I was just recently notified that Redline—the advertised “signature class of Club 24” is no longer being offered in middletown basically
this was done with no notice. i’m trying to understand why it is no longer offered. the class regularly well attended and is the sole reason i joined Club 24. i drive 20 minutes to go to this location just for the classes.
i will cancel my membership if the classes are not reinstated. the gym is not worth the drive

Gym and staff are solid, but the members are horrendously inconsiderate and lack gym etiquette. Weights are always left out all over the place, people put their bags on equipment then walk away for 20mins, and it's pretty tiring always being in the back of people's mirror selfies.

If management started demanding members to step their game up and behave like adults it'd be 5 stars for the location/cost.

Disappointed with Constant Class Cancellations and Lack of Communication

I’ve been a member of Club 24 for about 10 years now, and I am beyond frustrated with their cancellation of the Redline classes, with absolutely no notice. It’s extremely inconvenient, especially when you plan your schedule around participating in a class three times a week. This is part of the reason why I signed up for this gym. The lack of communication and respect for members' time is unacceptable.

I’ve reached out to customer service, but haven’t received satisfactory responses or any effort to improve the situation.

If you're looking for consistency and reliability, this gym is definitely not the place to be. Save your money and your time — find a gym that values your commitment as much as you do.

I’ve been a member of this gym for a while now, and unfortunately, my experience has been pretty disappointing due to the lack of attentiveness from the general manager. The gym is often in need of basic maintenance and cleaning supplies, and despite multiple requests, nothing seems to get fixed. The equipment is sometimes out of order for weeks at a time —yet these issues are rarely addressed by upper management management. Upper management, meaning general manager or whomever is in charge of orders and maintenance.

That said, I want to give credit where it’s due. Sam and Cassie are absolute standouts! They’re incredibly hardworking, friendly, and always doing their best to keep the place running smoothly. They do their best to maintain a welcoming environment, and you can tell they genuinely care about the members. They’re always friendly, helpful, and try to make the most out of the situation, even when the gym is clearly lacking in resources. It’s a shame that the manager seems so disconnected from the day-to-day operations and concerns of the gym, because the hardworking staff really deserve better support.

If the general manager would just put more effort into keeping the gym in shape and responding to member needs, this could be a much better place. But for now, it feels like the staff are doing the heavy lifting while management stays out of sight.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my experience at Club 24 in Middletown, specifically with the "self-proclaimed" childish GM, Veronica Agbanyo. Despite submitting a written request to cancel my membership, I continued to be charged monthly, constituting a clear violation of my agreement. The club facilities, particularly the restrooms, were consistently dirty and unhygienic. A significant portion of the gym equipment was either broken or in need of repair, severely limiting my workout options. The cinema, a key advertised feature, was frequently out of order, rendering it unusable. These ongoing issues have significantly diminished my experience at Club 24. I urge Veronica and management to address these concerns promptly and take steps to improve the quality of service and maintain a clean and functional facility.

I’ve been a member of Club 24 since 2016, and it’s been such a great experience! The gym has all my favorite machines, and I’ve never had to wait to use them. The atmosphere is always welcoming and comfortable.

Recently, I renewed my membership, and the manager, Veronica, went above and beyond to make it easy. She was incredibly kind, patient, and professional throughout the process. I also ran into an issue this week with the staffed hours and the door still being locked, and Veronica stepped in to resolve it right away. She made me feel heard and cared for, which means so much.

TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. No accountability or desire to fix issues on their end. Miss-charged 200$ in Nov, and still have yet to be refunded , pushing me to request a cancellation of my account and I cancelled that card used on file. None of those requests have been fulfilled. I have not been contacted by anyone at the gym other than to tell me my monthly membership payment is past due. When I explain the situation and request to speak with Mike(the manager) he is either not there or will “call me back” which still has yet to happen. It's a nice place, but the staff needs to be more attentive to when machines are wiped down and when wipes are not available for patrons to use. The projector in the "theater" has not been working for a while due to "bulb replacement", which seems to be taking forever to repair. Been down for like a month now....bummer...

I received a call from a young woman named Cassie who informed me I was late paying my bill. I informed her I stopped the bank payments because after coming in physically to cancel a couple weeks after joining I was upset being charged over a hundred dollars afterward. I was then told to come back AGAIN in person to pay for another 30 days after paying for months and a yearly fee….the only time I ever stepped in the place was to cancel a couple weeks after joining. I’m apparently trapped and they won’t let me talk to a supervisor or cancel with out paying more. I’ve been to a lot of gyms and never had any issues like this. Cassie who called basically enjoyed repeatedly telling me I can’t cancel without paying. The only other review/comment that read basically said something along the same lines ….iI would recommend being fat before joining this place.

ANXIETY BULLIES
My daughter went on line and called and was told she had to come in person to cancel her membership, she has anxiety issues and becomes very upset in pressure situations with people she doesn’t know, she went to the torrington branch and requested to cancel her membership and repeatedly was told to pause the membership to which she did her best to refuse and demand cancellation until her anxiety level was to the point she just signed a form, fast forward 1 year and she was trying to make a purchase and her credit was ran and we found out it is now no good because the gym sent her to collections over $100, I called and spoke with mike mcdowell who refused to pull her from collections let alone remove the charges as she has never been back since she canceled the membership stating she signed the form ( she was bullied into signing) and was emailed numerous times about the account ( found 2 in her spam box) . 7 years bad credit seems like a strong punishment for not paying a membership that but for the fact they bullied her into pausing instead of canceling, which she requested, wouldn’t be an issue at all

I recently had to change my membership from the Orange plan to the basic. I paid a $21 cancellation fee and $52 to open the Basic membership. The person at the desk did not tell me that it is only a 24 hour gym for orange members. I can no longer access the gym anytime. I was an orange member for just shy of one year. Other people I know that work out here have the basic membership and have full access. I asked one of the Asso. She told me they changed the policy. . Anybody that already had a basic membership is grandfathered in. This is very unfair considering I was already a member for one year. Also, when I signed up for the basic membership, the price at the gym was $2.79 per week but online it was $1.99. I was told that I would have to sign upon my phone in order to get the 1.99 deal so I did but when the first billing cycle came, I was charged $2.79. I’m not sure what’s going on here but the whole thing has got me pretty upset, I like the gym and the fact that it’s a 24 hour access gym but if this can’t be fix I’m just going to keep this membership for one more year to get my moneys worth that I had to pay for cancellation of the old membership and the re-signing of the new membership and find another gym to go to. There are too many other options in town to deal with this aggravation.
Just beware if you are thinking about getting a membership here it is only a 24 hour gym for their top-tier membership. Otherwise, you can only access the gym when staff is working. Thank you, Jim T.

There’s 2 kinds of gyms. Super commercial; think Planet Fitness and those snobby Californian private gyms, and dungeon-ey. Club 24 was a dungeon-ey gym for a long time but they’re attempting to go more commercial, and that in between is very pleasant to me. Would recommend for kids and young adults. If you’re older, I doubt you’d care about these 2 types, come in and check it out. Club 24 is desperate for memberships and offer trials and a cheap sign up fee to bait you into the true standard membership; the orange.

I would give this place a 0 if I could. From horrible bathrooms to no working water fountain, to disgusting treadmills. This place is trash. Also, BEWARE of their deceitful schemes to keep you paying. Their “Cancel Anytime” is a lie. When you want to cancel you have to submit a “Request to cancel” and you never get a response. For 3 months I tried to cancel, even in person, all they can do is “request to cancel” through their website and nothing comes of it. Got fed up with the process and choosing instead to do it the hard way. BBB complaint and canceling my charge card. Kept charging me even through the entire process 3 months post my cancelation notices and another month after I moved. Their manager was a piece of work.

Horrible treatment of their customers and class instructors. They abruptly/no notice cancelled ALL classes (Zumba, yoga, etc) to turn the classroom into yet another room for more equipment. They never told their patrons and just make them show up to learn it's not happening. They told instructors the day of "effective immediately" there are no classes at all. These are instructors and class attendees who have been teaching and working out together for over a decade. Then when we try to cancel or change our more expensive orange membership (which is supposed to provide classes for the higher price) and they charge $90 to do so or keep charging monthly fees for 30+ days.....even though they are not providing the services/classes they are obliged to provide in the contract for more expensive membership rates! Horrible, disrespectful treatment of instructors who have served them for so long and no regard or respect for customers!

Beware of the "no contract" deal. They still make it a nightmare to cancel and will keep charging you after ending the membership. They contacted me saying that the only way I could avoid collections is to agree to an extended membership. Are you kidding me? Don't go to this gym or any gym that does their billing with ABC financial. Staff is nice, I see the new employees cleaning, decent amount of benches, squat racks and dumbbells so thats a plus, but everything else, not so much. Cardio equipment is old, treadmills bounce around as you just walk, pedal bikes are ancient with bent pedals and rock hard seats. Leg press machine been broken for months now, some of the machines you can't get the pin in properly to select weight. Its nice to have a gym in that area, but ownership seems to honestly not care very much to improve quality or replace faulty equipment.

The incline on a number of treadmills is inoperable and has been for quite a few weeks. Some of the equipment has been broken for over a month (sign indicates out of service). Several containers of sanitary wipes have fallen from the wall and now rest on the floor.

I have been coming to Club 24 for years now. The recent upgrades to the gym/workout area have definitely opened the area up. But to be honest, the equipment is lacking in upkeep and repairs. The pins and rings in the machines are always broken or missing, the leg press machine has been broken for well over a month and there is a smith machine that has been broken for well over a year. I enjoy Club 24 and staff is helpful, welcoming and polite, but the equipment will dissuade new people from joining. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but I do like Club 24 and I know a significant amount of people who have joined elsewhere for these reasons specifically.

UPDATE: please see attached photo. Decided to scroll through other reviews and someone had the same issue as me. Gym Owner says it’s not true, but is exactly what I’m going through right now. Not “confused with Planet Fitness” so this just proves they’re liars and thieves.

DO NOT USE THIS GYM - SCAM AND PREDATORY PRACTICES - BROKEN EQUIPMENT NEVER GETS FIXED

I used this gym 3 years ago so hopefully some of this has changed, but I’ll give what I know.

When I used this gym regularly the equipment would regularly be broken and never would be fixed. Always a sign saying it’s on the schedule to be fixed, but never repaired.

My real issue is with the management who I called 2 years ago to cancel my membership since I moved out of state. Say I need to send a certified letter (fair, but scummy practice whatever).

I started getting phone calls 2 years after I sent the letter saying my account was past due?? Didn’t even realize I was still paying for this, but now they conveniently “lost it” and I have to send another and cover the past due balance to get my account cancelled.

“Manager” is never around I’ve called multiple times since moving away and the manager is always away. Desk manager has no power and hangs up when you don’t just roll over for their mistake. Offered to stay on the line and wait for the manager to “show up” and just hung up. Manager isn’t coming I guess.

Conveniently located gym with friendly, knowledgeable staff but could use some more equipment and decorative touches. Specifically another quad extension machine, a glute kickback machine, and a BOSU ball. For the aesthetic of the gym I think improving the lighting and updating the color scheme would go a long way. Very poor TV channel quality/selection doesn't help provide a distraction and therefore make treadmill time less tedious and more bearable. One of the few worthwhile channels, CNN, has no volume when buds are plugged in. Many coat hooks at front entrance and in men's locker room would be practical. The TV on the wall near the front desk seems to have some entertaining programming but is only visible when walking by.

Terrible gym, but convenient due to location and hours of operation. Besides equipment being poorly maintained and ALWAYS broken, management is absolutely atrocious and you can certainly tell the owners don’t care either, once they’re turning a profit. I’ve had countless conversations asking for small, common sense changes and it’s as though you’re talking to a wall. Would not recommend if you have another option! Lack of competition and its high convenience is the only thing keeping this gym afloat.

Any negative review you see is more than likely true. If you’re looking for something classy, this is NOT the place, regardless of the tier that you pay for.

Much of the equipment is old or doesn't work. I've been asking about the treadmills ( in theater and in the front) for a few months and they still don't work.
Many of the treadmills are unbalanced ( they rock, a lot, when running on them).
I've been a member for a long time and it seems like the gym is not getting much care and attention lately.

I don't recommend this gym. Yeah it's nice but when it comes to cancelling your account they hold you hostage and don't allow you to easily cancel like any other type of memberships. I've had other gym memberships through the years and have never experienced this. It's a made up policy to squeeze money out of people. They make you either physically come in to sign something or mail in a letter to cancel they refuse to do cancel over the phone even after providing all necessary information proving who you are. And to also mention they then charge you a full month stating there is a required 30 days notice for cancellation. This is totally against the law this type of bull. Stay away unless you really want to swindled. Not worth the hassle or frustration choose another gym and check their so called policy before joining to avoid such bull. Planet Fitness I would recommend if you are seeking a gym. Take heed.

The staff here are great, friendly and helpful. However, a lot of the weight machines, including their cable machines (which are missing a lot of attachments, and the ones they have are beat up) are old. They also don’t have enough cable machines and members tend to spend a lot of time on a machine without using it, so it’s difficult to get a machine that I want to use.

Don't waste your Money, the staff is rude, they change managers almost regularly, the current manager is RUDE, and a LIAR. They make it impossible to cancel and even if you freeze account, they still want to charge you. Also locker rooms smell moldy and equipment is out date and I don't think I've been there once where it all works.

Love this gym! The people are friendly and the equipment is always up to my personal standard!
The only thing I don't like is that there isn't someone working overnight for the 24 hour schedule. Some people can't get in during the day and if you are behind on a payment, they door locks and won't let you in. So ai feel like there should be someone there over night to help people out.
Other than that, I love this gym. Ever since WOW closed it has been my go to.

Charged me twice yearly fees, although they promised me not to charge anything when I updated the membership to orange. When I updated the membership to orange, I signed the contract until April 30. But today, I went there to cancel the membership they charged me extra $89. I froze my account for 2 months, but they told me it moved my contract anniversary to November. My suggestion is to not to go there.

I’d recommend joining another gym. The contract is vague and difficult to exit. The equipment is simply mediocre. The most unfortunate part of this gym, however, are the staff members themselves. Possibly due to youth and/or inexperience in the workplace, the majority come across as rude and unprofessional; this includes management, who at worst have been dishonest over a minor issue (a lost personal item).

I just joined this gym and I suppose you get what you pay for. It'll do for now. Out of curiosity, I googled other gyms in town. They have amazing reviews. Ive read the reviews of 3 club24 locations and there are so many bad reviews (mostly about money and cancelling and all these people can't be lying or wrong when they're strangers telling the same story) Ive only been a few times now and the bathroom was less than desirable. A broken lock on the handicapped stall. It just seems lazy. So many small things can be fixed that make a difference even aesthetically. I have a feeling I won't end up staying here.

It appears that the focus is on who brings a member in after hours when the staff is not present when technically some customers pay for it.....it should be more emphasis on cleaning the Middletown club. The bathrooms are so gross toliets are dirty everyday.... all kind of bugs in the shower area.... when was the last time you guys cleaned? Here is an idea ...Watch your cameras to keep track of how often your staff is cleaning..... this place has definitely declined all they care about is the sales and stalking guest who come in with the members....the health department would have a field day

Read before you join, your contract is subject to change.

Gym Staff is rude, specifically the manager Kyle, and Club 24 Middletown (or maybe all of them) do not honor the contracts you sign with them. I signed up in November 2021 for an orange pass for 2 years because it offered 1 free guest after 5am (yes 5am!) which I thought was a excellent deal. I go with my fiancé most morning at 6:30am so we can get to work on time.

I got a call this week which said they would now charge me $25 every time I brought her before 7am. When I explained I had a 2 year agreement, which I paid for up front in full, their solution was she comes to the gym 30 minutes after me or we go after work. I asked to speak to the owner and the manager said the owners would not speak to me.

The reason for this is because now, with their new schedule changes, no one would be at the front desk to sign her in and have her sign a liability waiver. Keep in mind that she has been coming in for the past year with me and has been signing the waver……on an iPad. When I asked if she could just sign the waiver digitally to resolve this issue and honor my contract they said they could not do that.

No integrity in honoring their members contracts/ agreements or understanding that coming in a half hour later means someone would be late for work and some people cannot go to the gym after work. I was made out to be a crook or a Nuisance for simply asking they honor their agreement.

I would be happy to remove this review if they call me back and honor their agreement.

Absolutely ridiculous. 2 years ago I cancelled my membership. Got a call today saying my payment is past due, even though I was told in person that my membership was cancelled. So I have not only been getting charged this entire time, but now they expect me to pay a late fee before they can “officially” cancel my membership.

Should have listened to the comments saying they had the same issue. Don’t recommend signing up for this place unless you want to have a headache when you try and move. Sketchy business with sketchy management.
