This is the best gym in Boulder! Excellent coaching that is well informed, friendly, and supportive. The programming is very thoughtful. The weight lifting and strength training classes are excellent quality, and they offer other amazing classes as well as powerlifting programs. The coaches do a great job of supporting and motivating you to keep getting stronger and improving your form without pushing you way too far outside your limits. The community is really supportive and friendly too, there are no clicks! I’m so glad I found this gym. I’d also say this gym is fat-friendly and welcoming of all bodies in my experience.

I have done both in person training and remote coaching/personal training after moving. The workouts are a perfect balance of hard work and being enjoyable. I'm estatic that after developing knee pain from overwork, I was able to work with Jena to develop a workout routine that I can do remotely which completely eradicated my knee pain whether I'm running or skiing. Cannot recommend enough!

This review is a long time coming. I started going to Uplift back when it was Town Strength in 2020 after a major shoulder surgery. I was accepted so warmly and encouraged to grow. Everyone was so welcoming. I continued to go there throughout '22 while I strength trained there for rowing until I moved down to Golden. I saw some coaches leave and new ones come, but the atmosphere and community stayed amazing. Jena and Devin are absolutely the best. 100/10 recommend this gym!

Uplift is awesome! The staff and community are super inviting. I really enjoyed my first class there with Mitch. His mobility class opened my eyes to new forms of movement. The partner work was especially fun and it was a nice way to get to know the people in the class. As a yoga and fitness instructor, I would highly recommend Uplift. I will definitely be back!

My partner and I have been to many gyms over the years, but this one truly stands out. The trainers here are nothing short of amazing – they’re not only experienced but also incredibly attentive. They really take the time to understand your goals and any injuries, and push you just the right amount.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the sense of community. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by both the staff and other members. Taking part in off-site events with the other gym members was so fun, and a great way to make friends in a new city.

The entire staff of trainers are just so kind and fun to be around, and felt more like friends than coaches from day one.

My only complaint is that now I'm depressed on rest days because I miss getting high-fived all the time.

If you’re looking for a gym that offers expert training in a friendly, supportive environment, this is definitely the place.

I couldn't recommend Uplift enough! It's no exaggeration to say Uplift changed the way I workout, view fitness, and feel strong, all for the better. The owners - Jena and Devin - are incredibly knowledgeable experts and the coaches are all welcoming, kind, and experienced. I came into the gym having never lifted before and hadn't done much more in the weight room than bicep curls. I am in awe of Uplift's programming that is flexible enough to meet all skill levels and challenging enough to produce real results. After only 3 months I saw results in my body and my lifting form, which in turn started to really benefited my other activities (running, hiking, other sports). A year after I first signed up, lifting is a core part of my fitness regimen and how I take care of myself. I am so grateful for the welcoming environment that makes my day every time I go in for a class. Uplift is for everyone and the place that made me fall in love with lifting.

Wow oh wow. As an ultra runner that previously never prioritized strength training and paid for it in injuries, I decided to make a change this year. I was honestly nervous about starting since I’ve never been part of a gym but choosing Uplift was the BEST decision I’ve made. Small businesses run by people who's skills and passion intersect is my love language. Seriously. The team here clearly loves what they do and they're all so good at it. I started with the 21 Day program and truly appreciated the attention to form - it also helps that the members are some of the strongest folks around (which is uber motivating). I've only been going here for two months total but have already noticed notable differences in my strength and confidence with this kind of movement. I was craving more weightlifting/strength based classes and this fits the bill. Glad I found them!

Update to my earlier review: I love that Uplift offers so much more than just weight training! Lizzie Shell is both a coach AND a registered dietician. She has helped me understand and improve my blood sugar level. Book an appointment with Lizzie if you're interested in better understanding how your diet works with your exercise. She WON'T convince you to try the newest fad diet. But she WILL help you get your eating aligned with your goals. She's the best!
I've been going to this gym since 2018 and I can't say enough great things. The owners Jena and Devin are fantastic and the coaches give you personal attention even in a class. And the people who go to this gym are great too! Morning classes get my day going and if I can't make it to a morning class the evening classes make my nights better! Love Uplift!

This gym is truly a gem! The coaches here have changed my perspective on exercise completely.

I used to feel very conflicted about working out – I wanted to like it so much, but I just didn't feel comfortable and found myself comparing myself to other's athleticism in the gym. In group classes at other gyms, most of the exercises were centered around competition, and I felt like I had to meet this imaginary group-wide athletic bar, and if I didn’t meet it, I was disappointed.

At Uplift, the message that the coaches consistently let us know during our workouts is that this is your own workout for your own benefit, and no one understands your body and what you’re able to give that day better than you do. It’s truly a judgement-free zone where people of all different athletic abilities are encouraging each other to be stronger than they were yesterday.

Knowing that I’ll be equally supported on days that I am feeling weak and tired as the days that I’m feeling like the strongest version of myself has helped me make a huge mental shift in that I now think of the gym as a place that fills up my cup instead of something that drains it. I’m able to go to the gym consistently for the first time because I know that regardless of how I feel going into the gym, I’ll be able to challenge myself at the level I’m capable of that day, and leave feeling so much better.

Exercise progression and regression options are the norm here, and your form to avoid injury is the highest priority. The coaches are extremely knowledgable, and give thoughtful explanations for why and how to do exercises safely.

I've seen a HUGE difference in what I can lift and general endurance than when I first started. Thank you Uplift team for being one of a kind!

I love this place. I had been looking for a community based strength "lab" for a couple years where I could get stronger, get better at the basics, age with more grace and flow, and meet some personal strength goals. I gave up my search and just trained on my own. I was keen on finding a place that understands what impeccable coaching means AND that could curate a truly inclusive and community based gym. I wanted a Dojo - a place where you truly learn something new from great teachers and that impacts every area of life. Through serendipity I encountered uplift. I'm so grateful. My standards are high - I have been the personal chiropractor to 2 olympic teams, some notable pro athletes, rock stars and well known celebrities - all of whom demand impeccable excellence and delivery, every time. I also lived and trained at the Olympic training center when I was younger and grew up with world class coaches. I've trained my whole life to play at the top of my game and so who I spend time with really matters. Uplift Boulder delivers EVERYTIME. It is filled with that ineffable spirit that good people embody and radiate. It is free of the hubris that stinks up many "gyms".

I couldn't recommend this gym more highly. I've been seeing personal trainers here for a couple years, and going to the Summit Strength classes regularly for about six months. The trainers are super friendly and knowledgeable, and the classes are very well-structured. They have a variety of strength/cardio-focused activities for a wide range of fitness levels. The instructors are excellent at ensuring proper form to avoid injury, and take a personal interest in helping you get stronger.

I've noticed big gains in my fitness and weight limits, especially since I started attending the classes. If you're looking for a gym in Boulder, this place is the best!

My daughter, who trains at Uplift Boulder and has achieved INCREDIBLE results, treated me to a personal training session with Coach Jena while I was in town visiting. I'm very new to strength training but had stopped after an injury, and had been hesitant to get back into any gym. This was the jumpstart I needed!! Jena is a patient and intuitive listener, and an effective communicator. We covered a LOT in an hour, and I learned more in that short time than I had in two months of group classes at another facility. Jena explained, demonstrated and coached me through basic functional moves, and provided me with a roadmap to get working out again. Her exceptional follow-up included a written version of all we covered in our session plus links to videos showing all the exercises, so I could review and do the complete workout on my own. This is a gym that will meet you where you're at, and help you get to where you want to go. Now I follow UpliftBoulder, Coach Jena and Coach Devin on Instagram for great daily tips and ongoing inspiration!! I rarely write reviews, but this gym, the coaches, and the community blew me away. ❤️
After having a series of injuries and appendix surgery, I knew that my fitness routine needed something different. A good friend of mine mentioned Uplift to me and at first I was like yeah yeah, I’m sure it’s great. But then first time I came in, I could see this was a different kind of gym.
Jena did my intake and she was incredible. She listened to my laundry list of injuries without judgment and truly invited me into a space where I could see my body as on the road to strength, rather than calling myself “weak.” I knew immediately that I found my spot. I nearly cried tears of joy when I left the gym that first day. I finally saw a way forward, a way back into my body.
Every class I have taken is run efficiently and with a tenderness I have never seen before in a lifting space. Everyone honors one another’s space and abilities. It’s the first time I have ever found myself looking inward, focusing on MY workout experience, rather than comparing myself to anyone around me.
When we are paired up, everyone is kind and helpful to one another, and Everyone helps clean up the training area after sessions. All of the coaches are top notch and they really hold space for each individual. A lot of places throw around the word “community” but here it’s an actual thing. You care about each other, you want one another to succeed each time you step up. The coaches keep the workouts fresh and interesting and are constantly encouraging each person to do their own best.
When I started I thought I would just do a class or two a week, I doubted my strength and skills. Now I joyfully go to 3-4 classes a week and do a personal training session. Every day I feel more and more at home in my body, something I have struggled with my entire life.

I have been training with Coach Jena, and she is FANTASTIC. I love the exercises she programs for me; they're functional, hit the right muscles effectively, and feel tailored to my goals and abilities. From the beginning, I was struck by how clearly Jena explains and demonstrates new movements; I feel like I'm never confused. I find working with Jena to be very comfortable, as she strikes the perfect balance between being personable and professional. She's sharp and hilarious, kind and understanding, and I find it quite rare to work with someone who attunes as well as Jena does and who does it so easefully. When I am lifting, I feel that I have 100% of her coaching attention; she's focusing on my form, offering reminders or new cues, and supplying affirmation or motivation, none of it overwhelming. Jena's knowledge of exercise science is considerable and detailed, but she has something more intangible that exceeds even her experience - and I think it's wisdom, about the body. I'm so glad to be working with her.

Great vibes at this gym, everyone's friendly. On my first day, Coach Devin stopped what he was doing to introduce himself, which I really appreciated even though I was there to work with Jena. I felt they went out of their way to help me understand my membership options at this gym, the kind of customer service you expect in a local business. 24/7 gym access, neatly organized equipment, central location, boxes of tissues (that's my thing - tissues), it's all here!

I am a 68 year old woman, newly retired, and have never exercised consistently in my life. In October, my neighbor and I signed up with a personal trainer at Uplift (we both have osteoporosis) and I am having more fun exercising than I’ve ever had in my life! I am lifting heavier things than I ever thought possible because that’s what I’m here for. My neighbor is working on flexibility and our trainer accommodates both of us, working at the same time, with pleasure. And when one of us can’t make it, the training session still remains the highlight of my day! The staff here is so warm and welcoming, and the other clients (women and men of ALL ages) are friendly and not at all intimidating. Try it if you’re curious and I think you’ll be as happy to be here as I am! 10 Stars!!!

It can be surprisingly challenging to find a decent strength gym that has it all. Uplift has it all and the warmth of the community and staff make that very obvious. First of all the place is squeaky clean! You can tell a clean space and clean equipment are top priorities. They have excellent strength equipment (even Strongman stuff!) and lots of it for the more advanced athletes out there, but they create an atmosphere that is welcoming to anyone, regardless of skill-level or ability. There's plenty of space for someone to do their own thing, but they also have lots of group classes at all hours led by friendly and knowledgable coaches. And for those of us who like to geek out on all things lifting- and health-related, they regularly offer special workshops and events to give people an opportunity to learn more about a specific topic. They even host some very well-known and respected coaches for these events. It's been so hard for me to find a place that cares about diving deeper as much as I do. There's literally something for everyone who wants to get strong either to push their limits or just be able to lift their kids. I cannot recommend Uplift enough.

My favorite part though is the outstanding equipment - I don't think you will find a better equipped gym in all of Boulder, which is really saying something. You name it, they've got it. Whenever I visit Boulder I always make it a point to drive to Uplift.

I'm a former athlete and a seasoned lifter and nothing chaps more than not having a solid gym that has all the equipment and functionality you need...especially when traveling.

Uplift Boulder has everything you need under one roof. Barbells, turf, bumpers, full racks, doggos, the works! Plus the staff is awesome and super knowledgable. They even helped me draw up a a solid workout for that day.

BEST. GYM. EVER! Seriously the best gym experience I've ever had, and I've been to quite a few gyms over the years. I'm one of those people that usually has to really talk herself into a workout, but I loved going to this gym so much, I never had to talk myself into it. The only reason I stopped going is that I moved to another state, and I miss it all the time.

The coaches are fun, encouraging, and so knowledgeable about balanced, healthy, sustainable movement. I did private weekly sessions with Jena for a while, and she was so incredibly wonderful to work with. I came in with a few fears and wanting to take my workouts slowly, and she always met me exactly where I was each day — both mentally and physically.

One of my goals was to do a chin-up, something I'd never been able to do before. And sure enough, one day I was working at the bar and just pulled myself right up. You should've seen my face! I was completely shocked. Couldn't believe I was capable of it. I had worked out for years at other gyms with other coaches and got nowhere close. My gains had everything to do with the coaching I received.

If you want the total package of a gym experience, then go to this gym. You might just discover you're capable of so much more than you ever thought (like I did!).

The place was recommended to me by my physical therapist, as I had been having chronic hip pain (in my twenties). And I have been working with Jena ever since! I’ve been training with Alissa at Uplift for about a month. I’ve been wary of training in the past because I’m in my mid 40s and don’t want to feel tight or hurt myself. But I noticed my normal workouts were not maintaining muscle or helping me get stronger. I’ve been so happy with my sessions so far. His technical chops are top notch. His skills instructing barbell (powerlifting and Olympic) in particular are absolutely top 1%. My experience at Uplift Boulder has been nothing but positive. I have gone to group fitness classes for the last four years and I have never felt the way I do now. Each coach cares about you and they truly ensure you are moving your body in a way that will be beneficial and not cause harm to your body. At my previous gym, I felt like a number. That I was just there to make the bottom line, not to truly see me improve. At Uplift, that is not the case. The classes are small which gives the coaches the opportunity to see you as a person, correct form if necessary, and give you the extra push you need. I was very nervous coming into a true weightlifting gym as that is not in my comfort zone but everyone has been so open and inviting and helps me every step of the way. UpLift is hands down the best gym I've ever been to, and it's a pretty incredible place! The coaching staff is superb--knowledgable, welcoming, and genuintely committed to helping members get the most out of each class, wherever they're at on the day. The classes are a mix of folks with all different kinds of goals and levels of experience, and they're really geared so that everyone can scale up or down to tailor the workout perfectly. You also have plenty of personal attention from whomever is coaching, which means you can get everything from help refining your basic movements, to a spot, to nitty gritty feedback on particular elements of an exercise or whatever modifications you might need.

The community here is fantastic, and everyone is so welcoming. I will put in a particular plug to say that if you're interested in trying strength training for the first time, THIS IS THE PLACE you want to be. Seriously, look no further. Jena and Devin's philosophy is absolutely that all bodies are good bodies (capable of very cool things!), and it's never the wrong time to start strength training. The whole coaching staff embodies this, and I can honestly say that, without fail, I've always left the gym in a better mood than when I showed up. I have never been the kind of person who likes going to the gym or that has had the habit of exercising regularly. Uplift has changed my whole experience around exercise and gyms. The classes are incredible- you get such sophisticated and intelligent training programs from coaches who are very experienced and knowledgeable. The classes are small which makes it feel like you get private coaching while you're lifting. The community and atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and FUN. I’ve been working with Devin for about two years meeting twice a week and I’ve had a terrific experience. I feel and am more fit, and the differences on my body really show. Workouts at Uplift Boulder are my favorite! The coaches are awesome and the community is supportive and welcoming. I'm always learning new modifications and variations to get in my best possible workout for my body on any given day. My body is stronger than ever, and this has really shown in my skiing as well. There is a place for everyone here...from fitness beginner to competitive athlete. Highly, highly recommend!

I love this gym. All the staff are so positive, Uplift is the perfect name because that is how I feel by the time I leave, uplifted. I worked with Devin personally for a long while. I am an older client I have had a number of surgeries and I have fear around my body. Devin coached me, helping me get my strength back and range of motion, always encouraging even when I did not believe in myself.

As I was able to move into classes I found Devin’s detailed watchful experienced eye was able to attend equally to all of us in class, and his jokes are pretty funny. The owners educate all their trainers to be like this. It’s a bit like having an extended family without drama.

What I love is there are some pretty hard core lifters there, clients training for competitions and I do not feel out of place or judged. Perfect place for every age and skill level.

I joined this gym a year ago in the hopes of finding community. I found that and much more. Not only are the trainers present, encouraging, and knowledgeable, they are also able to push you to do more than what you thought you could. It is clean, newly renovated, and a safe space for all genders, ages, and body types. I cannot recommend this place more!

I worked with 2 trainers separately over the course of summer 2022. They set up a plan with me for how to achieve my goals (general fitness after 2 years of not working out because of COVID). They taught me proper form and focused on keeping me healthy and working hard. Every day came with its tougher exercises, and both trainers kept me motivated to push my limits and work hard.

I always left satisfied, tired enough, and excited to come back again. So long as I live in the denver/Boulder corridor, I'll be going to Uplift (formerly Townstrength) for my personal training and weigh lifting.
