I've had the opportunity to train with In Shape's fitness director Aris for several years at different times in my fitness journey. Whether its learning how to lift weights, or regaining my mobility postpartum, Aris has been a staple in my life every step. He is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, and determined to see me accomplish all of my goals.The entire InShape crew are friendly and welcoming, and the facilities have everything you need at any fitness level. I was a member of inshape back in 2018 all the way till 2024. The price increased multiple times within that time without notice but I sucked it up. Sauna was great and the only thing I really miss and some of the personal trainers were cool. The gym itself was okay but never really loved it.

Went to try their “free three day trial” and they told me unless I’m going to commit to the year membership I can’t visit the gym for the three days 😭😭 like isn’t the point of the trial to see if I like it enough to join?! Visited this gym about 3 weeks ago for a tour. You need a note from your doctor to qualify. Wife and I stopped by on Monday to join with our doctor's notes and and senior supplement nsurance codes. My Medicare insurance company does not provide a printed code but I had the code on my phone app. Al would not accept code unless it was printed out from the insurance company. When I pleaded with him that it was on my phone app, his reply was "Do i have to show you what i need on paper again!" Called my health insurance when we got home. They called the gym to verify my plan while I was on the phone. Whomever they talked to said they get back to ME in a day or two. Nothing so far. If you don't what me as a customer, we don't need you

The gym is very clean and well run. However, some of the patrons are inconsiderate of others. They stand in the doorway to the 30 minute workout blocking the dispenser with wipe off clothes and trash pail while waiting for the group classes to start. Some waiting will sit on the 30 minute workout machines and talk loudly on their phones, or just sit there and wait for the class to open up. They are rudely preventing others from using the machines. Some men will stand in the 30 minute workout area and stare, gawk, ogle, the women that are engaging in the group classes. Gross pervs in my opinion. I've been on the exercise bikes, treadmills, etc, and witnessed patrons talking loudly on their phones. Ugh. Such privilege and disrespectful to the rest of us

Hours get shorter with closing times earlier and earlier every day. Sunday closes 4 pm resulting in gym crowding. I work night shift and get cut off every workout as staff race out the door shut off everything possible as early as possible. These owners still on Covid 19 hours.

I have been a member of in-shape gym for more than 10 years now. I look forward to going there to exercise. The staff and trainers are always friendly and knowledgeable. The gym is clean. I especially enjoy the protein shake area. I also like the fact that I can buy my vitamins from them. I enjoy the dotfit vitamins are true ingredients, and that the trainers and staff can answer any questions I may have about the products. My son enjoys coming with me as a guest. I have been going to this gym since they first opened in North Haven and now go to their location in Branford. From the top down, Mark the owner, Rob the manager, Al in membership services, Aris in personal training and the staff at the front desk- everyone is super friendly, knowledgeable, and they always greet me with a smile. The weight room and fitness rooms are always kept in great shape. Love my gym and the staff that makes it a great place to work out.

Being a member of Inshape fitness of Branford for a few years now, I have never been disappointed by the staff or facilities at this gym. The trainers and staff here are great. About a year ago, I purchased a personal training package for a shoulder issue I was dealing with. I trained with Aris and he was a fantastic coach. He tailored a workout plan to my liking and worked with me and my schedule for our training sessions together. I still use the programs he gave me to this day to keep my shoulders healthy. I would highly recommend him, he was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Overall, it is a great place to train and I will continue to go here and recommend this gym to my friends and family. I love this gym! The staff are so friendly, the place is always spotless and there is never ending turf for your stretching and ab work. They have a great juice bar that is also open to the public. The massage chairs are brand new as of this month and are out of this world never have experienced anything like them. They also have a sauna in both locker rooms and tanning beds that are included in the membership! Love InShape!

Signed up for a membership for me and my son which was barely used throughout the year but I signed up for the 1 year commitment and waited till it ended to cancel. When you cancel your membership, which there is no easy way to do so you have to go in… it starts another 30 day clock because there is a 30 day cancellation policy which means you get charged for the following month after you cancel. Again, while shady I said fine and the following months payment came out. 2 weeks later 2 more payments came out for the annual maintenance fee despite me canceling my membership the month prior. I called them and they wouldn’t even offer a refund and basically told me to kick rocks. So I paid them the 42 dollar membership fee on top of a 52 dollar maintenance fee for two accounts after my membership was cancelled. Absolute scam and shameful.

I don't understand some of the negative reviews that people leave about this gym. I have been going to this gym for about 10 months now and have had nothing but positive experiences! Overall this was a great gym! Staff was wonderful. There is a variety of equipment and classes in the gym for a reasonable price. I would have given this place 5 stars if it wasn’t for the bathroom/locker room area. I never seen any staff clean the bathroom. Only trash was taken out each night, and there was spots on the toilet/shower areas that were there for longer than 3 months which is disturbing to think they may not be getting properly cleaned. I was mainly there in early mornings and late evenings, so it is possible that it was cleaned during the day. It just didn’t seem like they were being cleaned either at all or just not properly. I’m not 100% sure if they were or not, I will give them 4 stars for an overall good experience.

I just moved to the area and was looking for a gym and step by In shape fitness and had the worst experience. I was interested in training with a personal trainer and the man who was supposed to show me the gym just made me sit in his office, didn’t explained anything and made me feel bad. First, if I’m looking for a personal trainer that means I have the money to pay for it and I had the feeling he thought I didn’t. When I got up to go away he asked: it’s that to much for you? And I just said no, I didn’t felt good here. The gym is good and the girl in the front desk was really kind but this man in particular was really rude and made me feel the worst person. Giving one star just because I can’t give 0. Don’t ever go to this place!

Such potential! Use the yearly maintenance fees to update strength training equipment. The bench’s are not sturdy and ripped. Add more racks and more barbell options, more plates and scrap machines that are collecting dust. Streamline! Roof the outdoor turf so it’s accessible despite the weather. My wife basically coerced me into joining. I'm not a Gym guy. After life had it's way with me, I signed on with Carlos, a Personal Trainer. I started by saying I wanted to change my physique. He started with what I wanted, but identified my core issues. Pain in my shoulder, knees and lower back. He changed the regiment to focus on my problem areas. The second month has me feeling so much better. Not perfect, but I am not longer having issues with walking down the stairs or pouring a cup of coffee. I am hopeful that my third month will get us back on track.

EDIT, I haven't seen this guy since: My wife used to go here. The tour guide was shocked we said no and left. He wanted a full month of payment for half month left. No discount. He pushed for extra $45 sign up fee as well, when it wasn't required (huge sign out front says no sign-up fee). My wife used to pay $20, now it's it's $40. No discount for returning member either?

The gym itself is nice, they had all the equipment I like in a gym and plenty of turf which I like b/c I do a lot of PT but the atmosphere of the place kinda killed it for me, felt like I was in highschool again rather than in an actual gym. People stare at you weird if you are working out hard. Felt like I was the only one actually working out, just not my kind of crowd. Kind of a yuppy gym/hang out spot and overcrowded, not really for the serious minded who just wanna work out, and that's ok if that's what your into, it's just not for me. Also $40 bucks a month and you can't bring a guest when every other gym is charging the same or less and you can bring guest, and the sanitary wipes were almost always empty. Also plates and kettle bells where always all over the place, I can understand if people don't put stuff back but I would sometimes tidy up the areas b/c employees would rarely do it. If you go here I recommend going early in the morning rather than later or just go to PowerHouse gym which is more for the serious minded.

Extremely disappointed with this place. I’ve been sick on and off and haven’t been able to go use the gym and I’m moving as well. I go to cancel my membership and I was told since I’ve singed a contract I have to pay for the whole year. Unless I prove to them it’s 25 miles away that’s the only way I can cancel it without any fees. So until I give them proof I’m 25 miles away I have to continue to pay for something I can’t use. DO NOT GET MEMBERSHIP HERE! Last November my boyfriend and I went in to tryout the two week free trial. They talked us into signing up and paying a signup fee and first month membership fee. Within the two week trial they released a promo waiving the signup fee and first month membership cost. It was dishonest not to disclose that the promo was starting within our trial period. We complained to the employee who signed us up and they wouldn't honor the promo because we had signed the contract. They also aren't offering a contact-less way to cancel your membership during COVID. You either have to go into the gym to cancel or stand in line at the post office to send a certified letter. Very dishonest business practices.

The most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had at a gym. I have NEVER written a yelp review, but truly felt it was necessary as I do not want this to happen with anyone else.
For starters, I am a competitive body-builder. I got my Personal Training Certification to help build my knowledge of body mechanics. I have never charged or have trained clients in person. My business focus is on mental strength and work with women on mentality techniques and healthier living.
I belong to 6 gyms and have many friends whom I work out with. Workouts are more fun with friends!
I joined In Shape a short month ago. Within the first week, the manager, Brain Woodford stopped me to say hi and tell me that he has followed me on Facebook for a while now and asked if I was interested in training as he saw I had my training certification. My response was that I kinda do my own thing and I’d get back to him. I never touched base with him after that as gym training isn’t my focus or interest.

Today, I was working out with a friend who’s back in town. She had worked out at In Shape for years prior to now and was considering renewing her membership post COVID (was hesitant to get back into the gym due to the pandemic). We were simply super setting exercises and talking about all the things anyone who’s heavy into working out talks about- supplements, food, dietary stuff etc. The manager, Brian Woodford, was near us training another client and obviously overheard us. I wasn’t worried about him hearing because I simply have freedom of speech and was simply working out with a friend/ wasn’t doing anything wrong.
He stormed off, and went to grab a supervisor ( I don’t have his name possibly the owner or president of In Shape) and before you know it I was being taken away from my exercise by the supervisor stating “I need to talk to you.” He lead me to an office where another man, Al Sapiente was sitting. I started to feel uncomfortable and asked what this was about before stepping into the office. He again said we just want to have a chat with you. I walked into the office, and he closed the door. I outloud said what is this about. The supervisor stood looking down at me and started to accuse me of training clients and taking business away from them. I repeatedly stated that I was working out with a friend. He then made the statement that I’m a trainer. I said yes, I have a training cert but do not train people, I’m a life coach but that is not a client. I then stated I felt uncomfortable. He then asked me again if I was training people. I said no. I then stated again that I felt uncomfortable and that the conversation was entirely inappropriate. I also asked how he even knew I was a trainer. When he couldn’t answer I responded by saying that his manager, Brian Woodford, has followed me on facebook for a while now, asked me to train clients there and I declined. Further that this accusation was a personal attack because of the knowledge of my certification. He then questioned me further. The conversation lasted far too long. I repeatedly stated I felt uncomfortable and that I wasn’t training a client but simply working out with a friend. I felt intimated and like I could not leave the office.
He must have finally realized what was happening was harassment when I stated “I am no longer going to defend myself, I feel uncomfortable, this is a personal attack and I want to cancel my membership at no fee.” He then opened the door and left to talk with Brian Woodford.
Conveniently, manager Brian Woodford ‘unfriended me’ on Facebook as soon as I left the facility.
In Shape displayed harassment, discrimination, and intimidation in communications with me and I do NOT recommend joining this gym.

I’m not a fan of the employees/staff. All the instructors are great, but the people that handle memberships are extremely rude and pushy. It's easily the best gym in the area, but gets too busy during peak hours and weekends, and the arrange some equipment in silly ways. (I.e. a squat rack that faces directly towards treadmills on the first floor, when it should be around the corner at the end of their turf area./closing daycare in exchange for a private training area that I hardly ever see being used.)

I wasn’t having the best day today. I forced myself to the gym to try and clear my head. After my workout, I sat at the front counter to sulk in my sorrow. It was then that I was approached by the front desk girls, Elizabeth and Nicole. These two vibrant, caring, beautiful young ladies offered to make me a protein shake. They suggested it may make my day a tad bit brighter. Elizabeth concocted the beverage while Nicole kept me company during the process. Elizabeth handed me the shake, and looked on with anticipation as I took my first sip. I’ll tell ya, it was the best dang shake I ever done had. We shared many laughs, and when it came time to pay they insisted the shake was on the house- my God, the generosity is immeasurable. Thank you InShape for employing such hard working, caring, selfless, and compassionate people. I urge everyone to join this fine establishment. I love you.

Five stars!! Nicole and Libby are so nice at the front desk I immediately felt welcomed when I walked through the front doors, very clean facility! This is the cleanest gym on the shoreline by far! They have all the free weights and machines I need and also have a huge facility for classes and group training! Love this gym

As a new member and over 50 ,I was unsure about joining a gym but needed to badly. My children are members and I decided to go check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to see all body types and ages working out there. Plenty of machines and the smoothie bar has me doing a little extra time on the treadmill. The staff has been great.
They are always there to greet you with a smile and make sure all your needs are being met. As a part of your membership you get a free consultation with one of the personal trainers which I am looking forward to.
Don't put it off any longer, or you'll be regretting that you did. I know I am.
