I joined CrossFit 033 about a month ago. I was a little apprehensive about joining because I had never done CrossFit before but I was looking for something more than just my normal workout. I was in pretty decent shape coming in but the movements that you learn in CrossFit I had never done before. The owners Tobi and Jess were there for my on ramp to teach me all the movements and skills that I would need to get started. They went over everything and made me feel like I was ready to start my first class! Once you start they have a great group of coaches that will answer all your questions and make you feel like you are welcome to be there! The members are just as welcoming and accepted me right in no questions asked. Is it hard? Yes it’s hard! Is it fun? Yes it’s fun! Will it challenge you daily! 100%! You get what you put in! I am one of those all or nothing personality types so I went all in. But even if you are just trying to move a little more 033 is the place for you! You can learn, grow and make your experience what you want it to be! If your afraid of going to a gym because you never have, it’s ok everyone starts somewhere! I never left my basement gym but there is no judgment at 033 only positivity and friendly faces! What are you waiting for call them and we’ll see you at the gym soon!

I joined 033 in May 2018 with zero CrossFit experience. Tobi and Jess have done a tremendous job creating a welcoming gym environment and programming that is challenging yet doable for all skill levels. The coaches are top notch and very knowledgeable, which makes it very easy for new members to feel comfortable in a class setting.

I have been a member at CrossFit 033 for just over six months now and I could not be happier with the gym, its coaches, its programming, and the welcoming, encouraging community. In the past six months I have not only seen significant improvements in my overall fitness and strength, but I have formed wonderful friendships with many of the members that I work out with on a daily basis. CrossFit 033 has something for everyone at every level- amazing strength programming, challenging (yet always approachable and/or scalable) workouts, nutrition coaching, a large gym space with plenty of equipment, and a team of coaches dedicated to (and knowledgeable in!) helping every member of class safely achieve his or her goals. Tobi and Jess have built a fantastic CrossFit community and I am thankful every day to be a part of it!

If your are considering a gym or on the fence whatsoever please do yourself a favor and go to 033. The community, coaching, programming, group classes, and personal training are beyond that of any gym I’ve been a part of. No matter your age, fitness level, or experience, you’ve got a home at 033. No more going to the gym to just workout, this place is like home and life changing for anyone who puts in the effort. At 40+ years old and countless fitness programs, I’m finally in the best shape of my life thanks to 033. A+++

I recently joined CF033 with the goal of complementing my cycling training with strength work. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed into a vibrant community led by Tobi and his exceptional team of coaches including Jeremy, Oskar, and Sarah.

CrossFit has provided me not only with a fun challenge but also with a supportive environment where progress is celebrated at every level. Despite having a journey ahead of me to conquer all RX workouts, I appreciate the encouragement and understanding from the CF033 team. They foster an inclusive atmosphere where scaling back is not only accepted but encouraged as part of the individual journey toward fitness goals.

I wholeheartedly recommend CF033 to anyone looking for a great fitness experience.

Joined the gym about 6 months ago, Tobi the new owner/operator and all his coaches and other members were all super welcoming and helpful. I went from inconsistently going to a big box gym to lift weights and rarely hit the cardio equipment, to going daily to 033. I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I was a athlete in college. The format and the staff keep me motivated; the workouts are varied and keep you coming back for more.

This has become my home away from home. I travel quite a bit and this is by far my favorite affiliate. I drop in here every other month and each time the experience gets better. 033 has undergone some changes and has made a great place even better. Toby, the owner is a great coach and his customer service is just as good. The programming/coaching is very organized, explained well and the coaches stay engaged during the entire class. The music choices are good too. I would recommend this place above any other in the greater Hartford area!

I joined Crossfit 033 a little over two months ago and it's been the best decision I've ever made. The coaches are amazing. They give you the guidance and one on one attention that you need to help you complete the workouts no matter what your skill level is. I'm someone that could never get into fitness or working out in any way. Since joining Crossfit 033 I workout 4-6 times a week and look forward to it everyday - even the really tough days. I've tried the boot camps, popular DVD programs, and numerous chain gyms and nothing has worked. I've had fantastic results in just a short period of time. I've also met some great people of all skill levels and ages! I couldn't be happier with my decision to join Crossfit 033!

Update to my original review:

At 34 I had basically given up on ever losing weight. I was 50+ lbs overweight and had been battling it for years. I had tried all kinds of diets, boot camps, gym memberships, infomercial purchases, etc. Nothing was working. None of these could hold my interest longer than two weeks. I always gave up. Then a friend suggested Crossfit. I gave him the “Eh, it’s not for me. I can’t do any of that stuff but I’ll go just so you’ll stop bugging me about it.” I arranged with Merle to attend a 6pm class on a Monday one night. That night I walked in and sat in the corner and didn’t really talk to anyone. I was shy and awkward with low self confidence at that point. I’m not an athlete and never was one in my high school years. I was terribly out of shape. A few people that night introduced themselves and shared their Crossfit stories/progress. After the WOD that night I signed up and committed to a 6 month membership – assuming if I lost interest I would only have to suffer through 6 months and not year or more.
It’s now approximately 4 months later from my first class and I’m completely obsessed. I look forward to going to 033 everyday. 4 months ago I would have never guessed I’d become someone that was excited to work out. When I joined 033 I was 175lbs but I’m only 5’1”. Now in just this short period of time since joining 033 and changing my diet to a Paleo lifestyle I have dropped 28 lbs and 4 pants sizes! For the first time I know that my goal is attainable. That’s a significant accomplishment for me given the fact that I had convinced myself that I would be overweight for the rest of my life! But in addition to the physical changes that have happened, my mental health has improved significantly. Crossfit has improved my outlook on life and my self confidence in all aspects of my life. The coaches are phenomenal. They are patient and willing to work with those of us that need that little something extra. I’ve worked mostly with Patryck as my coach. And from that first night through now it has been his guidance and patience (patience of a saint dealing with me ) that have helped me get this far. But all the coaches I’ve worked with are great. Not everyone is at the same skill level and they all do a great job of scaling all the workouts for each person so you get the most out of every workout to the best of your ability. In addition to the coaches, the entire Relentless Nation family is full of fantastic people. They are all welcoming and friendly, and even more than that they’re encouraging. I’ve never met a group of people with such positive energy.

Joining Crossfit033 has definitely changed my life for the better.

CrossFit 033 is one of five boxes in the CrossFit Relentless Nation. I have been a member at CrossFit South Windsor location for 3 months and recently had the opportunity to start taking classes at CF033.

The first that struck me when I walked into CF033 is the friendly feel and welcoming atmosphere. The coaches and the members alike introduce themselves make you feel right at home.

The second thing that I notice is the quality of the instruction provided by every coach I have met in the CF Relentless Nation and CrossFit 033 is no exception. It is obvious that the coaches know their stuff and go out of their way to make sure you are working safely. Often times newbies (like myself) are working on athletic moves that are unfamiliar or awkward. The coaches guide you on the proper technique or a scaled down version that provide you the building blocks to eventually progress to that first muscle up or hand stand push up.

If you have been interested in CrossFit and never given it a try, check out CrossFit 033. It is a great box, full of great people (coaches and members). You've gotten nothing to lose (except maybe a little un-wanted weight) and everything to gain (like a bunch of new friends and a stronger, healthier you).

I have been a member at crossfit 033 for over 6 months now. It is the best experience I have ever had at any fitness facility. The coaches are amazing, and always there to help. Awesome community! The coaches are great at modifying and scaling appropriately for each individual athlete and will push you to do your best. Five years ago, with absolutely zero athletic background/experience, I started in a friend's garage and have been doing CrossFit straight through without looking back. Prioritizing fitness and healthy eating is a great example to set for my daughter and I have never been more fit.

Just wanted to share a thank you to the relentless nation family...I have been to a lot of different gyms/facilities and on a lot of teams in my day. I played soccer & ran track before and after college and rugby during college (yes, for real I had a little more weight on me then). None of these gyms or teams have challenged me or made me feel as rewarded and accomplished like crossfit has. I've been with the relentless family for about 9 months now and it's made a tremendous impact on my life. I am stronger physically and emotionally and continue to grow in both. I appreciate all the continuous improvements too! You guys do so much to keep upgrading each box. Coming from a corporate day job, I admire how quickly you can implement change!! Thanks for all you guys do!

I decided to join CrossFit 033 for one month this past summer and one month over my winter break. I decided to join this summer because I was having trouble motivating myself to workout, and it was honestly one of the best decisions i've made for myself. I want to give you a little background so you know just how much CrossFit has done for me.

In 2009, I became seriously ill, was hospitalized for two weeks, and diagnosed with Lupus right before I was going to start playing lacrosse at UConn. I ended up having to take the semester off and could not play lacrosse that year. I lost all my muscle while I was sick and had to build myself up just to walk around my house. My motivation has never been the same since. Over the following year I worked to first walk, then run, lift, and sprint and was able to play lacrosse in the fall of 2010. Even though I have been on the team the past 3.5 years now, I still have not fully been myself. I haven't felt as determined, motivated, or as confident as I was before I was sick. It has been hard at times, but I've always managed to push through.

After just one month at CrossFit 033 this past summer, I felt my strength, determination, and motivation again for the first time in over three years. I felt more mentally and physically strong and more confident than I have in a long time. This winter, once again, CrossFit has been amazing. It sort of feels like my life is back. I think your "boxes" have down that for so many people which is incredible. Thank you so much for everything.

All the coaches show so much passion and dedication to helping us succeed. They are all concerned with our health and safety as well, which is awesome. I've learned so much from them and everyone at CrossFit. I will be back this summer and I can't wait to finally be a member for more than just one month!!

I have been working out at Crossfit 033 for about 3 years and I can say the experience has been nothing short of amazing. The owners and coaches want nothing more than to see every single member be the best they can be. The coaching and programming is top notch and is designed to be accessible by anyone. One of the cornerstones of Crossfit is scalability, and every workout can be modified based on skill level and experience. The community is also incredibly supportive and inviting, which makes all the difference.

I have been a member at CrossFit 033 since June 2012. Although I was intimidated to try CrossFit (I had not exercised regularly in a long time and had recently given birth to my second child), my experience at 033 has been nothing but wonderful. The coaches and programming are top-notch, and the community has more than exceeded my expectations. No matter what your fitness level or goals are, the coaches at 033 work personally with you to ensure you work out safely and effectively. I have tried many types of exercise over the years and nothing even comes close to producing the results I've gotten through CrossFit. Like many others, my only regret is not signing up sooner!

My journey into the world of CrossFit began five months ago - well actually, more like 15 months ago. I had heard of all of these crazy people getting into insane shape with CrossFit through Olympic lifting, running, rowing and doing other "unnatural" things (what's a burpee???). I saw a Living Social offer in September 2012 and thought, this is what I need to give me a jump start. I'd give it a month and be on my way. I was a "gym rat" back in my 20's and could do a decent bench press but hadn't consistently seen the inside of a gym in the past ten years. Oh I've paid my $10/month "Fat Guy Tax" to a number of GloboGyms but felt that I had to get in better shape before I could show my face there.

So after work one evening, I pulled up to CrossFit 033 with my Living Social coupon in hand and must have caught the class in mid-WOD. I watched from outside as people lifted and dropped what seemed like massive amounts of weight, jumped up on boxes over and over and then dropped to the floor doing the aforementioned "burpees" and I got cold feet. I thought, "No way is this chubby guy going in there!" Again I figured that I'd have to get in a little better shape before I headed back there!

Fast forward 9 or 10 months and another Living Social offer popped up. After going through vacation photos and finding my dust covered P90X DVDs in the basement I decided that it was time for a change. Being 41 years old with poor eating/sleeping habits and still paying my unused "Fat Guy Tax", I knew that I needed to do this. I convinced my wife Nicole to join me (using the unused LS Coupon) and we walked into 033 together on July 25th of this year. We again saw those "Crazies" lifting and jumping and doing burpees but we stayed. We met Coach Tim and it turned out that we had a private beginner's class. He ran us through the baseline WOD and I quickly realized how out of shape I was. Tim thoroughly explained the program and stressed form and safety over speed. We left a little shaky but I knew we were hooked!

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. This was definitely the case in jump-starting my journey with 033. Some days the drive to the Box was tough, not knowing what was in store - but in each class the coaches explained and broke down the WODs, scaled our weight appropriately and coached us on form and safety. The Team Spirit and camaraderie was like nothing I'd seen before at a gym. When was the last time you saw an entire gym cheer you on when you come in last place? They all make you feel like a champion in every class! What this does for your self-confidence is amazing and keeps you coming back for more.

Five months later, we both have seen unimaginable results! We have met some amazing people of all ages, fitness levels and all walks of life and the Coaches are first rate. The anticipation of getting to the Box each day makes me feel like a kid again. It's definitely one of the highlights of my day! And while we are there, it is an hour to unplug from everything and focus on true fitness. In just five months I feel stronger, more confident and my clothes don't fit anymore - definitely a good problem! I can honestly say that I haven't been in this good of shape since my early twenties. And I know the best is yet to come!

I can't say enough about Coaches Tim, Patryk, Dave "Ski" and Merle (and the rest of the crew!). Thank you for welcoming us into the fold and for guiding us through this journey. I look forward to what 2014 will bring!

So for those of you who are watching from outside - debating about whether or not to start, don't hesitate to jump in! Walk through the door and I can almost guarantee that CrossFit 033 (and the rest of the Relentless Nation) will be one of the best decisions of your life - the CrossFit Relentless family is hands down the best place to start your journey!

I started Crossfit in May 2011, when the Glastonbury box was just 1500 sq ft in the old location up the street. Now relocated into an 8000 sq ft fully state of the art box, it has been an amazing 2 ½ years for me personally and CF Relentless nation, now 5 boxes strong. Back in 2011, I had been looking for a new workout regimen, and discovered CF033 from an article in the Glastonbury Citizen about this strange new, intense and effective program of interval and functional training. Finding my way there to inquire, I signed up for a session, and after the first “try one for free” workout, I knew this was for me….the challenge, the coaching and the sense of community were all obvious from that very first wod.

Getting older at 62 at the time ( but not ‘old’ of course) I had 3 goals in mind- 1) stay fully functional in everyday activities and sports for the next 2 decades, 2) extend longevity by being fit, and 3) feel good mentally and physically most of the time. I also had one BIG bucket list ‘dream’ - to learn the sport of kiteboarding and kitesurf with my son Dan. I was determined to use CF033 to get fit enough to be to be able to do it.

I committed myself to do whatever was necessary to become REALLY fit at CF033 and the rest of what is now Relentless Nation. A few weeks after starting, I was still sore most of the time- but loving it. I asked Merle when I would get used to it and stop being sore. He looked dead at me and said “Never” The point of CF is to always keep your body guessing and change up things so you never get used to the same old routine. Anyway Merle was right, and I still love it, as wod soreness just hurts so good.

Diet? CF does not leave that out and does not underestimate its importance. Loving to eat sweets and salty snacks, I was hoping that wodding a lot alone would be enough to make me ripped. But then Glen said something to me I never forgot and had a profound impact on me eventually losing over 20-lbs and keeping it off. “Dave, you cannot out train a bad diet!” Remembering that and eating not purely but more paleolike and zonelike , 2 approaches endorsed by CF,was what did it for me-195 lbs down to 174 lbs and holding.

With the early hands on support of Merle, Glen and then all other great coaches at Crossfit ( shout out here of thanks to current 033 coaches Tim, Patrick and Dave), I have kept my commitment to work hard and regularly, and they have kept theirs. Merle and Glen eat sleep and breathe CF and doing whatever they can to make their facilities, programs and their members the best they can possibly be. And their coaches can share their passion. I go 3-4x per week on average, do strength and endurance feats at age 65 I could not do 30 years ago. I witnessed one of my fellow ‘seniors’ who started shortly after I did at 285 lbs maybe save his life at CF0333, losing 100 lbs and turning his life completely around. Living his dream.

On my “rest” days when I am not ‘wodding” , I am usually doing something “lighter” , like biking, walking, swimming or………kiteboarding. And I am living my dream this year, kiteboarding with guys ½ my age who are amazed by my fitness level, and yes, kiting this past summer with my son Dan. So special.

But anyone reading this can accomplish similar things, just bring your own commitment to all that CF033 and Relentless Nation has to offer. The entire support system is there, and they will be as committed to your fitness success as they have been to me. What would, for real, being in the best shape of your life and, for real, living your dream be worth? Just about anything, I’d say…you can do it! Start now with CF033. See you at the box.

I began my Crossfit journey 5 years ago this January and it has been the best thing that has ever happened to my health and fitness. At the time, very few people had heard of the sport and couldn't understand why I was doing such "crazy" things. I performed the wods, with friends, at a globo gym and got lots of stares from people around me. One of those women, believed in the sport so much, that she outfitted her garage with all the necessary equipment and several of us left the gym and headed to her garage. She later built a business that ultimately became CrossFit033.

With the explosive growth of CrossFit, there are boxes popping up on every corner. In fact one just opened 1.5 miles from my house. It would be so easy for me to choose to go their for convenience, but instead I choose to drive 17 miles, both ways, every day to CrossFit 033. You see not All Boxes Are Created Equally. There are so many things to consider: the facility, the amount of equipment, the class schedule, the programing, the class structure, the community of people, the expertise and continuing education of the coaches, and most importantly the integrity of the coaches to scale the workouts appropriately for your fitness level, educate you with proper and safe form, encourage and support you in your personal goals.

To me CrossFit 033 has all of the above. Their coaches are top notch, there instruction is consistent and excellent. The class structure and programming have an excellent balance of warm up, strength training and met con work. They have 5 facilities that you can attend so you can find a convenient time and place to wod in 5 top of the line facilities. The owners have also cultivated a community that are like family.

I love CrossFit 033 because you get to learn and perform a variety of skills, in all different ways. It is challenging, you do things, that at the time, you never thought you were capable of doing. You track your results so you see how you are improving and where you need to improve. You feel strong, confident and successful from completing the workouts. And you get to belong to a community of people that are always cheering you on and encouraging you to be the best you can be. In fact some of my closest friends are my WOD buddies:)

CrossFit 033 is an amazing place to work out. Great coaches who know their stuff and pay attention to you, and a comprehensive workout regimen. That’s the short version.

The long version is CrossFit 033 is a place where you can feel at home whether you are an experienced athlete or a complete couch potato who has decided to get off the couch. The amazing thing about this place is that no matter who you are, no matter what kind of shape you are in, you can walk in to the gym in the morning and walk out an hour later transformed and having accomplished something that you weren’t sure you could do the day before. In working out at 033, you will be challenged every day that you go to the gym - and you will also walk out of the gym every day having been successful at your workout, no matter what your level of fitness.

The concept of “scaling” a workout was one that was hard for me to understand before I joined CrossFit 033 – but it’s a concept that makes it possible for each person to succeed and push themselves just the right amount so they can progress. The coaches at CrossFit 033 pay close attention to your abilities and experience and do a great job at making sure each workout is tailored to your capabilities. I’ve watched world class athletes and people who are very out of shape work out side by side doing variations of the same workout and each come away from the workout feeling like they just won.

The other part of working out at this place that is hard to explain is the sense of community. It isn’t like a standard gym where you just walk in and go do your own thing. It’s more like “classes” where everyone is doing the same workout for the day. Because everyone is going through the same thing at the same time, everyone can empathize and encourage each other. Those who complete a workout quickly will often cheer on those who haven’t finished. And pretty soon the people who were being cheered on – become the cheerers. It’s amazing to watch people’s progress.

Finally, on a practical note, CrossFit 033 is easily accessible. It’s just a couple of minutes off of exit 8 on Route 2. There are 6 or 7 class times each day during the week (mornings and afternoon/evenings) and also mornings on weekends. There is plenty of parking, and showers for those who need them.

Short version again – give it a try.

Having maintained a membership at a few traditional gyms over the years I knew that I could push my fitness further. The coaching at CrossFit 033 makes transitioning to a different style of workout less intimidating and completely exciting. The good folks at 033 had me lifting weights and practicing movements that I never thought possible. It's an empowering experience, one that you want to share with all your fellow members.

In a little over a month I've met new friends and seriously look forward to each workout. Great community, great coaches, clean, well-organized training, lots of laughs and plenty of hard work. I'm amazed by the changes in not only strength and conditioning but also in my energy and happiness. Great all around!
