I just switched to Active Health two months ago after 18 months of semi-private sessions at a different gym. I've been really impressed by the company's organization and trainers. I'm able to book appointments months in advance (rather than week to week) and get frequent reminders of my upcoming appointments. There's also a great deal more flexibility when I am not able to make my allotted two sessions per week - compared to my last experience where it was "use it or lose it". Active Health allows you a certain amount of time after your membership term ends to use any unused sessions.

The trainers have been top-notch. Beginning with my initial evaluation, it was clear to me that the trainers are experienced and highly knowledgeable (shoutout to Trina and Yeny!). They are easy to talk to, pay close attention to proper form, and communicate clearly. I also love the organization and transparency of their workouts. Each session my day's routine is displayed on a large screen and always consists of three supersets (which change each session to provide variety). This helps me to stay motivated when I see that the "end is in sight" and the sets, reps, weights, and intensity of each exercise are clearly visible. No mystery involved, having to ask "how many reps?" or being asked by the trainer "what weight did you use last time?" like I experienced at my previous gym.

In addition to all this, I found Active Health's prices to be competitive and a good value.

I’ve really enjoyed my experience at this gym! It’s the first time I’ve worked with female trainers, and I’ve found their perspective and experience incredibly valuable. The team designed routines specifically for me—focusing not just on strength, but on overall health, function, and balance. I appreciate their thoughtful, personalized approach and the encouragement they bring to every session.

This is my happy place — if I could give it a million stars, I would! I moved to the area and was looking for a gym where I could train to get me back on my feet after a health setback, and I found that and so much more! The trainers are very kind and incredibly knowledgeable. They will modify some exercises so I can perform them without pain, but still get the benefit of a good and complete workout and keep progressing in my mobility and strength. I’m so grateful! Also, the equipment is always clean and in great condition, which is very important in a gym. Highly and enthusiastically recommend Active Health in Wallingford!

I highly recommend this gym. They have been excellent communicators, giving me plenty of reminders of my appointments. The staff has accommodated my schedule. The carefully laid out workout schedule on a daily basis is what won me over. I like to be able to see in writing what I’m going to be doing as I’m doing it and reminders of the number of sets and repetitions that I’m expected to try to achieve. I have worked with three different trainers but primarily with Tyler. He is very patient and friendly and the whole atmosphere in the gym is a positive non intimidating experience. As an older woman returning to the gym experience, active health has helped me get back on track as I try to become stronger and more fit.

I have been going to active health and working with Tyler for a while now. I love the gym and how the one on one sessions work. I didn’t realize how much you can get done in a 30 minute session. Working with a personal trainer has been a game-changer in my fitness journey. From the very first session, the experience felt tailored, professional, and goal-oriented. One of the most significant advantages of personal training is the personalized workout plans that align with your individual goals—whether it's weight loss, muscle gain, improved endurance, or rehabilitation from an injury.

I’ve been training at Active Health with Tyler, and I couldn’t be happier. He’s an amazing trainer who really knows how to push me to be my best while still keeping things fun and encouraging. Thanks to Tyler’s guidance and support, I’ve gotten into such great shape and feel stronger and more confident every day. Every session challenges me in the right way, and I always leave feeling accomplished. If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be truly supported in your fitness journey, I highly recommend Active Health—and definitely ask for Tyler!

Where do I start…this place has been life changing for me. When I started here in early May I felt like an absolute mess with pain all over my body and anxiety ridden like crazy. I also had 0 confidence that I would be able to do this. Meeting Derek M. changed that. He immediately took me and my challenges on head first by getting to know my story and my struggles. He encouraged me from day 1 and adapted my workouts to whatever was needed for me on a particular day. In the two months I have been here I have seen changes not only in my physical health but more importantly my mental health. Derek knew right away it was my nervous system that was disregulated and holding me back from things and he pushed me (in a good way) to not be afraid. I can’t say enough great things about this place. Thank you Active Health for changing my life and I can’t wait to see where many more months ahead will take me.

I came to Active Health after recovering from breast cancer. I had a partial Radical mastectomy. It took a long time to heal. In the mean time my physical health suffered. Coming here has enabled me to start regaining my strength. The positives are the one on one direction and encouragement, as well as the relaxed atmosphere. I’m very happy to be part of this gym. Looking forward to getting stronger.

Active Health has been life changing for me. It goes way beyond the personalized workouts. Derek and his staff are so knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and movement. Classes are taught in a way where the exercises are clearly explained and demonstrated. This gives me great confidence that I am not going to get injured. I've been to other "gyms" before and there is no comparison. I would recommend Active Health to anyone looking for personalized training by an attentive caring staff.

Trainers are great to work with.
Other trainees are very friendly.
I highly recommend active Health.

They have a clean functional gym with all the equipment you need to improve your fitness. The staff know what their doing and safely push you to your limits. They are knowledgeable about training and will answer all the questions you may have about improving yourself. I travel a lot with my profession, 3 months a contract and go to 2-4 different gyms yearly. This one is the best for personal trading that I have been a member of. Special shout out to Tyler, he was my coach 80% of my time. The rest of the staff was awesome also they each have their own insights into training that really helped me. Great work Active health team.

I've been going to Active Health for about 4 months, my first time doing weight training, though I've done aerobic exercises (running and tennis) for decades. They are FANTASTIC. They have a program tailored for my needs and are incredibly knowledgeable, knowing exactly what exercises I need and exactly how to do them. It's amazing how a minor adjustment in how an exercise is done can make a huge difference. They also have a great attitude. Highly recommend them.

I started Active Health a few months ago. I had some ortho surgeries and needed to build muscle back. I’ve been exercising for quite awhile, but I realized I needed help to get to the next level. They pinpointed my struggles and challenges right away. They kept me focused. In a very short time, my body composition changed. I gained muscle and strength! The results are amazing. Beyond that the people that I have met and trained with are the greatest. It’s like having an extension of my family. Someone once told me that hiring a personal trainer is worth their weight in gold. That statement proved to be true.

Simply put, Active Health has changed my life in just a few months. About one and a half years ago, I started becoming more active again and trying to learn the sport of disc golf. I did not realize at the time how unathletic I had become. At 35 years old, my desk job took a toll on my flexibility, core strength, posture, proprioception, and athleticism. I tried to solve the problem independently for a year, but I barely made progress. I started getting frustrated, so I researched online for a personal trainer and found Active Health. Since it was close to my work, I decided to give it a shot, and it was the best decision I ever made. On day 1, Derek did some strength and flexibility tests and made a spot-on assessment of my weakness areas. Once I got started training, the changes were immediate, and I felt like a new person after a month. I would recommend Active Health to anyone who actually wants to get in shape, be active without injury, and feel good at any age. It is a welcoming environment where people of all ages work hard with the support of experts. Active Health is a special place where you feel welcome and safe to push your body in ways you never knew were possible!

I started at the gym about two months ago after years of trying to workout but then re-injuring my back at every attempt. This left me feeling pretty frustrated and unmotivated often. My husband, who had been going for a while had seen a shift in his strength, flexibility and an array of other positive results and recommended I try Active Wellness out. I can happily say, I am feeling great, have not injured my back since starting and can thank the team for that as, their one on one training and step down to semi private sessions have been the secret sauce I needed to get back on track with my health!
I am so thankful to all the trainers as they are motivating, kind, smart and genuinely care about the people they help. If you have an injury that is holding you back from achieving your fitness goals, give them a call, they are super welcoming, will assess you, and you’ll Be on your way to feeling amazing!

All of the trainers have been wonderful and oversee your program. It is definitely worth the investment.

I have been going to Compass & Anchor/Active Health for (I think) around four and a half years. I started with Derek and now I am with both Derek and Tyler. They are amazing. They push me to do things I never thought I could do.

Both Derek and Tyler are exceptional trainers. They have a knack for breaking barriers and helping me to attain my goals. I have come a very long way since joining this gym, sometimes surprising myself at what I can do. They push me to be the best I can be. I am grateful to them for helping me to be in the best shape of my life.

Joining this type of gym has been the right thing for me and I believe it would be for others as well. Because i am committed to regularly showing up on time for my sessions, I am much more likely to go than if I didn’t have a trainer expecting me three days a week.

This is the best decision I have ever made for my fitness and my health.

Active Health has helped me so much to get active (after years of inactivity) and stronger. Their personal attention to my goals and training has been key. I had a shoulder injury that I did not think I could overcome, but they showed me that building strength actually alleviates the pain. I have been able to do so much more physically than I have in many years. I highly recommend them.

Motivation, strategy, tactics, and discipline are required for almost anything you want to achieve.

For me, when it comes to fitness, the only thing in my arsenal was motivation — if you’re reading this you probably have the motivation, which is good because you’re on your own there. No one but you can provide the “why” behind your desire to be fit. Strength, longevity, health, beauty, or the “little” things : the ability to walk your dog at 70, pick up your grandkids at 80, play legos with them on the floor at 85 (and be able to get back up). All admirable goals and proper motivation. Unfortunately motivation on its own won’t strengthen your body or return you from the precipice of metabolic disorder.

Thankfully, the people at Active Health provide the rest: the plan, the actions, and the structure, all directed towards one aim : the fitness goals YOU have. The trainers here are friendly, welcoming, and capable. They meet with you to learn about your goals, measure your current state of fitness, and set out a strategy to move you towards those goals. The sessions themselves will push you, but only in the ways your goals dictate and in ways your body can handle — close attention is paid to any limitations you may have. Scheduled personal and semi-private sessions help guarantee you’re on a path to success by giving you a concrete structure. You just need to show up and put up your best - after weeks, and months, and hopefully years, you WILL see the change you want.

This cannot be stressed enough - you are NEVER too old to start down the path to fitness. 40, 65, 80, start now. The quality of your life can be vastly improved at any age through exercise and resistance training.

TLDR; Proper fitness programs tuned to your fitness goals with competent trainers makes Active Health a great place to find your path to well-being.

Simply giving five stars and saying the people here are great is not enough. I used to be 300 pounds. I have a ton of experience in letting myself go and not caring. After going through some difficult times I learned to take care of myself and got myself down to 160 pounds. I had to stop everything I was doing because I got a hernia. After that got fixed and it was time to start going again, I had no motivation to get myself to do anything. I called Active Health because I felt like I couldn’t do it on my own again. One of the best decisions I’ve made. My initial visit back in November I sat down and talked with Derek about what my goals were, I told him I was already at my goals because I wasn’t 300 pounds anymore, I just wanted to feel healthy and strong. 7 months later I continue to impress myself with the things I’m able to do, strength, mobility, endurance, I truly look forward to working out, especially with them. Katrina and Tyler are incredibly knowledgeable and I couldn’t be happier with my results. I greatly appreciate their support and dedication to me. The two of them are an incredible asset to the company and the fitness industry. If anyone is actually reading this and you want an honest opinion, please don’t hesitate to schedule yourself. I hope you feel how I feel because it’s literally life changing. Push yourself and put in the work with Active Health. Huge Thanks to everyone there :)

I found Compass online and decided to give it a try. I've been going for a few months and see a lot of positive changes.
The staff and trainers - Quint, Mollie, Cam, Dan, Katrina and Tyler- are all excellent and work together to keep track of my training program. Mollie is always at the front desk to greet me and help with scheduling. Quint did my initial assessment, which was sensitive to my various limitations, and I've worked with Cam, Dan, Katrina and Tyler. Because of my age and physical glitches, I often need modifications and all of them are great at coming up with creative ideas to accommodate me.
The team - Quint, Cam, Dan, Katrina and Tyler - meet weekly to assess all the clients, so whoever I'm working with knows what I'm supposed to be doing each week. They make it as fun as possible and, unlike some trainers I've had in the past, are careful not to push me to do anything that can cause injury or a setback. I highly recommend them!

I have been going to Compass and Anchor by Active Health for over a year and I have absolutely loved every minute of it! Derek and his team have created a gym that works well. Mollie is always extremely easy to get ahold of. She makes sure that all my appointments are correct and if I need anything worked out, she is always available. Quint is able to answer any and all of my fitness/life questions (and even draw pictures to explain it even better!). He is knowledgable and takes the time to really get to know each client. I've had the privilege to workout with Katrina during my 6am workouts. She is always a smiling face so early in the morning and makes each workout fun and enjoyable (something I thought was impossible!!). Finally, I have worked with Dan most of my time at Compass and Anchor. Dan's understanding of the body and what each part does is incredible. He is always a listening ear when I need someone to do just that. He is great at explaining directions and giving guidance on how to properly lift! I highly recommend each of the team members that Derek has chosen to represent his gym. If you want to get a good work out in and have fun while you do it, this is the place for you!!!

Don't walk but run here! I came here initially because I met Derek in a previous gym but I most certainly stayed because of what he has built here at this specific gym....and to be honest, a trainer named Dan. If you have any fitness goal in mind or want a place that cares about your physical and mental well being, this is it.
Here is the deal...I am a yoga instructor and despise working with weights. As a female, I understand this is a much needed skill (the use it or lose it concept). I also know that I need to be watched when I do anything with weight because my body does some pretty funny things to compensate.
All the trainers here are exceptional. I have worked with Trina, Quint, and Dan. They are here to help you, they are here to motivate you, and they are here to make sure you have a good time, even if you hate working out. Shout out to Mollie as well for taking care of finding times in my crazy schedule.
I am in Small Group Training, which means I train with three other people at the same time. I come twice a week and both times I have Dan as my trainer. First two times I came I was thoroughly impressed with the his capability to take four people through entirely separate workouts based on their personal capabilities and provide thorough explanation of each movement. In just a couple minutes he gives helpful cues and finds ways to personally motivate you. He provides the most effective workout in only 50 minutes of your time. Recently I hurt my shoulder/neck area in my yoga practice. Dan switched up my training and was able to work with my injury in this same small group environment and I am pain free as of today. Absolutely incredible. To say the least there is still work to be done to make sure this injury doesn't happen again but I wouldn't trust anyone else than him to get me where I want and need to be.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this place whether you are a beginner or an expert to working out. The skills and knowledge these trainers provide is invaluable.

Dan (another trainer) always helps and constantly pushes me to be better in lifting, form and my goals to get back on the diamond after rupturing my Achilles and having surgery.
Trina (trainer) pushes me to more athletic with her dynamic work outs that require me to more in shape and to also help me prepare for the upcoming season.
Mollie is very understanding when I can’t make an appointment due to my crazy work schedule, she always answers in a timely fashion.

Bottom line is, everyone here is amazing and want the best for me and that was clear from day one.

3/1/23 Today was my last day at C&A. But before anyone jumps to the negativity train for your conclusion, I'll let you in on the secret. This was the absolute best investment in myself that I have ever made. Since day 1, Quint has been by my side as my coach, confidant, motivator, educator and I attribute every success I have had, large or small, to his training and ability o get 200% out of me every session. In the past 12 months I have shed my fair amount of tears in front of him due to excitement, or frustration, or exhaustion and today, the tears are from great sadness that I am unable to continue this amazeballs journey with him. Circumstances in everyone's life changes, as has mine. This was one of only a few outlets that I had for true self care, something I do just for me. I'm devastated that my situation has brought me to a point where I need to sacrifice my own goals for the sake of others.
When things improve, you can bet your PR that I will be back with bells on. The gym as a whole is a fantastic place to be, and it's people are even better. To Quint: A very heartfelt thank you for investing so much of your time in me.

I came to Derek looking for a way to help with chronic hip pain that was caused by a torn hip labrum. I had seen an orthopedist and chiropractor who both said I would have to live with the pain or have surgery. I was convinced I would never lift weights with my lower body again, which as an athlete was hard I found Derek for not only did he educate and guide me more than the orthopedist and chiropractor but also gave me a solution and gave me the opportunity to live pain free. I have found ways through his help and programming to strengthen my muscles surrounding my hip to help me get back to my normal self and to a lifting routine that I would have never imagined was possible. He is an amazing instructor and I would recommend him to anyone with any ongoing issue or anyone who is looking for fitness and wellness solutions. His knowledge base is so extensive it is such a pleasure to work with him, learn from him and have results from him. Couldn’t be happier and more fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Derek.

In addition to Derek, he has an amazing team who has made me feel like family after attending one session. The second you enter the gym you are welcomed by the wonderful Mollie who always greets you with a smile. I have the pleasure of working with Quint, Katrina and Tyler who are all amazing and ensure I’m moving properly to move pain free.

I highly recommend working with Derek and his amazing team! You will not regret it and gain a gym family for life!

I never thought I’d love to go to the gym this much, but here we are - loving it! On top of all of this I am seeing results. Thank you Quint, Katrina and team for pushing me out of my comfort zone!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

I’ve been a member at CAFP for 3 months and love the training! The staff and the facility make all the difference. Rather than going through the motions at a chain gym, the trainers at CAFP are very knowledgeable and help clients stay accountable, challenged, and progressing. And it’s actually fun, too!

This was my first time ever working with trainers and the first time I was serious about my health. I led a very sedentary lifestyle. I started as a 45-year-old woman with all sorts of health ailments. This includes, obesity, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, herniated discs, poor posture and anxiety. I was never one to like working out at a gym because I never knew how to use the equipment and I always felt intimidated. I really needed to find good trainers to help me get active again. The trainers at Compass and Anchor are the BEST! They are all at the top of their game, knowledgeable and up on the latest most effective training techniques. The trainer’s personality was exactly what I was looking for. The moment I stepped foot everyone was so supportive and uplifting. They truly care about you and want to see you hit your goals and succeed.
I have been training with Quint and Katrina and have so many positive things to say! Quint makes the workout fun. He is an incredibly knowledgeable trainer. I am so impressed with his extensive knowledge on fitness and nutrition. He always has a well thought out answer to any question I’ve ever asked… He’s clearly an expert in his field. Additionally, He is very personable and caring and keeps me motivated, focused, and challenges me to maximize each rep, exercise. Katrina is very knowledgeable and always gives me great pointers on nutrition. I also love how motivating and encouraging she is. We always have such great conversations. Mollie is the sweetest and so welcoming. If I ever have a problem with scheduling, she is always able to accommodate and is very easy to get a hold of.
I find myself looking forward to working out here and leave feeling challenged. Through this journey, I have more energy. The constant pain that I had in my neck has decreased significantly. My anxiety has decreased and I’m actually able to keep up with my kids. They have completely transformed my life. Thank you for the encouragement and support to feel the best I have felt in years!
If you’re someone who is worried about working out for the first time and just need good people, this facility is worth every penny. These guys are excellent at what they do. They will help you achieve your fitness goals and have a good time doing so. I hope other women — no matter what their age or current ability — come and try Compass and Anchor. I'm so happy I finally found an environment where I actually look forward to going in working out!

I’ve been with Compass for over 2 years. I’ve been trained by Dan for over a year. All trainers are awesome, but Dan, Dan the muscle man is the best. Dan has patience. Dan keeps on point. Dan is there for each of his clients. Dan plans out my workouts to fit my needs. Dan knows I deal with knee and shoulder issues which Dan has helped me overcome. Dan is Professional. Dan’s attitude is fantastic, and Dan loves to workout. The whole team but especially Daniel has made it so I will not workout anywhere else! Thank you Danny and the Compass team.

I learned about Compass and Anchor through Derek and was immediately interested in trying them out. I've always liked the small class size where your trainer can get to know you.

For the past year I've been working with Dan to reach my fitness goals. With Dan's workout plans, I've gotten stronger much faster than I did by myself. He's also very knowledgeable about ways to helps prevent injuries and reduce pain. Dan's the man!

Quint is another knowledgeable trainer who likes to bring some fun into the workout. Whenever I need a challenge, Quint never fails to push me.

This is the best team you're ever going to work with!!!

I've tried a lot of plans throughout the years and had some success, however if you want the very best then you need to go to Compass & Anchor Fitness.

Let me start with Derek - this is the trainer that has it all. You are going to get mind, body and soul training with this guy. The kicker is he can also fix aches and pains. He is just that good.

Next we have Dan - he is solid, a motivator, will help you get motivated and achieve new levels of strength. Dan will bring the best out in you.

Katrina is simply the best at core crushing work. She works in solid fundamentals and good pace. Don't get complacent though because the end of the workout will make all core muscles need recovery for days.

Last but certainly not least is Quint the Architect Johnson - you will never be the same. He listens and designs workouts that will test your body and mind. Experience and creativity come together in this guy to create the workout experience you will get nowhere else.

In summary - this place is the best you're going to get for all levels. They work with you to ensure you get what you want and need out of your workouts.

I’ve been going to Compass & Anchor for about three months now and can honestly say it’s changing my life. Utilizing a personal trainer was exactly what I needed to find that motivation and accountability to get fit again. To say everyone there are absolute professionals would be an understatement. Derek, the owner and my trainer is extremely knowledgeable on proper form and technique and has a deep understanding of the body and is certainly in tune with my needs. I never thought I’d be lifting weights the way I am, but with the proper coaching, focus on technique, and oversight with the 1:1 training it’s been amazing so far and the effects are noticeable. The gym itself is modern, clean, spacious, and everyone there again is super cool. I’ll be going there for the foreseeable future and urge anyone who’s stuck trying to find “that thing” that gets them unstuck to go visit and see what it’s all about. Edit: now also working with my new trainer Quint who is also great! Can’t say enough good things about this place!

Quick review:

Training with Derek changed my life. His workouts were fun, always changing, and an interesting challenge I never left him feeling like I was pushed beyond a safe limit like some trainers force on you. Rather, I would leave feeling good and suddenly after his reasonable and helpful diet coaching and exercise I was in the best, leanest shape of my life.

Legit review:

I worked with Derek for almost a year and only ceased training with him because I moved. I have worked with a couple of trainers before Derek and tried like hell to find a replacement after I moved and truly, no one compares. I have always been a runner, but when I came to Derek I was feeling unmotivated, harboring extra pounds and feeling tremendously unhealthy. My diet was a mess. Somewhere between Paleo meets ‘give me carbs’ meets ‘binging on weekends’ and he transformed my diet, body and subsequent mind to the healthiest I’ve ever been.

Before working out with Derek, I hated lifting weights. The “women don’t bulk up” theory doesn’t apply to me because when I did crossfit I bulked. A lot. I was working out like crazy spending probably 1.5 to 2 hours dedicated to the workout between driving, waiting for the class to start, and driving back – such a huge time suck and for a body that barely fit into jeans because I was so bulky. When I started with Derek, I explained all of this. My issues and also time constraints. We devised a plan where I came in 3x a week at 30 min sessions. Of course this cannot be promised to everyone but for me, I started seeing results in 2 weeks, maybe less. My weight started to decline but more impressively my body fat definitely nosedived and my goodness did that feel good! Derek actively measures you which is important. Trainers that aren’t tracking you and going by appearance or scale alone are doing you an injustice.

During our workouts we talked about food, what I was eating, tweaks to make. I learned about macros/micros etc and learned an understanding of them but NEVER did I feel like a prisoner to diet or tracking it. Derek actually listened to what was going on – there were times that I was on the road and truly it was a quest bar and maybe a grilled chicken sandwich were the only options I had. He never shamed me for that like other trainers have. We would just keep moving with the reasonable understanding that life happens.

That brings me to our workouts! I never knew what I was walking into. Some days may have been strict lifting, other HIIT style workouts, some we were outside doing resistance sprints (my fave), boxing…you name it. It was never ever boring. You didn’t have to think, just do. You don’t waste your precious 30 minutes getting the equipment set up or cleaning up – it was ready for you and when you were done, you were done. Such an incredible luxury.

Fast forward 3 months and I never felt or looked better. I couldn’t wait to work out. Not just at the gym but even an evening run or spin class too. As someone who knows how obnoxious it is to hear someone addicted to the workout high, I get it, but that was me and truly continues to be. After 2.5 years of trying to conceive, fertility treatments that prohibited me from exercise to having a high risk pregnancy, to figuring out life with a baby I am finally back to that obnoxious can’t wait to work out mode again, actively practicing the principles learned during my previous time with Derek. At this point, I’ve given up the search of finding a great trainer and I’ve made my own home gym and will be virtually training with Derek again.

If you are local (or not), regardless of your age, your physical state – do yourself the biggest favor and go to Derek. He will change your life, excuses he doesn’t tolerate but hard work and being reasonable, empathetic and patient he will. You are worth the financial and time investment, and Derek is by far the best one you could make.

I met Derek 5 years ago when he was a personal trainer and manager at a small personal training studio. I was instantly impressed with his knowledge of how the human body moves & fuctions. Through training sessions I learned proper form and increased lean muscle, core strength and balance. Currently, I am working with Derek in a combination of fitness training and nutrition counseling. He developed a custom training program that includes in person sessions and workouts I do independently. He's always quick to respond to questions and make adaptations as needed. The nutrition plan has educated me on proper nutrient levels I need to lose weight and improve my overall health. Following this plan, I am losing weight at a steady and reasonable rate - about 1 pound per week - and eating more calories than I expected. This is not a "diet". It is a real life, flexible approach that is sustainable long term. Thanks to Derek, I have all the tools I need to achieve my goals.

I came to see Derek after a few fair experiences with personal training - mostly trainers pushing me until I almost passed out. After sitting down and discussing my health and exercise history he assured me that he was there to help me start a program at my own pace...and he stuck to his word! I knew when I came to train I was in a comfortable and safe gym. I was heard and encouraged during the session, and felt excited at the quick progress I was making. I always looked to forward to my next session. I’ve trained with Derek in the past during and following a complicated foot injury (sesamoiditis), along with general strength and conditioning. Derek is truly the most knowledgeable, supportive, genuinely personable, and invested professional trainer I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with. After being told by several orthopedic specialists I would need to tolerate limited mobility, intermittent pain, and deter from high intensity movements, Derek made this possible for me. He identified, isolated, and offered me solutions for areas requiring further strengthening and mobility.
