As an author, a personal trainer in Denver, an avid hiker, and a podcast host, Michael Moody has helped personal training clients achieve new fitness heights and incredible weight loss transformations for nearly 20 years. He also produces the wellness podcast “The Elements of Being” and has been featured on NBC, WGN Radio, and PBS. I have been training with Michael twice a week for over a year, and it's been great! As a woman in my 30s I wanted a more customized workout routine, so turned to personal training. His LoHi gym is great because it feels like a private gym, rather than a large, intimidating one. Michael makes each workout fun and challenging. He is engaging to talk to and plays great music, which makes the hour fly by. I have scoliosis and he customizes workouts to avoid any kind of extra strain/injury to my back. In addition to training sessions, he sends out weekly emails with a variety of helpful and interesting information, from at home workout ideas to his favorite Colorado hiking trails. Background: I have a host of previous injuries and medical conditions that perhaps, make me a "difficult" person to train. I've done various training programs via magazines / websites, etc. with mixed results and had stagnated. I'm also very introspective and analytical and demand science / evidence (it's not enough for me to "just do a workout). With aging and the time competition between work, school, and life, I decided to seek out a trainer because I wanted expert advice and guidance to working out "smarter" and not necessarily "harder" or just "more".

Decision: I did the usual web surfing, asking friends and coworkers, and eventually opted to seek out Michael as a trainer for the very reason that he did not have references to the current trend of workouts or diet plan or photos of super fit people doing extraordinary exercises. I tend to be turned away by that as I do not relate.

Experience: I am appreciative of the initial assessment and the honesty. Upon reflection, I knew then what I was looking for (that is to say, a kick in the pants), and while not what I wanted to hear, I appreciated the honesty from him. He explained his philosophies as pertaining to my personal goal quite well and put me through challenging but not debilitating workout routines. My previous process is, say, do push ups until my arms won't move but he has convinced me that it's not necessary. Overall, what I gained from our time is more of a change in perspective on eating / exercising and lifestyle change which, I hope, will benefit me throughout.

I would offer the following for your consideration: if you're looking for someone who's not shy away from getting deep into the roots of behaviors, willing to step out of your physical and emotional comfort zones, willing to put in the work, let go of preexisting ideas (re: fitness and food), then please give Michael a chance. I can't speak to others' experiences of course. And my best guess is if I change my goals, he would find a conducive way to address that that is individual to me.

Before contacting Michael, I did my own research and read a lot of these online reviews; it’s about time I prepared one myself. While yes, they were very helpful and almost immediately convinced me to reach out to him; my experience with Michael has surpassed the great expectations I had. Everything has been positive, from our initial message exchange to this day.

WORKOUTS:

As far as our workouts, they are great! I won’t lie, I feared (no joke – I was petrified) and even doubted I would be able to keep up with him, given the fact I have never been an athletic guy. However, that has not been the case at all.

I do feel that my workouts are customized for me; he is always asking and making sure (knowing I have a bad back) that the routine is not causing any pain or discomfort.

Bombarded with so many YouTube videos of people sharing their experience with weight-loss I was already dreading those sore mornings. However, Michael proved me wrong. That’s not necessary, he has shown me how it all comes down to a good nutrition plan. His vast knowledge and recommendations have had a great impact in my daily life now.

LOCATION:

So worth my drive. Originally I wanted to find someone local (near Oak Park): I was even strongly considering someone for home workouts - once again just a bit of intimidation. However the reviews convinced me! The facility itself, atmosphere, I like it.

PRICE:

WORTH IT! Yes, he was out of MY budget but decided to try him out for a few sessions. I don't regret this at all! Wrapping up our second round and looking forward to a 3rd set of sessions with him.

MICHAEL:

He is an awesome guy. Very organized and positive. One of the best tips I got from him was that it’s just as essential to reflect on myself as the time/effort I put into exercising.

Michael is truly an expert in his field. He is very knowledgeable in fitness, nutrition, and physiological health in relation to females and males as it pertains to the overall success of training and weight loss. All of it is very evident in each training session, in how he zones in on areas, both physical and physiological, that are in need of strengthening, toning, and recovery. In addition he provides a wealth of knowledge, which gives him the keen ability to customize workout plans to the individual and to their body type. This quality also allows him to specifically provide you with information regarding what types of measures are needed on your end in order to meet your goals. He has taught me that working out, being healthy, and getting in shape is not about killing yourself, but instead about doing it safely and in a systematic way so that you get a very efficient workout, all while preventing any injuries. He makes sure to ask about any injuries before commencing any workout plan. I personally came to Michael with a preexisting injury, and he tailored a workout plan that prevented any further aggravation, but also aided in recovery and strengthening of the injury. His workout plan has helped so much in the overall process of healing, but also in gaining strength and meeting my goals. I truly feel like a warrior after every workout session, and the next day I feel my muscles getting toned without the feeling that I am unable to walk. Furthermore, he displayed exceptional professionalism and caring by creating a workout plan for me to do at home. This was truly a step above and beyond given that he had typed it out and had gone over it with me during the workout sessions so that I could do it at home in a correct and safe manner. Another very important point for me to make, is that he is always willing to work with your schedule and is flexible if you need to change things last minute. I cannot say enough great things about him as a personal trainer, and I highly recommend him if you are need of one.

I have been working with Michael for about 3 months now and have been extremely pleased with my progress so far. I have always been very athletic, but haven't been getting the results that I have wanted, so I reached out to Michael for his help. Michael is very insightful and creative when it comes to individual strengths and weaknesses. An example of this was when I struggled to make healthier choices when dining out. Michael suggested bringing in my favorite menu and altering it to make it a healthier option. Sure enough, his advice and productive workouts have lead me to lose 10 healthy pounds! He is very thoughtful of your needs and has an approach that is very holistic, incorporating your personal physical and life goals which includes discussions on your nutrition and your life He is affable, knowledgeable and professional in every sense and takes a different and more inclusive aspect to training and result -driven changes (as determined by other experiences with trainers). I found Michael a few years ago when my husband relocated to Chicago for work. I found Michael through an old friend and I cannot say a single bad thing about him! To the time of this review I have had over 8 sessions with Michael and each time we meet we discuss exactly what I am looking for and how to adjust not only my workout regimen but my diet as well. He really focuses on merging the two which makes complete sense. A lot of personal trainers in Chicago simply focus on the workout plans and just say - well watch what you eat or track your food. I have tried that approach with very poor results. Since my 8 sessions with Michael - I have lost over 11LB and going strong. The sessions catapulted me to a new understanding of how I should approach weight loss and my workout regimen. If you are looking for a Personal trainer in River North, Lakeview, Bucktown or any of the areas around I would definitely give him a chance. The facility is also amazing. Never over crowded and always fresh towels and friendly staff everywhere you go! Five stars all the way for this Chicago personal trainer!

I was recommended to Michael by a friend and I must say I've been thanking that friend profusely. Working with Michael was an all around positive experience. Not only was my body and diet changed, my entire outlook on life was changed. I always left our sessions feeling happy and positive. I did an 8 week program and lost 4% of my body fat in just eight weeks! I was beyond impressed and am looking back to do some more "tuning-up" in the future.

He did an EXCELLENT job of listening to my needs and desires for my body and designed custom programs for me to achieve my own personal goals (that I could do at home to keep myself on track for our sessions.) I never felt like I was working too hard (but I KNOW the next day I was working hard) because Michael kept my mind off the work with good conversation and discussions of self-improvement, music, and anything else to make me not realize how much I wanted to give up in the middle of my planks.

He also does an excellent job of reviewing your diet with you helping you set food goals. I love that he recommended that I read "Eat to Live." That combined with his knowledge of nutrition really revamped my entire relationship with food.

I really can't say enough good things, working with Michael was fantastic!
