Joint Effort is a small, comfortable, and safe place for adults over the age of 50 to exercise. Each client is instructed on how to perform an exercise program that is designed for their individual goals and capabilities. Following the initial instruction, members are supervised every session by at least one, but more often than not, two highly educated and experienced exercise professionals, who specialize in working with adults over 50, and are truly passionate about helping aging adults live happier, healthier, and more active lives. The fact that the program is strictly for those over the age of 50 makes the atmosphere pleasant, comfortable, and fun to be in! Email [email protected] for more detailed information. π

It's easier to exercise at Joint Effort with people my age (50 years or older) than at a typical gym and it is actually enjoyable. The exercise plans create (and periodically revised) specifically for my needs have resulted in my regaining my balance, strength and flexibility. When Joint Effort in East Lyme was getting ready to open last year, I contacted George. He told me he could guarantee I would be feeling better in 2 to 3 weeks if I followed the program he would develop for me. He was right. In fact, he was so much so right, that I was then able to believe I actually could feel better and continued on. Now, months later, I am significantly stronger and balanced both physically and mentally.

I am an avid golfer and was having issues lower back pain which extended down the back of my legs. I went to see a neurosurgeon at Yale New Haven Health this past July who by physical exam and imaging performed previously for another health issue, diagnosed that I was experiencing mild facetogenic pain. He stated that since my pain is currently considered mild, no interventions or further imaging was needed. Physical therapy was not needed and he encouraged me to participate in yoga or other stretching exercises.
Shortly thereafter, I contacted Joint Effort Guided Exercise in Niantic after recommendations from family members and friends. I made an appointment for an evaluation with their exercise physiologist (EP) who held her Master's degree in Kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island. I told her of my diagnosis and my goals to improve the health of my back as well as increase my flexibility. She developed a personalized stretching and core strengthening exercise plan for me to address my back issue. I went to their gym three times a week where I went through my exercise plan under the guidance of their two EPs. They would ensure that i was performing each of the prescribed exercises with the proper form and would adjust weights and reps for each exercise as I progressed. My back pain subsided after 6 weeks or so and was able to play multiple rounds of golf each week, as well as walk/jog without pain. I am currently spending the winter away from Connecticut, but have been continuing my exercise plan at my home and at a local Planet Fitness. I play golf twice a week and walk/jog three times a week and continue to be free of back pain. As an added bonus, my core strength and flexibility has improved, improving my golf game.
If youβre an elder adult (50 years plus) and have physical issues (strength, flexibility, balance, etc.) I highly recommend you consider dropping by for a consultation.

Joint Effort is the greatest place to exercise for people over a certain age. To begin you have an appointment with an exercise physiologist, they take your medical/physical history and set up an exercise program just for you. You have a scheduled time and the exercise physiologists are there to make sure you are doing your exercises correctly and to answer any questions. The classes are small. The best exercise studio/gym I have ever been to.

If you are looking for a fitness facility where there is excellent oversight and guidance throughout your training then this is the place to go. The staff are well trained exercise physiologists who evaluate each client individually and develop a program to fit their needs, safety, goals and ability. This program is continually adjusted to meet the fitness and personal needs of each client. If you have the desire to improve your overall health, mental and physical please give Joint Effort a try. I detest gyms but I LOVE Joint Effort. The staff really know their stuff and the clients are friendly and interesting. The setup (in a circle) of the cardio machines allows conversation that makes the time fly by. I enjoy my workouts and have made great strides so this be venue is effective as well as fun.

After joining many gym programs over the years, I was invited by a friend to check out Joint Effort in Niantic because of the major improvements the program has changed her mobility. So I made an appointment and had a surprisingly through evaluation to address my needs to start a tailored exercise program with regular evaluations to go on to more difficult exercises. You are always watched and prompted by the staff if you are not doing something right and they are there to change things if they see things are too easy for you. It's a great group of 50 and over people at the Niantic center with no judgement or intimidation like other gyms. Also, appointments are made so there is no overcrowding No mirrors or bodybuilders,only encouragement. I have seen great improvement with myself and I look forward to working out 3 times a week. So glad I took the time to see what Joint Effort was about!

Joint Effort is extraordinary! The typical definition of βgymβ in no way describes these exercise facilities for over 50βs. Staffed by professional physiologists, they provide individualized programs suited to your specific needs, but they donβt stop there. Every session is monitored by one of the staff to ensure exercises are performed properly and adjusted accordingly as you advance. Every couple of months your program is completely reevaluated and new exercises recommended. You are not allowed to rest on your laurels here! I have a tricky back issue that affects me on a daily basis and what I have accomplished overseen by physiologist Katrina is nothing short of a miracle! And I would be remiss if I did not mention the shared comraderie, encouragement and fun experienced by all!

I love the Joint Effort gym in Branford and I go there 3 times a week for about an hour of aerobic, strength and balance. My initial evaluation was very thorough and staff constantly monitors my progress. The staff is friendly, well-trained and mindful of individual needs. They have a great community spirit and many of us walked as a group in the Branford Day Run/Walk.

I joined Joint Effort back in March of 2014. it is the first gym that I have enjoyed going to. I still look forward to going to it as much now, as I did almost 10 years ago. The people are friendly and the instructors are thorough in helping you to get to your goals. And most important for me is theyβre there to help and correct you if youβre not doing it the right way which is something I never encountered with the larger gyms. I have always told friends and others how much I enjoy going there.

This guided exercise program has greatly improved my physical and social life! The improvement in my balance has been miraculous, I am able to bring wood logs in for the fireplace with greater ease, all over general improvement in posture and I really look forward to being with people in the same age bracket all working to improve their health. One of the best decisions I have made, as I become older is to make sure to remain active. Saying goes if you donβt use it you will lose it. I firmly believe this. Joint Effort came into my life at a very opportune time. I have been very stagnant for a couple of years due to the Covid Epidemic. As the result, my muscles became weak, and my body in general was not able to do anywhere near what it was capable of doing prior to the Covid outbreak. Going back to Joint Effort which is a very professional supervised program for people over 55 has been by saving grace. the employees are extremely knowledgeable and extremely helpful. You are totally supervised and if at any point you are not doing the exercise correctly you will be corrected and shown the proper way to do it. This is why injuries could be avoided because you are supervised so regularly. I highly recommend Joint Effort. Itβs very comforting to be in a group of your peers who are basically experiencing what happens to your body as you age. You are in the comfort of your own group of friends who support each other and share stories. Joint Effort is beyond a physical effort. It is an emotional and mental Exercise. Effort allows you to keep your mind and body sharp.

I LOVE Joint Effort! I can't stop talking about it to all my friends and relatives. I adore the atmosphere there, the way the exercise physiologists make it fun and how they watch out to make sure we're not working out in a way that's going to cause damage to ourselves (I was always hurting myself when I worked out at other gyms!). I love how they seem happy to be there, how available they are to answer questions or to have conversations. I love the clientele--such friendly people all there to get strong and stay fit. And mostly I love how I see my level of fitness improving, and how much easier the exercises get as I do them more often. The place is well-lit and clean, the music is fun, and there's just a low hum of people laughing and talking and making friends.

I could not balance on one foot at all. Yesterday was the 1st time since stroke in 2003. Not great at it yet, but it's a working progress.
