What an amazing Muay Thai gym, after moving to California I was hesitant to start back up in Muay Thai and wasn’t sure which gym to go to. After realizing Yacoubian was so close I decided to give it a try. From the moment I walked in Shawn and the team made me feel extremely welcome. Shawn’s very attentive and breaks things down to the smallest detail. He’s very passionate about making sure everyone not only understands the drills but knows the application for them. Happy to call this Yacoubian Muay Thai my new gym.

Shawn Yacobian's gym is stellar. Great vibes, coaching and experience. I bring my students to spar with them when possible cause I deeply value the teachings of Ajarn Nockweed who is Shawn's master. (Long time friend/fan/associate here) I've fought at 2 of their events.

YMT is a top tier academy to learn Muay Thai! All the coaches break down the techniques in detail and make sure students are demonstrating proper form. I feel progression in the few months I’ve been going. Very welcoming environment and clean training facility.

I've always wanted to learn Muay Thai, but life often gets in the way.
This time, I'm finally doing it and it's so exciting! The classes are so much fun. Everyone is an amazing sport esp. since they put up with my over enthusiasm. I'm living my anime dream to level up and be a great fighter!
I've managed to try every instructor, and they are all AMAZING, and know how to teach. They've all fought professionally and have so much to offer.
I come from a traditional martial arts background and my round house kicks have improved. The way they teach the kicking doesn't hurt my hip and the alignment feels right.
I've lost weight and gotten leaner because the cardio is a lot, but you don't notice because you're having so much fun. It sure beats running on a treadmill. My husband says my legs are getting buff too!
I've improved in martial arts, in fitness and in body composition.
It's been past 3 months since I've started and I'm still loving it.

This place has been so welcoming and has helped me be in better shape as well as helped me relieve stress. There is nothing like a good workout where you learn practical self defense skills that can help you protect yourself and your loved ones. The instructors are top notch and we at the gym are fortunate enough to be part of a great team. Kru Shawn gives valuable feedback along with all the other instructors, and really is meticulous on proper form and helping everyone improve. I highly recommend everyone to try this place to help you be a better person as well as be more healthy mentally and physically!

I have been going to this gym since August, one of the best decisions I have made in a while. All the coaches from the first day have been amazing, along with all of the other students. There is always a wide range students from different levels of experience. The owner has a great team of coaches, and offers classes that will work with all types of work schedules. Everything taught in the classes will be applicable in actual fights, many people including the coaches in the gym are active fighters in amateur or professional fights. I started with no experience in the sport and I have seen so much progress in the last couple months. I would highly recommend this gym for the level of instruction, schedule flexibility, gym environment, and price point.

I’m in my third month at Yacoubian Muay Thai Academy and I couldn’t be happier with this school. I’m a Veteran so I’ve spent a large portion of my life both being trained and training others, so I’ve seen the spectrum of frameworks used to teach. Shawn and his team are professionals, and emphasize technique and proper form heavily, setting students up from the beginning with a strong base of how and why to do things with attention to detail. If you’re just looking for cardio kickboxing, this ain’t it. The people here are genuinely kind, family oriented, respectful, and ego free. Proud to be a part, and looking forward to putting in more work. Thanks everyone!

I started Muay Thai when I was a teenager. My boyfriend and I just bought a home in Chatsworth, and knew I wanted to go back to Muay Thai. Having this studio 3 mins away from our home was a selling point lol. I've been on and off of Muay Thai for the past 20 years, and knew I wanted to go back. BUT I wanted to go back to a studio focused on technique. I appreciate the feedback from Shawn and all the coaches. They want you to be better. The community is kind and fellow students give feedback to one another it's not mean at all we just all want to support one another. It's not about creating cool combos on Instagram, it's about learning and being a master at the basics so you can be better. This lesson I've taken to my own life and business. I highly recommend!

We've been coming to YMT for the last 5 months or so and we couldn't be happier with our decision! We highly recommend it to anyone that wants to get real training and can commit to their own personal growth. The top things with YMT that I respect are the discipline, the attention to detail and the importance of knowing the basics! Classes are actual classes, there's no time wasted playing games or goofing around, you get a real education from highly trained individuals. One of the biggest gripes I have about previous gyms is the lack of multiple knowledgeable Trainers/Sensei's, Yacoubian has extremely well trained coaches and it does not matter which class you come in for; you will always get a great session.
This gym is for the disciplined, you will not be disappointed.

Won’t recommend this place, the coaches are not professional at all when it comes to training the basics to new people to the sport. They ashamed you and they embarrassed you in front of everyone because you don’t know the sport, there are better places out there where coaches really respect you and are willing to help you learn the sport but not this place.

I recommend Yacoubian Muay Thai to everyone. Muay Thai does not only teach you self-defense, it is also a fantastic work out and it raises your confidence. Shawn is a great coach to learn from. Very knowledgable with great insight from many years of professional fighting. The beginner classes are definitely friendly to anyone of all levels and all of the students are chill people. The advanced classes will be sure to be challenging for those advanced practitioners of Muay Thai who want to take their game to the next level. I have been around to many gyms and have been surprised by the level of support offered at Yacoubian. Even the advanced students are more than happy to help out beginners with their technique and training.

I have been training on and off here for a few years. Students that come here are respectful and fun to learn with, and the instruction is top notch. The classes are all great - they can prepare you to become a pro fighter if you're interested, or just help with self defense / achieving weight loss goals. Either way, it's very fun and I would highly recommend trying it out!

I was looking to get going at a muay thai gym for years and after being continuously disappointed by what turned out to be “cardio kickboxing” gyms I FINALLY found the gym I’ve been looking for! Yacoubian Muay Thai is amazing. The owner Shaun and all of the coaches have vast credentials and experience in Muay Thai on the highest level and are very knowledgable and helpful to the students! I’ve only been training there for a few months and have already learned a lot and have been improving very quickly! The staff really pay close attention to each student regarding their goals, strengths, weaknesses, etc... and do everything they can to get you there. Whether your goals be fighting professionally, learning self-defense or just simply getting in better shape, I HIGHLY recommend this gym to anyone at any level!

Having been a member at 2 other clubs before Yacoubian, I have a good understanding of what it is I look for in my muay thai training. After training with Shawn and his coaches I can honestly say they not only met but exceeded my expectations!

No matter your experience level or goal, Shawn and his other coaches will take their time to go around each class and correct the student's form and execution. In addition to awesome coaches, classes and facilities, I really enjoyed the fact that Yacoubian has such a great group of skilled and respectful students. I look forward to returning in the Fall!

I've been going here for about three weeks now and I wish I had found this place two years ago man I would be a beast I train in the morning (5-6am) with Lui s and he is an amazing trainer so far I have done footwork, head movement like slipping and dodging , head, body and lower kicks, knees, elbows, hooks, straights, jabs, and uppercuts as well as a lot of other things to many to list with my work schedule being what it is I dont have the time to train with Shawn like I want to but I have trained with him twice on Saturday evening and it was alas awesome we go over different techniques like checking, countering, combinations, ways to sweep, different angles and points to attack the list can go on but the best part to me is that we get to spar and if you want they will train and build you up to compete that's how you know it's good because you well be groomed to compete which means you will be actually utilizing your skill in a real combat situation I've seen people who train at the arts but when it comes down to the real thing they can't do anything and being able to compete means you will be on that level to handle yourself

I've finally found the right boxing coach after going through 3 of them in the last 2 years.

Shawn is the real deal. He's an experienced fighter whose abilities in the ring match his coaching prowess. Not only is he able to translate his talent into a program that has drastically improved my technique (and more importantly my fitness) but he has also worked to improve my focus and confidence.

What I also like about Shawn is that he brings a lot of life experience, so even though I'm not training to be a professional fighter, he is able to adapt our work to how a real-world situation might unfold on the street.

Shawn is serious and he is appropriately intense, and that's why I can say that he is the most "professional" coach I have ever had since college. He shows up early, stays late, and will chide you for bringing anything less than your best effort. I love Coach Yacoubian!
