My daughter is in the Little Ninjas classes. Sensei does a great job working with several young children all having varied ability to focus. He is very patient and able to keep things moving despite the kids’ relentless distractions.

A child can easily enter and engage with class without any prior experience, and familiarity builds quickly. Depending on the day, many parents/guardians can crowd the waiting area, although several parents will take off to the nearby grocery store or coffee roaster.

The monthly fee is the same regardless of how many times you go - up to six lessons per week. My daughter wants to go any time it’s available.

Found this school for my kiddo, and it was great! For kids the training is every day 30 min, which helps to build a routine but not too long for my kiddo to lose interest. Great school! We like it very much!

I highly recommend Zanshin Dojo for any newcomers looking to get into martial arts! Sensi Mirko has built an incredibly welcoming community at the Dojo, and will make you feel at home right away.

You have 1 week to try it out for free, and see how you like it. Then, if you sign up to be a member, you'll receive a gi (karate uniform) included. Each class, you will not only benefit from Sensei's tremendous all-levels instruction but will also receive 1-on-1 mentoring from black belts in the class.

I was nervous to get started, but quickly found that I loved my time at the Dojo. If you're thinking about it, put yourself out there and try something new with Zanshin Dojo!

Our neighborhood dojo. Couldn't be happier with the experience that our 8 years old is having. Exercise, focus and discipline is what he needed after 18 months of lockdown.

I'd strongly recommend Zanshin dojo. Sensei Mirko has very deep expertise in traditional goju-ryu karate and applied techniques.

The community around the dojo is friendly and respectful!

Great teaching, a friendly, diverse group of students, and training both indoors and outside in Golden Gate Park. Training here kept me active and sane throughout the pandemic, and my 4yo daughter also enjoyed the kids classes.

I've trained in various martial arts styles over the last 17 years, both in the US and in Japan. Zanshin Dojo is one of the best martial arts schools I've come across in all of my training and travels. Mirko Sensei has an incredible command of Goju Ryu Karate and is also a fantastic teacher. The students are friendly and have formed a nice little community that is very welcoming to newcomers. If you are looking to begin training, or if you have experience in martial arts and are looking for a new place to train, come join us at Zanshin Dojo!

Zanshin dojo is amazing. It's not often that you see a place thriving during the pandemic, but Zanshin has done a fantastic job of resuming activity while taking the highest COVID precautions. Their outdoor classes are great for absolute beginners all the way up to high degrees of black belts. If you're looking for a place that facilitates physical growth and doubles as a welcoming community you should definitely check them out.

Zanshin is more community and family than business, and has a warmth and welcoming spirit that embraces the beginner - at any age and any background. From the moment one arrives they are greeted by others from the dojo who are helpful, encouraging and nice. A new person finds themselves in the company of many super-accomplished practitioners eager to help, as well as a range of newer folks and beginners also seeking to help and encourage.
Whether martial arts interests you from a self-defense standpoint, fitness, mental acuity or if you’re just curious, it’s a fantastic place to dip your toe into the waters, or dive deep to connect with a highly experienced and welcoming community. The Head Instructor, Sensei Mirko Buchwald is patient, welcoming, fun, warm, and *very* skilled. We are fortunate to have him here in San Francisco.
The dojo is intimate and warm, tucked away in funky Haight Ashbury, and is very easy to park in a safe area, near Whole Foods (my ritual stop after every practice!) and also next door to a very hip coffee roastery and bar.
Kids programs, adult classes, parties and special events, and numerous types of classss keep the place vibrant and always fresh.
Come, take off your shoes, don a white uniform, leave your daily distractions outside the door and enjoy moving your body and clearing snd cleansing your mind.
