Iβve been a member of the YMCA with my family for the past year, and unfortunately, the customer service has been quite disappointing. They often fail to provide accurate information and have caused a lot of trouble for us, especially for the kids. I feel like Iβve wasted my money with them, and I hope they can improve their service soon.

Dear YMCA University Hill / Schlessman,
I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for Kristen, who has made my introduction to EGYM an exceptional experience a few weeks back. From the moment she assisted me with my initial setup, her personable and warm approach stood out. She made the process easy, fun, and engaging, and I even found myself laughing and enjoying the experience. Kristen has a unique ability to connect with members, and she made me feel completely comfortable as I explored this new tool.
On my second visit, I noticed Kristen was off duty and preparing to leave, yet she still went out of her way to help me with a small adjustment and answer other members' questions about EGYM. In my two interactions, Kristen's commitment to member satisfaction and willingness to go above and beyond did not go unnoticed and deserves recognition.
In addition to my gratitude for Kristen, I also want to share how much Iβve come to love EGYM. As someone who stays active with yoga, cycling, running, and kettlebells, Iβve found EGYM to be the perfect complement to my existing routine. It offers an easy-to-understand way to measure progress, which has kept me motivated and engaged. The routine is also quick as well. I can be in and out with a solid maintenance workout in 30 mins or less. The setup and tracking features have me hooked, and itβs quickly becoming a favorite part of my fitness regimen.
Thank you for creating an environment that fosters this level of service and innovation. Kristen and the EGYM system are true highlights of my membership experience.
Sincerely,
A newly converted YMCA member

Joined this YMCA this year. The staff are amazing. The facilities, if working are fine. It does get busy after 5pm. I am annoyed the family pool has been under maintenance for most of the Winter. We have 2 children who love the pool and we were looking forward to using the pool as a way to get out of the house and get them exercise in the dark winter months. But the pool has been out of commission for a while now. It was a big reason we got the family membership. Hopefully it gets fixed soon because they also just raised the membership prices. I'm honestly pretty mad they did this while the pool is down. I've been a member for only a few months and so far, their facilities are not working and they are raising their prices!

I have been a member of the ynca for 15+ yrs in multiple cities and states. I have the worst experience in the YMCA in University Hills Child Watch in Denver. The kids watch employee lacks empathy, understanding, customer service, yelling at kids. No respect for brown families. This has happened several times, the lady, is always angry, does not enjoy her job, give unrequested parenting advice, does not care to understand multiculturalism, multilingualism, does not pay attention to the kids, giving them her back. we had raised the issue to management but no action has been done, the same staff is in charge of the kids. I will. ot recommend you leave your kids with her

Hate this location. the woman that works in the kids adventure zone is miserable and has been rude on multiple occasions to where I had to call her boss and make a complaint.
That didn't solve anything. Now when I drop my kids off everyone is whispering and makes sure to be petty and not say anything to me or my kids but is happy smiling saying good morning to every other person that walks in.
the coffee machine is down more often then not. the workout area is small.

This YMCA is excellent! We have utilized the Adventure Zone for our kids as well as Parents Night Out and our kids are always happy to be there and we feel that they are safe. The kids are also in swim class and we feel like they've made great progress in a few weeks. We utilize the fitness classes, aerobics and weights and are pleased with everything the gym has to offer. Only complaint is with the patrons - wish they wouldn't sit and look at their phones while others are waiting to use the weights/machines.

They overcharged us for about a year and refused to refund us. We notified the front desk of the changes but "they have no record" of it so refuse to refund the over charges. In addition, like other reviews, most of the equipment does not work properly. They also close sections of the gym for classes that have 1 or 2 people punishing the 10 people that want to use that area. Better options out there.

I came here from out of town. The downtown branch sauna and steam room is flooded so I cam to this location. Public transportation got me there quickly from downtown. The day pay was only 10.00 which is an awesome deal. This branch is great the only reason why I removed a star is because of the coed sauna and steam room and since I didn't know that I had to wear my workout clothes in there which is gross but thus is there norm people in there with sneakers, and fully dressed. Extremely unsanitary

I want to love this Y. I really do. The management of this Y may have good intentions but they sometimes seem disorganized and clueless. The facility tries to offer a bit of something for everyone and ends up doing nothing really well. They have dedicated precious weight training space to new futuristic (i.e. useless) machines that require RFID wrist bands to use. Fine, except 99% of the time all those machines sit unused. Meanwhile they got rid of some traditional highly used (and very useful) equipment to make space for the futuristic machines. FAIL.
This Y also outsources much of the IT to outside firms and as a consequence doing anything like checking your account, registering for a class, etc., is a completely clunky experience. This year they wiped out everyone's account as part of a system reset. Fun!
Most of the class trainers are excellent! However this has little to do with the Y because the instructors would be excellent wherever they worked. Questions to instructors about the class registration app usually gets a shrug and "yeah, the app is really bad."
The gymnasium has been without heat for many many weeks. A notification was finally sent out that a part for it was on order. But prior to that notification, asking anyone anything about it was universally met with a blank stare.
During classes in the gymnasium, floor mats and towels become covered in lint and hairballs. They don't sweep the gym floor frequently enough and frankly it's disgusting. I don't bother to mention this to anyone there because it is 100% guaranteed to get a blank stare.
They have removed the water fountain entirely from the lobby yet provide no paper cups. Water fountains have been around for 100 years for a reason. (Actually if you count the Roman empire I guess it's 1000's of years!)
All of the problems above are directly the result of management, not front-line staff. I hope things improve so I can like the Y more.

Car window smashed and stuff stolen from my car in their parking lot. Supposedly according to staff theres been a number of robberies and thefts from the lot, yet thereβs only one camera and zero signs or notices about the thefts and break ins. Do not leave anything in your car, itll be stolen and due to no security youll be out of luck. I get its not their fault my stuff was stolen, but knowing about a bunch of similar thefts and having no posted notices or signs or adding any semblance of security is reprehensible

Just recently popped in for a visit and was very very pleased with everything. I was very impressed with all of the options that are available at this club and will definitely be a front runner on my quest to find the perfect gym. Whilst working out, I was struggling with properly loading weight (never been to a club before) and a trainer, Alex came by and was very happy to assist me and answer any questions I presented. Overall I am extremely impressed with everything this place has to offer! Can't wait to return!!

They canceled their respite program with no communication to the families of those with disabilities. The family coordinator has not responded to any communication for the last 9 months. It's like she just doesn't respond to people. There is no longer any disability programming and it's like they just don't care. Most of the staff is pretty rude, except for the former respite staff, who were wonderful. Too expensive for the attitude and lack of programming. Avoid the ableists who work here if you have any disability and save your money. They literally don't care.

We are blessed by the presence of a dynamic duo! Ryan and Juli are shining stars in a YMCA indoor cycling roster that has long been replete with excellent instructors. Lucky for us they take time from their endeavors in the helping professions (Ryan's a Special Needs high school teacher; Juli's a psychotherapist in private practice) to teach evening indoor cycling classes. (Juli also teaches Pilates).
Parallels abound. Both teachers exhibit extraordinary levels of fitness but do so with the grace that inspires. Both are subtly vigilant--attending to the needs and well-being of their students via timely reminders of posture points and frequent, light-hearted challenges to work harder.
Absent parental constructs and even the slightest whiff of superiority, this peer-to-peer experience, (which Juli and Ryan each evoke with their own inimitable styles) fosters a tribal experience for that hour.
But what really sets these two apart from other instructors--and drives me to prioritize getting to a bike in their classes as often as possible--is their music.
Ryan's mix is eclectic and fresh--and challenging!--especially if you are accustomed to working out to the comfort and predictability of mainstream A-B-A pop beats. First couple of classes I found myself wishing for the songs to end so I could catch my breath. Then one day the genius of Ryan's approach hit me. Every first Monday Ryan starts class 30 minutes early and screens a concert video. On that day he takes a bike on the floor with the students. First time I experienced this Ryan happened to be on a bike right next to me. As usual, the unfamiliarity of the songs disabled my egoic mind by making it impossible to use durational expectancies as my internal driver of how hard I should be working!
All that was left was to try to match Ryan's output by gear and pace. (Even THAT was easy since I could see him in my peripheral vision). No need for mimicry. No need for internal resistance. No place for longing for a break. Just trust him and push!
Juli does this whole other thing. Indoor cycling is the first group exercise I have ever done. I'm a sole proprietor and when I first started indoor cycling I reported to friends how good it was to have someone else tell me what to do for that hour.
I won't pretend to understand how or even what Juli does. What is abundantly clear is that she pours her heart and her soul into her mix. I've had the good fortune to attend many of her classes and I've never heard her repeat a mix.
Like Ryan, Juli leaves the lights off in the studio and since it is an evening class, we cycle to her beats in ambient light from the parking lot. I long ago surrendered any attempt to understand the relationship between Juli's beats and the various jumps and runs and climbs she calls out. I'd much rather fall out of my head as soon as possible...
and fall into that feral, linked consciousness that Juli generates for that hour every Wednesday!
At the YMCA!

I hesitate to leave such a poor review, but I think it's warranted. On and off for the last 2 years, I went from really liking this place to really hating it. Primarily, the problem here is management: There doesn't seem to be any.
Front desk staff is generally cordial, but could never be described as helpful or even friendly. You're just as likely to get an angry stare as you are a smile, particularly from the older staff members.
The facilities cater to senior citizens, to the point of absurdity. The gymnasium is full of classes and events for seniors, and it's nearly impossible to drop in and shoot hoops. Yet, for reasons that escape me, the dance studio is largely unused.
The pool has a fun kids area that COULD be great for families, but the water effects are never turned on. You have to make a special request - to which you get a dirty look - and then precisely 30 minutes of fun before the water effects have to be turned back off.
Speaking of the pool, the staff is grumpy and disengaged. Lifeguards look as if they're rather be anywhere else. The team in charge of the lessons is completely and totally overwhelmed by the responsibility - I showed up for lessons at the scheduled time, only to learn the lessons had been cancelled weeks ago, and no record of my registration (fortunately, I have a copy, so maybe I'll get a refund).
I don't know anything about managing a rec center, but I know that I've consistently had bad experiences at this particular rec center over the last 12 months. I've also noted a considerable amount of staff turnover. To me, this all smacks of a management problem.
But whatever the cause, I recommend anyone under the age of 50 avoid this YMCA. It's not for you.

I was recently visiting Denver for business and stopped to use this facility. After my morning workout I had a few hours of downtime before heading back into work. I walked across the street to get breakfast and returned to my vehicle to relax. I was minding my own business and happened to doze off for a brief nap. However, I was rudely awakened by two men knocking on my window. They were obviously YMCA administrators and one of them told me it was a private parking lot and said I wasn't welcomed there and would have to leave. I explained to him that I was a YMCA member, but to no avail. He responded by telling me there was a 2 hour parking limit and again stated that I needed to leave. So to avoid confrontation I obliged and departed the parking lot. Before I left though, I scanned the parking lot for any signs indicating a two hour parking limit to which there were none. So I called the front desk and asked if there was in fact any time limits on parking to which the receptionist replied no there were no rules of that nature. As a member who pays $107 a month to USE THE FACILITIES, I found the entire interaction demeaning, rude, and extremely unprofessional. If it were not for my girlfriend's and son's frequent use of the Colorado Springs locations, where I have been a member for over a decade without incident, I would have terminated my membership on the spot.
A side note, the gentleman at the front desk when I arrived in the morning was awesome and I would commend him for his admirable customer service. But whoever made the call to rudely infringe on my personal time and space needs to seriously reconsider their actions in the future to avoid similar negative scenarios which reflect extemely poorly on the culture and values of the Y.

Myself and my wife have been members here for about 4 years. My wife has Silver Sneakers entitlement, and I have my membership as a disabled veteran. Do ask about the disabled veteran discount on YMCA membership tho as it is not on their website. You will need a VA hospital card denoting service-connected on it for the discount.
Overall it has been a great experience over the years, but in the past were some issues.

The Schlessman YMCA is absolutely top class. One of the best Y's I've used, even rivaling premium gyms such as Equinox in NYC ($230/month. I miss the lavender scented towels and luxury shampoo, but the Y is a much better deal).
This Y is clean, spacious, has a helpful and friendly staff, and offers the full gamut of exercise options. Whether you're a power lifter, a cardio beast, or a serious swimmer, all of the equipment is top notch and well maintained.
It features a true 25y lap pool suitable for basic competitive training (starting boards and a 9m deep end), an adjoined shallow pool for water aerobics, and a separate, shallow pool with a small slide just for kids!
My home Y is the historic McBurney YMCA in NYC, and while I love the 'Burn, the Schlessman has it beat.
As an out of state Y member, the Schlessman staff had me signed into the YMCA Away program and into the locker room in under 5 minutes, letting me keep my workout routine intact while I'm in Denver.
If you're a local, seriously consider the Schlessman over other Y options in town. I'll be back any time I'm in Denver.

I am very upset that I can't swim with my glam-baby after work. Three hours is a long time to ask people to wait in order to swim. I get up early and when I get off I like to spend time with my family. I chose this establishment because I could swim with her and now they are saying we can't. I thought it was perfect but now I'm told we have to wait until after 7. I am ready to go home by then and it would be to cold to take her out in the different weather. I wish they would have told me upfront and then I would not have started bringing her, now she liked it. I am paying for an experience I am not able to get the best of. It is great that you have offered swimming lessons for years but it should not come at the expense of other people enjoying there time when they can.

They just decided to change the rules in the pool, so while swimming classes are happening in the family pool, we're not allowed to be there, not even in the wade pool! The classes occur everyday. For 3 hours in the afternoon, which is the only time that me, and many other parents, have available to take the kids to play in the pool! I won't pay for the membership anymore if i can't use the facilities. And I won't go there at 8 pm! That's bedtime! This is a very stupid rule!
