Staff was unperfessoinal and quite rude, even though me and my buddy were technically 5 months under the gym requirement we had lifted there for months, I do understand a warning. But then proceeded to be kicked out in a rude and unprofessional manner. We previously had no issues, caused no disturbances and remained respectful to the space. Besides this event boulder rock club is a awesome facility and place.

My favorite gym in Boulder. As someone with a weird schedule I love the auto-belays. The staff is always so friendly, the routes are interesting and reset often, and the gym equipment is top notch. When I first moved to Boulder I spoke with the gentleman at the front desk for a few minutes and he remembered my name two weeks later when I returned. There is a real community feel here, and the fact that they have so many employees who have been there for many years shows that they take care of their people.

***Unwelcoming and Unprofessional Behavior***
***Defamatory Response by Kevin Bains Below***
This is my first Google review, and unfortunately, itβs not a positive one.
I recently visited Boulder Rock Club while exploring local climbing gyms. Upon arrival, I urgently needed to use the restroom. I was almost at the bathroom when a staff member loudly yelled out, asking where I was going, and told me that I needed to inform him before using it, which felt unnecessary given the situation.
A minute later, the general manager, Kevin Bains, approached me in the restroom with more questions, mentioning issues theyβve had with homeless individuals using the facilities. I found this irrelevant and insulting, especially since I donβt remotely look homelessβthough, even if I did, I would hope for more respect than Kevin Bains offered.
I shared that I was visiting after witnessing the loss of a friend in a climbing accident and was hoping to find a welcoming community. Instead of offering empathy, Kevin told me this gym would not be a welcoming environment for me and asked me to leave. He also seemed more focused on my choice of words when expressing frustration than addressing the situation itself.
As someone with years of climbing experience and involvement in the community as a respected member, Iβve never encountered such an unwelcoming atmosphere at a gym. If you're looking for a supportive and respectful environment, Iβd recommend exploring other options.
***Update: Defamatory Response and Request for Transparency***
After posting my initial review regarding my unpleasant experience at Boulder Rock Club, I was surprised to see the response from the management, specifically from Kevin Bains, which contains several inaccuracies and misrepresentations of what occurred during my visit. Rather than handling the situation professionally, Kevinβs response paints me as an angry customer who yelled at, threatened, and insulted othersβclaims that are completely inaccurate.
I came to the gym seeking solace after the loss of a friend, hoping for a welcoming environment, but instead, I have been met with defamation.
In the interest of transparency and fairness, I have formally requested video footage from the lobby to clarify the actual events. This footage will show that the portrayal of my actions in their response is not accurate, and I hope it will lead to a more truthful and professional discussion.
I stand by my original review, which reflects my genuine experience, and I hope the management will reconsider how they handle such situations in the future, addressing concerns with more respect and accuracy.

Scaling New Heights: Boulder Rock Club.
Nestled in the north of Boulder, the Boulder Rock Club stands as a testament to the city's vibrant climbing community. This amazing rock climbing gym boasts authentic fue rock walls made of concrete, offering climbers a truly immersive and exhilarating experience.
One of the standout features of Boulder Rock Club is its diverse range of climbs, catering to climbers of all skill levels. From challenging routes for seasoned climbers to easier paths for beginners, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
For those flying solo, the gym offers 11 auto belays, allowing climbers to tackle the walls without the need for a partner. It's a fantastic way to stay active and engaged, even if you're climbing solo.
Families with kids will find the upstairs kids section to be a true gem. With a wide variety of climbing options tailored specifically for little ones, it's the perfect place to introduce children to the thrill of climbing in a safe and controlled environment.
But Boulder Rock Club isn't just about climbing. The gym also features a weight lifting area and offers yoga classes, providing a well-rounded fitness experience for members.
What truly sets Boulder Rock Club apart, however, is its welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff. Whether you're a seasoned climber or a complete novice, the staff are always on hand to offer guidance and support, making every visit a positive and memorable experience.
And with membership prices that won't break the bank, Boulder Rock Club makes it easy for climbers to pursue their passion without breaking the budget.
In conclusion, Boulder Rock Club is a must-visit destination for anyone with a love for climbing. With its authentic rock walls, wide range of climbs, and welcoming atmosphere, it's a place where climbers of all ages and abilities can come together to push their limits and forge new connections. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the thrill of climbing at Boulder Rock Club.

BRC is pretty solid.
The gym area is really nice, far surpassing The Spot Boulder (the other climbing gym BRC is usually being compared too). And unlike Movement Boulder, BRC has auto-belays so you don't need a partner to rope climb. BRC also has a small lounge area where you could theoretically work from (free WIFI) and free coffee and tea for members every morning until 11am.
The biggest downside to BRC I'd say is that it's really a rope-climbing gym. The bouldering area has a lot to be desired if comparing it to The Spot. Which in BRC's defense, The Spot Boulder is a bouldering-specific gym. And though there are auto-belays, there's only about 1/2 dozen (I think?) so unless you have a partner to climb with most the climbing is inaccessible to you.
On a side note, I do find the crowd at BRC about 20'ish years older than that at The Spot too. I received a free week at BRC after taking one of their belay classes and thoroughly enjoyed my time.

Great experience! We came in the morning, did the lead test, then we bouldered and did top rope and lead. The quality of the routesetting and the holds was very good. The staff was friendly. The mats were good quality. The walls are a bit slippery, old school style. There was not a lot of visual appeal among the routes, but they all ended up being fun. The grading was accurate for what you'd expect for a gym around here. The day pass without gear was $25. I liked the natural light in the facility. They have an amazing kids area, which I did not utilize but saw they have many routes and even a real rock wall.

Old, outdated, and bit dirty. The climbs are short and they havenβt bought a new hold since 1996 it seems. The setting is decent, the staff is good and friendly, and the culture is pretty great and welcoming.
However with the other gyms so close in the area, it feels bit like this gym is stuck in time. I feel like I get more from Amy other gym around.
Update: Pushed another star in there. they replied to my review quickly, which demonstrates they care what their climbers really think. As mentioned, staff and culture here are quite good.

Had a poor experience with my visit here. 26$ is an absurd price for a day pass. Why canβt you use that cash to fix the AC. Itβs so humid in the gym I walked in and my glasses genuinely fogged up. It smelled really bad, even for a gym. The route setting was uninspired at best.

Lots of routes and problems to choose from but man you really need to keep your head on a swivel and be aware of climbers above. So much packed into the space it could be overwhelming to some. So I've been here in Colorado for about 2 years now and started climbing as a new climber at the BRC.
I have also at times climbed at movement, the spot and Ubergrippen with friends in addition to climbing at other gyms out of state when I am not in Colorado. And let me tell you, the BRC is in a league of its own in terms of quality. It certainly isn't the biggest, newest, or flashiest gym but everything about it is top notch.
I think the thing that is fantastic and distinctive with the BRC are the route setters. Other gyms just don't know how to do it. All the routes in the BRC are creative and thought out with lots of different varieties in terms of the type of difficulties you will face. Routes have a theme and a reason to exist in the way that they do. They feel awesome to climb unlike every other gym I have been to.
Whatever the BRC does, I hope they continue to do it because it is awesome!

The routes here are well set, and fun. As a mainly outdoor trad climber, I have to cast a disbelieving eye at the route ratings, but of course that's neither here no there. The associated side-gym is rather small, so this should really be considered mainly a climbing gym overall, but it excels at that. It's a good way to stay in form when the blizzards are blowing.

An all around fantastic climbing gym! Dynamic route setting, friendly staff, and the training gym actually has deadlift platforms/a variety of lifting equipment (a rarity at other gyms around the area). They also have solid technical classes for learning to lead, set anchors, etc. as well as bi-weekly yoga. Took their lead class a few weeks ago; our coach Corey was an encouraging teacher and the class made me so much more confident in my climbing! I have been a member and supporting this business for over 15 years. It is extremely difficult to climb in a mask and it makes me dizzy and lightheaded because I have exercise induced asthma. There are plenty of businesses in Boulder and other counties who accept medical conditions for each client case by case and some gyms like Easton have approved mask exemptions from Boulder County for their entire facility.
In restaurants all over the county people are sitting next to each other without masks at all yet in BRC where everyone is 20 plus feet apart with vaulted ceilings and giant exhaust fans running, they take a stand to permanently trespass a long term member when they see the mask pulled down below the nose. The American Disabilities Act protects individuals from this type of discrimination. There were quite a few people in the facility at the time of this incident with there masks down because the effort of climbing hard makes it almost impossible to wear it. However, I was the only one asked to put my mask up, asked to leave and later received the call from the manager that I was trespassed for not keeping my mask up the entire time in the facility.
I did write you an email previously because BRC was requiring employees to wear masks for some time when there was no mandate in place. Several of them told me they did not want to wear them at that time but wanted to keep their jobs and not rock the boat. I sent Kevin the email (Aug 25) on their behalf a full week before the mandate went into effect (sept 1) so your business was not in fact at that time following any rules from the county or state but just your own.
BRC is not fun and light hearted as it used to be. It is very uptight now. A couple of employees have made sarcastic rude remarks to me which I brought to the managers attention to no effect.
I own one of the most successful and fastest growing businesses in Northern Colorado and have been sending clients to BRC for years. I have never received any appreciation or simple thank you so I stopped referring.
I hope BRC in the future is able to rethink their management practices to reflect the needs and wishes of their employees and members.

My partner Petra has been a member of BRC for fifteen years and climbed there 3-4 times a week. Today she was "banned for life" by the manager Kevin Bains because she was having trouble breathing through her mask with her asthma while climbing and had it under her nose. Several other people in the facility were doing the exact same trying to breath while doing difficult climbs and were not treated this way or even asked to pull their masks up. When she was asked to pull her mask up over her nose she simply stated she could not breathe. That is all she said and was not rude as Kevin is claiming.
The email she sent BRC mentioned by Kevin was sent on Aug 25 before the Boulder mandate was even put in effect. At that time, BRC was requiring already for weeks that just their employees wear masks as a business decision not a mandate. Several employees told her they did not want to wear them but were being forced by management so she wrote an email on their behalf - a full week before the county passed the mandate and at a time when almost everyone in every public venue was going maskless.
Many other activity oriented centers in Boulder have mask exemptions in place because they and the city reasonably understand that these activities should be in a different class than shopping at Whole Foods. Given that obvious fact and the intensity of the cardiorespiratory system during climbing, BRC should show some understanding to a person briefly wearing a mask under their nose in a big open space and not ban them permanently for doing so as many, many people are doing this now.
I will also say that the staff there should spend time on something else besides this type of nonsense. I have climbed there for years and they 100% of the time just camp out behind the front desk and do absolutely nothing to check on safety, patrol the facility, help people, interact with climbing members in any way or provide guidance to anyone other than their quick primary belay check for new people.

It's a decent place to climb with a good fitness facilities, although the bouldering area wasn't very big. The bouldering area does not use the standard boulder route rating system, which I was a little disappointed by. Some of the holds seemed to need a little cleaning. I noticed there weren't very many 5.9 routes. I would have liked to see more.

I have been climbing at BRC for a majority of my life, this has never been my home gym, however, I have always tried to visit as frequently as I can. I have always enjoyed the consistent quality of setting, the friendly employees, and most importantly the constant attempts to keep the gym up with the times. This gym was built a while ago, as far as climbing gyms go this gym is ancient, but the one thing that seems to keep them in business is the constant improvements. Small touches like the addition of a moon board before any other gyms in the Denver metro area had one, making a half decent speed wall on an untextured surface, or most recently the addition of solid bouldering pads to replace the drag mats. This gym deserves all yalls support, especially now during COVID, shower this gym with love.

I've held a membership at all of the gyms in Boulder over the years, and BRC is by far the best gym in terms of quality staff, great routes, and awesome amenities, especially for the price you pay.

Love this place, really bummed that all the gyms are closed. Affordable membership, friendly staff, and auto belays are all pluses.

Great people, good times, and a lot of smiles. They do their best to keep climbing affordable and fun. Offering everything from bouldering to fitness classes.

Such a fun place to go rock climbing or have a group event .
Also has a decent weight lifting gym .
I just wish they had a few more beginner stuff , but most of the people seemed fairly advanced so it fit their needs

The route setting here is really varied and very well done. No guest passes for members is a huge bummer.

The BRC, in my opinion, is the best rock gym in Boulder. I've been coming here for 9 years now and I don't ever see myself switching climbing gyms. The staff is wonderful, the route setters are awesome and the vibe is awesome too.

Staff is cool, routes are fun even if you just boulder, tons of belay and autobelay options, weight room filled to the brim with equipment, showers, free coffee until 11?? I will save money by coming here to get my morning cup(s), and I'll get a workout in too! Already being cheaper than anything back home in NC with better amenities and perks makes it hard to beat, AND THEN they hit you with the fact that there's no sign up fee.

Love this place- great routes and enough auto belays to stop by and climb on your own for a bit, but not too many to get in the way when climbing with a partner. The gym is nice and has all the equipment youβd need, and they have a nice schedule of group classes (which I canβt attest to the quality of because Iβve never attended any,) and community events.
I can see how some may find there arenβt enough low level routes, but I kind of prefer that.

Gets pretty busy but everyone who works there is really nice and helpful. A good amount of auto belays for those solo climbers out there.
