Jen is a wonderful coach for all types of athletes and is definitely a mentor for those who want to progress in their strength and overall cardio fitness. I have gained so much confidence in myself and in my physical fitness since I began my one on one training with her a few years back. Jen’s workouts are creative and fun, she emphasizes basic skills as well as the progression that consistency and good coaching will foster. Jen has gotten me on the bike for spin classes which I thought would never be something I would enjoy but she and her coaches are terrific at leading energetic and fun classes.
I love being part of the Bespoke community! We are so lucky to have this incredible workout facility in our town.

Bespoke has been great!

Jen and her team at Bespoke have created something special. You can tell she really puts her heart into the business and wants to help you succeed with your fitness goals. In just one year I've noticed a tremendous improvement in my fitness, physical and mental health along with meeting some really great people. There are people of all ages and fitness levels and everyone is so supportive and helpful to each other. The bikes are always well maintained and have lots of quick adjustment settings making it easy for anyone. I originally joined in the mountain bike off season, but was so impressed with the community and fitness results I've incorporated into my weekly routine year round! I took a 4 week swim clinic with Coach Dave. Going into the clinic, my experience with coaching and swimming was limited to what I could find online. I cannot recommend this clinic enough - working with Coach Dave, who has decades of experience as a swim coach, has had an immediate impact on my swim. He provides feedback on technique, as well as guidance with how to structure workouts. I have seen immediate results in the pool, and am excited to see how this translates in open water next race season! In addition, the Bespoke community is incredibly friendly, and provide some friendly competition to make these sessions enjoyable.

Until becoming a student at bespoke I had not found a spin class in CT that I fully enjoyed since moving from Boston to Stonington in 2012. Jen and her team are athletes and professionals. The spin class simulates training on the road and offers various options for new and experienced riders and anyone looking to improve their fitness and health! For anyone that doesn’t want to read my whole review I’ll say I highly recommend the training services through this gym. I wanted to sign up for a triathlon to give myself a training goal but I didn’t have any competitive swimming experience. I came across Jen Massengale and her gym Bespoke and decided to reach out to see if they could help me out. Jen called me and we discuss my experience (or lack thereof) and she worked with my to setup a group class combining a month of two sessions a week, one in the pool and one in open water. During the pool sessions we worked on our form and techniques utilizing drills Jen would go over at the beginning. I have a demanding schedule and had to miss the two middle open water classes but even still with all I learned in one month of training, I went from being gassed swimming 1/3 mile in a pond to swimming over a mile in the bay and feeling like I could keep going! I still have a lot of work to do to perfect my form but in one month I have built so much confidence going into my triathlon next month.

I got a lot out of the Mastering Distance Swimming clinic. Coach Thompson was great—his approach was straightforward and effective. Masters swim program was excellent! Coach Dave is a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor. Improvement in swimming technique makes a huge difference and a I learned and was able to practice many things I was not aware of. Class was a good workout also but not exhausting , if you can swim comfortably for 500 yards I definitely recommend taking the class!

I went to Jen for nutrition coaching, and I learned things that I wish I had known 30 years ago. Up to this point, I had been eating a pretty poor, non-nutritious diet -- I was basically just eating anything when I was hungry, and I had to make up for this with lots of lots of exercise. However, as I got older, this became harder and harder to sustain. Now I feel like I am on a path where I can make and eat food that are good for me and my overall health on a long-term, sustainable basis.

A safe , no judgement zone for all levels of fitness.
Recovering from advanced Lyme, two injured adductor muscles and newly diagnosed autoimmune issues, to say I am out of shape is an understatement.
My anxiety was high going in, I used to be fit. I still don’t feel like myself but I wanted to start back slowly with someone I know and trust. Jen is that person.
The music was fun, the other students were so kind. Jen allowed me to stay in the active recovery zone the entire time and praised me during class for showing up for myself, never pushing me to go harder but to do what I was comfortable with. I needed all of that. Baby steps to get strong again.
Feeling vulnerable for so long can knock you down hard, this nurturing environment is exactly where I need to be to get back up and fight for the healthy me I know is ready to return.

I love Bespoke! I enjoy the spin classes, strength workouts, and the nutrition coaching. Jen is highly knowledgeable, nonjudgmental, and welcomes everyone at any fitness level! When I developed a running injury earlier in the season, Jen helped me keep my nutrition on point and figured out the right level of cross training for me at her spin and strength classes so I could continue to get stronger while I was healing. Bespoke is a 10/10 place to workout. There are options for everyone and all skills and abilities are welcomed by the owner and head coach Jen. Jen is extremely thorough when helping new members get set up and she has the highest end spin equipment. Her classes are motivating and she is always so encouraging. If you’re looking to increase your cardio (or strength as there are multiple combo classes with the opportunity to complete a metcon with strength training after a 45 minute ride) then look no farther because Bespoke is the place to go! So happy I gave it a try back in April!

This is a great spin experience. It will challenge any level cyclist. The Keiser bike app on your phone uses your ability to level a class of varied abilities and fitness levels. The studio is a nice old factory setting and instructor is very welcoming to new and beginning spinners. If your only slightly interested, you should try it, you will not be disappointed.

I highly recommend the reasonably priced spinning classes offered at BESPOKE - Cycling, Training. I signed up for 2023 spring classes (i.e., I’ve taken 10 classes to date) and found them ideally suited for beginner, and intermediate to experienced spinners.  The instructor for the spinning classes I attended was Jen, and she was always positive, high energy and apparently applied a good deal of thought in how she structured each class.

Jen encourages all spinners to challenge themselves to their level of comfort without judgment.  In the first class you benchmark your level of fitness by taking a functional threshold power test (FTP), using an app that is matched with your high quality spinning bike.  Hence, in subsequent classes that FTP data is used to challenge the spinner based on their specific fitness level.

In addition, Jen nicely incorporated music genres to match the cadence of each spinning segment.  Each spinning segment was generally some combination of high resistance with low cadence and low resistance high with cadence.  In order to further challenge us, she also frequently had us pedaling while standing up.  And again, she encouraged us to only pedal standing up within our comfort zone. It is also noted that the structure of her class, i.e., varying cadence and resistance (a.k.a., interval training), and position on the bike (i.e., standing/sitting), all contribute to muscle confusion, which is generally considered effective training.  Lastly, the high quality spinning bikes are easy to configure and operate.  Again, I highly recommend the reasonably priced spinning classes offered at BESPOKE.

I was fortunate to attend a session at BESPOKE spin studio in the Velvet Mill in Stonington! As an older person with no spinning experience, I was a bit hesitant about attending. However, I was pleasantly surprised! Jen, the owner and instructor, was fantastic! She is very organized and able to meet the needs of beginner and experienced within each class. I never felt pressure to keep up with the others and was encouraged to go to each level that felt comfortable at my own pace. The studio is bright, airy and well stocked!
