Clean environment, cool staff. The Mens Locker Room is clean but sometimes their weird activity in that steamroom. I counted 7 Broken Machines thats wayyyy too much considering how long they’ve been broken. And the hours there are not so good. If you live close to the YMCA its okay but its like you have to have a separate Gym Membership because the hours aren’t suitable for Parents & People getting of from work at 6 or 7pm. Nowadays the average person has to work 50 plus hours a week to make ends meet. Thats why other gym memberships are necessary as a secondary gym to compliment the YMCA hours.

It kicks butt.Always clean and all sections cleaning supplies available.Rod’s terrific and has been for way over a decade.Adding new equipment and always taking suggestions.With all that equipment machines are going to break down it’s only realistic.They need to wait for parts then they attend to the the fixing quickly.Ive been a member for dice 1998 and still even with covid their all around professionalism and consistency.

Nice Gym but the Hours are Horrible… it closes at 7pm soon to be 8pm still not suitable for people getting out of work at 6pm or 7pm people that want to get a 90 minute workout out in wouldn’t be able to finish their Workouts. Machines are Horrible. The STAIRMASTERS all sound like they’re falling apart. And STAIRMASTERS are a highlight of most GYMS. And theres like 5 cardio machines with a sign on them saying they’re broken. For the HIGH PRICE you get LOW QUALITY!!! Maybe things will change though for the better…. They have a new Wellness Director and they’re already making progress so We’ll see👀👀I think they should push for closing hours to be 9pm… that would be awesome for Near by residents and downtown professionals.

I hope this message finds you well.

I’m writing to express a concern about a recent experience at the Downtown Hartford YMCA that I believe requires attention. As a longtime member, I’ve always appreciated the YMCA’s mission and its role in promoting community and wellness. However, I’ve noticed a growing issue regarding hygiene and facility conditions that has made the environment increasingly uncomfortable.

To be direct, there have been several instances where the air quality in certain areas—especially near the fitness area and stairwell walking into the workout area—has been overwhelmingly unpleasant. The lack of ventilation combined with poor hygiene from some guests creates a situation that is difficult to ignore. My eyes were burning as I walked down the stairs, which is not something anyone should have to experience in a wellness facility.

While I understand and respect cultural differences, maintaining a clean, fresh, and welcoming environment is a standard that should apply to all members. If individual hygiene habits can’t be directly addressed, then I would strongly encourage the YMCA to consider installing better ventilation systems, using air purifiers, or providing air fresheners in key areas to help alleviate the discomfort.

This is not meant to criticize, but rather to bring forward a concern that many members may be experiencing silently. I kindly ask that leadership give this matter the consideration it deserves.

Thank you for your time and attention. I’m hopeful this feedback will be taken seriously, and I’d appreciate any updates on how the YMCA plans to address the issue.

I signed up for a membership and bought 4 private swim lessons for $200. They kept telling me I'll get a call to schedule my lessons and never did. I called them every few days for weeks and was told someone will get back to me shortly. Eventually I realized I will never get my swim lessons and asked for a refund. They refunded me the lessons eventually but kept charging me membership fees despite the fact that I had only signed up for the swim lessons. Essentially I ended up $100 down for services I was promised but wasn't provided.

I called today to see if I could get a trial or complimentary day pass. Since I’m new to the area and would like to get a workout in before committing to a membership. Standard fitness industry procedure. I was told no and the fee was 15 dollars. Terrible business practice and I don’t see how that follows the ymca business model of community first. Sounds like profitability is the first priority. Highly disappointed and will be taking my business elsewhere.

I love this gym I feel like this is the best gym in the Hartford area. I work downtown so I’ve been going on and off since it was on top of the XL Center but since Covid changed gym hours haven’t even been able to go I remember when they closed at 9 which was great. I hope someone realizes that we need the hours changed back. This is my only complaint unfortunately.

The gym and facilities are great, but I put 2 stars because Rod, guy who works front desk. Is incredibly inappropriate. He hangs in the locker rooms naked on his shift, fooling around with other men, and makes advances towards me and other men. I turn him down many times, I don't judge, but it's highly unprofessional and makes me afraid to be seen by him. And then he says my name all the time and it makes me uncomfortable, we never actually met and I'm aware he sees my info when I check in, but it feels dangerous. He knows where I live and it's scary. Always avoiding him by going late these days, but when I do see him, it's incredibly uncomfortable and I get panic attacks. Someone needs to have a talk with him.

Been coming here for a few years to take my children to swimming classes. The instructors and lifeguards are wonderful! Not sure if they are getting the recognition they deserved. Some parents give them a hard time for being low in staff but things happen...which is why I will continue to bring my children to the classes. Its worth it

Great for dryland activities but the pool is most of the time uncomfortably warm and some weeks it is good then goes back to the way it was. 95% of the time the pool was unacceptable and was not fit for the whole community which the YMCA strives to be a place for all but clearly not for all in the pool. Ongoing battle for the year(s). You overheat in the pool. Incredibly frustrating and you leave more stressed. Never had this issue with other YMCAs I been to. This is not a suitable place for people looking for a strong pool workout. My apologies for this review but people need to be able to evaluate their options when choosing a pool.

I travel a lot as a consultant and have been to YMCA’s all over the country. This has to be one of the best I’ve seen! It is very modern,very clean and has just about everything you need: pool, great cardio and weight area plus boxing area, open space for sprints, agilities, etc all very modern and nice. Staff is very helpful. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is parking is a bit difficult but otherwise this place is great!

Downtown YMCA is a gem. The open floor plan has multiple sections of excessive equipment. You will be greeted at the front entrance by a friendly staff that will offer you a work out towel as well as shower towel. This is a service that continues from the original YMCA that was nestled next to Bushel Park. Nice to see quality and class at a gym. Spin classes are great but times are minimal. Workout machines are modern and the free weight area is just right. You can park in the garage directly behind the YMCA and get your parking ticket stamped for a discounted rate for two hours time. Well worth the trip.

This is the on of best “ForProfit” gyms I have been too in a while. The YMCA has never really been a good gym compared to others I have been. But I was extremely impressed with the cleaning schedule and new equipment. Granted the HQ is right above the gym I would expect this to be there flagship gym. Highly suggest anyone to check it
