Welcome to Hook’d Athletic Co., Newtown’s home for CrossFit, strength training, and community-driven fitness.

Conveniently located right off Exit 11 on I-84, we offer expert led group classes, personal training, private team sessions, and specialized support like nutrition coaching and Sunday yoga.

Our certified coaches are here to meet you where you are, whether you’re brand new to fitness or looking to level up your training. We believe that fitness should be accessible, supportive, and fun for everyone.

Look, I tour the country for a living. I’ve stopped into more boxes than I can count, and when I tell you Hook’d felt like a home away from home, that’s barely scratching the surface. The coaching is top tier. The community is warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in you. Special shoutout to Ryan Berger for being a baller owner and coach.

It might sound dramatic, but as someone who lives on the road and is always searching for a home base, this box actually made me consider moving to the Newtown area. If you’re looking for a place to belong, to feel supported, and to get into the best shape of your life… look no further. You found it.

I started personal training with Coach Ryan when I was in 7th grade up until I left for college last year. When I first started working with him I had big dreams to eventually play lacrosse in college and was able to share my goals, strengths, and weaknesses with him. He made sure with each session I was building confidence and pushing myself in ways I have yet before. Coach Ryan shortly became one of my biggest role models as we worked together each week. His sessions were a balance of strength training, mobility work, conditioning, stick work, and explosive work. There was never a time where I felt like I couldn't do something because Coach Ryan was always there cheering me on. Some days just as everyone else we can feel weak and sore, although when I came to work with him he made me feel like I was the strongest I had ever been regardless of how I felt that day. I made some of the best memories at Crossfit Hook'd as Coach Ryan made sure we were always having fun while pushing ourselves to the best of our abilities. I have grown immensely as a person ever since training with him and I don't think I could have ever played lacrosse in college especially at the division 1 level if it weren't for him. I was noticeably getting better as each week went by and working on my weaknesses which soon became my strengths. The whole staff at Crossfit Hook'd is amazing and probably the most friendliest group of coaches I have met. The energy in this gym is outstanding and I recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get better at their sport, join a CrossFit community, and even reach their nutritional goals!!

I started doing personal training with the owner, Ryan, about 2 months ago. I’ve had to do a lot of “unlearning” when it comes to fitness and weight training and finally got to a good head space with my own idea of how to stay healthy and strong.

I decided I wanted to try to safely start training with heavier weights again and didn’t know where to begin. Hook’d was close to my house and I was impressed with the website and how they actually required you to do 6 private sessions to ensure your form was correct and safe before joining group classes. There was also (amazingly) a strong focus on mobility in their verbiage vs “weight loss”. So I took the leap and did the free consultation with Ryan!

Thankfully, I did! Ryan was honest with me from the onset that group classes probably were not a good fit for me. He was genuine and was looking out for me, not trying to pitch me on private training at all. I asked about private sessions and 8 weeks later I’m so thankful I found Ryan and Hook’d!! I feel stronger and I feel safe and supported working with Ryan each week. He clearly is invested in understanding the best approach to exercise for my body and I noticed a difference in only a few weeks both in and out of session in my daily life.

Besides that, the rest of the coaches and all the people I have met in passing who attend Hook’d are kind, funny, human, and the opposite of judgmental. It’s unlike any other gym environment I’ve ever been in and I would highly recommend Hook’d for both their classes and private training. I sincerely look forward to my time there each week and trust in Ryan to help me accomplish my goals in an intentional and knowledgeable way that most of the fitness industry lacks.

Couldn’t recommend a better gym environment than Hook’d. Are you tired of feeling awkward at the gym? Not knowing what you’re doing? Or not motivated? This team will accept, teach, and push you to be stronger everyday. Even the days I’m not “feeling up to it”, I walk out of the gym, happy I went. Not just because of the intense workouts, but because the coaches brightened my day or someone else’s, with their great attitudes. After two years, I learned how to lift (and properly), received great working out advice (and in life), and feel confident with my body and how strong I have gotten. Thank you, Hook’d family.

For a long time I was reluctant to try weight training. Finally, at the advice of my physical therapist, I have added it to my weekly routine. The coaches at hook'd are excellent. Chris tailors all my workouts to build my running endurance and speed while not aggravating, and even helping to improve, my running injuries. They are patient, non-judgmental, and incredibly encouraging, validating and inspiring that I can do hard things! Ryan, both owner and coach, is also a builder of community. Gyms were never places I felt at home until I found hook'd.

I started going to Hook’d 6 months ago and the first month they took the time to provide me one on one coaching to get an understanding of my physical capabilities and me as an individual. As I started to get into the group classes although I felt awkward and self conscious at first I soon realized that we are all the for the same purpose and the coaches and members are inclusive and supportive. I have come to look forward to the work outs and the challenges I get if I am not pushing myself hard enough, we all have those days of not giving 100%.

I joined Hook'd 6 months ago. I'm 53 and was pretty inactive for years. I went to Hook'd because I needed to do something. I had no experience of any kind of crossfit before this. Now I am totally hook'd on this place. Ryan is a fun, knowledgeable trainer. They really work to get you better and are always very encouraging. The classes are like family and there's a variety of levels within the classes and everyone encourages each other.im so happy I found this gym! Highly recommend this gym.

I’ve been a member of Hook’d for years now, and I would never go anywhere else! The coaches always show up everyday and push you to be a better version in the gym and outside of the gym. They care about your workout & encourage you to work harder and do things you didn’t feel you were capable of. Plus, the programing is so customizable and can always be adjusted to make the workout better for you! Outside of workouts, being part of Hook’d is like being in a huge family. The community is just awesome.

Here's the thing about finding the right gym. You want to not only get a great workout in but to feel welcomed, paid attention to, educated and safe. Well Ryan and his team check all these boxes! The coaches are very knowledgeable, provide the right dose of "let's go" mentality and are cool people!

The members are also very welcoming no matter your skill level. I only go 1x with my wife and we feel "at home" each time.

Another thing to mention is Ryan's (owner) support of local businesses is amazing. He'll always mention a member's business or a restaurant he went to in town. Love that about him.

CrossFit Hook’d’s ownership, coaching staff and community make it as fun and easy as it gets to get your workouts in. It feels like there are members at every level that make it a welcoming environment to do what you can while also giving you that extra push to achieve your goals.

The gym is always clean and well organized making it a fresh space to come to outside of your home these days. They’re taking the right protocols for the current environment and the members are respectful of that.

I joined CrossFit Hook’d a few weeks before the Covid shutdown. I felt lost in my fitness journey. I was tired of wasting my time and not getting any results. I spent months wanting to join, but honestly I was too intimidated (foolish on my part). The moment I stepped into CrossFit Hook’d, I felt like I was part of a family. Everyone was so inviting and welcoming. The coaches are amazing. They take their time to focus on proper form and technique, and have this incredible ability to remember everyone’s individual needs.

Even during the shutdown, the coaches went above and beyond to host multiple zoom classes throughout the day, 7 days a week. I am so impressed with how much strength I have gained over the last few months of being back in the gym!! Not only have I become physically stronger, but I have also become a more confident person.

Since gyms were allowed to reopen this summer, Hook’d has provided an extremely safe and clean environment for us. Every member cleans up after themself, properly cleaning all the equipment. The coaches makes sure the gym is spotless for the next class.

Hook’d is more than a place to workout and get strong. It is a family, and I’m so thankful to be a part of it! 💚🖤

This is an awesome gym in so many ways. The gym is clean and organized, conveniently located (which makes it that much easier for me to get there!) and the workouts are killer! I joined CrossFit Hook'd in Aug '19. I've been working out for years but found myself in a rut. CrossFit Hook'd has put spunk back into my fitness routine. I've learned how to climb a rope and do a handstand pushup. It's been years since I've learned a new fitness skills. GOALS! It's an hour in/out of the gym...the best hour of the day. Amazing coaching with attention to detail on form and consistency. There is a push to be better and stronger with tremendous support and motivation from the family of athletes but in a very safe and structured manner so to avoid/reduce the risk of injury. I have never seen results like I have in the last 7 months and I am not new to gyms and working out but crossfit and specifically CrossFit Hook’d has brought me to a new level of fitness and allows me to push my mental limits to a new high. I have been to many CrossFit gyms all across the US and Canada and have alot to say about what makes a gym great. While I'll spare you ALL of the details, I will say that this gym is one of the best by far by many measurements. This gym is VERY clean, the coaching is superior to most every other box I've been to, the people are friendly, and it is a great high energy atmosphere. The programming as well as the warm up and cools downs are thoughtfully planned and high quality. Management and staff are highly invested in thier atheletes. What else could you ask for! Too notch and highly recommended.

Having trained crossfit for 6 years, Hook’d is an incredible place to experience. The coaches are not only focused on proper technique with barbells (as most gyms are), but focused on all movements with or without a barbell. This includes stretching, and mobility.
