been going to this Y off and on for over 10 years. itβs certainly gone downhill since covid. no one uses the pool or spa anymore as they still implement covid-era reservation policies.
today a lifeguard thatβs been there at least 7 years, i know him and he knows me, comes up and says βhey man, itβs 15 minute limit for the hot tub. youβve been in there about 20β.
ig he was bored and j wanted to say something to someone. iβm a fit man in my mid-30s. iβve been to gyms, spas, and sat in jacuzzis all over the world the last 15 years. iβve never, ever had anyone tell me to get out of the hot tub after 15 minutes. laughable, uncomfortable, and largely psychotic behavior. if youβre bored walk around the pool deck or start cleaning, bro. donβt EVER come at me like that. busted Y, cold showers, terrible pool schedule, dead scene. onward Santa Monicaβ¦

Scummy, predatory gym practices. I was getting charged for months because they didn't let me cancel my membership online because my account was "suspended". My account was suspended because I never set foot in the gym. They were getting money out of me for nothing. The day after I got charged I finally went in for the first time to cancel. The desk rep assured me everything was taken care of. Fast forward to now and they're STILL charging me. They've created these BS blockades to extract not 1 but TWO more months out of me, despite already getting hundreds of dollars out of me for nothing for several months prior. And I told the rep that the first time I went in-person.
YMCA is no family or community established it's a for-profit gym business just like all the rest of them, and they will prey on your money with nefarious practices all the same.

UPDATE: 10/30/24 PΓ²ols closed. THIS app does not allow U 2 do an additional review.
So I have 2 put the new review above the old.I was intending 2 write a review on yesterday giving 4βοΈ. Because 4 the months I had been complaining, finally 6/4/2024 the water was warmed up N the lap pool. They said the heater was fixed (Well I had been telling U 4 months!!!).
6/5/2024 We came 4 R 4 p.m reservation. There was a sign posted @ the front desk:Lap pool, open swim,& jacuzzi R closed.Jacuzzi will open @ 7 p.m (The building closes @ 8 p.m.).I am fed up w/ the practices @ this YMCA.As U can see by my previous review they had been closed from 11/26/2023-3/20/2024.The open swim & jacuzzi opened back up on 3/18/2024. Nonetheless, the water area of the place was closed for 3 months & 3 weeks.I used the pool 4 no other reason but the lap pool. However since the reopening of the pool(s).They have closed the pool 2-3 other times that I can recall.U would think 3 mo. 3 wks. would B more than enough time 2 take care of any repairs & concerns. I don't recall this happening under the previous administration. On 3/20/2024,I went that 1 day & then the lap pool closed again the next day & was closed for about a week. I don't normally go on Saturday. But since I had not been able 2 go due 2 closure when they were open on Saturday & raining,I was happy 2 go on 3/30/2024. Besides this 3 month & 3 wk closure there was just 1 other time that the pool closure was input into the YMCA app notifications. Which prevents the inconvience of the patron showing up 4 their reservation during a pool closure. There is no earthly reason Y when they have this app notification available 2 them that it is not standard operating procedure 2 input the info 2 notifications everytime there is a closure. On 5/21/2024 Pool(s) closed due 2 the heater went out.Not often do they tell U Y the pool is closed, but this is only 1 time I received a call from Sweet Dawn @ the Y telling me that my 4 p.m, slot was canceled due 2 closure.I had been telling them 4 months that the water N the lap pool was cold,& it was not up 2 the same temperature as it had been when I first began to come (October or November 2021).It's as if they don't pay attention 2 what U R saying,R don't care.I was told N April 2 of the lifeguards that had been there prior to the 3 mo. 3wk closure had been fired (I wondered where they were) because 1 went 2 the bathroom while the other 1 covered the 2 positions. If that's true, what process is N place 4 lifeguards 2 use the bathroom if needed? IF there is none, they certainly need 2 get 1.That is bad supervision & bad management all the way 2 the top. What if a lifeguard had a medical illness R disability that occurred while poolside. If the uplink did not plan R have an advance protocol 4 such a time it certainly would B a reflection on their inexperience of something so easily remedied. Matter of fact,I have observed a couple of times in the last 7 days 1 lifeguard going 2 the bathroom or leaving the floor 4 a time while other covered.Girl's shower still is cold. Also taking the benches from the open swim area is disrespectful.
OLDER REVIEW:Frontline staff R friendly & helpful.Very clean facility.I go 4 the pool,@ 1st weight loss. Now rehabilitating knee replacements.Girl's showers on the 1st floor have been cold 4 a very long time. I've brought it 2 the attention of the manager by email repeatedly, still not fixed. The women's shower on the 2nd floor hot water works.
But I don't use the stairs because of my knees.Water would drip from the pool, down the hallway 2 the elevator,& on the elevator & walk through 2nd floor exercise machine area 2 the locker room.I am more sensitive 2 other people's needs.
Update: Pool was shutdown after Thanksgiving 2023,said 2 open 1/8/2024. As that date approached then it was said will open 2/1.It didn't.Now approaching 3/1 the new date 2 open.Nothing on the app, no reservation slots open.I didn't mind so much paying & not going 4 1 month.1 mention about the closure N January newsletter
No photos, nothing. This is a lousy way 2 operate.

FYI!!! This location allows grown men to shower in the boys locker room.
A few months ago I noticed two men getting dressed after showering when I brought my kid in there. I questioned one and he got an attitude with me saying he was given permission from someone named Dawn and to talk to her. He said he was given permission because his lock didn't work with the upstairs lockers.
I have tried to get her email but the staff I've spoken with always revert to saying they will talk to her.
Today, on youth basketball day, there was a man walking around completely naked with 6 to 7 kids in there. No towel or anything. I approached the front desk and was told they make exceptions for older people by one worker, but then another person working said they can't and asked that he go tell the guy not to.
Seems pretty inconsistent.
I'm wondering, are members background checked to see if they are sex offenders?

If you can avoid, this YMCA, do!
I signed up my daughter to do their sleep-away camp. My daughter was waitlisted which is ok. While I completely understand that space is limited and we signed up late in the process, trying to get a status update from their director of Teen Program, Jimi Lee Tomboc is basically asking for a Miracle. No reply to voicemail, no reply to emails and meanwhile the date is approaching and still no response. I don't understand how the lack of professionalism and lack of courtesy is ok for this YMCA. At least 10 calls later and having to get very forceful due to the frustration, I finally get to speak to this elusive person who says there's no possibility of my daughter getting a spot for camp but in the meantime, alternative options I had researched in the event she didn't get in, are now all full and she has no options left. I'm not angry by the fact that the camp is full, i understand how that goes but I'm angry by the incompetence and absolute lack of caring from this person for parents and kids trying to just get a simple answer. If you don't want to do a job, then go do something else that matters to you!!! My son did the same camp through the YMCA mid-valley (Van Nuys) in June, and they couldn't have been more responsive and lovely to deal with. It was the extreme opposite of what i encountered with this YMCA.

This really was a great place to play. Basketball at when I was younger, was a nice gym to get shots up. Competition was always a little weak lol

Signed my son up for a the summer program. Had a family life event. Contacted ymca to cancel program within allowed time. They gave me an email to contact Chrishawn Mitchell, I contacted her via email, she replied promptly. She then gave me another email to contact another department for cancellation. The email was invalid. I sent her 4 emails letting her know the email was invalid and I never heard from Chrishawna ever again. They for sure took my money of course and once the summer program started, all of sudden Chrishawna is sending out emails about summer program starting but never replied to giving me an invalid email. Iβm the midst of going through a family death, my account was charged twice a after attempting to cancel a month in advance before the program even started

I have been a member for almost three years. I joined for the water fitness classes. Have tried others but this class is my favorite . The instructor is very knowledgeable and a very sweet person. Shoutout to Minnie Scott. Change in administration has yielded a lot of negative changes and feelings among a lot of us. Random pool closures and class cancellations without notice is nerve racking. No response to member concerns via email or phone calls ever. Minnie Scott and her caring heart and concern is all thats keeping me at this location.

Great place for the kids as far as activities my son is done swimming lessons there I've done weight lifting there. I haven't personally been there since COVID and I do recall different homeless encampments in the actual park area I'm not sure of that's been cleaned up yet but if we're just discussing the Westchester YMCA spray location go to activities for families and youngsters you know it always recommend joining the YMCA

This gym is full of amazing amenities with a pool, basketball court, everything. It doesnβt have a sauna or steam room which is a number but thatβs okay. The pool is great and itβs so refreshing to swim in. One thing I will say is be aware is that thereβs a cramped staircase thatβs leads from the pool to the locker rooms. The menβs and womenβs locker rooms are right next to each other and both doors lead directly into the showers. Once a man opened the womenβs door while I was showering naked assuming he was going into the menβs. Not sure if this was on purpose or not but itβs a little sketchy.

This place is horrible! A place is the sum total of the people that work there! I'm not saying that all the people that work there are bad they're probably not but this is my second attempt to try to join this place and really for your money don't go here go to LA fitness... My wife and I we're visiting this place cuz we're going to be joining the gym... We like the fact that this place had a pool I called twice to make a reservation I made what I thought was a reservation. We got to the pool to swim and some Jack decides to tell me that I don't have a reservation. Then he proceeds to tell me I need to leave. When I tell him I made a reservation he tells me I still need to leave. The fact of the matter is I had a question for him about why a guy was swimming in the middle of the lane when I was in the lane first number one and that's not how anybody swims anywhere.... Generally you split the lane side by side or you split the lane by going down one side and back the other I'm a pretty good competitive swimmer and this jerk made me a little upset because I was swimming and then to avoid him I hit my hand on the lane marker.... We were supposed to be in the lap swim section that's what I had called about that's what my wife was interested in.... Then I talked to the manager on duty or whatever who had about as much customer service experience as somebody's shoe... Sorry trying to be nice here! Bottom line the shoe told me that he'd look into it but I really didn't feel he actually would! Like I said in the beginning a company is the sum total of the employees and some of these employees need retraining.... To be around customers. There's no complaint line I've sent a complaint to the person that they gave me an email of.... This is how much they care about customer service! Smh....
Go to LA Fitness.... The YMCA that you may have grown up with is not this place and oh by the way at another YMCA, the reason I stopped going to the YMCA, was they told my son and I to immediately get out of the pool because they had some sort of bacteria that was festering or growing! That was years ago I thought I'd give them another try.... Like I said just to be clear this was not the YMCA that had the bacteria or whatever problem with the water but they have a problem with a couple of their employees.... Rudeness, and lack of concern turned what could have been a nice experience into a horrible one!

I want to say that the gym itself is okay but the customer service and how they handle other matters is such a messy. Your payment will be processed wrong every single time and you have to email them to handle the situation. Nothing ever get fixed on time, if you have issues. Simple things and easy to fix will not get fixed because they don't care.
I have been getting charged wrong for almost a year and every single time I need to submit email to explain the situation. Front desk is basically useless when it comes to this.

There is absolutely NO parking available. Teensy tiny little poor excuse of a parking lot. Street parking is hard to find, too. I tried calling the front desk to ask a question.....no one answers the phone there. The door to go into the workout room from the lobby weighs a ton and is not ADA friendly. I think the Collins-Katz YMCA in Santa Monica/WLA is the best I have seen yet. But not this one in Westchester.

Everyone was nice and mannerly, great family friendly environment , but they practice a deceptive and misleading tactic. I paid them $25 cash with the understanding I could get a refund within about 15 days of the membership. When I cancelled in person, instead of getting my money back on some form, I am told it will be around 2 weeks for me to get a check in the mail....
Not what I would expect from this organization ...
