Long story inbound! If you want a thorough analysis of Widespread Fitness and have 10 minutes to read about my experience, this review can be pretty helpful. If you don't, I apologize- I get excited talking about people, places, and things I love!
Here we go! Starting at a new gym or fitness program can be a daunting experience. There are gyms on every corner offering a multitude of different workout options. I found myself sorting through this endless list a few months ago, overwhelmed by the number of choices. How do I narrow it down a bit!? I knew a few things that I wanted to find: new and varying exercises outside my normal routine, small class sizes, and coaches who could help me with form, motivation, and workout planning. Widespread Fitness checked all these boxes.
Now personally, I have always wanted to try crossfit- not because of the hype around it but because of the types of exercises I heard were involved! Sandbag carries, sled pulls, tire flipping! I love that stuff! (And I think I'm in the minority on that! 🤣) While Widespread Fitness does rarely do these activities in their workouts, it's not very often. Their training program is much more diverse than that, which is exactly what I needed. There are many days of Olympic lifts, barbell and dumbbell work, rowing, running, pullups, bodyweight exercises, and so much more. Numerous exercises I had never done before, which is usually a point of feeling overwhelmed and stressed. However, Widespread Fitness tackles this in their onboarding classes. Their onboarding is 6 one-on-one classes with a coach who teaches you form, functionality, and how to do the exercises before you get into the classes. This helps you feel at least familiar and not lost with an exercise while in a group class. Even further, while in classes the coach will demo each exercise to refresh your memory and help you hone in on your form or things you may still be missing. It's great!
Because the classes are varied in exercises, sometimes I find them in my wheelhouse and not too bad, while other days I get absolutely whooped (in a great way!) But I love how I can scale the workouts to my abilities. Even if you think Crossfit isn't for you because you aren't strong enough or can't do some exercises due to physical limitations, trust me- Widespread fitness has ways of scaling down or having alternates for just about any exercise. It's so accessible, so don't let the concept of Crossfit scare you away without even trying it. It's accessible no matter your skill level.
Besides the types of exercises, I narrowed down my gym choices by knowing that I excel in small workout classes. Seeing the same wonderful people and feeling part of a team helps keep me motivated. I enjoy knowing I have some new friends there to see pretty consistently, and that there are people working just as hard as I am during the workout. The struggle is shared, and everyone is really nice! Typical hour-long class sizes are limited to 8 people, which I think is perfect. This is enough people for me not to feel singled out or like all eyes are on me, but small enough that I know the coach is watching my form, there to help if I need it, and able to assist me in selecting good weight amounts for new exercises. It's the perfect balance I think!
The two drawbacks I see to prevent you from wholeheartedly committing to Widespread Fitness is the cost of crossfit (even though you get so much value out of it!), and that the class times can fill up quickly, so you must constantly on top of signing up for them. But for me, this place is 5 stars and I absolutely love going. From the moment I wake up, I'm excited to get to my favorite 5pm class!
I really hope you found value in this honest review, and that you check out Widespread Fitness if it seems to fit what you want in a fitness program, too!

I've been working out at Widespread Fitness since November, and it has been such a positive and motivating experience. The mix of cardio and strength and the variety of workouts that Matt puts together keeps things fresh and interesting. The classes are challenging yet very manageable regardless of your experience, skill, or abilities. The coaches are always able to make modifications and help along the way, so you get a good workout that is safe and just right for you. I was a bit nervous when I started, as I had never done CrossFit types of workouts or lifted heavy. Thanks to the great team of coaches and the fun atmosphere, I've made a lot of progress in a short amount of time and continue to look forward to working out every week.

I've been a member of Widespread CrossFit since September 2024 and I can confidently say that it's been a wonderful and impactful experience. What sets Widespread apart from other CrossFit gyms is its ability to distill the best parts of the CrossFit methodology - a supportive and connected community - while leaving behind the negative stereotypes that often come with it.
The small class sizes at Widespread ensure that each athlete receives personalized attention and coaching, which is essential for safety and proper form. The coaches are not only skillfully trained but also passionate about teaching proper technique, which gives me confidence in every workout.
The programming at Widespread is thoughtfully planned out, with each workout carefully designed to challenge and engage athletes of all levels. But what truly impresses me is the coaches' ability to adapt each workout to meet the unique needs and abilities of each individual athlete. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting out, the coaches will work with you to modify the workout to ensure you're getting the most out of your time at Widespread.
At the heart of Widespread success is its owner, Matthew. His commitment, passion, and drive to support each athlete on their fitness journey is inspiring and contagious. He's created a community that's supportive, motivating, approachable, and fun!
If you're looking for a fitness community that will challenge you, support you, and help you achieve your goals, then Widespread CrossFit is perfect for you! I'm so grateful to have found this gym and I know you will be too!

I’m new to CrossFit and weightlifting, and to be honest, I was terrified—like "I'd rather do my taxes" terrified. 😅 I’ve avoided anything that remotely looked like a gym for years. But then I bumped into an old friend, Chris (who’s now a coach here), and I was blown away by his transformation. He encouraged me to give it a shot—Thanks, Chris! 🙌
I started with 8 one-on-one sessions with the owner, Matthew, who made sure my form was on point. This was a big deal for me because I just turned 50, and injury prevention was priority #1. 💪
I’ve just passed my two-month mark, and the results are already showing—so much so that people have been making genuine comments (and trust me, I haven’t told a soul what I’ve been up to!). The best part? I’m starting to get to know the awesome folks in my 5 AM class. Every single person has been incredibly welcoming and encouraging.
Honestly, I’m excited about my future here. If you’ve ever been on the fence about CrossFit or just want to try something new, this place is it. Here’s to more early mornings, sore muscles, and unexpected friendships! 🥳

The last month of CrossFit training here at Widespread CrossFit has been so awesome. The on ramp process is great, and made it much more comfortable to move into the group workouts. I have found a home for my workout and nutrition needs for sure. The coaches are all so helpful and have my safety and growth as an athlete in mind at all times. And the other athletes here both inspire and help me in my journey to a better me. I highly recommend to anyone at any age who is looking to improve your health and wellness.

I have been really happy returning to Crossfit with Widespread Fitness. Classes are small with plenty of individual attention from the coaches. There is no stigma with tailoring the workout to individual needs (be they goals or limitations). Workouts are varied with short-term and long-term progressions. 100% would recommend this gym to folks with an interest in long-term adaptable fitness! See you at the gym.

I am 49 (2023) and have been doing Crossfit for the past 10 years coming from big corporate gyms and triathlons. Crossfit is an all-in-one training modality that incorporates functional strength training, gymnastics, and cardio. Crossfit does not build the beach-ready V-shape body. Also, I would not try to compare to anyone doing pure weightlifting, gymnastics, or endurance sports. The trade off is I can comfortably weekend warrior (hiking, mountain biking, SUP, snowboarding), move a full house of furniture, and complete all of the obstacles (except the javelin) in spartan races. Crossit is also built around community and shared suffering. If that aligns with your fitness goals, Crossfit could be for you.
I have been a member of 5 Crossfit boxes and worked out in locations around the world. In Crossfit, each location designs their programming to include a different proportion of strength training, gymnastics, and cardio. The coaching style, equipment, class schedule, class size, and demographics are all different. It's important to find the one that best suits you.
I have been happy with the coaching and workouts at Widespread. The community is supportive, and I have been able to maintain good fitness. Here is my view of Widespread to see if it might work for you:
- being in the suburbs, members are generally over 35 with kids
- most everyone's goal is for longevity and general fitness over qualifying for the games; people are not glued to the leaderboard
- the programming feels like a 40/20/40 mix of strength/gymnastics/cardio
- coaching stresses form and weight appropriate for you
- there is no pressure to Rx the movement or weight
- you are encouraged to challenge yourself but not redline or max out; no one is puking or getting rhabdo
- the class size (8) is small
- the gym has the typical Crossfit equipment like barbells, dumbbells, rig, rings, rowers, bikes, wall balls, kettlebells, padded boxes
- uncommon equipment like rope climb, sandbags, sleds, tires, specialty landmine attachments

Do not miss out on this gym, it has completely changed my life!
I’ve been a member of WSF for over 8 years, and not only has this place completely changed my health, it’s completely changed my life! This place isn't just about workouts; it's a community where everyone, regardless of their fitness level, is genuinely welcome.
Yes, it’s scary making the decision to jump in and join a gym like this, and trust me, I was absolutely terrified! However, everyone is extremely welcoming, friendly, encouraging, and supportive.
The coaches are the best in the business and completely dedicated to improving their members’ overall health. It’s not about being the fastest or lifting the most weight, it’s about trying your hardest, maintaining your form, and being smart with how you approach your workout.
You do not need to be in top physical shape to join this gym. Everyone is at different fitness levels and each person is given special consideration on what will work for them. The classes are very small (only 8 people per class!) which allows the members to really get to know each other and form meaningful friendships. I cannot fully express just how incredible the coaches and members are - it’s a wonderful group of people, and for me, it is the thing that keeps me motivated to stay consistent and attend classes on a regular basis. It’s fun to see your friends, encourage each other, and make another memory where you think “I can’t believe we did that!!”
You have nothing to lose! Get out of your head, don’t overthink it, and schedule a time to stop by and learn more! I promise you won’t regret it!

For years I longed to get into shape, and feel comfortable in my skin. Kids and work took everything out of me and excuses of NO time also took over.
Eight months ago, I finally got the courage to walk into Widespread CrossFit and haven't looked back. The two-week on-ramp program helped me gain confidence before joining group classes. My goal was to do group classes three times a week, and as of today I enjoy doing them five to six times a week. The variety in the workouts and the community of people get me excited to jump out of bed to start my day.
Many people have the wrong impression of CrossFit. Matt and Kari have built a gym for those that workout daily to those like myself looking to get back into shape after doing nothing for almost 10-years. They also have an incredible kids program that our 8-year twins LOVE. I love seeing how their classes have helped them improve in both physical strength, but also mental strength by believing in themselves.
Encourage you to take 15 minutes out of your day to meet with Matt and Kari to see if it's a fit. I promise you that you won't have any regrets.

Vastly different from other gyms where owners and managers rarely participate. They've also assembled a team of like minded coaches, and have built such a supportive culture within the gym. It's really a pleasure meeting and working out with other gym members. No posers, just real workouts that vary considerably. Never boring! I highly recommend WSCF!

If you want a Crossfit gym that cares about each and every athlete, ensures your form and technique are spot on and strives to help you achieve whatever goal you have...Widespread is the place. I have been going for almost three years now and the atmosphere...from athletes to the instructors is spot on. The owners (Kari and Matt) are among the nicest people I have ever met. Fitness is their passion and it shows everyday I show up!

Kari and Matt are the best coaches ever! They are really encouraging, yet they focus on a good form and are extremely knowledgeable everything fitness related. Plus all the people that do crossfit at Widespread are awesome.

I love working with the instructors here. They push you enough to see results but never push you to a point where you would injure yourself. I always get a great workout and do more reps then I would have made myself to do on my own. I highly recommend this place!

Wife and I dropped in from Texas for Friday 9:00 session. Greeted very kindly and was signed in. Matt led the class. Nice and loud direction, very specific to what he was looking for from athletes. One thing I liked was his use of Wodify to guide athletes in weight options based on their previous workouts. Pretty good amrap, felt challenging. Overall would definitely recommend. Good crossfit 👍

Dropped into Widespread CrossFit while visiting. I was planning to try other boxes in the area, but the programing, coaches and facility were top notch so I stayed the week. The community was tight knit and supportive; I felt like I was in my home box. The programing is top notch, well rounded and expertly coached. If you are in Colorado drop into this box: you will not be disappointed. Matthew and Kari are awesome!

Dropped into Widespread CrossFit from Dallas. The community and the coaching staff were super welcoming of me. The class experience was fantastic and the way it was structured as far as warming up, strength, and going into the work out were incredibly professional/informative. I highly recommend dropping into this box, Matthew and his staff are top notch and I will for sure be coming back to this box in the future!

I started at Widespread CrossFit back in August of 2016 after having tried the "Globo" gym thing for a while and couldn't say enough good things about Matt, Kari and Nick and everyone at Widespread. They take a genuine interest in the successes of each athlete that comes through their doors and are maniacally focused on technique and form with each and every athlete, knowing when you need to push yourself and when to hold back. If you've been thinking about giving CrossFit a try, give Matt a call. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Widespread Crossfit is amazing because Matt and Kari are amazing. They can scale a workout to anybody's unique needs! I am 57 and have been working out since the 70's. I have always been comfortable in a gym and consider myself a 'gym rat', but demands of work/family/school had gotten the best of me, and I found myself in an unacceptable physical condition. I got my diet under control but really needed a new plan for my workouts. I was in a serious rut, very weak, and was searching for workouts that were efficient and motivating. I've experienced personal trainers over the years, but I have never had coaches that could balance form/safety and pushing my limits like Matt and Kari. They really know me and I feel so supported. Every day the workouts are different and I discover muscles I didn't know I had and push my cardio capacity to the limit. The community is inviting and everyone cheers one another on which I find very motivating. Regardless of your age, Matt and Kari will bring out the best in you and they will work (or help you eliminate!) your limitations and weaknesses. They are knowledgeable, passionate about what they do and FUN! I am so grateful that I joined this crossfit gym.

I really can't say enough good things about Widespread CrossFit. I waited over a year for this place to open and it has exceeded my expectations. Since joining, I'm stronger and fitter in my 40s than I ever would have thought possible thanks to Matt’s fantastic ability to motivate and energize everyone at the gym. Matt is a coach who might possibly care more about your fitness journey than you do - he is a stickler for proper technique and is passionate about studying fitness, workout programming and nutrition so things never get dull. If you are looking to start CF or just looking for a new place to do CF, I guarantee that Widespread CrossFit will not disappoint!

Wow. I am so impressed with widespread crossfit. I checked out multiple other gyms before joining. My decision to choose Widespread was because of the obvious commitment to safe and correct workouts. I also found myself instantly enjoying the class and my new workout partners. I highly recommend Joining here.

I joined WSCF 9 months ago because I like exercising but couldn't find something that would keep me engaged. Every other place I had tried, I got bored quickly. Crossfit excited me due to the community environment, built in strength training (would force me to do something I wasn't comfortable with), and the results I had seen from other women who had tried it. Widespread was my number one choice because of Matt. There are a number of "boxes" close to me, but Matt stood out as someone that truly cared about form (I really didn't want to get hurt like the rumors stated), he keeps his class sizes small (no more than 8), and he teaches all of the classes (no better way for a coach to get to know someone's weaknesses and strengths and therefore be able to push you to your fullest). Looking back, I am convinced I am at the right place for me based on my goals and I have truly loved the community (small and close knit) that I am now a part of. My personal progress has been great. I am significantly stronger, my outlook on fitness has changed, my diet is considerably better, and my body shape is much leaner. So, if you are thinking about starting crossfit, I would highly recommend WSCF to anyone!

At the risk of sounding cheesy, Widespread Crossfit has changed my life. Matt Kirkendall is an amazingly patient coach who is always dedicated to safety first. I have never been very athletic, but after working out at WSCF since January I am in the best shape of my life. Many people tell me the dangers of crossfit, but I always think they just haven't tried it. Come try it. Matt really will change your life. I have so much more confidence and have met an amazing community of friends.

I started 6 months ago and I could not ask for a better coach and teacher. Matt is all about fitness and I couldn't imagine going to another gym. Kari does a phenomenal job too! I am new to CrossFit and couldn't have better things to say about Matt Kirkendall/Owner/Coach/Personal Trainer and his box! I have always been an athlete, but I was still a little intimidated by the CrossFit world. The minute you meet Matt and the Widespread family you feel supported and at ease. Matt cares about form first and foremost, he is passionate about your success and will push you to places you never knew you could go. If you have been looking for a new gym to call home, I would highly recommend making the call or stop by Widespread on 144th and Lowell. The box is new and it is a great time to join. I promise you will not be disappointed. If you ever felt like those CrossFit people are badass, now is the time to make that person you!

Whether you're a first timer or a veteran cross fitter Widespread CrossFit is the gym for you. It's located in the Broomfield, CO and is in an easy to find location whether your driving on I-25 or Hwy 287. The equipment is top of the line and the gym is very comfortable. I like the fact that there's a shower onsite so you can get cleaned up before you head to work. The coach is an extremely knowledgeable and patient person. He has experience that ranges from adaptive athletes to masters athletes. From the time you enter the door he'll make you feel like family.

Anyone living/working in or near Broomfield and interested in Crossfit, whether you're certified or just looking to try it out for the first time, you should definitely stop by Widespread Crossfit on 144th. The box has new/excellent equipment and you won't find a coach that is as focused on proper form and technique, or more passionate about fitness and helping people to reach their goals than Matthew Kirkendall. If you're wondering what the Crossfit craze is all about, give Widespread Crossfit a try; it just might change your life :)

Widespread Crossfit is simply the best. Head coach/owner Matt Kirkendall has incredible energy, knowledge, passion, and the unique ability to push you past what you thought you could achieve while keeping you safe and wed to fundamentals. Small but mighty, the Widespread community is full of great athletes at all levels but more importantly of kind & delightful people - and the gym itself is a joy to workout in from reclaimed barnwood and beetle kill accents to industrial art - even the wastebaskets are nice! Absolutely the place to be for coaching//crossfit/community.

Widespread Crossfit is THE GYM to go to in the area. Whether you are beginning your fitness regimen, starting back up after an injury or are an active athlete currently, Matt will coach you based on your fitness level to ensure you get the best workout every single day you join class. He is extremely focused on teaching the proper form for ALL movements, not just Olympic lifting, so you know that your safety and proper form/range of motion is his very first priority. He brings such great energy every single day and I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else.
