I’ve been training with Virtuo for some months now, and they’ve been great. All of the trainers are not only skilled but also genuinely warm people, which makes the experience really enjoyable. Brandon, the owner, is very responsive and clearly cares about his clients. I recommend trying out a few trainers to find the right fit.
I ended up working with Keith as my coach, and he’s absolutely fantastic! I’ve worked with many trainers before, but Keith brings a unique clarity to movements that really helps me understand proper form. He always follows up on what I do outside our sessions, is very goal-oriented, and keeps me motivated. His suggestions for managing diet have also been incredibly helpful. And I am already seeing results.
I highly recommend Keith and the rest of the trainers at Virtuo.

Really great gym and trainers at Virtuo! Comfortable, clean, and very professional environment in the gym with super knowledgeable and friendly trainers. I’ve struggled with injuries related to my work and Sarita, Keith, and Brandon have all been extremely kind and diligent in helping me build back my strength in a functional way to both recover and prevent further injuries. After only a couple months training at Virtuo my fitness journey has definitely shown positive results. As an elderly person (71 years old) I was concerned about starting a workout routine at my age having neglected physical exercises for nearly 20 years but I thought maybe if I worked with a professional trainer it would be a smarter and safer approach. The biggest highlight of moving to LA so far has been walking past the beautiful Virtuo gym, meeting Brandon the incredible founder of Virtuo, who onboarded me as a new client two months ago. Best decision I have seriously made !! I have historically avoided gyms which were always intimidating environments for me to be in. Never felt comfortable or motivated - clearly just had not yet found the right one, until now. Brandon and his team welcomed me with a comprehensive consultation regarding the gym facilities, team, services on offer where we discussed my goals, lifestyle, nutrition and beyond. A super insightful and beneficial 1:1 to align w the right training program for my needs. Now, I train 2x a week (group training). Special S/O to Derrick, Nick, and Sarita for all their immense hard work, knowledge, motivation and patience. My posture and form in exercises I could never previously even attempt are improving significantly week by week as well as my confidence and overall well-being. Excellent experience here. Brandon is an amazing trainer. I had a short timeline to be able to work with him and he developed a personal program that has fixed several weaknesses that were causing injuries. He looks at your nutritional and fitness goals and develops a personal program.

My focus was movement and functional fitness and he created an amazing program that has turned me around physically.

He’s willing and able to completely rework the program on the fly as you progress. For example, I showed up with lingering muscle strains and he completely redid my workout on the spot for that day to address the underlying instability that was causing the issues. Because of that I have resolved two injuries that have nagged me for literally decades.

Positive and supportive, he’s an outstanding trainer and human being. If you do the work, he is dedicated to your success- I received messages from him evenings and weekends checking in and monitoring what I was doing.

I did a lot of research before joining a gym in Los Angeles, and I’m so glad I ended up at Virtuo. Here are the reasons why (list not exhaustive):

1. I have never been a gym or sports person — I was the type to walk the mile in PE class. So I didn’t really have the foundational knowledge (nor the confidence) to work out by myself or in a big group class. Virtuo has been a phenomenal place to learn this stuff from scratch. It’s much more private than most gyms and the trainers are very knowledgeable, encouraging, and nonjudgmental.

2. You know how in LA, a lot of “trainers” are actually just aspiring actors/models? That’s not the case here. The trainers at Virtuo are career trainers with real expertise. Because I have arthritis and a leg length discrepancy and bad knees, this has been so crucial for me. Brandon has been careful to choose exercises that don’t cause me any joint pain, and even better, exercises that have helped improve my balance A LOT.

3. Virtuo is not a miserable boot camp type environment. The trainers definitely push me beyond my own perceived limitations and comfort zone, but in an manageable way where I’ve been able to make steady progress. Brandon is especially great at distracting me with jokes and interesting conversation which make those 30 second mountain climber reps go by much faster.

If you’re looking for a “scene” kind of gym like Equinox, this might not be the best fit for you. But if you want help from experts to improve your workouts and achieve consistent (and pretty fast) results, Virtuo is a fantastic choice and worth every penny.

I had a positive experience at Virtuo Fitness. The trainers, especially my trainer, Jonathan, were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Jonathan took the time to understand me and my fitness goals and helped me develop a plan that would help me succeed. I also appreciated that they focused on injury prevention and flexibility. The gym has a relaxed atmosphere where I can focus on my workouts without feeling pressured.

I worked out with Jonathan for a year and a half. During that time, I successfully achieved my weight goals, and we started focusing on my strength goals. I would still train with Jonathan if I hadn’t moved out of state.

Parking meters are available on 3rd Street, and the side streets and the gym have a few parking spots behind. I highly recommend Virtuo Fitness to anyone looking for a supportive and welcoming personal training gym.

Update 10/28/24: still going strong at Virtuo. I recently fell off the gym wagon and the team was really helpful with welcoming me back and getting me back into the rhythm of things. I really appreciate the team and highly recommend this gym if you need results and accountability.

I've never been a fan of the gym but after lockdown and working from home everyday I knew I had to start being more active. I like my privacy so knew a big gym wasn't for me. I was talking with my friend and she mentioned she was doing personal training at this studio down the street from my house and said I should check them out. I called and spoke with the owner who booked an introductory session for me. During the session one of the coaches asked me all about my goals and what I was currently doing. After that we did a small workout so I could try it out. I really liked how it didn't feel rushed or overly salesy. It felt like he actually wanted to help. After the session he showed me some program options and let me choose which one I liked better and I decided to do the one on one program since it would give me the most support. I got paired with coach Eric who has been amazing. I like how everything feels at my pace and not overwhelming. I was pretty sore for the first few weeks so Eric added in a lot of stretching to help. Since signing up 3 months ago I've been constantly going to the gym with them 3 days per week and I've already gotten much stronger. I'd never have thought I'd say this but I actually look forward to going to the gym! The atmosphere is very welcoming and all the trainers make sure to say hi when you walk in. I've also been attending their monthly get togethers which is a nice break from working from home all week. I'm getting to the end of my first package and will definitely be signing on for more. Even if you're someone who doesn't like the gym, this place will work great for you.

Last year, I had the vague idea that I wanted to get “into shape” so I found myself talking to Keith and Brandon at Virtuo. They helped me set a goal and we got started generally working on functional mobility so I can take a few flights of stairs without getting too winded.

From there, the goal evolved into nutrition and weight loss. My trainer Keith helped me understand macros and kept me accountable with tracking my food every day, and since getting more disciplined, I’ve been able to lose over 40 pounds. I appreciate that Keith challenges me with entertaining workouts every time I see him— we are currently working on cardio and muscle endurance and I can run up many flights of stairs (even a half marathon!) now with no problem.

I’ve never felt better and I love that my morning workouts give me so much energy for my work day. The community at the gym is also great! Everyone is there to work hard and have fun and it’s nice to see familiar faces every time I’m there.

I walked in off balance, slightly injured, and out of shape. I am way leaner, more toned, and super strong. My friends and family are always commenting on how much my body has changed for the better. I went to a Pilates class in Aspen this past week and the instructor was like "wow you're super strong." I can lift and push super heavy, and body isn't bulky its toned. Also, this gym is so fun! Jonathan, Brandon, Keith, have the best personalities. If anyone is going to kick your ass in the gym let it be them because it's fun while they are doing it. I can't recommend these trainers and this gym more than enough. If you put in the work, and let them train you, you will come out so much stronger. The work outs are focused to help your form and make you strong. So, get up off the internet and get to Virturo Personal Training.

I started working with Virtuo Personal Training in the fall of 2023 when I saw an advertisement for a training program for 40 somethings who wanted to lean down and get abs. A few years prior, I had worked with Brandon, the head trainer, as part of a bodybuilding program he had created. The bodybuilding program worked so well that, when I saw the advertisement for the cutting program, I had to give it a try. I was astounded by how well it worked, even in the remote-coaching format. I had walked by this place a few times living near by, the things that stood out were laughter and that it wasn’t too full like other gyms. It was clear to me that everyone in there was having a great time and getting the 1:1 attention that proper training deserves.

I have been a member of many gyms, always to cross paths with people that are discourteous to others, not aware that the gym is a shared space.

The staff here is so friendly and truly are experts in tailoring a fitness plan to your goals. It feels more like a community than a gym and I feel like I really found a hidden gem as far as gyms go.

They are very keen on hygienics, all equipment and mats get wiped down and everyone pitches in. Brandon and his staff are A+ people and for the first time I actually look forward to training.

Coach Brandon helped me achieve so many goals I never thought possible. I was having terrible hip pain and was struggling to lose weight. I didnt want to get off the couch most days but I knew I needed to do something for my health. Brandon created custom workout plans to strengthen the glutes, hips, and legs and now I’m able to do most things without pain! I went from seeing a chiropractor every 2 weeks to seeing them every 3 months! And as of today I’m down almost 17 pounds since I started my workouts. I worked out with Jess for 3 months with the goal of improving my form, learning how to work out with free weights, and getting stronger overall. Before Jess, I didn’t really know what I was doing at the gym and needed someone to keep me accountable and show me the ropes at the same time.

Jess was always super friendly, but always pushed me to do my best. My first few weeks were the hardest, but as we continued to work together, I started to notice a lot of improvements. I wasn’t as winded so easily, my body fat percentage was going down, the weights I was able to lift were getting heavier, etc.

One of my major pain points was that I used my lower back too often without even noticing. She helped me address that to fix my form and now my lower back never really hurts anymore when working out.

Everything I learned with Jess boosted my confidence. Now, I can go back into a gym and confidently walk into the free weight section knowing that I know what I’m doing, that my form will be good, and I have a lot of new exercises that I didn’t know how to do before.

I honestly would not be where I’m at today with my fitness goals if it weren’t for Jess and Virtuo Fitness. I really appreciate everyone there as they created a really friendly, inviting, non-judgmental environment for everyone. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is looking for a place that cares about your personal fitness goals.

I was referred to Virtuo by a friend that trains with Keith. I've had a very positive experience training with Keith. I came to Virtuo looking for guidance on strength training. I tried HIIT classes and gym memberships in the past that never really help me build and maintain good habits when working out. Keith taught me proper technique and helped me understand my physical tendencies doing certain movements like squatting and the hinge. I believe Keith has given me the confidence to workout and not feel like I might hurt myself. He's also the homie! Starting my training at Virtuo mid June has been one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. I walked there not knowing where to start from especially after gaining 30lbs mostly as a result of pregnancy and a very stressful work schedule. I had failed many attempts to lose weight on my own, even with the help of a nutrition specialist at some point last year.

When I met Brandon in June, I honestly had no expectation to when I will be losing weight and just wanted to start and feel good about myself. Brandon was very realistic and shared that the weight gained over two years will take some time as I develop healthier eating habits and reassured me that I will lose the weight and maintain my weight loss. He does an amazing job checking on my progress and getting feedback.

It hasn’t been 3 month yet and I am already so close to hit my 10lbs weight loss milestone (new and first time moms can relate to how challenging this is!) I’ve been training with Sarita twice a week and absolutly love her training style and support. She always make sure I am performing my exercices correctly and often reminds me that the scale is only one metric to measure progress which is so true. I have so much more energy since I started, I am stronger, and can fit in some of my old pants :) Those metrics to me are as important as the number on the scale.

I started out at Virtuo with a goal of losing 15 pounds. They were thorough with getting my health and fitness history and laying out a roadmap for the 3 months it would take to achieve my goal. After 3 months of diet and personal training, I had not reached my goal. To be transparent I was very frustrated with the situation; however, I will say that Brandon made it right. He let me work with their health coach until I hit my goal weight and was 100% satisfied with my results. Now I go to their Saturday group classes which are so awesome. My significant other joined Virtuo Fitness earlier this year and would come home raving about the trainers and how much he was liked his sessions. He started seeing results very quickly and convinced me to check them out. He commits his entire being to the efficacy and results of his clientele, and knows he does not have a practice without concrete evidence of their progress. When I reached out to Virtuo, I wanted to lose weight and look better. I took advantage of their free session to survey the place, checkout the trainers, and get a free workout 😊. After I schedule the free session, I got a video message from Eric confirming the date and time – I thought that was a classy start – putting a face on a name so that at least I know who I will be dealing with.

During the free session, Eric asked questions to get to know my goals, what I want to achieve, what my expectations are, etc., etc.. Then the trial workout started – he showed me shorter version of what to expect during actual sessions. Was I impress? I believe I was more impress on Eric’s the sincerity and genuine attitude to help me achieve my goals. In addition, he explained to me some things that we usually take for granted and ignore that is also important for one’s overall well-being. At that point, I was ready to sign up for the program without even discussing the cost.

So when I joined Virtuo, my perspective have changed – I wanted to not only lose weight but gain flexibility, strength, and stability (things that I took for granted); not just to look better, but to feel better overall (something that I have ignored)

Eric partnered me with Jonathan (aka Johnny) who happens to be their in-house nutritionist. Jonathan went through the whole script about nutrition, and the need to measure what I eat. I am not a fan of counting calories, and add to that counting protein, carbs and fats. Since I already paid for the program, I did what I was asked to do. Then for the workout, at first I thought they were simple movements, however, when Jonathan shows you the correct way of doing it and explains the rationale of the movement and what muscles is being used, I soon recognized that it is not simple at all, plus, you also need to use your brain so your body will be able to do it right. Thank goodness Jonathan is always keeping a close watch making sure I am doing it correctly. I also realized how uncoordinated I am and how weak my muscles are.

So, with all these, after just a few sessions, I started to feel the difference – I feel more energized, a bit stronger and can last the whole day feeling I can do more. I also feel that my chronic shoulder pain feels much better, and I am getting better sleep. Thanks to Johnny for being patient and flexible with our workout routine to address my aches and pain (I do whine a lot 😊) and making sure my form and movements are correct.

I believe that joining Virtuo was one of the best decisions I made – I was searching for just a gym and a personal trainer, instead, I found a family who would look out for your overall health and fitness. They encourage you, they believe in you and on top of that, they are fun to be with.

Again, thanks to Eric for showing me what Virtuo has to offer and kudos to Jonathan, one of the best trainer I’ve worked with. He not only has the knowledge but also the passion and patience to share what he knows. It’s hard when you’re getting old and feeling old – however with trainer like Jonathan (and of course Eric and actually anybody from the Virtuo fitness team), age is just a number as they will definitely make you feel young and energized.

I've been an athlete my whole life, but i had been making excuses that were keeping me away from sticking to an exercise routine. I found Virtuo and was not disappointed. After my free session with Eric I was exhausted and he went over goals and a plan. I was in. Eric pushed me and got me back into good habits. His knowledge helped my form improve and also taught me new exercise variations. He would also go out of his way to check in on me on my days out of the gym. I had recently moved from San Francisco when I walked by Virtuo Fitness and thought to reach out. Being new to the neighborhood (and LA) I wasn’t sure to expect and a bit intimidated by how many gyms there were. Shortly after reaching out, I easily made my first session with Keith, and I’ve been training with him ever since.

Keith (and the rest of the crew) are friendly, outgoing, sorta funny ;) and good at what they do. Throughout college until now (at 30) I have had a handful of trainers. I left a great trainer back in San Francisco and feel extremely lucky to have run into Keith. I wanted to work on my person, both physically and mentally, having always struggled with body and self esteem issues.

Keith is not only technically adept, but he pushes and encourages me beyond the gym itself. I feel like I’m gaining skills and motivation to remain consistent in my efforts from now until forever. Additionally, when a work out doesn’t feel right or something has felt off in my body, he is sure to make sure we do preventative exercises / stretches and is really critical with form – which is great!

I can confidently say my flexibility and strength have improved, and my nutrition is ~slowly~ getting better. If you’re still reading this, Virtuo is a solid gym (equipment and all) with solid trainers. I highly recommend checking them out and seeing where it takes you!

Thanks to Keith, I've shed 20 lbs and am on my way to maxing my physical fitness goals.

I came to Virtuo to train for the Army Combat Fitness Test and to lose weight gained as a result of being 35 and sitting at a desk all day. I was immediately impressed by Keith's subject matter expertise and functional focus. I was concerned about injury with the deadlift, and he was able to explain the movement and provide cues that helped me understand how to safely train to achieve my goals. I decided to start working out at Virtuo because of their training philosophy and results, and my expectations have not only been met put surpassed. Keith's expertise and his motivation has helped me shed weight and increase results in all six test events with a combination of nutrition goals, in-person, and on my own programmed training. Id like to start off by saying i am not a review person. HOWEVER, I am compelled to speak about the team at Virtuo.

First of all, The amount of knowledge the team possesses and shares with each other is second to none. It really is the closest thing, if not the thing itself, to professional athletic training. Certifications on certifications and people who put them to daily use, not just for content. There are many things that factor into the experience here. Mindset, nutrition, education, application, plan and method thereof. These are not just factors, but the beliefs of the team. And it shows - everyday i walk in there, im greeted with fire energy, good humor, and a "get after it" attitude (safety first). Im fired up when I get there and even more fired up when i leave.

Now, the training. Gilbert is my man. Like the multifaceted squad with which Virtuo is equipped, Gilbert practices JuJitsu and surfs and is KettleBell certified. (Who knew?). Its nice to know because as a snowboarder and boxer, you need more diversified training than just bro curls.

Is it hard? yes. Do i lift heavy things? Yes. Do i stretch? Yes. And so much more. I started with these guys looking for a cross training program to supplement my boxing training. I cannot really express how it has helped because in truth, I've only been w Virtuo for a few months. BUTT (its a big one), my stamina has increased, my mobility and flexibility have increased, I hit harder and faster than before, and at 41 Im on a definitive path to success. And more than anything, my technique for proper physical movement across all disciplines has made some leaps.

So, my question to someone when they ask me if I train at Virtuo is -

Do you not?

I rarely post on Yelp, but wanted to share my appreciation for the Virtuo Personal Training team and my trainer Eric. I had a hard time jumping back into a fitness routine after an injury last year. I happened to stumble on Virtuo while walking down Melrose and after asking a few questions - was blown away by how welcoming the team and space was. I signed up a few days later and am now about 4 months into my new routine. Eric guides me through workouts that are safe for my injury but also push me to be a stronger, better athlete. The space is bright and clean, with only 1 or 2 clients max at a time. Highly recommend!

I’m so glad I found Virtuo Fitness! The fact that they are located less than 5 mins from my place is also a blessing. I have a hard time getting up early in the mornings and I’m also not a gym person. I would do quick workouts at home using an app or videos I found on YouTube. Before joining these guys I had never worked out a day in my life. They’re all extremely welcoming, funny and kind to even the most novice of people, which is great, but beyond that the thing that consistently strikes me six months in (at three sessions per week) is the amount of detailed knowledge they have regarding fitness and anatomy. I recently joined a fitness challenge they were having I was assigned to work with Coach Jonathan. However all coaches made themselves available for the many questions I had. I live in CT they are a California based company. Having virtual support like that was a huge plus. The challenge included daily workouts, a water and food tracking goal. And so much more !!! They shared videos on having great form, how to modify exercises, how to use foam rollers. I learned so much in this short amount of time. My fitness goal is something he has already reached in his fitness journey, so it’s great to have a coach that’s relatable. I have been working with Coach Brandon at Virtuo Personal Training since March of 2021 and in this time I have lost almost 60 pounds of body fat due to his comprehensive training/nutrition plans. I give him my highest possible recommendation.

Brandon and his team are extremely competent, well educated in multiple fitness disciplines and empathetic to their clients. They are easy work with but will keep you on track and is very communicative and easy to reach.

Coach Brandon's programing is cutting edge in terms of technique, fitness education and use of technology, i.e. apps, calorie tracking, a positive social media space, etc. He is not gimmicky or about cheap fitness hacks. His plans build off the fundamentals but because of his depth of fitness knowledge, the lifting/fitness plans he has provided me have been engaging, challenging and fun.

I am confident that Brandon and his team have set me up well both for future weight loss/fitness success but also with a skill and knowledge base that will let me keep the weight off this time. Nothing but good things to say about this gym.
Fitness has been a pretty consistent thing in my lifetime for the last 10-12 years and I reached another point where I wanted to “up” my training.
Group fitness and working out alone wasn’t doing it for me, so I wanted to finally get a one on one experience - and I’m so happy I did at this gym.
When I first went into Virtuo, I met with Brandon, the owner who was super knowledgeable about the body and fitness overall and he was just easy to talk to. The gym itself had everything I needed and was very well kept, so making the decision to pull the trigger was easy. I’m so happy I did. This place has become a home to me. The coaches are great. The other members that I’ve met seem to really love it too. Happy I found this place.

I’ve always had trouble with my nutrition, I’m sure that is the same for most people. I tried all the diets and meal plans out there. They were either too expensive or just too hard to stick too. I found Coach Brandon and he created some customized meal plans for me. It was pretty easy at first and the recipes were delicious. I saw some great progress within 2-3 weeks into the new nutrition plan.

When I started to fall off my nutrition, Coach Brandon was there messaging me and keeping me accountable. If you’re looking for some great nutrition or fitness plans with a great coach to keep you accountable and keep you on track to your fitness goals. Coach Brandon and Virtuo Personal Training are what you need. The Virtuo Team are very knowledgeable and super supportive with each of their clients.

I met Brandon back in college and we hit it off! 10 years later I found myself struggling with my diet and ability to manage my time and wanted to get back on track to the collegiate athlete that i once was. I reached out to Brandon who quickly evaluated my needs and set a plan into place. My overall goal was to lose the excess fat I put on and to love a healthier lifestyle... needless to say in 4 months I shed 35 lbs and formed some great habits that I am going to continue for the foreseeable future. I had always wanted to workout but I never really knew what to do. The trainers at Virtuo really helped in showing me the proper exercises and nutrition to get further into what I wanted for myself. They laid out a program for me that has shown me how to do things properly and now I am able to confidently workout on my own should I ever have to. Since I’ve started I’ve become a lot stronger and have seen my body change in ways I had always told myself I’d never get to. I’ve hired a number of personal trainers, and have been coached by a slew of Crossfit coaches in the past and I can honestly say Brandon Sundwall is the best of the best. Most trainers take a one-size-fits-all approach when training clients. Brandon is the polar opposite. With his wealth of knowledge as it relates to the body, Brandon caters his workouts and nutrition guidelines to each individual based on THEIR personal goals. He teaches proper and precise techniques when it comes to weight lifting and training to avoid injury. Should an injury occur, as I have experienced simply from old age, Brandon pin points the problem and can offer a number of remedies to get you back to 100%. I highly recommend Virtuo Fitness. The space is equipped with state of the art equipment, not to mention the space is CLEAN. In this day and age, I never take cleanliness for granted. Virtuo Fitness is the perfect studio to train, whether you are just starting out on your fitness journey or an old dog out to learn new tricks like me. At age 40, I’m in the best shape of my life thanks to Brandon and Virtuo Fitness.
