Studio is above Club Ramaj. Look for that sign. Enter 216 building and take elevator to 2nd floor or walk the steps. It is so worth it... Stunning space. Knowledgeable teacher. I have studied at dozens of places all over the country, this is a top 5 on my list. Price is on par with Yoga in a city. Lovely boutique with some pre-loved clothing and other cute items. Will come back when I come to the area again in July. Om π

I am new to yoga and started my journey here. I was worried about how approachable the classes would be since I didn't know anything but the instructors were amazing and super helpful!
Kristen's Tuesday classes are my favorite. It's a very lively and fun class and a great way to end your evening.
Marlene's restorative classes on Mondays are soo relaxing!
If you're a beginner I would recommend trying out the gentle and restorative classes first. It helped me familiarize with common poses.

Studio is hard to find, limited parking. Elevator is broken and studio door was locked with no sign outside that class was canceled. No one answered the phone.

I have been searching for a yoga studio ever since I moved back to CT in 2018. Walking into Breathing Room, I knew I'd finally found it. The small shop in the lobby is very cute and the studio space itself is completely relaxing. I took a class with Marlene and was so grateful for how comfortable she made me feel. She consistently gave us alternative options for poses in a very natural way. At the end of the practice, she acknowledged yoga's origin and gave thanks for all the teachers before us. It was a subtle moment but very impactful.
I am very aware of the cultural appropriation surrounding yoga and I'm so grateful to have found a studio that is actively doing better. I obsessively read their website before signing up for the 2 week trial and attending class. I was not disappointed.
You wont be either!

I have had such an amazing experience at Breathing Room since first entering βthe Hearthβ in early October. From the attentiveness of the teachers to the inspirational space, this studioβs energy has helped me grow my practice on and off the mat. The community is inclusive, the classes are challenging and accessible, so for anyone who wants to expand their practice or start as a new student, itβs a place thatβs hard to compare to other studio, and I have been to many. Thank you Breathing Room for showing up when I needed a place to practice in CT!

When I entered the doors of Breathing Room for the first time two years ago, upon a friend's recommendation, immediately the words, "I'm finally home," drifted through my awareness, and I knew I was in a very special place. The atmosphere is peaceful and soothing in every way--from the calming and thoughtful decor to the compassionate, professional energy exuded by everyone who works there. Seeking to gain balance and flexibility following a leg injury, I started with Restorative and Yin Yoga and have since begun regularly practicing Yoga Nidra and Vinyasa as well. I have also taken many of the workshops offered, including those for grief, meditation, anxiety/depression, essential oils, and cleansing practices. Every single teacher is extremely competent, caring, and present. The staff adapted seamlessly to a virtual platform last year, and there have consistently been a variety of classes and workshops, with many convenient times (now both in person and via Zoom). Breathing Room has given me so much more than a more flexible body: I have better health, a community, and a new way of living.

She taylors the class to her audience by taking requests for muscle groups to stretch.

Having been a member for over two years now, I can honestly say, I have never felt more at home in the beautiful environment that has been thoughtfully curated at The Breathing Room in New Haven CT. It is welcoming and encourages the coming together of a diverse community. From the front boutique entry on the 2nd floor of 216 Crown Street, where you are always greeted by a smiling friendly staff member. Through the common areas and cozy Den library, to each of the three main studios. You are surrounded by gracious teachers and mentor figures, in the pursuit of guiding the yoga and all it's facets that apply to bringing it into your daily life. The collective of students, reflects the special energy The Breathing Room so generously provides in studio, outdoors or virtual classes and events. I have much gratitude to Margot and my inspiring teachers and fellow students, and pray we remain in sacred community for many more years to come!

My practice has improved for me because of every class is led with care and expertise so that I have become stronger and more confident no matter who is teaching the class. The studio is gorgeous, Kirk's parking lot is so convenient that I can arrive a few minutes before class begins and be relaxed and ready to drop into myself. No matter what age you are, you can get so much out of your practice with Breathing Room.

Breathing Room was one of the first yoga spots that I tried when I moved to New Haven from Philadelphia. I was a little overwhelmed, as I was more used to much smaller yoga studios, but this has quickly become my yoga home.
The space is absolutely beautiful, and I really love the variety of classes and times. I feel like there is always something different to try. The teachers are always compassionate, and the staff at the front desk is friendly. The teachers always teach to what my spirit, body and mind need most at the time, while still holding space for everyone.
I always look forward to learning more about myself and my yoga practice through their classes and workshops. I highly recommend The Breathing Room to yogis of all levels.

LOVE the new space. In the big room, we had our workshop, and it had such a warmth - and despite the fact we had a large attendance in class- the acoustical layout of the room, it still felt intimate. The renovations embraced the character of the building - from the large accents like the huge fireplaces- down to the details. Canβt wait to come back for another class soon. Great job Margot!

This place is TOO nice. Gorgeous space but the atmosphere seems to fall on the fancy / slightly overproduced end of yoga spots, to me anyway. And I find myself wanting for the more ego-destroying 90 min hot yoga classes, such as those offered at True Bikram on Orange st.

This is a great yoga studio. I actually settled on Fresh yoga which is a block away because I really like a particular instructor there (Ed), but if you're new to New Haven you should definitely go here and to Fresh and just see which one you prefer.

Breathing Room is a great studio. The space is inviting, beautiful, and filled with windows. The studio provides mats and other props for use during class, along with storage space for those of us who have our own mats. I have taken classes with all of the instructors at some point or other. Each teacher has his or her own style -- some with music, some without; some emphasizing props, others not -- and I have learned a lot from each of them. The community events are great, and I feel very blessed to have started taking yoga at such an amazing place a year and a half ago.

This is my favorite place. I have the opportunity to come here just a few times a year, but every time I do, I have the best experience. I live in Brooklyn and travel for work, and have not found anything that comes close to Breathing Room Yoga. The space itself is welcoming and has a truly smart, lovely and open design. The community is small enough that you are not overwhelmed in a herd (like in NYC) and you get a lot of personal attention because of that. Margot's classes are challenging, stimulating, and just plain fun. Her presence is always centering and I find the greatest focus, mentally and physically, in this studio. It is very drop-in friendly with reasonable prices and no mat 'rental fee'; it has a nice website so you can buy and book ahead of time. Very thankful for this studio.

Breathing room is more than just a yoga studio. Margot has created a community. The girls at the front desk will try to know your first name as quickly as they can. The room itself is open, bright and clean. You will leave not only drenched in sweat, but in a better space mentally. Margot has beautiful insight on getting through the every day grind of life, and listening to her while you are you in your downward dog with amazing pop music in the background, is something that can't really be described in words. You're just going to have to try it for yourself, I promise, you'll be hooked.

Breathing Room is a great yoga center in downtown New Haven. There are two separate studios, both of which are beautiful spaces to practice. There is a wide offering of classes such as yin, power vinyasa, candlelit, etc. Make sure to catch a class with the owner, Margot, to experience BR's signature lotus flow vinyasa. I also recommend BR because there is a really great community of yogis; just a few months ago I was new to yoga, but I felt welcome. It can be a great place to meet people if you are new to New Haven. I think some of the other studio options in the area are very commercial, but at BR I don't get this vibe. There's also a good class card deal for new students, so it's worth checking out (you'll stay!).

Breathing Room is a great space populated by a welcoming community. I'm still a novice after just a few short months of practice, but I am improving steadily thanks to BR instructors and classmates. I'm also more likely to go to classes since I enjoy being in the studio, and I always feel awesome when I leave.
