What an awesome Olympic Weightlifting training center. I dropped in this week while I was in town. Nez was super inviting and so were the weightlifting (Donald), powerlifting (Chris) coaches, and other members of the gym. Can't wait to come back to San Diego to visit and lift. If I lived here this would absolutely be my home training center! Keep up the great work!

This place is awesome. Great weightlifting/powerlifting equipment. The best part, apart from a great facility/hours, is the people. I was dropping in while home visiting family and everyone was so cool and welcoming. The owner was so warm and friendly and all of the trainers were really cool. Whether you're a beginner looking to get into barbell sports or a veteran looking for a great place to train, this is the spot. I traveled from San Marcos to come here specifically. If I lived here long-term this would be my home gym. Check this place out!

I’m visiting friends in SD and glad to get my trainings in at Validus during Christmas. They have pretty much everything needed for powerlifting & weightlifting. Nez is very nice and helpful. Would come back again!

I am in the market looking for a new gym to lift at because I moved here from Sacramento. I found this place and it seemed to have good reviews, however, before physically being in the gym, the customer service I received was incredibly discouraging. They do not advertise class times or pricing because they want you to come in for the consultation/conversation first. I went ahead and booked the consultation because I wanted to give it a try. I called the gym this evening to get some sort of idea about class times and/or pricing because I didn’t want to go through the entire process only to find out 1) there were no class times that worked with my schedule and/or 2) get all excited only to find out it doesn’t work with my budget. The response I received was “it’s just easier to explain in person and I have someone doing a deadlift in front of me, but I am not giving them my attention.” While I understand giving your clients your attention, I didn’t ask you to pick up the phone while you were coaching. So how was this my fault? The call dropped before I could provide my feedback to the person I spoke to, but if the public’s opinion matters at all to the growth of your business, I would like to say that providing more information up front will help customers feel more welcome and comfortable moving forward with your business. Additionally, not making potential customers feel guilty because they’re seeking information. Unfortunately, the gym went ahead and cancelled my consultation after the phone call, which only tells me I dodged a bullet when it comes to my weightlifting experience. I will be taking my business elsewhere, but hope this business listens to the public and greets new customers with more respect.

Horrible customer service at this place. The staff made me feel unwelcome and unwanted when I walked in for the first time ever. 2 staff members made me feel like I was bothering them when I told them I was here their for my sons session. I was told I didn't book anything and then silence. Neither staff member tried to look at the computer and check if there was anything scheduled Just told me there was nothing was scheduled. I was then told I probably booked at another gym and that was it. No trying to schedule me something for another day no asking my name and info to see what the problem was just them watching me and my money walk out the door.

Dropped in for a week, and Rob and Nez were very welcoming. Their gym satisfies both power and weightlifting. The facility is clean and the equipment is good. Highly recommended for a drop in or membership, Validus is definitely one of the top gyms in SD.

I've been wanting to get into barbell training for years but never knew where to start. I started at Validus with Coach Nez last year and it's the best thing I've done for myself in a long time. In the beginning she worked with me to get the basic techniques down and spent time making sure I felt comfortable with all the movements. Now that I've been going for 8 months she helps me with refining that technique and making sure I'm moving in the right direction. She also works with me and my schedule to help me maximize my training time. The environment at the gym is amazing. Everyone is super friendly and encouraging.

If you have a desire to improve your skills in either Powerlifting or Olympic Weightlifting, I cannot recommend Validus enough. Coming from experience at various other gyms, this has been the only one where I've received genuine coaching, been provided with individualized programming, and given tips, cues, advice specifically for me and for that day of training. Rob and Nez, the owners, unceasingly express their care and desire of success for each and every member, both as athletes and as persons. There is nothing bad to be said about this place, especially since its right next door to Daiso...

It starts with the owners. Rob and Nez are two fantastic people who run an incredible gym. Whether you want to train in Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting or just want a great general strength and fitness program, you are in good hands with them. The facility is clean, the equipment is top notch and the community there is awesome. I have never looked back once since I started at Validus. Highly recommend checking it out.

If you are looking to get into powerlifting or Olympic lifting or looking for a new weightlifting gym, Validus is a gym to check out. They have a great setup with a lot of top-notch equipment from kilo plates to bumper plates. No matter your experience level, you are treated like an equal, and the coaches give you constructive feedback on your form and technique to help you be a better lifter and maximize your potential without risking injury. If you are looking for a gym to feel like a second home, then Validus should be your second home for working out and feeling like a part of a team regardless of your experience level. I'll be back for another workout very soon.

Before coming here, I wanted to find a reason to not like it so that I would save my money. But as soon as I walked in Nez and Robert were super friendly. They answered all my questions and even let me workout passed the consultation. Robert is great to work with and the other members of the gym are fun to be around. They have all the equipment that my original gym lacked for Olympic weightlifting such as Olympic bars and the smaller increment weights.

Serious and well equipped is fair assessment Validus. There are plenty of gym fads that come and go trying to empty people’s wallets but strength training is not one of them and has been around for centuries. Nez and Robert are solid coaches who are willing to work with people at all levels and offer a solid environment who are serious about their gains. I will say that this is not a place that you “stop by and try out” casually, it is a commitment that you will need to make that will reward you well long term.

Prime facility where you're not just a number.
This is a no bs well equipped facility with an awesome staff. You will feel welcomed and comfortable from the very first step in. Even though there is elite equipment and experienced athletes training there it is still a place for beginners. Finding a place to lift isn't too difficult with some many gyms around, but finding a place you enjoy training in and feel at home is a different story. Here you will find just that, lift in an enjoyable environment.
The experience at Validus is great and so is the equipment. As a weightlifter there are certain things I look for, i.e platforms, kilo bumper plates, jerk blocks, and a place to do jerk recoveries. Validus provides all of that in abundance. On top of that now my recovery has been taken one step forward with the normatec system they have. Having a massage therapist that knows how to fix athletes is also highly important.
The owners are amazing people and this gym is everything anyone could want. Don't think about coming here, just do it. You will not regret it at all.
