The lead & t.r. area is 5 star. Awesome setting and reset often enough.

Bouldering area is small and awkward, I would go elsewhere if I bouldered often.

Yoga instructors are great, but they pack way too many people into the tiny studio. Early morning classes are good but the evenings are incredibly cramped.

Fitness equipment is lacking. There's probably enough cardio equipment, and a couple sets of dumbbells but everything else is pretty limited. If you prioritize strength training to any degree I'd go elsewhere or have another gym membership.

The facility itself is generally clean. Staff members are all great; super friendly and helpful.

The community is phenomenal. The facility itself is clean and packed with amenities.

However, a climbing gym must excel in its most fundamental offering: the climbing routes. In this critical area, Movement Boulder falls incredibly short.

* Lack of Grade Variety: The route distribution is poor, especially for those new to the sport. The setting crew seems to have a disdain for beginner and intermediate climbers, exemplified by the latest cave set, which starts at a V4. Furthermore, routes in the V0-V3 range are consistently more challenging than advertised.
* Repetitive Style: There is little variety in the style of movement and technique required. The routes are often monotonous and uninspired, seemingly always requiring a specific heel hook or a move that feels inaccessible unless you are an elite climber or over six feet tall.
* Inconsistent Grading: While every gym has some variability, Movement Boulder lacks consistency within its own walls. The grading changes so much between different sets that tracking personal progress is nearly impossible, which removes the sense of satisfaction that comes with progression.
* Unsafe Setting: The route setting can be questionable and, at times, dangerous. There is a concerning tendency to set dynamic moves that direct a potential fall toward unpadded concrete sections, force movements with a high risk of tendon injury, and incorporate hazardous top-out sequences.

Observing the gym's most dedicated climbers frequently bypass the new routes in favor of the training boards and weight room only serves to validate these criticisms.

As a climber who performs in the V10 range and has been a member here for over two years, I believe the gym's only strengths are its community, facility, and lifting area. Beyond that, it fails in its primary function as a climbing gym and is certainly not a place I would recommend for new climbers.

There’s so much I love about this gym. Like most of the other Movement locations, the setting is absolutely fantastic. The thing that sets this location apart from the other Movements is the people. Everyone here is typically very respectful, and it’s much less of a β€œshow” here vs. Movement Baker. The lead wall is excellent. This is one of my favorite gyms in the US.

Fun routes, great facility, views, friendly staff, green energy. Boom! But they're not very customer-centric: you can't pause or cancel your membership unless you go in in person, and you can't do it during the last 5 days of the month for the next month. Greedy! Also really wish they stayed open past 6 pm on Sundays.

Updated May 2025: tried more of the rope routes. I'm 5'4" with a negative ape and most routes in the 5.10s were reachy, inconsistent and bouldery. Movement Golden and BRC do not have this problem. The setting is the worst in Boulder if you are short. Setting really needs to improve. Maybe the setters from Golden can help? Recommend going elsewhere until then. Staff is nice.

2024: Decided to try this Movement instead of Golden. Was disappointed with bouldering route setting - very inconsistent grading and 50% of the routes were reachy. Bouldering area is also too tiny. Rope setting was great though! Agree with others that culture was kinda unfriendly. No one was talking, most people had headphones in, and the few conversations I tried to start while bouldering were ignored or brushed off.

It's a great facility. I really appreciate the boards, the open feeling of the space, and the gym. The rope climbing looked good, though I did not partake today. I have heard and experienced that the bouldering is subpar. Especially compared to BRC

The honesty and integrity of members at Movement are beyond disappointing. Just yesterday, someone hit my car, leaving deep scratches (4x6 inches) through all paint layers. A week ago, a friend forgot his brand-new Petzl Neox belay device, which was never returnedβ€”just stolen. About a year ago, someone banged a dent into my car door. In all three cases, Movement's response simply is "good luck" and year after year they refuse to install cameras.

Parking is already a nightmare, but the lack of responsibility and inability to improve make it even worse. Given how often these incidents happen and the fact that most other Movement gyms have cameras, I can't understand why this location is being so cheap. The route setting and climbing are average for a gym, but the bad parking situation and low-integrity culture of too many members make for an overall dissatisfying experience.

The gym is great. The parking is a joke. There are only about 50 available parking spots for a gym that holds hundreds. Makes no sense whatsoever and is a very common problem among members. Be warned.

How does this happen in Boulder? A town that has so much pride, but they accept corporate America like no other. Another rebranded corporation to appear as a local gym. Overpriced and taking advantage of climbers. Corporate takeover is ruining America. Go to a different gym that is actually local, stop sending your money out of state…

The good: the routes were good. I like that they don't require people to own their own belay devices. I did enjoy climbing. Lots of space and many options based on skill level.

The bad: If the intake form is going to ask for pronouns, staff need to use them at least when giving the belay tests. Asking for pronouns and then not using them is very performative. Also, staff need to be trained to at least use gender neutral language when approaching people on the gym floor. Using he/him pronouns for someone who is wearing a sports bra as a top is ridiculous. There is a sign up on the bulletin board saying that The Movement supports LGBTQ+ people. Putting up a sign saying you support trans people, means you should actually try to support them.

This gym which I have been a member of for over 5 years, seems to have decided the customer service is the least important thing they do. It has gotten to the point that the facility has some issue at least 60% of the time. If it’s hot the ac is broken(this has been going on for years). If it is cold the heat is barely on. If you ask the front desk for toilet paper or paper towels they say they are out. They never offer you anything in the way of a decent explanation and seem burdened by their customer issues. For being owned by a billion dollar plus company this place acts like they haven’t a dollar to spare.

Do better movement boulder.

I belonged to this gym for years. Before it was bought out it had a nice amicable culture. Unfortunately, afterward everything changed. The rules and regulations because onerous and the price of membership continued to rise quickly. I had an incident where I broke my wrist and could not climb for months. I tried to put my membership on hold, but movement refused to put it on hold saying that I didn’t do it fast enough. I tried to put it on hold five days before the end of the month, plenty of time for them to process the hold. I had to argue with the staff for an hour before they finally agreed to cancel my membership. I am so disappointed by this organization and its treatment of the community that it serves.

They actually pay a service to come through and kick out vans. I parked late at night planning to go in at opening the next day. Someone came through at 2:15A.

Funny thing is she didn’t say anything to the other two vans parked in the lot, or the car that seemed to be trying to hide behind one of the vans.

Lame, and anti-cool. It would make more sense if I, or the van people, were there all the time and constantly taking up spots from their customers… oh, and if we weren’t also customers.

Hopefully the boulders are at least good!

Update: The boulders were good. Nice setting- though pretty soft. (To be expected for the area.) Unfortunately not a whole lot of space for the boulders. This might be the only climbing gym I’ve been too with more fitness area space than bouldering.

When you talk with the locals though they all say the same thing. β€œMovement knows this gym is too small- but they won’t do anything other than tell us to drive to Denver!”

1 star simply for existing, another star for the routesetters.

Friendly staff and probably some of the best setting in the front range, but the bouldering area at this facility is criminally small. Doesn't help that this is probably the most popular gym in Boulder making parking damn near impossible. For the amount they are charging and the members they serve, the facility should be at least twice the size and have more parking (or ffs at least pay the neighboring businesses to let us use their parking when they're closed). If you're an intermediate boulderer like myself that has a hard time asserting their time on the wall, probably look elsewhere.

Big, shiny and underwhelming.

Movement gyms are generally ok to climb at. I am really low on the Boulder gym though.

The route setting lacks flow and character. Feels bouldery, strength based for all the routes I try to climb. Also doesn't have consistent grade ratings. Point is, I haven't enjoyed climbing here. I won't realistically be back otherwise.

Also horrendously pretentious and unfriendly patrons.

As an example. I tied in and started leading this one route. I finished and got down and these two dudes were unhappy that I lead it because they wanted to lead it before me somehow. I don't understand.

I bought the BOGO 4-punch pass at Christmas time not realizing they expired at the end of the year. (?!? Use 8 punches in less than 6 weeks!?! ...it didn't say that on the ad.)
Anyway, when we came to use the last 4 passes in February, they had already expired. Izzy, the manager, was kind enough to honor them and give us the 4 passes back. I appreciated the good customer service.
They do good route setting, and it's always fun to see some of Colorado's finest crushers training there. You never know when Lynn Hill, Tommy Caldwell, or Robin Erbsfeld will be sending hard lines - but there's plenty of routes for us average Jane's, too!

Be aware that if you report unsafe climbing practices, like walking directly under boulderers on the wall, the staff will simply do nothing. So much for promoting learning best practices.

Be ready to fight for parking. And wait in line for routes. Too small for how many members they have. Unless you want to exercise at unconventional hours (like 6am or 9pm) be prepared to be frustrated by overcrowding. Used to be a favorite, convenient gym to get a climb in, but only on weekends now.

Let me start by saying that my home gym is the spot and I've been going there for several years at this point. I'm very used to a communal environment and seeing positive reinforcement for newbies and more advanced climbers alike. It's more of an old school feel and everyone is very down to earth.

This ain't that. I came in to do a lead belay test and run some routes with my buddy about a week after coming back from a climbing trip out in Wyoming. The guy doing the test was so rude and condescending that I couldn't even focus enough to belay properly. I felt like I had committed a crime or something.. I ended up doing a little bouldering and leaving. The clientele is nothing to write home about either. Super judgemental and snide, will barely say 2 words to you. It's basically boulders' yuppie climbing crowd.

*While this particular incident did happen pre COVID-19 it says an awful lot about an experience if it was so negative you remember it a full year later... I haven't been back since..

A lovely environment for bouldering, top roping, and leading. The staff is always super sweet and helpful. Looking forward to yoga classes starting up again someday as an added bonus - all of their instructors are amazing.

Movement Climbing and Fitness is legendary. The routes are set with creativity and attention to detail, and the grades are super precise. The staff always greet me with a smile and stoke is always high. Come climb at this gym if you want to get shredded and climb 5.14 ASAP.

Have been climbing here for three years now. The facility is clean and spacious. Expect strong climbers good sets and busy week nights. I have enjoyed climbing here for awhile but recently hired staff sparked an interest in finally reviewing this spot. Management is fantastic and the front desk staff is stellar. Recently I asked the desk when one of the walls was going to be reset (had a project id been working on). The young lady at the desk (I believe her name was corina) went out of her way to figure out when my project would be reset. Everyone is friendly even the setters. Goes without saying, but I came for the climbing and will continue to climb here because of the atmosphere and the people. Thanks for keeping the gym clean for us. Climb on!

I have been a member here for a few years and generally love the gym. The staff are nice, the routes and boulders are fun and challenging, and it's generally a super fun place. However, the horrible music makes it almost impossible to enjoy the climbing. I left with a headache after being bombarded with heavy metal for two hours. There were only a few other songs played. Not everyone enjoys this music. I hope they can have the consideration to play a variety of music in the future so that everyone can have an enjoyable time.

I climbed here for a few years and I really enjoyed it. People are friendly, place is clean! It could get crowded sometimes but it's a great place to progress from intermediate to stuff that is a little more difficult!

I climbed with some nice folks here. The staff is also very kind. I will also say I experienced a gym culture that was not inviting to new climbers. About half the people I climbed with here either A. Refused to gender me correctly or B. It was obvious that I was making them uncomfortable because im a trans woman. There is a culture of elitism at this gym. Another review states "people at this gym take themselves too seriously." and I found that to be true. To anyone just getting into climbing I would say stay away from this gym. If you are really good and experienced and all you want to do is "train" then go for it. Cheers.

Don’t allow service dogs (yes with proper documentation). Sad they don’t accept ALL people.

Have gone to several climbing gyms in the Boulder/Denver area and Movement is my favorite -- they have solid regular gym equipment as well as great climbing. Parking is a nightmare during peak hours.

This really is the biggest, cleanest, and best gym in Boulder. There are two other options that fall more into the dirty grungy "Rocky" style gym. But movement is bigger, nicer, has better walls, better facilities, a better weight room.

To me it's a no-brainer, but some people complain that climbers at movement "take themselves too seriously". I don't even know what that means, but in my opinion, those people are hyper critical, and they're just looking for something to complain about so they can feel better about their smaller, dingy, less awesome gym.

Don't get me wrong, the other gyms in Boulder are not BAD gyms. Anywhere else in America they'd be great. The people are great. The setters are great. The vibes are just different, and I prefer the bigger, nicer, cleaner facilities movement offers.

Movement is my home away from home, and I'll admit it, I'm a fan, I love it. I've been climbing for a little over a year now, so I don't have a ton of experience at other climbing gyms, but this place is my favorite so far. The routes can be tough, but they're almost always interesting, and that gray lead wall can be a real kick in the pants. Other than the lead climbing, the bouldering can feel a bit cramped, yoga is always a thing, and one of these days I'll actually start training and using the workout area more. As for the other people there, I've only had good experiences, everyone is always friendly. Oh, then there's the parking, which in the winter is almost always lacking. If you don't find a legit spot, don't park in the neighboring business's spots, because you will get booted.

Honestly not a huge fan. I was going to EarthTreks when I lived in Denver and LOVED the people who climbed there and the general nature of the place. I’ve come across people who are rude at Movement which is not what I was expecting at all, and not a lot of routes for beginners. Unfortunate. Staff is always friendly though, I do appreciate that!

The negative reviews on customer service are 100% spot on. If you are an experienced climber, at least climbing 5.12 or above, who is an overhung junkie, you will probably have a decent experience with Movement and the terrain. The setters seem struggle with setting between a 5.7 and a 5.11, making those who are still learning left with limited options. In addition, the amount of routes that aren't overhung is minimal and set in the same 6-8 week time span as all of the overhung routes, leaving a lack of variety for such a limited area. For those who want to work on footwork or climb vertical/ slab routes, go to BRC down the road or EVO in Louisville.

This review is for the climbing aspect of the gym only. Movement Boulder is a great place to climb. Lots of route variety on ropes & bouldering. They are also changed frequently enough as to not get really bored. Some of the staff are fantastic and others not so much. Yes the Bouldering area is not huge but if you aren’t their at peak time, it’s fine. Peak times between 5-8PM are busy. If you go then parking will be a pain. Both locations have very pretentious people climbing..

Thankfully they recently acquired bumper plates. The setting is consistently good. A bit overpriced and a little full of themselves (businesses advantages of being located in Boulder) Rub elbows with some famous climbers and get your climb on.

This is a great climbing gym. The routes are well set and the facility is clean. The staff is really friendly and accommodating for out of town people. I always enjoy coming here when I’m in Boulder. I appreciate the nod to sustainability with the solar panels on the roof and energy console inside.

Great staff and had a fun time climbing. Though there were very few walls under 5.11. Which, as a beginning climber was frustrating.

I’ve been going to both Denver and Boulder movements since they each opened.

I love the amount of classes they have aside from climbing, as well as all the stand fitness equipment you might need.

The staff is usually friendly and helpful.

Everything is pretty clean, besides the occasional blood splatter up high on a wall. πŸ˜‚

The routes are usually pretty good too and they change them out pretty frequently.

My only complaint is the price, but I understand supply and demand. I wish it was a little more affordable.

Wrongfully charged after I ended my membership and was given no help by management. They told me that they had no record of me canceling my account when they specifically made me come in person to do so. Costomer service is by far the worst of all gyms in boulder I highly recommend going anywhere but this super unprofessional business!

Plenty of fun, challenge, and jaw dropping eye candy here. Enough to keep our young kids excited and not intimidated as they navigate 5.7 and enough challenge with fun routes that change regularly to keep you on your toes. Weight training, spin, and yoga to keep you fit in between too. Not to miss!

I've had a membership here for most of the time that I've lived in Boulder, and I love it! The climbing routes are always fun and interesting (both bouldering and ropes), and you get to climb with some of the hardest climbers in the world.

One of my favorite aspects of the gym (besides the climbing and all of the wonderfully friendly staff) is the yoga classes and other fitness classes. If I'm not feeling like climbing, I can still go exercise in a different way. (Yin yoga is perfect for the times when you don't want something too strenuous.)

Overall, highly recommended for anyone wanting to climb or participate in other fitness classes in Boulder!
