Love this place. I could have gone for a for profit gym, but the Y is so much better. The staff are first rate, the pools are clean and well supervised, the men' locker room is always clean. I use the exercise equipment on the second floor; clean, well maintained and never crowded.

Pros: onsite day care so parents can go work out. Good selection of cardio equipment. Nice size swimming pool with open swim hours.
Cons: few staff are professional while others young ones including on-call managers needs additional training. Small and lack of weight room equipment.
Is it good for the price you pay? Depending on your situation. I'd say as a parent this is a good temporary solution. But I'd rather pay more for better service and equipment elsewhere.

The gym is awesome but their offsite childcare is bad. I remember when Julie was in charge it was the worst. Always short staffed and made workers come to work even when they requested time off in advance.

Good Y. Very clean. Pool is nice, can get a lane as long as there is no class. Polite helpful staff. Cancel early! 2 months before you are going to stop! I cancelled today, my last day. Bad move. They are going to charge me for my next payment which is 3 weeks away and covers the next month. So I'm paying for 7 weeks that I won't use it. Seems unnecessarily harsh

As a dedicated member for over 7 years, I'm consistently impressed by Ventura YMCA. The friendly and professional staff create a welcoming atmosphere, and their responsiveness to queries is commendable. The adaptive class offerings, well-maintained gym equipment, and pristine indoor pools enhance the overall experience. What sets it apart is the reasonable membership rates, making quality fitness accessible. The ongoing facility updates reflect a commitment to excellence. Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend Ventura YMCA for a top-notch family gym experience.

Been a member of the Ventura Y for a few years and have enjoyed going here. They have a variety of machines to choose from, as well as classes, that can provide you with an efficient workout. There are also lots of programs/activities for kids and families to participate in throughout the year.
Brian (membership director) and the rest of the staff at the welcome center are always friendly and are more than willing to interact with members.
The overall environment and experience here has definitely made me enjoy being a member at the YMCA over any other place.

I grew up attending this Y as a kid (learned to swim at the Ventura Y). The Y has a great family-friendly atmosphere and has a variety of group ex classes, machines and programs for all ages. Excellent masterβs swim program. The Y is very committed to helping the community.

Disappointing. They remove and replace equipment without notification or talking to members. I went to use a machine today , a machine that i have used eveyday after becoming a member and It was gone.....Kinda unprofessional for a gym. The Y is a solid family gym. But definitely cater to people that actually dont want to work out. I will be looking elsewhere.

I love this YMCA. The gym is well-equipped, they offer a fantastic number of group classes and its very near where I live. The only complaint I have is that I rarely feel welcomed when I initially check in. The woman at the front desk who I usually see is just not very friendly. I don't remember her name but she always has on very long glue on lashes and she has a cold demeanor. Other than her, I like it there.

I like it here, but itβs really hard to get a lane to swim in. Iβm a visually impaired, full time working person and I rely on public transportation. A few times I was told to share lanes, even though I explained I couldnβt see well enough to do that safely. I have gone in the morning 3 times and had to leave because people are in the lanes walking, talking, standing.. but not swimming. The lifeguards really need to enforce the lap swim times and not allow people to use swim lanes as a social gathering. The therapy pool is perfect for that kind of activity.

This has been my gym for the last 2.5 years and I love it here.
The staff is super friendly. They know about the gym and are very caring.
The rooms have recently been remodeled. They just redid the weight room and some other rooms. They have good machines.
I enjoy the cardio room.
My daughter takes swim lessons here.
You gotta check the outdoor area too!

This YMCA is a Rip Off Fraud; took two months of membership fees on a scholarship program from a single mom after I cancelled and moved away!!! Didn't go there; and want to be a member and they deducted money off my CC without my permission..Under investigation for FRAUD and dirty lockerrooms with someone they sprays kidz with toxic sprays...very strange and unprofessional YMCA; I"m out of there....very sad...they have to steal!!1

The small group outdoor exercises classes are amazing- like personal training but a fraction of the cost. Consistently hard but doable workouts. I've been part of this program for about a year and have gotten a lot stronger as a result. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a tough but supportive exercise program. Also- we use the childcare at the Y a lot and it is a clean and nurturing environment.

This Y Family is the best. There is no other wellness business that cares for the well-being of Ventura like the Y. We are a non-profit, cause-driven, charitable organization, that will do what it can to provide resources and opportunity for Ventura and surrounding communities. We are more than a gym. Come visit our Community Open House on January 4th from 10:00am-1:00pm and experience the Y for yourself.

I cannot say enough good things about the YMCA. The YMCA is a great gym for families. The childcare program makes it easy to drop your children off and go for a good workout without worrying about the kids.
Being diagnosed with cancer, I found the Livestrong program at the YMCA to be very beneficial. This program has a great post-rehabilitation exercise program and supportive cancer care. Participating in this program with other cancer patients helped me with sharing my experience of dealing with cancer and hearing what they were feeling and the struggles that they have encountered.
The YMCA has a large selection of group exercise programs and children programs. The facility is clean and the staff is very friendly.

Ventura currently is over run with gyms from big box chains to boutique fitness groups to crossfit, etc. but hands down the best one for families is the YMCA. The youth programs are amazing. My son started swim lessons at 6 months and now is enrolled in their new toddler music class which he adores. Although I leave with Raffi jams stuck in my head for the rest of the day it's a small price to pay to see how much fun he's having. He's starting their itty bitty sports programs in January when he turns 2. To be able to have proper childcare for my son that he looks forward to while I work out as well is also blessing that wasn't able to find at other gyms. Everyone is welcoming and friendly and they have everything for adults on the fitness side from a weight room to cardio equipment to the pool to the sauna. Can't say enough. The Y is more than a gym but it's also the best gym in town. Just wanted to acknowledge how much the place means to me and give everyone there some well deserved kudos!

Wonderful place to take children to workout with you. Staff greets you upon entry and are usually friendly. Their kids activities are usually good with decent instructors. I also love all the group classes that are available throughout the day. Facility is clean and kept up.
However, I rate the Ventura YMCA with a 3 star, because their swim team is half par. Instructors just tell the kids what to do with very minimal direction and/or correction on technique. If you are looking to improve your childβs swimming technique for future competitions, this is not the place for it. However, if you want them conditioned, then yes take them here.
I was hoping for more technical instructions for my son and have voiced my concerns on several occasions, especially since I have to pay for my son to be on the swim team. Yet, their has been minimal change. I guess I should not expect to much considering they hire young adults to instruct the kids, whom are probably just paid minimum wage.

I've been a member of the YMCA for more than 6 years. I joined when my first child was a few months old. The Y has been a God send for me. Children's Corner and the child care that comes with membership has allowed me to stay sane over the past few years as my (now 2) children were growing up from babies, to toddlers and now pre-school/school age. From programs like swimming lessons, dance (itty bitty ballet - so cute) and introduction to various sports as well as other programming during the holidays, the Ventura Family YMCA has been a rock in my family's schedule. The facilities are excellent and are always being improved and upgraded. From the Fitlinxx room to the free weight room, the various community rooms and gym, the outdoor court and the therapy and lap pool, the Y has it covered! Patrons of the Y range from the very young to the very mature and it truly is a 'family' YMCA.

The Ventura Y is a great place to go to feel a sense of community, as a life time member I can say that there has never been a time that I have gone where I have felt neglected, or unwelcome. The staff are always there ready to greet you with a smile on their faces. The moment you walk through that door the first time you are immediately welcomed as family. The Y is one big happy family, and a place where you can go to feel loved. If there is anyone on the fence about becoming a member, I am here to tell you that it's the best decisions my parents made for me as a child and as an adult I will continue to be a part of this community for as long as I live! Thank you to all the staff and volunteers for all the hard work they do to make the Ventura YMCA the amazing place it is!

This place is a dilapidated hole. Clearly Amy has better things to do than run thus facility properly. We gladly cancelled our memberships after 15 months because of the awful staff, lack of equipment, horrendous children classes (NOBODY SHOULD EVER PAY FOR THE "KARATE" OR "GYMNASTICS" class for kids as it's an absolute joke), the only class they offer for kids that's worth it is the swim classes (we did basketball as well for our small child and that was a mess- this isn't a class for beginners).
The facility is old and they don't take proper care of it (wet and discolored ceilings, leaks from the ceilings, gym equipment is constantly broken- you'll never go in the cardio room and not find at least 1 machine broken - considering you only have about 25 machines this is pitiful).
They allow teenagers to run the facility, meaning you get moody brats at desk as soon as to you walk in, very pleasant. Amy and Jill also don't care when you tell them these "employees" aren't mature or responsible enough to sit at a counter, they take personal offense to it (I'm guessing because these 2 train the "employees").
THEY DON'T PROPERLY FILL THE WIPE CONTAINER EITHER WHICH IS DISGUSTING. Way too many times the wipe container to clean your equipment would be empty (and yes, there's only 1 container, not multiples, ONE) and I would practically beg them to refill it so I didn't leave my machine drenched with my sweat. Again, very pleasant.
I could go on and on about how miserable this facility is, but I think I've made my point. If the "director" reads this, don't respond, take care of that hell hole and start by firing Amy and Jill.

I would rate 5 stars, except I was sadly suprised to find all swim lanes allocated to the children swim team during peak hours for working people (3:30-7:30 pm). Very odd programming strategy. While I was very thankful for reciprocal access from another region, it ended up being a moot point since I can't bang out my swim after work to destress.

Iβve worked out here for over 10 years and at times itβs been great and the wonderful staff kept me around as long as I did, but the gym itself is terrible, the weight room is the smallest room in the entire gym, only one of each machine, so most of the time I spend an annoying amount of time waiting. The pool, which I use frequently is almost always taken up by classes which span for most of the day. The worst part however and the reason Iβm leaving is the hours, any chance they have to close they will. During the December for example they were closed for 8 days thatβs 1/3 of the month with no refund for those days. On weekends they close early if 10:00 wasnβt early enough during the week. I came in today to be told they are closing at 6 for a meeting. Seriously? Iβm done, love the people and I want the gym to do well, but it just canβt compare to gyms that are 24 hours, cheaper and have more equipment.

I love the Ventura Family YMCA! I moved here a couple years ago and was thrilled to see that the Y was only two blocks from my houseβI can walk there several times a week and not have to bother with a car!
The Ventura YMCA is smaller than most that I have attended, but it has everything one needs for a complete workout and also has a wide variety of classes available. I have been to numerous Y βs but this is the cleanest one I have ever seenβthe staff is continually cleaning the locker rooms and wiping down the equipment. I highly recommend giving the Ventura YMCA a try!
