This gym used to be fun and welcoming for climbers in the 5.9, 10- range, but not so much lately. They have been consistently replacing these routes with 10+ and above. It seems they're only interested in setting for advanced climbers, to the point that there are entire sections of wall with no approachable routes. Where there are easier routes, they're full. It makes climbing here much less fun.

Not only is this a super awesome place for indoor rock climbing, they also give back to the community! They recently donated day passes to my military nonprofit's suicide prevention dinner.

We love Gripstone! The staff is usually very friendly and they have great hours for members so that it’s easier to bring our small children in to climb. The facilities are very clean, including the bathrooms, and they play nice music in the background. We’ve made so many kind families here while climbing and our family really enjoys the whole experience when we come here.

My 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter attended camp here for 2 days this week. After the first day, they begged me to sign them up for a second session the following day. They loved the rope swing, the climbing challenges, and the friendliness of the staff. I love the non-judgmental and inclusive atmosphere of the gym. The camps are easy to sign up for and available for one day sessions or a full week. Thank you for making summer break more fun for my kids and a little easier for this working mom!!

We were invited by some friends to join them for an afternoon of climbing. One of my teens had an excellent time, and the other had a minor panic attack on his first climb. The staff were so nice and empathetic in a situation where they could have been less understanding. They refunded our money, knowing they didn't have to do so, and were so nice and sweet about the unknown fear of heights. The facility was very clean, well-lit, and everyone seemed to really be enjoying themselves. I highly recommend visiting them as a first-timer or old pro!

I’ve always been terrified of heights like full-on, knees-weak, heart-racing kind of fear. But I’ve made it my mission to face fears head-on, one step at a time.

One day, my husband and I decided to go on an β€œactive” date and picked Gripstone, which happens to be within walking distance of our house. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the friendliest staff and a sparkling clean space. Prices are super reasonable, and if you don’t have gear, they’ll hook you up for a small fee (bonus: gear is included if you sign up for a membership).

Getting up that first little wall? A struggle. Coming down? A full-on panic πŸ™ˆ But then came Ryan ,part climbing expert, part therapist. He calmly walked me through everything and somehow made me believe not only in their gear, but in myself. I kept telling him there’s no way climbing would be my thing and that I definitely wasn’t coming back.

Cut to a few hours later: my husband and I were still talking about how fun it was and yep, I marched right back to Gripstone the same day and signed us up for a trial membership 🀣 Now we try to climb twice a week and have even brought our family to check it out!

Big shoutout to Ryan, the kindest soul and most patient human alive. When fear creeps in, he makes us feel safe, supported, and capable. That man deserves a raise and a medal for turning this Polish skeptic into a (still slightly scared) Polish mountain goat in training πŸπŸ˜‚

My Wife and I came in one Friday for a date. Ryan introduced us to the systems in the gym and went above and beyond with his customer service. He is the biggest reason we ended up signing up for a membership. The welcoming vibes keep you wanting to come back for.

Came here last week and did not have the best experience. I took the top rope belay test and I have done this test at a couple other gyms and have passed with flying colors. After the test was over with, the girl said β€œI’m not going to fail you but I’m not going to pass you either.” I asked what I did wrong and she said β€œyou did nothing wrong, you just need more confidence.” How was she supposed to know how I was feeling and if I did need more confidence, how am I supposed to get that if I can’t practice?? I understand not passing me for a safety related reason, but again she stated β€œyou did nothing wrong and did everything correctly.” She passed me for the day but said if I wanted to come back I’d have to retest. When I was leaving she mentioned she saw my belaying and said β€œit looked awesome.” I think she just wanted to use her authority to tell me no. I definitely will not be coming back to this gym after this experience as this place doesn’t deserve my money. If you want a place with good staff, great vibes and a great facility, check out city rock. Much better climbing gym.

I highly recommend this gym. One of the most welcoming ones I've been to.

Max was a great instructor! Super friendly, knowledgeable, skilled, patient, and accommodating (basically all of the things!). I have a lot of anxiety surrounding trying new things and came in for a beginners class with a few friends feeling not so stoked; but that changed! I left with confidence and now I actually WANT to continue to climb.

What a great climbing gym! So many walls and grip options with access for the very first time beginner, up to the most experienced climber. Not only was it fun to climb, but also to watch others. Friendly and supportive patrons and employees. 2 levels of boldering walls, and gym equipment to use before or after your climbs. It was a busy Friday afternoon and we had to wait and take turns with other climbers. One of us had a monthly membership, which gave us a free climb and rental, the other child was only $29. Great pricing (compared to other gyms we’ve visited)! Also, they have special member hours to ensure you get plenty of time to climb.

First visit. Very nice and helpful staff, lots of variety of wall climbs with auto-belay, top ropes, and lead climbs. They have nice bouldering areas but the main focus is on roped climbs. Everything from beginner 5.5 to 5.12, maybe higher (I wasn't looking for anything that high. Routes have a nice variety of problem types.

The facility is awesome, everything is clean and modern. The staff are undertrained though, most know just enough to climb but aren't experienced at all. Coming from out of state me and and few other climbers were scrutinized for not using their lingo or their exact movement, even though the end results were the same. They also didn't have staff to "validate" us for sport climbing. All in all, it's a good gym, staff just needs to be better trained and learn that there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Facility is nice, climbers are friendly. Staff are a bit suspect. (For context: my friends and I are not indoor climbers, but we all regularly trad multi-pitch climb and we understand any fundamental system that would be involved at an indoor gym.) Showed up first time, signed waivers, asked about lead climbing and was told we would need to test and that only one person there could certify us and then they pointed this female out to us.. we warmed up a bit on auto belay, went to test belay passed after some awkwardness with the tester. Went to test lead and was told there was no one there that could certify us (this is while the one female was sitting there amongst the other handful of employees.) So we walked away and as we were leaving we saw a dude signing for his lead certification.

Lots of auto belays which is nice for a beginner like myself but the staff is unfriendly and that’s a generous term. I took the belay class and went to take the test and the person working was incredibly rude when I used the terms that I was taught ( naming a belay device ) because the person who taught the class β€œ taught it wrong.” Taking the belay test the person rolled their eyes and acted as if I were an idiot the whole time despite knowing the information I was told β€œ I need more muscle memory and I could belay today but need to retest.” I am all about safety but don’t make someone out to be β€œless than” because you’re an expert. I could see beginners turning away from this gym because of how rude the staff are, people are scared to ask questions and learn because of it . A smile would go a long way to say the least.

β˜… 5

Nice gym, clean with friendly staff. A good mix of bouldering, auto belay, and top rope (nearly all the top ropes have draws, so plenty of lead climbing beyond the dedicated lead wall), so easy to go solo or with a group.

Additionally, there are a couple rowing machines, tread mills, weight racks and hang boards for dedicated strength and cardio.

The route setting is generally very good with a variety of styles and at least two anchors get updated per week, so things move at a good pace, but still leaving you about a month on projects (depending on competitions). Overall great home gym or just to hit up for variety.

Writing this candid review as a long time climber.
The gym is nice but it wasn’t for me. There are a lot of great things about this gym. The walls are nice and gritty, there’s a variety of Boulder sections/styles available, there’s a lot of auto belays if you climb alone, your membership includes free lead rope rentals, there’s free parking, the gym is nice (y’all need a cable machine though).
There are also a lot of things I, personally, didn’t like about this gym. The climbing community vibes are just not there. I spent an entire month here and they were never here, iykyk. People keep to themselves and work their projects. If you have a group of people to climb with, then this may not be any issue for you. There are an insane amount of kids here compared to any other gym I’ve been to, the owner continues to comment and defend anyone who says this by saying it’s limited to certain times… and while the parties may be - as I never saw one - I swear to you that it will feel like 70% of gym goers are kids and their parents at all times. It’s either that or a ghost town. For a small gym like this, that’s a lot. And that’s great for some people and for others, it’s not what they are looking for.
Another item, that just depends on your preferences, there just didn’t feel like there were a lot of climbs on the wall. It felt very easy to run out of climbs quickly and be left waiting for setters to reset. Also, you cannot top rope or lead the auto belay routes which means that half the gym isn’t available for you - unless you autobelay. Which is just weird, it doesn’t have to be that way..
also there’s no kilter board or tension board but there is a spray wall.

This gym 100% deserves 4 stars, it’s pretty and clean and has a lot going for it. But it was not the gym for me. Despite being so close to my house, I found myself with no hype to go during my membership. Hopefully this review can objectively help others with their climbing gym decisions.

TLDR: Polished commercial feel, if you can climb over v5 outside skip this gym for bouldering.

They are definitely aiming for beginners, birthday parties, and tourists. The gym was pretty loud and full of kids. The temperature was great and my skin felt good. I only bouldered while visiting and spent most of my time upstairs. I will probably go back over the winter to try their lead climbing.

I flash v4ish outside and project v8, most of the boulder problems were super easy to cruise through. If you climb over v5 outside there isn't much to challenge you.

There were lots of routes, lots of different style problems, and friendly people bouldering. The spray walls were a nice training tool to see and the app worked well.

Visiting for 3 weeks and landed on this being the climbing facility of choice while i'm here! Modern, clean and large climbing gym with up to 50+ft roped climbs, and 17 autobelays. It's also one of the few places that has a regulation speed climb set. Route grading seemed a bit soft overall.

Two bouldering areas, one in the main room with the routes, and a second one upstairs next to the training area. Some comments on forums complaining about the boulder routesetting, but we found the problems interesting and reasonably good at forcing the intended movement.

I had a membership here during the winter of 2022, and have visited a couple times this summer (2023). Here are my thoughts:

Pros:
-The gym is kept clean, and HEPA filters clean the air.
-There is a small, but well stocked workout area upstairs (squat rack, benches, bars, etc.)
-Water fountains have filtered bottle fill units.

Cons:
-I was told I was not allowed to teach my friends how to belay while in their gym, despite the fact we were not climbing at the time. They've stated that this is imposed by their insurance provider, but it's still frankly ridiculous.
-More expensive than other gyms in the city.
-They only allow the use of assisted belay devices when sport climbing/lead climbing.

Routes: For context my "redpoint" is 5.12a and v.6 in this gym.
I've had a blast on a lot of routes here, but by and large, their routes flow the same, and the setting isn't particularly interesting. There are exceptions, of course. Most routes below 5.10a and v4 appear to be hastily thrown up, with very little creativity or diversity. Routes above those grades are usually more technical, but there seems to be an emphasis on powerful moves throughout. There are usually lots of dynos, too.

Atmosphere:
The staff were polite, and mostly understanding of my concerns. Unfortunately they've been made to enforce a couple silly rules, but that's on the company. It honestly feels like the management has never actually gone climbing, and unfortunately that's resulted in a needlessly strict and overbearing environment for both the employees and the customers.

Overall, I might visit in the future, but there would need to be a lot of changes before I considered getting another membership there. Granted, they've come a long way since they first opened, but there's still a ways to go.

Glad to have a large indoor rock climbing gym in the area. Gear rentals were at a reasonable price, lots of auto belays if you are taking on the tall walls, bouldering if you prefer a smaller one, and lead climbing for the more advanced. Cleanest and nicest gym in the area.

The membership fees are more expensive but everything is cleaner, nicer and newer.

There is a lot of parking, which is very very important, people don’t talk about that enough.

Also the lighting is very bright, which is also important, a lot of gyms have bad lighting.

Also it’s not always over crowded, it’s easy to move so you don’t kick a child in the head that’s running around while climbing.

I have my 12yo daughter and 9yo son attend. We started with their after-school class and now have a membership. The staff are amazing, especially with my 9yo son. He has ADHD as well as ODD and gets easily frustrated. During one class he had an especially hard time and when I cam around the corner to see what was going on I saw my son on the floor having a meltdown and one of the instructors with him, reassuring him, telling him it's okay, and just doing an excellent job of diffusing the situation, showing support and seeing my son for who he truly is. This experience alone was enough for me to want my kids here as long as they want. Sincerely, this experience moved me to tears. We've tried other activities, and he would always get discouraged because of the staff not understanding him, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you. He loves climbing and really loves this place.

I went here with my 3 kids for the first time, and we had a blast. I had a groupon, which was what got us through the door. I was really happy with the atmosphere. Some climbing gyms you walk in and immediately feel judged for even thinking about climbing. Haha, I didn't feel that here. Plus, we went mid day on a Saturday, and it wasn't crowded at all! The building is clean, open concept, and overall, just a pretty rad spot.
We will definitely be back!

The layout is extremely safe, and you feel comfortable. Unlike city rock where a 100 climbs intertwine and you swing wildly to the side on some climbs. Gripstone is the best for belay climbing.
Recently they added a second bouldering section. So it now compares to any other gym in Bouldering as well.

Most expensive climbing gym I’ve been to with the least amount of amenities. It is a great option for children or beginners who have never climbed before. But that is part of why I canceled my membership. More than half the sport routes are auto belay, and half of them are often closed off for kid birthday parties. Again, great if that’s what you’re going forβ€”an occasional way to entertain your kidsβ€”but this is not the place if you’re actually trying to challenge yourself. Countless times I’d be waiting for an auto belay to open up because a kid was just sitting on a hold (literally sitting there), or going up and down messing around. Would be nice if the staff was more involved in regulating the kids because I’m not about to scold someone else’s kid for misusing the equipment. Same goes for the gym area and bathrooms… despite signage I see people walking in the bathrooms in their climbing shoes. I’ve also had to ask a kid to stop running on the treadmill in his climbing shoes because he was just goofing off. It really feels more like a daycare than a climbing gym.
City rock membership is $72/month, Gripstone is $89, for reference.
I tried their fitness classes and they’re held right in the middle of their gym/weights area, which was pretty awkward. We were right in the way of everyone else trying to work out.
I also just have to comment on the lack of cleanliness. When using the gym area I was pretty blown away at how dirty the floors are. Especially under the free weights and running equipment and in corners. I stopped doing my ab workouts because I didn’t want to touch the floor there.
I tried it for 5 months and called it quits after they increased their prices.

We have been attending the homeschool class for the last 6 weeks and my son (11) really enjoys it. He always looks forward to it, has gained a lot of confidence, and is exhausted afterward. I was really thankful that they were able to accommodate us going only once a week (the class is normally twice a week) and it has worked really well for our schedule. Xander is a great instructor; he is really patient with the kids and really encouraging. We definitely love Gripstone!

Great family adventure, a tiny bit pricey but hey when you factor that you can climb until your fingers fall off it’s a great deal! A good mix of beginners & auto belay systems and advanced rope climb stuff. They even offer an aerial silks class & after school program for kids! Also they do pretty good on the cleanliness part (I found important since we rented the gear)

This was a lot of fun for our kiddos! There are a lot of different options based on skill level. The pricing is reasonable and gives them all day to climb around. It is pretty busy on the weekend and you may have to wait in line, but there's no time limit on your turn. The only thing missing is a food court.

We do love this place and it is well-ran with a great atmosphere. My reason for the 3-star is because we reserved a birthday party and had a 2 hour time slot for the back climbing area. During our 2 hours, an employee brought back 2 kids that weren’t part of our group to finish their climbing lesson in our area. That resulted in our birthday kids having to give up 2 spots for some time.

Updating to change to 5 stars after Tracy reached out to us and apologized for this. Thank you Tracy for making this right for us.

I have enjoyed climbing here as a member the past few months. Only gym in COS with a speed climbing wall. There are extensive lead climbing areas, plenty of autobelays, and a solid training area. Smaller bouldering wall as well, though they are in the middle of a major boulder area expansion! Staff is skilled and friendly. Highly recommended!

For being the more expensive climbing gym in town, I honestly thought it was going to be much bigger than it was. The bouldering wall is very small, and they have as many belaying routes as city rock, yet cityrock's bouldering area is 2-3x the size. I think I'll stick to SCC and CityRock for now.

Awesome climbing gym with great employees. However, they need better hours. Not opening till noon on Friday and 8 am for members on weekends is quite limiting. Especially for a place that's close to a $100 a month.

Good clean gym, very family friendly. But the grades are just ridiculous, myself and other climbers who weren't in my party commented on the fact that the bouldering grades weren't accurate. For example a V1 was a V3-4, I can't imagine this would be good starter gym for new climbers.
