We have had two children through the program with Master Randolf over the last 15-years! Our kiddos came with challenges being on the spectrum and the staff has been AMAZING at helping them grow and adjust in their skills and as respectful responsible humans. I cannot say enough about the family at Boulder Karate! Boulder Rocks!

My son Ward absolutely loves Boulder Karate and especially Sensei Tim. He’s told me many times that “Tim brings out the best in him,” and I couldn’t agree more. As a parent, I really appreciate the balance this program strikes — kids are expected to work hard to earn their advancement, but the environment is always fun, positive, and engaging. It’s been amazing to see Ward’s confidence, focus, and discipline grow through his time here. I can’t recommend Boulder Karate enough!

Boulder Karate continues to be a wonderful experience for my 16 year old. He has been with this dojo for a couple of years now. My son has said that martial arts, and specifically this dojo, have taught him the value of putting in the work and not just doing the bare minimum. He’s grown so much in his physical, mental and emotional discipline and dedication and has gained a great group of friends. The instructors and community are wonderful and we’re so happy to have found this dojo!

This has been a really great place for my kiddo, He comes in and puts his shoes away, ties his belt and gets to work! I can tell it builds his confidence and body awareness. I love that they can get my five-year-old to meditate! Great staff and Brad has always been incredibly kind and patient and knowledgeable.

My daughter and I both take classes at Boulder Karate. The instructors here are extremely thoughtful, attentive, and are highly experienced teachers in traditional and practical martial arts. I've watched my daughter quickly build her confidence every time she attends these classes, and they have been extremely beneficial for me for staying in shape and doing something that I love. I highly recommend families to check out Boulder Karate and join. It will make you more coordinated, more confident, and you'll have a blast doing it!

My son joined Boulder Karate about 5 months ago after attending a free trial class and it's been a really positive experience. The combination of physical activity with mental discipline has been helpful for my son, not only in karate, but extending to other aspects of his life. One of his caregivers recently noted how she can see improved focus and behavior since he started karate. The close knit community and passion of the Boulder Karate team create a fun and motivating environment. As an added bonus, the classes are conveniently timed with plentiful options for busy families juggling many kid activities, school, work, etc.

My son overcame a whole mental health crisis last year, lost his father and was diagnosed with Autism and Adhd. After a year of hard work and transitions, he really wanted to go to Boulder Karate. He has been welcomed and thriving there ever since. He has been celebrated, found acceptance and community, and such pride there. I have seen incredible improvement in his behavior and his whole demeanor since embarking on his Martial Arts Journey at Boulder Karate. He loves loves loves, loves being apart of Boulder Karate. I highly recommend this Incredible Family Dojo that really has something special that it cultivates into the children and adults studying there. I'm forever grateful to Boulder Karate. They have filled a huge void in my sons life and equipped him with so much love, support, and guidance and the gift of learning Karate. His life has been made whole and he strives looks forward each week to his lessons. He so goal oriented and found family there. Thank you Boulder Karate .💕

My daughter started here over the last year after moving to Boulder. The lessons have not only given her a positive activity that is physically and mentally challenging, but has also helped her to develop a new group of friends and build her confidence. Her instructors have been very friendly and supportive and maintain a fun and positive attitude during her lessons. While she can’t take me in a fight yet, I am certain that it is only a matter of time before she crushes me in hand to hand combat.

If you are in Boulder area and considering martial arts you wanna try a session at Boulder Karate! Master Randolph and team have established a great sense of community, discipline, rigor, and fun.
Our 6-year old son started here about 6 months ago and it's been a while he is talking about the Karate island in his mind, borrowing 'island' concept from 'inside out' movie. He is always excited about going for his classes and working with all sensei's; for his age and level they are usually older students of the club and they do amazing!

This place was amazing! The instructor was kind enough to host an event for my sorority and she taught us very necessary skills of self protection in the event of bad situations. She went through the basics of self-defense and what do in certain situations and I am so grateful she took the time to provide us with these lessons! Overall such a great instructor!!

Our experience with Boulder Karate has been top-notch. The Senseis and Master Randolph are responsive, positive, personable and energetic. As soon as you walk into BK there’s a palpable buzz of productivity. Our son struggles with focus and confidence, and since starting at BK, has increased his stamina for physical activity, mental challenge, and perseverance. In addition to caring for the practice of martial arts, the staff also cares about holistic wellness, fitness and FUN. If you want to be a part of a vibrant community where your child will enhance their skillset through strong partnerships with families and the Dojo, choose Boulder Karate!

I'm a grandmother, retired, but, for a year now, I've held a job as Taxi driver from South Boulder to Boulder Karate and back. This has given me plenty of opportunities to observe the activities in the Dojo - and what I've seen has deeply impressed me - and has made me happy!
Discipline, paired with patience, empathy, and much individual teacher/student interaction: students are learning important lessons for life while having so much fun!
What great teaching skills Brad (aka Master Randolph) and his assistants display: personal relationships to each of their students, knowing all their names, and the names of the parents and grandparents! Great abilities to interact and connect!
More and more I realize, that, even me, is becoming a member of a large, harmonious, and happy family.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you, especially to the Master who has created
this great environment...
With all my best wishes that this may continue brightly into the future!

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Boulder Karate. Our daughters have learned so much from the very experienced group of Sensei's, and absolutely love going to their lessons each week. The Sensei's are welcoming, knowledgable, and our daughters look up to them as mentors. Master Randolph has created a wonderful and inclusive space, and we're so glad we found this community.

My husband and I have been at Boulder Karate for nearly three years, and we both love training there. On the martial arts side, I’m always impressed by Boulder Karate’s constant striving to make sure their techniques are practical and effective, scrutinizing the curriculum to make sure it’s as good as it can be. Fitness is a huge portion, and while it’s a fun and engaging way to stay active, they also really emphasize pushing yourself mentally to grow in character and become resilient, which has been important for me. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming (and all the instructors are so knowledgeable!), and we feel that we have found a really wonderful and solid community of great people at Boulder Karate. As someone with prior martial arts experience, I think you can tell a lot about a dojo by their teen and black belt programs, and both of them are strong and vibrant with people who continue to train at Boulder Karate. I couldn’t be happier that we are training with them.

Boulder karate has the two most important things a dojo can have: great instructors and a great community. All senseis are very friendly and welcoming to new students. For a twenty-something year old CU student such as myself, there are plenty of adults to train with. Combat Fitness class in particular provides a consistently challenging workout. I am also forever indebted to Boulder Karate for introducing me to the glory of Colorado’s 14ers through their annual Climb for Cancer charity fundraiser. Those hikes, and Master Randolph’s high rank belt tests, are truly unforgettable experiences. In short, I came for the karate, stayed for the people, and got a lot more than I expected.

Our daughter has been training with Master Randolph and the Boulder Karate family for 6 years and will be testing for her black belt in the spring. While Master Randolph has been an amazing karate sensei, he's been so much more. He's also a strong advocate, cheerleader and mentor. Under his kind and knowledgeable guidance, our daughter's confidence, physical strength and amazing talent as a martial artist have soared (a dad can brag, right?). I'll be joining Master Randolph's white belt ranks soon and can't wait for my black belt daughter to teach me a thing or two! If you're thinking martial arts for your kiddos or yourself, our experience with Boulder Karate has been amazing - can't recommend it more highly!

Boulder karate’s vehicle today was driving so aggressively towards others on the road it makes me wonder about the company. Aggressively tailing everyone, crossing multiple lanes at once, and so on. Did this person not realize everyone around them saw exactly what company this represents?

My kids started five weeks ago, and they really enjoyed it. They would discuss the moves that they learned after class and would guess what they would have for this week. All the Sensi there are nice and responsible. Boulder Karate teaches kids integrity, self-control, attitude, heart and respect. After I saw their training, I could not resist to try by myself. I feel I am young again and can sleep better at night. It is never too late to start!

My daughter has been attending for about 9 months. In this time, I have seen improvement in focus, memory, and most importantly, she has found something that she really enjoys. In karate , she is able to see what she can achieve with hard work, practice, and persistence, and also be proud of herself what she has learned so far. She has gained confidence about herself. It's amazing to see what a person can achieve when they do something they truly enjoy.

My experience with this dojo has been amazing! As a kid/teen I was heavily involved in martial arts, but I hadn't practiced for nearly a decade before signing up. I initially intended to take a few trial classes at several dojos in the area, but after a 30 minute session with Sensei Joanne I knew I'd found the right dojo for me.

The basic lesson plan includes unlimited access to group classes which emphasizes basic fitness and general skills such as kicks and self defense, and also a weekly private lesson with one of the Senseis any time of the week where you learn all the new material for your rank and get personalized feedback. After seeing this system in action, I can't understand why this isn't common practice at more dojos.

Speaking of things that should be common practice at dojos, Boulder Karate really prioritizes protecting the body. I've seen grandmasters in my previous traditions with gnarled arthritic hands from the drills they taught, and I have a minor hip injury from being told to hold kicks above my head for extended periods of time. Martial arts and excercise should improve the body, not destroy it. And at Boulder Karate, all the instructors but especially Sensei Joanne are vigilant about how the body should and shouldn't move, and traditional techniques have been tweaked to make them easier on the body. We even have a couple of adults whose private lessons are physical therapy sessions for previous injurys.

Finally, all the instructors are super charismatic, but they are given enough leeway in how they run their classes that group lessons always feel different. One day Sensei Kaley will have us doing bag drills until we're gasping for air, the next Sensei Jon will have us tweaking our self defense techniques to think on our feet. I seriously doubt you can find a better dojo in the entire state. If you're even considering it, you should attend a free private lesson you won't be disappointed.

Martial arts are great for both mental and physical fitness, and Boulder Karate is a superb dojo for martial arts training. Our son tried several sports, but hit gold when he tried Boulder Karate five years ago,:he found a combination of physical rigor, goal-setting, and mental challenge in a supportive environment. Master Randolph's enthusiasm, drive, and intuitive understanding of how to motivate kids (and adults) sets a great tone, and Sensei Jon and Sensei Kaley are both amazing with kids and rigorous artists on their own. Even during the pandemic, Boulder Karate has done a great job: they're offering great zoom classes and zoom lessons that have kept our son active and progressing in his studies. Master Randolph and both Senseis are always willing to go the extra mile (or five) to help kids learn!

Boulder Karate is an amazing place for adults and kids who are interested in sharpening their karate skills. In this time while we are in a pandemic, they have taken the utmost care in order to keep the students and the teachers safe. They are taking the health of their students very seriously with blocked out areas for each student for in-person classes and they have daily zoom classes as well. As an emergency physician, I am very impressed by their attention to the matter that we are in a pandemic with this contagious virus. My son feels safe going to his private lessons and is taking one group lesson in person per week.
They are definitely keeping to their 5 values: self control, attitude, integrity respect and Heart.

Taking classes at Boulder Karate over the last 7 years has been great for my son--physically of course, but equally for his mood and sense of accomplishment. He wasn't a kid who spontaneously exercised, so finding an activity he loves was a big relief. He’s always so up after class, and excited when he masters a new skill.
Master Randolph, Sensei Jon, and Sensei Kayla provide a real sense of belonging. Their Zoom classes have been especially precious during a pandemic that can make us feel sluggish and isolated. They've done a great job keeping my son and the dojo going!

I joined Boulder Karate one year ago yesterday. It just so happened to coincide with a fund-raising hike (donating to cancer and COVID relief) with students, instructors, and friends hiking up one, two, or for a few of us three 14ers. It was a good day to reflect on what the last year of training at Boulder Karate (Shaolin American Kempo) has given me - there is strong emphasis on fitness (a year ago I couldn’t have imagined being this fit); the instruction is top-notch bringing to students decades of experience, consistently positive instructor attitude, and a practical and structured (yet flexible and inquisitive) approach to self-defense, and tailored instruction and sparring appropriate to each individual’s ability and willingness to go hard / be pushed hard. Among instructors, and students too, there is a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for martial arts and all that they have to offer to each individual. As you advance here, you truly feel that you have earned your belt - though for me, it’s not about the belt, it’s the day-to-day experience of working with Master Brad Randolph and the other instructors and fellow students that I look forward to. I started my then six year-old daughter here (they also have great kids programs/instruction!) and a few months later I joined myself - it’s no doubt one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PLACE! Our son goes here and when COVID started they obviously closed. We then tried to reach them again and again, in order to cancel our subscription, but they never got back to us. We heard from other parents they had the same experience. While we understand that this is a difficult time for them, it is difficult for everyone, and we cannot afford paying $200 every month for a class my son is not taking! To cancel the subscription i would have to report my card as stolen, and re-instate all monthly payments with many different places. Why do i have to do such a think? can't they do the right thing and get back to those who asked to cancel their subscription? I will not be back - and if you are looking for a place that would respect you even during difficult times, seek elsewhere.

I think as a woman, I can tend towards shrinking my body rather than occupying space unapologetically. Going to the dojo usually resets my perspective. #mentalhealth.

Boulder Karate is an amazing community with a positive environment. At Boulder Karate they teach important values such as integrity, self control, respect, heart, and good attitude. The Master in charge is a sixth degree black belt with decades of experience. When being taught under him and the other instructors you will be sure to thrive. I would love to add to my previous review - while Boulder Karate has a great program for martial arts, I am impressed with their summer camp program. The kids learn karate, have enough chill time, do arts, and more importantly have fun! It is amazing to see how comfortable my kids are at the camp. The Sensei in-charge gives the kids homework to do - which includes showing respect, integrity, and other values that the DOJO boasts about. It's good to see the kids working hard to get the signature after they have been respectful all evening towards the parents. The camp is very very flexible, no hang ups if you drop off the kids a little early, and they provide healthy snacks for kids, and Friday - order pizza for the kids. I could go on and on about their summer camps, but in a week, I am super impressed, and give them a big thumbs up.

Love this place. My older son (8) started in March, 2018 and younger one (5) followed in couple of months. So far, I have only awesome things to say about this place. While they are proud of awesome stances, kicks, and punches, what I love is how much time the Sensei spend on enforcing good behavior/discipline/teach them how to handle bullies, and any other issues that come up. It is nice to have such a wide variety of lessons (different days/different time each day) for each age-group - makes scheduling much easier (both of us work full-time) and my kids practice 2-3 days/week. The unlimited deal is a score in addition to the sibling discount. As a working parent, I do use the wi-fi to finish up on email/work/or anything else on my TODO list :)

This is the best kid/adult/family activity in town! Sensei Kaley and Sensei Jerry are super awesome teachers. I love the way they teach and have positive attitude toward their students. I also love their sense of humor. My son loves going to the class all the time. My 5.5 year old boy is always very sweet and caring. However, he was very easy to be pushed around by classmates due to lack of self-confidence. About a year ago, we enrolled him to Boulder Karate to see whether he can gain some self-confidence. After a year training, my little boy learnt how to stand his ground when someone tried to bully him, and he even helped out other kids who were being bullied. Boulder Karate didn’t only build up my son's self-confidence, it also taught him about dedication and determination, self-control and positive attitude. My son practices every day to master all the skills he learnt in the class. I haven’t seen any kids at this age having this level of dedication and concentration. He also inspired his 2 year old little brother! My 2 year old joined to try some punches and kicks while his older brother was practicing. Lately, I’ve started taking classes too! My son was so happy when I practiced with him! I enjoy so much practicing and sharing karate skills with my kid every day. It is definitely our favorite family bonding activity. Thank you, Boulder Karate!

I used to go here for Karate. It was the best decision that I made when I was very little. To other students who are learning, good luck, and keep on working hard!

I clearly remember my first encounter with Sensei Kaley at a Boulder Creek Festival, where she completely won over my little girl with a bright smile and her description of what she could achieve If she joined. We attended our first class a few weeks later, and,, my now 11-yr-old is about to take her brown belt test! I can’t rave enough about how well the senseis work with the kids, drawing them in, teaching them discipline and grace, while having a blast. The place is so well-run and operates like a business should, with excellent services that are so worth the price. It’s efficient and pleasant. I watch tiny kids all the way to older adults practicing their art at Boulder Karate. If you or your kids (or your parents!) want to do karate - this is the place to go. They offer a free first class, so you have everything to gain.

I just wanted to thank everyone at the dojo for the emphasis put on saying, "NO!" loudly and firmly.
People say how important it is, but I had never used it and didn't realize how effective it actually can be.
While my friend from out of state, my boyfriend, and I were walking down 28th street a man was selling paintings on the sidewalk. He asked if we wanted to buy some and we said no politely and gestured with our hands we weren't interested. I admit I didn't realize he was following us until my friend said, "I can't believe he's still following us." That freaked me out and I realized how unaware I really was even though I thought I was aware of my surroundings. I turned around and very firmly (basically shouted) "NO THANK YOU!" and he absolutely froze, eyes wide and everything. He was definitely not expecting the shortest of us to say something. Then he turned and immediately went back to where he originally was.
So thank you. I think actually shouting it in the dojo was what actually made it easy for me to shout right then and there.
I started here by taking the Women's Self Defense Course and then I started taking karate classes here. Everyone is so warm and helpful. I never feel bad about having to ask a question. There is always something new to learn and I highly recommend this place as a great place to learn. grow, feel community, and as a place to learn karate responsibly. It's a very safe environment and I've learned so much. There is clearly so much commitment to keeping it an amazing dojo and it shows.

The party was very well organized, the games captured everyone's attention, and the kids all got a karate lesson. The best part was seeing our 5 year old cut her cake with a sword! She hasn't stopped talking about it since. Our daughter has had a wonderful experience at Boulder Karate overall, it's really given her a lot of confidence and pride in what her body can do. Great staff and a great environment for kids.

My daughter has been going to Boulder Karate for about a year. Master Randolph and all the senseis know me and my daughter by name, and have since the month we started. In the winter, our schedule is a bit crazy, but they were able to accomodate us by offering other classes she could attend. Though she started her practice in Tae Kwon Do in the DC area, since moving here she has earned her purple belt in Karate and I'm proud of her for sticking with it. She's made friends at the dojo, and so have I!

Boulder Karate has been great for our family. After my son's first class, he was hooked and has been going 4 days a week on most weeks, rain or shine. I often take him to his classes, so I get to sit and watch. I've been very impressed with the Senseis and teachings styles used with the kids, and Master Randolph is a gem. An environment is created where every child is supported and challenged in beneficial ways. There is a very healthy approach to competition where the kids strive for goals and accomplishments while also celebrating the accomplishments of their classmates. The Senseis are always integrating the 5 values into the classes – attitude, integrity, respect, self-control, and heart – and I'm seeing a positive impact of these values on my son (and the whole family, really!). There is also a strong anti-bullying culture at the school, and useful skills for dealing with bullying are taught, and they also talk about how to not be a bully. My son's self-confidence had tanked after some difficult social experiences, and in the last three months at Boulder Karate I've seen his confidence return. We are pretty thrilled as a family with school. And now I've started taking classes too! :)

There is always such a positive and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are consistently pleasant and really wonderful with the children AND with parents. Boulder Karate has really changed my son's life. He was having focus problems before starting at Boulder Karate and we saw such a great change in him just weeks after his training began. The sensei working with him was phenomenal in knowing what would work best for his needs! They helped me out at home by "challenging" my son to show respect to us at home to earn a reward. This Dojo has really changed our lives!

We are having such a great experience at Boulder Karate! Our 6 year old son was having some attention and behavior difficulty adjusting to kindergarten. A friend recommended martial arts. After just two months of Karate, his classroom behavior has incredibly improved. When we ask how he is doing so much better at school, he replies "it's the karate, Dad." The staff at Boulder Karate are professional, fun, and really care about the kids. It's even the small things...all the staff there know and remember the kid's names so quickly. We couldn't be happier with our experience.

If you have a birthday here make sure you get an email confirmation. We had a misunderstanding for the start time and were very disappointed when they weren't there for the party. However, I must say the dojo and its employees did all they could to make it up to us. They took full responsibility (a rare thing in this day and age) and gave us an opportunity to make it up to my son and his guests.

A young friend of mine has been doing karate at Boulder Karate for several months now. In that time, I've watched this 9-year-old boy overcome his fears and begin to grow into the young man that I always hoped he would become. A few weeks ago, I watched his orange belt test. He faltered in the middle of the testing, became confused, and had a mini-meltdown. I watched with great pride as he righted himself, continued on with the training, and performed admirably. Boulder Karate has helped my young friend bring out something rare in himself — part strength, part courage, part grace under pressure.

I have visited many martial arts studios over the years. This is hands-down the nicest, and cleanest Dojo I've ever been in. Aside from the facility, Master Randolph and the Boulder Karate staff make it a welcoming and energetic environment. I met Master Brad Randolph at the Boulder Creek festival this spring 2016 and I decided to register my 10 years old daughter to one of the summer camp they offered. I had a feeling it will be a good school for her.

Nathalie had so much fun that we decided to join the Dojo to learn more.

After 2 months of taking weekly private and group classes, I have to say that as a Dad and a former teacher, I am extremely impressed and pleased with the high quality of this Karate school.

All Senseis with no exception are wonderful. They are knowledgeable, kind, professional, teaching with compassion the core values of this discipline.

I highly recommend Boulder Karate School. Thank you

Boulder Karate is excellent! Master Randolf has a wonderful dojo and it's clear to us that he deeply cares about all of his students. He easily connects with the students and he is always friendly and willing to take time for any and all of our needs and questions as parents. It is obvious that Master Randolf loves karate and his job and that his love is passed on to his students and instructors. Boulder Karate feels more like a family than a business. I love the atmosphere at the dojo!
Our daughter began karate at age four and a half and she has had the opportunity to train with many of the senseis. All of the senseis have been great. They do a great job keeping things really fun while still pushing my daughter to try her hardest and focus on the five core values (attitude, integrity, respect, self control and heart). Also,we love how the senseis make kids really earn their belts but how getting the next belt is never the main focus - they really honor effort and the journey the greatest.
Karate is a great physical outlet for our daughter's energy. Karate absolutely helps her feel more focused and centered during the week. It has been exciting to see our daughter develop a greater sense of confidence in herself and her body. And her self discipline and patience has grown noticeably. I would, and very often do, recommend Boulder Karate to anyone who has ever wondered if karate might be right for them or their child.
We are grateful to have found Boulder Karate! Thanks senseis!

In traditional martial arts, the history of a culture is in infused into the student as they learn techniques, principles, and ideals that have been passed down from generation to generation. When i sought to instill my daughter with a sense of safety, security & confidence, I found my efforts take me to Boulder Karate. The instruction found there has been shining star of taking those principles and applying them in a positive and fun environment. From it's ninja skilled band of instructors, to it's all of it's smiling students, Boulder Karate makes an impact in life!

After a number of years in taekwondo, I came to this dojo looking to try a different style. It was hands down the best decision I have ever made. Of all the places I have trained, Boulder Karate is, by far, the best. The instructors here are fantastic. They are not only highly skilled and gifted, patient teachers; they are also genuinely enthusiastic about what they do. The students here are inclusive, welcoming, and friendly, and always willing to work hard and have fun. The style itself, Shaolin Kempo, is a unique and multi-layered art with interesting influences from both karate and kung fu. There is a lot of room for learning material outside of that required of your rank, and the opportunity to have a weekly private lesson was a huge draw for me. It allows for highly individualized training, and really lets the senseis get to know you and your learning style and interests. The stress relief and clarity I experience from every single class is pretty much responsible for getting me through my doctoral program. Additionally, the senseis sought out a relationship with Grandmaster Jim Brassard, a 10th degree black belt well known in the kempo world. It has been truly remarkable and exciting to see the growth that this dojo has made as a result of this relationship. It took something that was already fabulous, and made it even better.

My day job takes me all the way to the southernmost edge of metro Denver every day, and I still make the hour+ commute to get to class, because they are that good. I encourage anyone looking to train martial arts, regardless of age or experience level, to come to this dojo. It is totally worth it.

I love Boulder karate. I’m not really an athletic person, so sports has never been my thing. I used to be really shy, too, and not overly confident about myself. I also wasn’t too excited about joining karate, but after just a couple of weeks, I changed my mind. Being at this dojo has helped me in so many ways. It’s great as exercise, not just self-defense, and I am way more confident in myself and my abilities now. I am a much more confident person now overall than I was before I started. I have met some great people there, both the senseis and the students; everyone is so willing to offer advice and encouragement-it’s great. Now I look forward to every karate class I can go to each week.

My son (age 6) started at Boulder Karate the end of August 2013. He has gone from a boy with relatively low self esteem who did not like school to a boy beaming with pride and now loves school. He loves going to karate class and loves learning his moves. He takes his lessons very seriously but also has so much fun. The teachers are absolutely wonderful - especially Sensei Walker who has really brought my son a long way. The teachers hold a good balance between having fun, learning the art of karate, and teaching respect and discipline. Boulder Karate is an excellent martial arts studio. I have been training at Boulder Karate for nearly three years now and consider it to be a fantastic place to train. They will give you rigorous work outs set to strengthen your body and mind, and have helped me incredibly in my rehabilitation for my chronic knee and shoulder injuries. They are very understanding in one's limits, and will push you to improve and strengthen your body.

Though the art they train is Shaolin Kempo, they are very flexible to their students needs and interests. They will teach you what you want to know, be it Thai Chi or basic Self-defense. They have a variety of instructors with different personalities and training methods prepared to teach all ages. They work excellently with both kids and adults due to their well trained instructors and their incredible patience. Additionally, they focus on teaching each of their students "the Five Values" of Boulder Karate (Attitude, Integrity, Respect, Self-control, and Heart). It is remarkable to see the affect these teachings have on the younger students as they develop discipline through the study of the martial art.

While being a great professional studio, Boulder Karate understands the necessity of fun in an extracurricular activity. The instructors fill their lessons with a healthy dose of knowledge and fun in every class. They understand that people do karate for more than just discipline and self-defense and offer plenty of other opportunities to train while still working out. They offer a variety of weapons from the bo staff to broad sword to monk spade. They are determined to make sure you are developing the skills you want, while still maintaining a safe atmosphere.

The atmosphere of Boulder Karate is very welcoming as well as safe. The instructors are very aware of their students and make sure that everyone is practicing their art safely and properly. Here I have witnessed fewer injuries than any other studio or sport. The instructors do whatever they can to protect their students from injury by allowing them to do exercises that will strengthen them, and being aware of the students needs. I can speak for this personally with my current injuries. The instructors allow me to do my therapeutic exercises rather than further injuring myself during the daily work out.

Their scheduling of lessons is also very flexible. They offer a weekly private lesson as well as at least three group classes, which is more than most martial arts studios. With the one-on-one lesson you are able to work individually with a trained instructor that will further help you develop what you need in your training. These private lessons are available to be scheduled throughout the entire day, into the evening allowing you to training after work or school.

This studio is a great, flexible place to develop yourself physically and mentally. There is definitely a reason why it has been vote Best of Boulder two years running.

I recently joined Sensai Brad Randolph’s dojo, Boulder Karate. I have been learning and teaching martial arts for more than 30 years. I have obtained black belt rankings in Shaolin Kempo, American Kenpo and Tae Kwon Do. My instructors through the years have been the finest for which I am most grateful. I was privileged to study Shaolin Kempo from Grandmaster Fred Villari, Master John Gilbert and Master John Fritz. From Grandmaster Ed Parker, Master Frank Trejo, Master Lee Wedlake, Master Richard “Huck” Planas, Doctor John LaTourette and famous knife-maker Master Gil Hibben, American Kenpo. I studied under Master Bob Gallagher the style of Tae Kwon Do.
Now I am working with Sensai Brad Randolph at Boulder Karate who has become affiliated with Grandmaster Jim Brassard, of Shaolin American Kenpo. Sensai Brad with guidance from Grandmaster Bressard is teaching the mastering of a variety and blend of styles, a practice with which I am familiar and believe will carry on the skills, philosophies, and techniques integral to the essential practice of martial arts.
I admire the harmonious balance Sensai Brad Randolph teaches by incorporating physical fitness and healthy well-being as much as self-defense. Sensai Brad and his excellent instructors bring out the best in his students both physically and mentally. He instills in his students the importance of responsible behavior. Because dead is dead, whether it’s from a heart attack or a mugger.
After 30 years in Martial Arts I am so appreciative when I leave with the gift of having learned to implement a new movement that is unexpected. That has happened to me through Sensai Brad.
I am thrilled and honored to be a member of Boulder Karate/Alpine Martial Arts.

Been going to this school since late 2008, and I've been really happy about where I've been training. Sensei Brad Randolph and his expert team of senseis train to help you better yourself not just at martial arts, but in life. Having gone through several dojos and trained in a few other styles, I can honestly say, this is a great system! Not only do you learn techniques that have been passed down through other Shaolin American Kempo systems, but you're also learning directly from 10th degree instruction.

The saying is true: "You get what you pay for." You get a private lesson per week, plus your standard class instruction - several hours of cardio and group instruction. What are you waiting for? Stop making excuses to get off your butt and get some exercise. Why not get some exercise and have fun while doing it?

Stop in for a free month. You'll be kicking yourself in the butt wondering, "Why didn't I ever think of this sooner?" Stop reading this review, and GO!

Boulder Karate is a very fine school for three reasons.
First, Brad Randolph and his teaching staff have established a very good atmosphere at the school. The atmosphere is at the same time friendly, fun and serious about learning karate. The instructors know their students as individuals and therefore they can challenge them in supportive ways.
Second, the atmosphere at Boulder Karate has attracted an excellent group of students who are easy and fun to work with and yet accomplished martial artists.
Finally, the style of karate, Kempo, is deep and very interesting. It will repay with dividends a student’s efforts.

The lessons I have learned at Boulder Karate have been invaluable. When I first began training in 2010, I wanted to learn how to fight and break boards. I’ve since learned both, but more importantly, I have learned that it’s better not to fight. My Senseis at Boulder Karate have taught me so much more than I ever expected to learn from Martial Arts. I have a much greater confidence in my physical abilities and get an intense, efficient work-out every time I attend karate. Boulder Karate has been an excellent outlet for anger and stress, and has helped me harness my competitive nature into a positive force rather than a negative one. Perhaps the most important thing I can say about Boulder Karate is that it’s fun! No matter how I feel when I arrive at the dojo, I always leave with a smile on my face. Boulder Rules!

Last year my oldest son was having a really difficult time. He was diagnosed with ADD, mostly having to cope with being overwhelmed by life changes and the increased challenge of a new school. Our homeopathic doctor recommended martial arts as part of our approach to help him become a happier, healthier kid. After talking to several martial arts studios in the area, I knew Boulder Karate was the right fit. The instructors are fun and relatable, while maintaining high standards of expectation in students. Less than a year later, I have a kid whose confidence is much higher, has better coping skills, like meditation, breathing techniques and a really cool physical movement practice. He is adopting a real sense of loyalty to practice equaling reward. I must mention that he and adores the senseis. We love Boulder Karate!

I previously trained in another style for six years, and the instructor just seemed like he was in business to make money. This is simply not true at Boulder Karate (Alpine Martial Arts). Mr. Randolph, Sensei Keegan, and rest of the sensei team truly love martial arts. The instructors here are some of the best I have ever seen. I earned a second degree black belt at another dojo, and within a few months of being here they found some bad habits that I had and helped me to correct them. I haven't even been here half as long as I was at the other dojo and I feel that I have learned SO much more than I ever did at my other dojo. With the addition of Grand Master Jim Brassard training Mr. Randolph and visiting our dojo, I can only see the learning happening faster. I feel that everyone who comes to this dojo, especially the instructors, truly want to be here and love the time they spend here. That being said, these instructors spend a lot of their time here. In addition to the extensive class schedule they offer Ninja Nights where they stay over 24 hours at the dojo playing games with all who attend. The instructors are enthusiastic and friendly, and this energy clearly transfers to the rest of the dojo. They will let you try the dojo out before you join, and I am sure that after your trial you will agree with the motto of the dojo, "Boulder Rules!"

There aren’t any words that could ever adequately describe how fantastic Boulder Karate is! This dojo literally became a life saver for my son, who lost his father tragically at the age of 12. He struggled to deal with, not only his grief, but also at the anger of being a teenager with no father and no understanding of why his father’s death happened. I struggled to help him through this ugly time but I could only do as much as a mom of a teenage boy can. So, he just got bitter and angrier. Then he enrolled in a karate class at his high school taught by Sensei Keegan and a whole new world suddenly opened up for him! He ended up joining an amazing place that has become a second home to him where the senseis have given him a positive direction and fostered a potential in him to excel in life (he’s actually almost a sensei himself at the tender age of 16). They treat the youngest and the oldest students equally with respect and encouragement. There is always humor and playful banter alongside the sweating and exhaustion during classes and you can expect constructive discipline for those who need to be put back in line (as my son can attest to)! Sensei Brad, with his ever present smile, and Sensei Keegan, with his amazing patience, expect hard work, discipline and even good grades from him! They have unwittingly filled the void that not having a father has created in him and as his mother, I couldn’t be happier to see my boy happy and thriving again! Throw in Board Breaking, tournaments, specialized classes, Black Belt Club, Kempo Club and Ninja Night (to name a few of the extras) and it isn’t hard to see why Boulder Karate is truly the best dojo in Boulder! BOULDER RULES!!
