition and strength that I was not able to achieve before on my own, or with various other training programs/gyms. This place has curated a health and wellness journey beyond any expectations I had prior to joining. The results are as real as can be, I was hesitant at first considering how long l had been away from the gym and thought the before and after pictures might've been representative of a small portion of the members.

Not at all true, they are as deliberate and thorough with every aspect of the journey. I'm so grateful for my trainer Reginald who structured a program that accounted for my body type, dietary restrictions along with an incredibly busy calendar. The direction and insights he's given for every component of the program, from certain exercises to all my dieting allowed me to cut down 30 lbs in 16 weeks as I near getting in the best shape of my life. The gym is nice, and trainer will also sanitize the equipment before you use it. Been training with Ruston for 6 months and highly recommend both UP and Ruston. I signed up this summer expecting to be training for a few months to get in better shape before my wedding. I've been training at Ultimate Performance with Jenna for the last 12 weeks and it has been the most amazing experience. I was initially resistant to joining because I worried about feeling restricted around food. However, it has been the exact opposite, I feel like I have a lot more freedom now because I have the tools to make healthy choices. I never feel like I have to miss out on a social event to achieve my fitness goals, because Jenna has helped me figure out how to make fitness work for my life. The Ultimate Performance gym is a very friendly and motivating environment. You feel like people there remember you and you're motivated to work harder when surrounded by other people achieving their goals. The facility is easy to park at, which I consider to be super important when you're trying to go somewhere multiple times a week— it's very convenient! The facility also has great amenities both with the workout equipment and the locker room.

I am so happy with the fitness journey I've been able to go on after joining Ultimate Performance. Not only do I feel so much more confident in my body, but I also feel so much more physically fit. I can tell that I have more energy, an easier time with workouts, and am stronger after going through this program. I can really tell how beneficial this has been for my overall health. The workouts and training sessions are genuinely challenging, but Jenna is always super encouraging and I feel accomplished after completing them and look forward to my training.

Some places that promise results like this use fad dieting or an insane workout schedule that would be impossible to replicate after ending the program. Ultimate Performance is not like that at all. I joined UP after my husband raved about it. I was skeptical and a bit intimidated, but figured it was worth a try. After having a baby, I felt like I had lost myself and also developed pretty unhealthy habits (eating takeout, limited exercise, not prioritizing rest, etc.).

I'm now about 5 months in and am SO glad that I took the leap. Initially, I thought I might be out of place as a new mom. But Candace put me at ease right away and validated by goals and concerns. I was also in the process of weaning from breastfeeding and Candace diligently researched how to tailor the program to my specific needs and constantly checked in to ensure everything made sense for me. Keeping up with the nutrition plan and protein goals sometimes felt daunting as a mom who barely had time to shower most days. But Candace was encouraging and helpful, and proactively gave me easy meal ideas. When I struggled due to my baby going through a sleep regression or getting sick, she never made me feel bad about myself and instead proposed solutions to move forward. This really prevented me from losing momentum during tough times. I would not be successful without her unwavering empathy and positive attitude - I can tell she is truly invested in my journey.

I feel so much stronger than I ever have, and have developed muscles I never knew existed. Candace's attention to detail ensures that I perform the exercises properly (and also made me realize how incorrectly I have been working out my whole life!). She is so knowledgeable and is constantly finding ways to push me outside of my comfort zone (in the best way!). I discovered that I'm much stronger than I realized, and she consistently reinforces this and fosters my confidence and growth.

I've been training with Killian, and he has been an incredible partner in my health journey. Killian has my highest recommendation! He pushes me and really take every detail of my progress into consideration as he advises on movement precision and dietary shifts. He is also intuitive and shows patience when I am really working on a challenge. Terrific instruction, and I feel like my form and strength improves every session.

I am going through a number of challenges this year and coming to UP was intended to support me through those changes. I have learned more about my dietary needs for sure. Alfa exceeded all my expectations and helped me achieve results I didn’t think were possible in such a short time. I started training with Felix Achille at Ultimate Performance, Brentwood, in May, not knowing what to expect, but I was blown away by the experience. From the beginning, Felix impressed me with his work ethic, consistency, and genuine care for my progress. At first, I wasn’t sure the kind of transformation he promised was possible. I would’ve been satisfied with just a portion of the results I saw other clients achieve. Updating my review after 1.5+ years of training at Ultimate Performance. I initially had a wonderful experience with my trainer, who decided to part ways with UP. He was the only reason I stayed on at UP for as long as I did. Since his departure, I've experienced nothing but horrible customer service to incredibly loyal, longstanding clients who kindly requested a refund of their program after a material change in the services provided. Instead of honoring the request of longstanding clients and actually abiding by their own Terms & Conditions, regional management has just been giving these longstanding clients (many of whom have made several client referrals whose aggregate customer life time value to UP far exceeds the value of the refund they're requesting) the run around and have left them with hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of sessions withheld. Their LA Regional Manager, Emily, is one of the most unpleasant people I've ever dealt with. Frankly the entire UP experience and business has taken a turn for the worse since the company's buyout. Save your money. There are other great personal training alternatives with superior quality programs, results, competitive pricing, customer service, and human decency.

Especially for women, weight training can oftentimes feel very intimidating and feel like a boys club, but UP makes it gender agnostic and reminds their clients that the key is commitment and accountability. They've fostered a community that is welcoming to all, and when you're on the gym floor that is immediately visible regardless of location. Ultimate Performance has been a godsend for my overall health. I first looked into U.P. a year before I decided that enough time had passed and it was time to do something for myself. Before I started my first day training at U.P., they sent me to the clinic to have bloodwork done and to my surprise I was in range of becoming diabetic. After just 4 months of training with Reggie, I went to get blood work done with my primary physician and I am no longer in range of becoming diabetic. I don’t know where I would be or what I would have become without the guidance of Reggie helping me with every step of the way. I will forever be grateful for U.P. and Reggie for not only teaching me but for being a friend along this journey. I can only speak with the highest of regard about U.P. because of the phenomenal experience I’ve had training here. When walking through the entrance doors you’re immediately greeted with a warm welcome by the other trainers. I originally had planned to do 12 weeks but am now close to completing 36 weeks at this establishment because of the mind blowing results week after week. My experience with Abi as a trainer at UP has been nothing short of transformational, from both a physical standpoint as well as mental. I’ve worked out with many trainers at many gyms throughout the years, and I can honestly say that I never had a trainer as focused, detail-oriented, and dedicated to my specific deficiencies as well as my goals, as Abi has been for me. Most trainers robotically instruct their clients on each exercise until their 60 minutes are over, but Abi is so meticulous when it comes to ensuring that I’m doing every single exercise correctly that I’ve not only noticed incredible results in the mirror and on the scale, but also with overall strength and mobility—even my posture and gait has significantly improved, thanks to her. I’ve been working out at UP Brentwood 3x a week since March and being at the 24 week mark I can say I’m in the best shape ever. I’m down 27 lbs (which I honestly didn’t think I had to lose-boy was I wrong), have halved my body fat %, am stronger than ever- and look it- and have had to get almost every pair of pants I own either tailored or in a smaller size. I was a college athlete so I have always been in and out of the gym and comfortable lifting but these results have been next level. I never thought my body could be this lean. I can honestly say this is the best investment that I have ever made in myself.

My trainer, Gerard, has been the absolute best every step of the way. He pushes me through the tough workouts, adds more weight when he knows I can do it, answers any questions I have along the way, and is fun and personable to chat with in between sets. He always makes me feel included in the process of changing up the workouts and explains why we are doing XYZ, etc. The ability to have constant communication through the app is game changing. He always checks in to see how I’m feeling post workouts and when I miss a few sessions due to travel he is right there along the way through the app making sure I get the workouts in and helping tailor them to hotel gyms. He is fully committed to my progress and always in my corner!

When it comes to nutrition Gerard has been a rockstar. Always has suggestions to make things more manageable- especially when I was just starting and getting used to eating a different way. If I have an “off” day of eating there is never judgement. Always encouragement to do better the next day and helpful tips along the way.

If you want ACTUAL results I cannot recommend UP Brentwood and Gerard enough. Not going to lie, a lot of the responsibility lies with the client to see the real results- especially when it comes to nutrition- but UP, Gerard, and the entire team make it so easy to execute. I will be continuing my training with them!

Joining UP for getting healthy and in shape has been one of the best decisions of my life. I was apprehensive at first whether this is going to work out given that I had history of getting injuries while working out on my own.

But that all went away pretty quick as soon as I started training with Tay. Tay has been an absolutely amazing trainer and a friend who will know your limitations and helps you work around that or overcome that.

NUTRITION: When you join UP, you not only get a trainer who helps you guide in your workouts, but you also get an excellent nutritionist. I am a vegetarian and Tay provided helpful food and recipe suggestions that helped me meet my macros without compromising on calories. Each time I was feeling slightly off, Tay's recommendations on identifying probable causes and correcting my nutrition/supplements helped immediately.

TECHNIQUE: What I loved also is that they focus on optimizing workouts by emphasizing proper form and technique for each exercise, which helps avoid any injuries (I have had none since I started with Tay!) and maximize gains from each rep.

UP APP: One more thing that is awesome about UP is that you stay connected with your trainer in and outside of gym via their app. Tay responds almost immediately to all my bizarre questions and helps me through every situation no matter what time of the day. Their macro monitoring features in UP app are extremely simple to use and track your foods.

Tay is dedicated in ensuring my success and I have nothing by gratitude for it. All the other trainers/staff of UP have also been extremely helpful and accommodating.

If you're reading this review and thinking Ultimate Performance is just a name, think again. This is the real deal, and I bet you'll agree after experiencing it for just a week. This is the best professional gym I've ever seen, with top-notch trainers.

I learned so many simple yet impactful things, like the calorie difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon of oil and its effects on my body. I discovered the best type of shoes to wear during training, how many hours of sleep I need, how much water to drink, and the importance of maintaining the right posture during workouts.

Most importantly, the motivation I get from my trainer Reggie is unparalleled. The best part about Reggie is his dedication to making you comfortable and pushing you to achieve your best during workouts. He even shares his own transformation pictures, which always give me new hope and motivation. Additionally, tracking every data point in a mobile application, as Reggie emphasizes, allows for laser-focused progress monitoring, which makes all the difference. Thanks to him, I've learned a lot and lost nearly 40 pounds in 18 weeks. I look different, feel more active, and have become very disciplined about what I eat. I also look good and feel comfortable in my formals now, and I've gained good muscle.

I'm on week four of my six week program with Ben McKnight as my trainer. He and UP have been the best fitness experience I've had. I'm a 51-year old male who has been in reasonably good shape for 15 years. I run long distances, regularly work out, eat reasonably well, and have belonged to various gyms (including CrossFit, etc.). I felt plateaued, and my wife stumbled upon UP on Instagram and suggested it, so I signed up for the six week program and Ben is my trainer. In just over three weeks, I've lost 13 pounds (7.5% of my body weight) and look and feel materially better. My pants no longer fit. My face is different and I look younger. With Ben's very technical training, in which every exercise seems to activate the entire body, plus the diet plan he put together using UP's great UP Transform app, I know that I will look how I want to look at the end of the six week program, as I can see it already. I’ve been training with Eddie Escobar at Ultimate Performance in Brentwood for 7 months. I’m 34 with a toddler and have tried many other programs and diets to try and take control of my health, but nothing seemed to stick. Eddie has been beyond amazing and lived up to every promise he made on Day 1. I was reluctant to tell him my ‘dream’ body and take the initial photos, but I’m SO glad I did because my transformation has been more than I ever imagined possible. Found this place when looking for "Best personal trainers in LA", and it did not disappoint. After 8 weeks of my 12 week program, I have made drastic changes to my physique and feel better/stronger than ever. My trainer (Mark Bloice) is very knowledgable and a lot of fun to work with. He consistently answers my barrage of questions and continues to push my limits each session. Everyone has a high attention to detail (form, meals, rest times, workout selection, etc.) and it is matched by the thoughtful set-up of the gym. Highly recommend for anyone looking for fast results! Just expect to be tired and hungry for a bit. The initial switch into logging all of your food and keeping your calories low (and protein high) takes some getting used to, but they have great tips and tricks to get you through it.

I recently signed up for a transformation program at Ultimate Performance, Brentwood, and I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience. As someone with no prior experience in regular gym attendance, I was initially hesitant to start a gym membership. However, I decided to take a professional approach and opted for their transformation program.

The gym itself is fantastic. From day one, I've been continuously pushed and challenged during my workouts, but always with the guidance and support of my coach. One of the standout aspects of this program is the quantitative measurement of progress. Every two weeks, I get to see exactly how far I've come in various areas, which is incredibly motivating. The emphasis on calorie counting and macronutrient distribution has been eye-opening. I've learned what types of food affect my weight and, with my coach's help, how to better allocate macronutrients in my meals. It was particularly encouraging to see the level of objective progress just after the first two weeks.

My coach, Candace, has been instrumental in my journey. Despite my lack of experience, she has been incredibly supportive and attentive. Her patience and encouragement have made me feel comfortable and confident in the gym. She goes above and beyond to ensure that I am meeting my goals.

I worked out at UP in the UK 9 years ago and had amazing results. I’d just moved to LA recently and was looking for a gym who did something similar to UP in London. Lucky for me they’re here. And very lucky for me, they’ve gotten even bette than they were before. My trainer, Gabe, and the entire UP team are thoughtful, conscientious, and really really good at their jobs. If you come to UP they’ll build you a great plan, they’ll work with you on nutrition and your exercises (they pay attention to every single rep!), and they’ll listen to what it is you want to achieve. I was fortunate 9 years ago with the trainers I had at UP in London, and I couldn’t be happier with Gabe and the team here again. I moved to LA from Chicago in the beginning of 2024 and was looking to make a drastic lifestyle change and invest in myself. UP was recommended to me by roommate (who achieved insane results) and wanted to look like him. Before I go any further, I have to give a big shout out to my trainer Gabe. He was THE reason I was able to make the transformation I so desperately wanted for years. He’s super passionate and knowledgeable about fitness and taught me many lifelong tips about nutrition, sleep, and training. He always brought the juice to our workouts, even when I wasn’t feeling it that day (especially the Pendulum Squat). I’m very thankful for him pushing me beyond my limits. Along my transformation, he was in constant communication with me (especially when I was out of town on bachelor parties) and was always quick to respond when I had questions about nutrition or training. I started my UP LA, Brentwood journey with my trainer Felix in August 2023 and I can now say I am a totally different person than I was 8 months ago.

I will never forget the past 8 months. What it has taught me, how much stronger, more confident and proud it has made me, and the people I have met and the special relationship I built with my absolute world class trainer, Felix!

I knew from research, reviews, and their track record, UP was next level when it comes to training and PT caliber but I didn’t expect THIS and certainly never thought I could look anything close to the people on their results wall. That wall is powerful and impressive but intimidating at the same time.

I still remember today, the exact moment, when I was sitting in the consultation room the first time and tried to look for a picture to select as my hoped outcome but they all looked so fit that I was scared to pick one as I thought I could never get there.

Now that my main transformation with strict diet and high level of exercise is completed I can say, in the most humbling way, that I look as good or even better than most of the women on that wall I was scared of and secretly aspired to be.

I lost 40lbs and I am as lean as I can be while still looking feminine, healthy and SO strong!

My body has never looked more beautiful than today after two pregnancies and that alone is a testament to Felix and UP.

I could have NEVER achieved this without Felix. My trainer has been phenomenal from day one. He has been there for me on my highs and lows. Pulled me up when I needed to get back on track and focused and supported me when life simply happened and I needed guidance and advice on how to stay on track with my diet.

The daily communications and check-ins also continued when I was traveling out of town or internationally. There was no stopping of supporting getting me to the results we set for myself no matter how far I was from the UP gym or what time zone I was in. When I trained by myself during travels, Felix reviewed my videos of how I executed my exercises, in real time, so I could adjust and perform to the highest levels even without him right next to me. He was there, to review restaurant menu options, when I ate out during travels so I would pick the best options and not mess up my diet.

I was absolutely astonished by the commitment from my trainer and that gives you a whole other level of motivation!

The training sessions at the UP gym with Felix were the most intense I ever experienced but they were the best and most fun I ever experienced as well.
Felix watches me from every angle. Unless my rep is perfect it is not acceptable. The standard is so high that it makes you a perfectionist every time you step foot in that gym.

He taught me so much in the gym and I LOVE going to the gym by myself now to train on my own just like the big guys do lifting their weights. No intimidation anymore of scary looking machines or heavy weight because I GOT THIS!

That feeling is beyond rewarding!

I always dreamed of wearing cropped tops and trust me when I say my new wardrobe now consist of 99% of exactly that! Working out in just leggings and a sports bra has become my new normal…. SAY WHAT?!?!

Jimmy McFarland is the best trainer I could have asked for. He pushes me to (and beyond) my limits, checks in on me regularly (especially when I have a social function or am out of town on a trip), and is constantly encouraging me. When I first began my program, I never imagined I'd be able to achieve what I have and I truly feel like a changed person, from the inside out. What I have gained from training here really cannot be quantified. I can do 4 pull-ups with ease (before I started UP I couldn't even do one and I had honestly convinced myself I'd never be able to); I have muscle definition that I have never had; the way I look at nutrition and exercise (especially strength training) is totally different; I sleep better; I have more energy; I have way more confidence; and most importantly, I am the happiest I have ever been. I'm a "mature woman" who has been a "gym rat" or in a dance studio my entire adult life. I have experience with personal trainers at several LA area well-known gyms. So I can say from all my experience, that UP Brentwood has proven to be the best personal training and head-to-toe program I have ever seen.

I've been training with Killian Yang for just over 5 months and I'm very pleased with my results so far. I've dropped 23 pounds and 2 sizes while firming my whole body. Results are reached because of UP's "head-to-toe" approach with nutrition, motivation, accountability, oversight and yes, teaching excellent techniques in the gym. Killian keeps close tabs on my eating, sleeping and training with encouragement and not with guilt. If I go awry, he is quick to say "that's ok", "no problem" which helps me eagerly get back on track.

From my work-out sessions at UP, I have learned techniques which have improved my approach to gym-training. Killian is so detail-oriented and he communicates perfectly about body position and equipment use which results in effective and safe work-outs.

As "mature women", we know that weight loss, firming and toning is more difficult as we age but the UP program makes it very doable. The nutrition plan is not a diet and the training is not about over-the-top cardio. Rather it is a combination of good healthy eating and effective exercise.

I just want to add that other trainers in the Brentwood UP gym are also friendly and very supportive. The gym-equipment is a superior quality and kept exceptionally clean, as are the locker rooms, showers and ammenities. I love going there !

I have been training with Eddie Escobar at at Ultimate Performance for about 8 months. Eddie’s discipline and support is second to none. He is both no nonsense and encouraging. Eddie has a gift of extreme thoughtfulness and patience to push me to and past my limits, even and especially on the days I show up on the struggle bus.

I have worked with several trainers at other well-known gyms, and I can whole-heartedly say, Eddie and UP belong in a whole other category. The combination of the workout regimen with nutrition, sleep, and continuous tracking of it all, it’s far more than just personal training. I am the strongest I’ve ever been and he got me in 3 months what it took several years with other trainers.

Eddie has also helped me work toward finding balance in my nutrition, in sleep, and leaning into other aspects of self-care. At the end of the day, you have to do the work, and if you do, the results are real. Eddie is a magnificent guide at keeping you accountable and helping you to get the job done.

One final aspect of UP I’d be remiss not to note is that there’s a built in mini community at the gym. Everyone is mostly doing their own thing with their trainer, but you see familiar faces on similar schedules and sometimes when you’re pushing the prowler for the nth time, getting cheered on by other trainees, as well as other trainers is just what you need to hear. I can't recommend Benjamin McKnight enough as a personal trainer! I really appreciate how detail-oriented he is in terms of helping me fine tune both diet and technique in the gym. Updated 2/8: I’m now on my third transformation since 2019 with Ultimate Performance LA. And my conviction that this is the best gym and set of trainers I’ve come across has only been further confirmed.

I’ve had three different trainers over the years that have all brought something different to my training. Currently, I’m working with Eddie Escobar at the Brentwood location. We hit my target BF % in 7 weeks (12%, down from 21.2%), getting as low as 10% in the weeks that followed. I’ve now shifted my goals to try and build more strength/muscle. I’ve never felt or looked better with my 40th birthday just around the corner. When I hit some weight loss plateaus and had issues with stress and sleep, Eddie provided the right guidance, strategy, knowledge and assurances to work through them. Everyone should hope to have a trainer like Eddie.

I can’t say enough about what Nick Mitchell has built. The UP trainers are knowledgeable, encouraging and supportive while holding you accountable. They give you the tools, but make no mistake, YOU have to do the work. You won’t see anyone on the gym floor with a cell phone, just clients and trainers putting in the work. As someone extremely frustrated by most commercial gyms, Ultimate Performance exceeds all expectations. It is well worth the cost. The proof is in the pudding, and the transformations you see online are real (I’ve now done it three times!). I can’t possibly recommend UP enough.

Hello, my name is Edward & I’ve been going to Ultimate Performance for almost 9 months. The journey has been amazing & will continue. My trainer, Eddie Escobar is the most amazing trainer I have had in my life. He is so caring, nice, calm, motivational, inspirational, & goal driven. He has helped me lose about 45 pounds & still continues to transform me. He definitely gets all the credit! To be honest, to me, from watching all the trainers train their clients, he’s the best one. He is always on top of his game and knows exactly what to do to help you understand the exercise correctly. I am proud to be trained by him 3 times a week, every week.

The gym itself is very nice, clean, and you get the feeling of safety when you’re there with your personal trainer. I’ve been to a couple of high end gyms, and had personal trainers there, but they did not transform me as fast and as easily as Ultimate Performance. I am a proud member of this gym. I wouldn’t recommend another.

I started off at this gym at 220 pounds and the lowest I’ve been has been 173 pounds. I mean, incredible right? In only 8 months! To be honest, before I started I had a gastric sleeve surgery 5 months prior to my starting date at ultimate performance. After the first 4 months of surgery, I was down 40 pounds. I was at 250 pounds prior to surgery and I went down to 210 pounds. But on the 5th month post surgery, I gained 10 pounds back and was feeling hopeless and miserable. I realized it’s time to put in some hard work, so I joined Ultimate Performance in the hopes of becoming 5% body fat. Well after almost 9 months I went from 30% body fat to 17.5% body fat. I will continue going to this gym until I am 5% body fat and after that I will most likely stay at this gym to grow bigger muscles.

I also want to thank the founder of Ultimate Performance, Nick Mitchell, for starting this amazing gym full of the most educated personal trainers. The gym truly does stand up to the words “Worlds leading Personal Trainers”. I see him at times at the Brentwood location where I go and he is very inspirational to me by just being himself and training hard.

They can seem too good to be true, but my trainer Julian Leano and I achieved the results as advertised. I went from 176 to 158lbs in 12 weeks and achieved the six pack I never had in my 37 years of existence. I signed up for another year and hope to add ten pounds of muscle while maintaining a lean aesthetic physique. If you’re hoping to transform your appearance, confidence, discipline, and lifestyle, this is the place to do it!

PS- Julian is great at accommodating injury and limited range of motion into the training plan. I struggle with a shoulder injury and have had poor mobility/flexibility my whole life. We’re actively working to improve on all this while working on our lifts.

Here’s the long version, for those that want to know WHY:
I’d been in pretty good shape my whole life, but over the last few years I’d worked out only once or twice. I wasn’t myself, and I needed help to get out of my rut. Some friends referred me to UP and had glowing things to say about it, so I reached out and took the leap. I had never worked with a personal trainer, so it was a very new experience. However, I’d also never felt this physically weak, so everything was new. The first day was tough – facing photos of how I looked, not being able to lift very much, only getting in a few reps before shaking, and doing it in an unfamiliar place with people I didn’t know. While I struggled for a bit with feeling “less than” I wanted to be, other things made each day a better day – I built a great relationship with Gerard (my trainer), and began to enjoy coming back to see the dedicated, fun, and kind people that work and train there. Pretty quickly, the work was paying off and I can’t remember the person I was just 3 months ago. At one point, I got sick and had to miss a week of training. When I got back to the gym, I was overwhelmed by how much I had missed it. I never expected to feel that way, but then I stopped to think and it all made sense. Gerard does an amazing job of tailoring everything to what’s best for me. Every client must be so different, so I recognize and appreciate the skill it takes to get the most out of each of us. I have been working with Ben McKnight at Ultimate Performance for three months. I have worked out for over 30 years, either independently or through crossfit or other programs and had historically been able to keep in my desired fitness/weight range. In my early fifties the weight started to pack on and I realized that I was no longer able to reach my goals independently. This gym is insane! Not to sound like spon-con but the results are genuinely undeniable; I signed up because several friends had, without warning, become totally shredded over the summer and it turns out this was why. Obviously I too needed to become totally shredded. Choosing Ultimate Performance has been the best decision I have made in a long time. This is unlike any training program I have ever done. After many failed attempts of getting in shape on my own, I realized the missing piece: Accountability. I could never hold myself accountable or push myself to the lengths that I do with the guidance of Gerard (more on him shortly -- spoiler: he is incredible!). Ultimate Performance takes you every step of the way, from strength training, to meal planning, to check-ins, to an app with updates on your progress and connection to your trainer.
I think what I like most about this program, is that it is easier than if I did it myself. Don't get me wrong, you will work harder than you thought possible -- but the program takes the guesswork out of the whole process. I have a pretty busy schedule and I feel like it's one thing off my plate to think about. I follow what Gerard tells me (from workout to diet), and I lose weight. boom. I don't have to think about counting reps, or trying to figure out what my body is responding to, or even figuring out a workout plan -- all of it is done for you. They give you the action and you do it. It IS pricy, but 100% worth it.
Now onto Gerard:
I am so lucky to have been paired up with him. He is so wonderfully knowledgeable, nice, and motivating. He can joke around and make you feel at ease, which is important to me because this whole process is incredibly humbling. He is accommodating and adjusts to what I need on any given day and pushes me harder than I would on my own. Gerard is fantastic and you should definitely request for him as your trainer.

Efficient outsized results: The answer to the question of why would you invest this amount of money?! There is no true magic. You have to do the hard work. The "magic" is in their system, expertise, controls, and data. It's analogous to going to the Mayo Clinic for a major medical issue except this is for body transformation and general health. You see it in the exercise program expertise, guidance on and tracking of diet, and system controls they've developed for their trainers. Yes its a very successful system. It is also individualized for you the specific client.

Accountability: Another answer to why would you spend this amount for fitness? You are reminded and encouraged. You look at the data/evidence in personal photos and graphs - frequently. Ultimately you have to do the work physically and in your diet. They have an accountability framework that shows quick success. This breeds more success. Yet there is flexibility if scheduling around diets and workouts needs to be changed temporarily for external reasons.

Injury Prevention: Another answer to why you want to work with this high level of expertise. Nearly 1 year with no soft tissue injuries of significance that prevented working out. In the past this has interrupted workout routines significantly for me. Bravo!

Results you won't achieve on your own. Tony Spear in Brentwood has been excellent. And with a passion for data and muscle mechanics. The other trainers I observe are also excellent. Tony worked with an early 60's body lacking a genetic predisposition to build lots of muscle. Results: According to an InBody impedance test before the start and after nearly 1 year: Body fat % declined from 29.3 to 12.7. Lean muscle mass increased 8.8 Lbs and body fat mass decreased by 19.7 Lbs. Personal goals have been exceeded.

He checks in with me every day and makes sure all is well and that I have everything I need to conquer the day. I’ve recommended the program to several pals already. Ultimate Performance is the only gym I’d recommend to anybody serious about getting healthier, stronger, and losing weight. They provide the most in depth, individually catered training program for your body and abilities as well as a totally private experience. I’ve never seen more than 5 clients working out at the same time. UP trainers focus on proper form, consistently demonstrating how to do the exercise right to ensure that all of your muscles are working and to prevent injury. My trainer Jeff always takes into account my body’s conditions and allows me the time to recover after each set. I deeply appreciate how much effort he puts into my training journey and that he does so with an air of levity. I can confirm that the photos are real results and not photoshopped. My trainer Irina has been great - she’s accessible for questions when I need her and helps me set realistic goals while keeping me accountable. I’ve had great results and am very happy with my experience, but this isn’t for everyone. You need to be willing to invest the time and energy in sticking to the plan your trainer sets for you, otherwise you’re not going to see results and will waste your money. It’s definitely pricey but for me that was a motivator to make sure I was doing everything Irina prescribed. A lot of the results are due to diet as well so be prepared to make some notable changes and to count calories/macros. I would recommend this for anyone serious about getting in shape and who wants to lean how to weight train with the right form - their hours are flexible and I was able to fit this in despite having a busy work schedule. As a heads up, there’s usually a waitlist (at least when I did my consult) so if you’re even thinking about it, go check them out now as it may be a couple of weeks before you actually begin your sessions.

I have been going to the gym for most of my life, but after a total shoulder replacement lost some of my motivation and drive, causing me to gain a bit of weight. I did a lot of research looking for a personal trainer that I felt could spark that drive and fire in me again. In that search, I came across Ultimate Performance. I saw the many client before and after pics and testimonials and was intrigued. After my initial consultation, I was sold. I was paired with my trainer Gavin Regnery. Gavin is f'n amazing. I feel that he's as committed to me achieving my goal as I am. Like I said, I have been working out with weights most of my life, BUT it wasn't until I started training with Gavin, that I actually was LIFTING weights.
My results have been quick as I follow exactly what I'm told to do as Gavin holds me accountable. He has also been correcting bad form that I developed from having been injured causing me to overcompensate on one side or the other.
I can't say enough things about Ultimate Performance and Gavin. In fact all the trainers there that I see training their clients are just as dedicated as Gavin is to me. I have also witnessed the trainers training themselves and believe me, they practice what they preach!!.

Chris Weatherholtz and the team at Ultimate Performance Los Angeles have been an absolute pleasure to work with. I have always been a consistent gym-goer and "low calorie" consumer. I was in a 2 year long plateau before signing up for UP to train with Chris. I've been training here for about 2 months - I had been lifting for a couple years but had reinjured my torn labrum which kept me out of the gym for months. I decided to train here with Julian and he's been great. I hadn't flat barbell benched in years due to worries about my shoulder, but Julian showed me the form to not reaggravate it. I always have a ton of questions about form especially in regards to bigger movements like squat and deadlifts and Julian has been exceptional in not only showing me the correct form, but also what I'm currently not doing correctly.

And what an incredible training gym + program UP is. The facility is sparkling, clean, with top of the line equipment. Your trainer and other trainers train there as well, so you're never lacking for inspiration. They have a convenient app which makes logging macros, sleep, water, etc. easy and holds you accountable.

The results and the joy of the process speak for themselves. When I came to UP, I wasn't in the best health... mentally or physically. I had broken my leg, my injury had healed with a malrotation, and I was unsure whether I could ever run or jump again without undergoing a painful surgery. Additionally, I had put on a lot of weight. I felt pretty alienated from my body.

From Day 1 working with my trainer Julian, I knew my experience at UP would be transformative. He took the time to understand my injury and worked carefully both explaining and adapting the exercises to accommodate my leg. His insistence on good posture ensured I remained safe while learning to deadlift, squat, and bench-press. And his attention to my form each session, ensured that I had the knowledge to not only do the exercises correctly, but self-diagnose my own bad habits.

Training with Julian was like the best combination of teacher, coach, and inspirer. I felt pushed to my limit each session. And even on the days I wasn't at UP, Julian would check in on my diet, my step count, or any concerns that arose in my nutrition or exercise.

Throughout my training, I lost over 26 pounds, regained the ability to jump, can run over two miles, and can now do about 8 pullups with 15 pounds of weight strapped on. I came to UP with the hope that I could overcome my injury, I instead found myself stronger, fitter, and healthier than ever before.

On the vanity side of thing...I now have a six pack, well built pecs, and a pyramid back.

My time at UP has left me in such a better state mentally and physically. And I know I can carry the nutritional habits and workout routines onward in a sustainable fashion. I highly recommend Julian. He is inspirational, he cares about his clients, and he is a highly knowledgeable and excellent teacher. I’ve had several personal trainers in the past and none have ever measured up to Gerard — he is super attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, and definitely knows how to push my limits! After turning 50 and gaining some pounds during the pandemic, due to the gym closures and cancelling my Equinox membership... I came to Ultimate Performance with the goal to get back into better shape than ever before. I've had trainers before, but wanted to make sure that I was accountable for my training and healthy habits moving forward.

I travel a lot so I needed something that I can do on the road as well as when at home, but most of all track my progress.

Ultimate Performance's program was the right choice.. I have been working with Kurt, my trainer for about 4 months and have lost over 25lbs and over 10% body fat, but gained muscle back.

This is even through the Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE parties!

I and am the lightest and strongest than I have been since my college athletic days!

The program has many aspects that make it easy to follow and also accountable as your trainer is monitoring it daily, and they will text you if you are falling a bit behind. They provide proper training and technique, so you can take what you have learned and continue outside the program.

You and your trainer are in constant communication with the UP App. This is where you log and track your meals that are then tracked along with your nutrition program. As well as tracking your daily required steps and hydration.

It's a great way to keep you accountable, but most of all makes you learn what proper eating habits and meals are, and the consequences when you have a few too many drinks or pizza slices one night. I have learned more about how my body reacts to traveling, eating, drinking and fatigue.

The results I have seen so far are worth the work and costs, as I am the strongest I have been in a long time and feel so good. Even though the struggle and work are real, its worth the results.

As an athlete in a past life, I have very high expectations for anyone that I was going to pay to train me. At a minimum, in addition to weights, I expect a plan to include nutrition, hydration, aerobic exercises, sleep and flexibility. And I expect that plan to be tailored to my goals and capabilities while taking safety seriously. All of that is just the basics. They met all of that as their default, so yeah, I recommend them highly.

-Tailored to you over cookie cutter routines.
-Accountability over nagging.
-Exercise adjustments and fine tuning over a paid rep counter.

-Modern biomechanical knowledge over antiquated unproven notions.

I signed up at UP in early November and they got me started from the waiting list right after Thanksgiving (perfect timing). I was incredibly hyped to start this program and begin my transformation. After 3 months into the program just about to finish my last session (although I may extend after my vacation) I have lost about 30 lbs. I'm in my early 40's and after covid just couldn't get out of a rut. The changes were dramatic and took lots of work, and dedication. I'm truly grateful for my trainer Alicia Reyes and the UP Team for everything they put in their process to benefit others. I actually drove from Orange County 3 times a week (ya'll need an OC location btw) and the effort was well worth it. Alicia was always supportive, patient and positive. She consistently checked up on me on the UP app at all times and was consistent about my form.

Tips if you are going to sign up
- Sign up for the Meal prep service they recommend before the training begins. They recommended me Macro plate which I started halfway through the program and it made a world of a difference. Although after my vacay I may try their paleo plan instead of the low carb plan.

- The app is awesome. USE IT RELIGIOUSLY. Follow their IG page and also Nick Mitchell's page. It was very supportive.

- invest in some good flat shoes. I think this deserves to be a great article from UP and could have some ad revenue / affiliate link potential. I never did this and I wish I did before attending my first class.

- Be ready to be focused and dedicated to yourself. You deserve it. If your dog was sick you'd probably spend 15k on a surgery. The least you could do is invest in your own health so you can be alive to pay for your dogs surgery!

It really does lay the foundation and tone for the rest of the journey. From there on, the program is very efficient and effective and you just need to follow the recipe they layout, stick with it, put in the hard work, and enjoy the progress, and you'll not be disappointed. It's been an amazing transformation. One of the most effective tools is having the UP Transform app integrated with iPhone and iWatch to conveniently track daily weight, sleep, meals (macros) steps/activity, hydration, and issues, plus all of your workouts programs, body composition and skinfold measurements, etc. Having all there in one place is critical and removes any obstacles and excuses. Additionally, it was recommended to get on a meal delivery program (Macro Plate), which I think was a major contributor to my success it made navigating my nutrition needs a breeze.

Sean and the rest of the team are top-notch, very knowledgeable, enjoy what they do, and take their role seriously. Very professional and focused on the client and the results. I'm very analytical and like to gain a better understanding of the methods, the technique, etc. and Sean was always able to explain and provide a educated answer and always a great resource for helping navigate challenging situations. Specifically, I had pre-existing knee and elbow injuries and we were able to modify and adapt various exercises to avoid re-injuring or causing pain, while still progressing through the program and getting results. Additionally, he was very knowledgeable about the nutrition and diet side of the program and helped customize a plan that worked for me and the program, educate me on the science behind why it works, and helped me plan for and navigate difficult situations like vacations, dinner parties, events, etc., while staying on track toward our goals. It was easy, but I'm sure without him as a partner through this, I wouldn't have achieved these outcomes.

Ultimately, UP has helped create the healthy habits and routines that enabled the space and time in the day and week to focus on the specific goals and priorities that have resulted in significantly improved energy levels, reduced stress and anxiety, or improved capability of performing well under high-levels of stress (let's face it life happens) and this has helped me immensely with being able to manage stress much better, increased my confidence, improved my well-being and just feeling healthier, and really the looking good part is the outcome of executing on all aspects of the program.

For me it's been a great education on how my mind and body handle changes in nutrition and diet, hydration, physical activities, and sleep and opened my eyes to how important and interrelated those different elements are to achieving a high functioning and performing state.

I first found UP appealing because it had the structure I felt I needed to really accomplish my goals and really was driven by a mission of putting it's clients first. I am now at my 2-month mark since joining UP, and I am well on my way towards my goals. I think one of the many big factors that sets UP apart is the accountability portion of the program and the regular support and check-ins you receive from your trainer. The program not only pushes you towards achieving your physical body goals, but also focuses on making healthy food choices, monitoring your water intake and getting daily movement in any way you can among other things. I think the latter part is so important to the sustainability afterwards; it really becomes a change in lifestyle. I've been working with my trainer Alicia who I couldn't recommend enough! She pushes me to complete the work-out and go up in weight, while cheering me on when I complete a hard circuit. She is extremely supportive of my journey, and I would recommend her to anyone joining UP in the future.

I've been working out at UP for almost two months, and it has been transformative in many ways. I feel physically and mentally stronger. I've also learned a lot about diet, water intake, and sleep, as well as ways to motivate myself in and out of the gym.

My trainer Jeffrey has pushed me with a combination of tough love and positive reinforcement. He answers my questions thoughtfully and checks in on my progress. I've also worked with other UP trainers when my trainer has been out, and they've uniformly been knowledgeable and supportive.

As you'd expect, you'll get more out of your experience if you put in the energy and effort. But in this case, the results are largely in your control. I remember my trainer telling me on day 1, "If you do everything we ask, you should get to this point in 12 weeks." You actually can't say that about many areas of life.

If you're ready to make a change in your health, I highly recommend UP.

I just finished 27 weeks with UP and can't speak highly enough about the program and the trainers. My personal trainer, KeAndre took the time to ask questions, listen to my goals, concerns and answer my questions before we started. I had never joined any gym or done any weight lifting before and KeAndre was patient while I learned proper techniques and methods. While you train, the trainers aren't looking at their phones and they give you their undivided attention. The work doesn't stop in the gym either. You monitor your food and activity outside and that is a huge key in succeeding in this program. I felt the communication was probably the biggest driver to succeeding with UP. KeAndre asked all the right questions, and when I asked him questions he wasn't sure about, he'd do his research and get back to me the same day whether about diet, possible injuries or exercises to do outside of our sessions. All the trainers are friendly and say hello and make you feel like you are welcome. This isn't a place to go to see and be seen. This really is a results driven program where the trainers guide you to achieving your goals.

Becoming a client at Ultimate Performance has been one of the most positive and life-altering decisions that I have ever made.

For years I have struggled with my weight due to an inability and fear to be active due to genetic physical limitations. I have always given up on trainers because I either didn't trust that they were understanding of those limitations and the pain I tolerate on a day-to-day basis, or were unwilling to work with me to find exercises that not only I could do, but helped strengthen the rest of my body in a way that would eventually alleviate some of that pain. Most training programs that I found didn't have the day-to-day support that I received at U.P. in terms of the nutrition and other necessary work required outside of the gym which was an area I have struggled with to personally motivate myself as well. Additionally, U.P. made it incredibly easy to find the time for myself in fast-paced and work-oriented lifestyle that is hard to find with most other gyms and/or programs.

I have had the privilege of working with Kurt at the Brentwood location and I will never cease to sing his praises. His patience and understanding of my unique situation kept me motivated and determined and I never once felt alone on my journey. He was creative and caring in designing a program that fit my needs, and, for someone like me that doesn't particularly enjoy working out, Kurt made our sessions a fun and delightful experience week after week. I couldn't have asked for a better match.

In just a matter of months, I have steadily and healthily lost upwards of 30 pounds. Though I unfortunately am not able to continue to work at U.P. due to an out-of-state move, I am grateful for the habits Ultimate Performance and Kurt have helped me develop along with providing me with an arsenal of tools that I will continue to utilize in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.

I've had many starts and stops in the gym over the years and I can now say, having worked with Ultimate Performance for 6 months, that my entire relationship with the gym AND my body has totally changed. Overall I'm stronger and more confident, both inside and outside of the gym and I've already lost almost 10% body fat which is great because I was for sure TOFI, "thin on the outside, fat on the inside."

I started training at UP for a lot of reasons, but primarily because I was pretty depressed -- something I've battled in one way or another for much of my life. The idea of looking better than I ever have was a nice bonus, sure, but I know how closely tied physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing truly are, and I hit a point where I wanted to be at my peak in all three.

Prior, I was waking up late every day, beyond tired and after multiple alarms. I never had an appetite. My diet was basically a morning coffee for the caffeine shock, and then sometimes an entire pizza after a long, unintentional fast. I worked from my couch and my output suffered. My attitude and dating life suffered.

It took a while to convince myself that I could do something differently, but when I committed to myself, I knew that if I was going to really give my all and spend this kind of cash, I wasn't willing to settle for anything less than the best training I could find.

I did immense amounts of research, and I can confidently say there is not a more scientific, data-driven program that exists. Everything (sleep, steps, meals, water intake, weight, reps, routine, etc) is tracked to be able to analyze and adjust, and to instill accountability and discipline. I take progress pics every week (which are blowing my mind at this point), and do 19-point body fat caliper measurements to see exactly how my body is changing. (Look at the transformations. They're real.)

I've gone from 21.8% to 7.9% body fat in three months, now putting on muscle and maintaining that percentage. I'm lean, and I'm proud. I'm hungry at a healthy cadence, I eat cleanly and love it, nutritional tracking has become second nature, and I've learned proper form/routine across a wide variety of exercises that take care of my entire body. I'm disciplined, and I know that all of these skills and knowledge will be with me for the rest of my life.

There are marked differences around my mental/emotional well-being, too: My energy levels are significantly higher. For at least the last two months, I've woken up without an alarm without fail, generally eager to eat and get started on my day. My job -- which is very stressful at times and demands great mental rigor -- has become more manageable. And while I still do get hit with sadness spells here and there, they're less arbitrary, and I'm far better equipped to power through them.

I should talk about UP's staff, as well. Every single trainer is unbelievably skilled (I've trained with several when mine had to take a little time due to a personal emergency) -- and they're all clearly passionate about what they do. I have to give a special shoutout, though, to Abigail Jachera, whom I've been fortunate to train with directly. I'm convinced she's exactly the right coach for me, given my (and her) demeanor, constraints, and goals. I'm very grateful for the thoughtfulness that was put into matching us.

This is a woman who was a professional ballerina, with a background in biology and endocrinology, and with voluminous knowledge of physical fitness. Her energy is infectious, she knows just how hard to push and motivate me (without turning me off), and she's deeply informed. I've never had a question about my program she was unable to answer (or find an answer to), and I know I can trust her entirely in her guidance. She's appropriately mindful of some weird physical quirks I have, and she knows exactly how and why each movement is impacting specific areas of my body. She's reliable, considerate, and responsive. She puts in the time and effort to the same extent that I do. I can tell that she deeply cares about me and my results.

Abi is also authentic to herself as a human, and at this point, I consider her a friend. I'm optimistic this is a relationship I'll carry with me well beyond my time at UP.

I never write reviews, but I'm doing it this time because UP has improved my life at the most foundational levels, and I'm hopeful I can maybe pay that forward.

It’s said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. It’s entirely true, but what isn’t discussed nearly enough is how critical it is to have a GUIDE with you along such a journey. In my case, that guide was my personal trainer at UP Fitness, Chris Weatherholtz, who I have been training under for the past 36 weeks and counting.

I came to Chris with the following baggage: I was a sleep-deprived (though I didn’t know it), self-employed 43-year old attorney, father of 2, living in Orange County, weighing in at 153 lbs, with a staggering 34% body fat measurement. I had a sore left shoulder, mild asthma, suffered for 20 years from a respiratory disease called AERD (which is associated with tremendous amounts of inflammation), I did not (have time to) exercise, carried a gut, could not do a single chin up, had never been inside a gym in the previous 8 years, and, quite frankly, was not bothered by most of this. The only things that bothered me was that despite my best efforts, I could not lose my gut. And the main thing that bothered me was that I could not keep up with my two young daughters. I would get winded before them while playing with them, and I could not hold them for as long as they asked. That feeling always killed me inside, but “Hey, there’s only so much time in a day, and the ‘dad bod’ was just bound to be, right?” A busy work lifestyle, eating/drinking at social gatherings, family commitments, the list is endless, I know you get it…

What I soon came to learn is that UP employs and trains the world’s greatest personal trainers, and Chris Weatherholtz is basically a Jedi Knight. He is extremely knowledgeable, incredibly patient, but above all, just knows his stuff and makes it his job to know yours. Under his constant watch (and I mean constant!), he miraculously increased my sleep from 3.5 hours a night to 6 hours. He increased my water intake from 4 glasses a day to over 3 liters a day. He increased my average daily steps from 1 mile a day (2,000 steps) to over 5 miles a day (10,000 steps). He did his Houdini magic on my gut, bringing my waist down from a size 34 to a size 26 (hint: reserve sufficient funds for wardrobe changes along your journey), and shredding over 30 pounds of pure fat from my skin and making it disappear. He straps on 25-pound weights to my waist, after I’ve already given him 20 pull-ups, and then knows what I don't even know, "You got 6 more in the tank." I am now at record lows in cholesterol, record highs on my pulmonary function tests, and he has eradicated by all measure any prior feelings of left shoulder pain I ever had.

My kids know Chris as the “bad guy” who watches over what their dad eats and drinks, and makes sure he gets to sleep on time. But the truth is Chris gave me something that they say no one can give you: time. Not only did he help me to find/make time in my day to do all of this (which I thought was impossible), but he also gave me back years into my life. I am the strongest I have ever been in my life, the most energetic I have ever felt, the happiest that I can remember. The scary part is UP reminds you that this is just the beginning, there are no upper limits.

Today, my kids get winded before me – and that’s the way it should be. I can only thank Chris by giving him more of what he alone knows that I still have inside of me.

I used to detest gyms and working out. I would poke fun at friends who would count calories and log meals into an app. And here I am today, driving 200 miles a week just to spend 2 hours with my trainer. That is how good Chris is, and this is coming from a lawyer who bills by the hour. (They don’t have an UP Fitness in OC yet!)

Nothing is more valuable than your health. UP Fitness easily is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life and yet the best decisions I have ever made.

Starting in my mid-40's, I started noticing changes in my body. A lot had to do with perimenopause and my sluggish metabolism. I had severe swelling in my lower body and joint pain. I knew I needed to make a drastic change to do something about my health.

Over the last 9 months, my trainer, Chris Weatherholtz, has really helped me with my transformation. Since starting the program, I've lost 20 pounds and 7.5% body fat. I lowered my cholesterol from 238 to 183. My LDL went from 160 to 116. But more than that, he helped me change my daily habits around eating, sleeping, being active and being disciplined. Before I joined UP, I was averaging about 4000 steps daily. Now, I average about 12000 steps/day. Since I've followed their nutritional coaching plan, I've been eating very clean. My skin has cleared up, I sleep better, I'm in a better mood and I don't retain as much water. I can now tuck in shirts into my pants. My whole life I've had an apple shaped body with a bigger midsection. It is the first time that I show off my waist. Losing the stubborn baby weight has really boosted my confidence. I've also gotten stronger because I eat more protein and do weight training. The UP program is great for busy working professionals or parents who don't have a lot of time but want results.
