As a competitive horse trainer running a busy farm, my body is constantly being put to the test. I came to LivFit originally with severe plantar fasciitis. Other professionals had told me I should avoid stairs and would need orthotics for the rest of my life. It was discouraging—until I met Tim.Tim, as a muscle system specialist, took the time to evaluate my muscular system thoroughly and get to the root cause of my foot pain, in a scientific manner, I had never witnessed. Thanks to his expertise, I’m now pain-free and moving without restriction. No orthotics, no limitations—just freedom.
Since then, I’ve continued working with Tim to address other muscle and joint problems that were holding me back. Shoulder pain was keeping me out of the pool, knee discomfort was making biking difficult, and I was plagued by intermittent back pain. Today, I’m pain-free in all those areas and Tim continues to provide me with clear, effective, and dynamic exercise strategies that allow me to be active without pain. I recently had cartilage removed from both sides of my right knee and was struggling with my rehab. I came to Tim and I found him exceptionally knowledgeable and thorough. He did a detailed assessment of essentially my entitle musculoskeletal system And has put me on an individualized plan to strengthen my right lower extremity to support my knee. I came to Tim at LivFit by way of Muscle Systems Specialist, Jay Weitzner, co-founder of Symmetry Exercise Clinic in Naples, FL. A friend who was helped by Jay recommended that I see him for my shoulder pain. She said he would tell me upfront if he could help me and not waste my time. I showed Jay the MRI of my shoulder and he acknowledged that my shoulder was in bad shape and that I did indeed need rotator cuff surgery, but that he could help prepare me for surgery. In my first session, Jay was able to increase by range of motion within 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I was leaving to go back to CT, but through the grace of God, Jay recommended Muscle Systems Specialist, Tim Livingston, in Trumbull, CT. I continued my therapy with Tim, to strengthen my shoulder to prepare for my surgery. After my surgery, I continued to see both Tim and Jay, depending on whether I was in CT or Naples, FL. They both taught me exercises and used special techniques on my arm and shoulder, which are different from traditional physical therapy techniques. They both helped me to reduce my shoulder pain and increase my range of motion with every session. After my first session with Tim after my surgery, I had greater range of motion and reduced pain than after weeks of traditional PT! I felt like the lame man who could walk again. I am a big believer in Muscle System Care, which focuses on range of motion issues, muscle tightness, and joint pain by identifying areas where your muscles may not be contracting efficiently and developing personalized exercises to improve these conditions and increase function. I am grateful to both Tim and Jay for restoring function of my left shoulder and arm.

I have been going to Tim for a couple of weeks now, and I can honestly say I have never felt better. I had alot of weakness on the entire right side of my body, specifically in my hip, core, and shoulder. From working with Tim, my hips and core have become close to no problem! My shoulder has drastically improved, and not only do I see the improvement from our sessions but I feel it as well in the gym. I lift pretty heavy, and being able to take care of my joints and having my muscles work properly is huge so I don’t get injured. I am able to workout pain free in my hips and shoulder, along with being able to sustain more weight and feeling stronger than ever. Working with Tim has been the best decision I have ever made!

I, like many women, have been diagnosed with hip dysplasia, a condition I only discovered after the birth of my first child. Before pregnancy I was very active; I preferred high intensity forms of exercise that kept me coming back to the gym 4 times a week. During the second half of my pregnancy, I began experiencing severe hip pain, which worsened after delivery to the point where walking became extremely difficult. Orthopedic surgeons suggested restorative surgery now and stated that full hip replacement in my elder years would be an inevitability, but I am unwilling to accept that outcome. After just a few sessions with Tim, the pain in my hip began to subside to a degree I hadn't experienced in over a year. Several months later, the pain has completely resolved. Throughout our work together, my discomfort shifted away from my hip to different parts of my body, a pattern that would typically fall outside the expertise of traditional physical therapists. Tim, however, never appears to be stumped or bewildered by the change in my condition which makes me feel in very safe hands. He not only addressed these emerging issues as part of my overall body condition but also identified the root causes of my pain. He then prescribed exercises that have proven effective in providing long-term relief. You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from Tim's expertise and services.

I’ve been going to see Tim for a few months now and am so pleased with the progress and results I’ve been seeing. I’ve gone to a few different PTs for issues with my shoulder and hip flexors but all have been a bandaid. Tim really works on getting to the cause of the issues to help your body work the way it should. I’ve been able to run without hip flexor pain and am excited to see what other areas we can continue to improve! I’m a competitive athlete and so I want to be able to move optimally and also properly without a lot of compensations and that is a huge goal of Tim’s. I also appreciate that the areas we are working to improve will also help benefit my long term health and wellness to save areas of my body (for example my knees). I also appreciate how Tim walks me through what he is assessing in movement patterns and also the why behind the corrective exercises.

I’ve been working with Tim for the last year on a couple different areas of issue. He is extremely knowledgeable and has taught me so much about how to better care for my body. I don’t believe traditional PT would’ve helped me because it doesn’t identify the root of where the issue is coming from!! Tim has identified several muscle weaknesses I didn’t know I had! When I started with Tim I couldn’t lift my left arm above my head and now I can. I also have chronic hip / ankle issues that have plagued me for years and I’m finally seeing improvements. I have worked with Tim for more than a year due to a couple of persistent pain issues in my foot and arm (tennis elbow). He immediately and methodically isolates which muscles are compromised and "not firing correctly" and then targets a plan for healing, including exercises to do at home. My son plays freshman football for Trumbull high he was having problems with his knee and shoulder mostly from growing and some impact.
Tim checked him out found a few issues that he was having gave him some exercises to do and after a few visits He's improved 100%

I started working with Tim around the end of May because the muscles in my left leg never came back after a knee replacement surgery making it difficult to walk and causing constant swelling. Tim has helped me regain muscle in that leg and all along my left side. I recently went on a trip that required a lot of walking and the swelling was minimal around my knee due to my leg being so much stronger.

I’ve been working with Tim for last 7 months and can say it has been extremely impactful. When I came to Tim first I could barely lift my right leg to be level with my knee due to pain. Tim has been able to isolate the issues with where my muscles have not been properly working, and then providing exercise regimens to ensure we keep progress. Today I’m not prohibited from daily activities and continue to engage with Tim for routine improvements to engage my muscles.

I first saw Tim as a young dancer looking to rehab from a back injury. His professionalism and knowledge were incredibly refreshing! He never failed in making me feel comfortable as a young person receiving treatment for a physical issue and I benefitted greatly from the work we did together.
I have recently begun seeing him again as an adult after beginning my training as a pilates instructor. He is still incredibly knowledgeable and is so open to questions/concerns you may have. Tim has been helping me with my injuries following a TBI for years now and he consistently goes above and beyond not only in patient care but in genuine concern for me as a person. I've been suffering with chronic pain for many years. Certain areas such as my SI joint, neck pain, migraines, knee pain, unevenness. Tim has slowly helped me recover in these areas. Tim will never work you hard where you're in pain. He wants to know immediately if something hurts, then he'll try a new position where it's comfortable for you. I've had chronic lower back pain for over 20 years. After a particularly long episode of debilitating pain I was becoming increasingly depressed. I came across Tim's name and decided to contact him. I'm glad I did!
After a thorough analysis he explained how the muscle imbalances in my body were the root cause of my pain and created a plan to correct it.
I was a little nervous before our first session but he immediately put me at ease. He guided me through several exercises patiently explaining what he was doing the whole way and always careful not to cause me any pain. The stiffness I had been experiencing every day for the past few months was completely gone after that first session.
Every week we we work on improving my muscle strength and correcting my alignment. He also gives me a list of exercises to do at home. I have been seeing Tim since early February, and I ended up getting hit by a U-Haul in early March. We were already working on things from my past injuries, including my left knee ACL, which caused weakness in my left hamstring, as well as my right hip, and so as muscle, we also were aware of general weakness on my right side of my body. The car accident caused a lot of setbacks, but Tim has consistently been able to help me improve my range of motion and get better. We have been approaching things in a very different way than physical therapy had via insurance. I have a successful experience working with Tim at LivFit. I’ve received an individualized training program focused on overall health, strength and nutrition. With each visit, I receive a strength analysis to identify the weakness. Then Tim guides me through exercises in the gym to offset the imbalance. I’m always sent home with a specific exercise plan to work on, then it’s up to me. Safety is the priority and I’ve always felt that it’s a constant consideration.
The LivFit program offers a lot of insight on wellness, helping me to create a daily meal plan and track progress. We use simple charts to log meals, water and activity. I enjoy my time with Tim because he’s helped me resolve a lot of physical discomfort, lose weight and he’s a great motivator.

I have been a client of Tim's for over 6 years. Originally, I went to him due to lower back pain. My back had been bothering me for years, I tried PT and a Chiropractor, and the pain would be relieved for a while but always came back. Tim has a different approach; he listens and tests to find out what is causing the pain. He explained why I was in pain and what exercises I needed to do to strengthen the muscles that support the area. I have always worked out and as I get older more things bother my body. I go to Tim every two or three weeks to get realigned, he checks what's working right and what needs to be stronger. He gives me "homework" (exercises) to do to make things work better. When something flares up or I have a new injury he works on how to resolve the new issue. Because of this I am able to do Boot Camp four times a week and maintain a very active lifestyle. I am certain that without working with Tim my body would not be able to handle the workouts anymore.

I have been working with Tim over the past year for an injured shoulder. But Tim goes far deeper in his diagnosis which showed I favor one side of my body over the other and the fix was to strengthen that one side. The results have been incredible - my core is stronger and more balanced and that has reduced the stress on my shoulder. Before I could barely lift my arm to serve a tennis ball and now the strength in my shoulder has come back. Others would have gone right after the shoulder (probably suggested surgery) and that would NOT have solved the issue. Tim solves the real issue and cannot thank him enough. I continue to work with him for monthly tune-ups to ensure my body stays in balance. I highly recommend Tim !!!

After breaking my left ankle last year during my freshman volleyball season, I had been doing physical therapy for months. However it wasn’t until I started working with Tim where I noticed real improvements in not only my ankle, but also my hip and knee which had been compensated from my injury. I've been with Tim since at least 2016, we've worked through many injuries and he's helped my reach work out goals I would not have been able to achieve on my own. During 2016 we worked through some lower back issues from riding horses. Our work got really serious in 2017 when a fall off my horse tore my PCL and some tendons in my right knee. He was a huge part in that recovery. I got full range of motion without pain within 5 months of my injury and was riding again by 8 months. After that we focused on balancing and strenghtening around my knee to avoid me having to compensate and put more weight on my other leg. I ended up having another fall in 2019 on the same knee, strength training really helped me recover from aggravating the old injury. Early 2020 my knee was the strongest it has even been, we ended up being able to leg press over 300 lbs right before covid hit. When covid restrictions got put in place Tim was more than willing to meet virtually to keep my training up and provided advise for substitutional equipment since most gyms were closed. When restrictions lifted Tim was eager to get back to work in a gym setting and more than happy to rebalance muscles that I hadn't been able to feel or use properly. And since I went off to college in 2020, Tim has made time to work with me virtually and put programs together for me regardless of my constantly busy and chaotic schedule. Tim's ability to work with anyone through anything is something special, I know through my various injuries I was not always easy to work with but he constantly pushed me so that I could progress even after recovery. If my time with Tim has taught me anything it's that people of any age and all types of goals could benefit from working with him. Dealing with progressive chronic illness all my life has very real not only mental effects but physical effects of deterioration to my muscles and overall skeletal structure as a whole. I work with Tim, the owner who runs LivFit and I have to say I’ve never been more blown away with the results that I am seeing within my own body.

I've had ongoing rib stress fractures due to being an elite rower and have seen chiropractors, PT's, massage therapists, etc yet still struggle with keeping healthy while training full time. I am recovering from meniscus surgery and some other torn muscles and I've been going to Tim for about 5 months. I have had lower back pain since I was 17. I would wake up every morning in tears because the pain was so bad, and it would not go away no matter what I tried. I never knew what caused it or how to get rid of it until I was recommended to see Tim by my personal trainer. In 10 sessions, I was a new person. I was no longer in a debilitated state, and could do any and all activities without pain at the forefront of my mind. Fast forward 8 years, I had become a hairstylist in Los Angeles and was on my feet for 10-13 hours a day, 5 days a week. This took a significant toll on my body. I developed excruciating low back and hip pain, could not bend to pick things up off the floor, and winced every time I walked. I was no longer able to do activities I loved, such as hiking, working out, biking, and even doing hair as I could not stand for long periods of time. Living in CA and with Muscle System Specialists being unheard of... my options for relief were limited. I tried every pain relief approach possible including pain meds, seeing a chiropractor, acupuncturist, and an orthopedic surgeon who ended up diagnosing me with a labrum tear and left hip FAI. I was recommended surgery for this, with no guarantee that my pain would go away, and a high chance that I could be in worse shape than before There would be nights where my pain would be so bad, that I would highly consider going through with the surgery. When I moved back to CT I began seeing Tim again. Not only has the pain reduced, it is not something I have to think about on a daily basis anymore. I continue to see Tim to this day, and need more sessions than when I was 17 due to ageing and the state my body was in after my time in CA. Had I been able to see him sooner, my body would have been stronger and I would not have had to live in agony most of my early 20's. My advice to anyone experiencing pain, is to see Tim ASAP.

I have been fortunate throughout my life to not have experienced a lot of pain.
When I started to teach group fitness classes and got into my later adulthood I started experiencing more pain in my body.
A few months after the birth of my son I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve in my shoulder and sciatica. I was referred to PT, which wasn’t very helpful. My sister, who is also a client of Tim’s, always suggested I go to see him but I always had an excuse. I don’t have the time, the money, the motivation – whatever. I always had an excuse.
That all stopped the day my sister and I went skiing and at the end of a run she lifted her goggles and
there were tears in her eyes. Not tears of pain but of happiness because she couldn’t remember the last time she could ski without her knees being in pain. That was all I needed and I began my journey with Tim shortly thereafter.
In the beginning, it was about relieving pain in my back and knees but now we have a new mission.
Recently, I was told that I have no cartilage left in my right hip and need to have it replaced. I was
terrified with the prospect of needing surgery but I’ve realize that I have other options. I am pretty active and have gained a few injuries over the years.
I have always had flare ups with my lower back when being active. I never really had a solution except to apply ice and wait out the next few weeks of pain. Sitting up straight or getting up in the morning or just walking around the office. All of it caused a lot of pain in my lower back.
Tim nailed the root cause of this pain in a couple of minutes during one appointment and set me up with exercises that within a few days totally changed my situation. I could be very active and the pain did not come back. It’s crazy. Going from slightly stooped shuffling during the morning from the pain to —> no pain or stiffness in the morning.
As I’m writing this, it may seem a little too good to be true but Tim really understands how to diagnos the injury and explain how to help your body recover.
I’m not sure what would have happened if I had not met Tim. I am very thankful.

I "tweaked" my back in a spin class in October of '18, that degenerated into at times debilitating leg pain. At 54 on my way to 55 in the new year, I was fearful that my active life style was over or it would be severely compromised. Through a recommendation given to my wife, I found Tim.
Tim, to the uninitiated and this is my assessment, is a muscle, skeleton, movement specialist. His understanding of the human structure is so deep, that over a couple of sessions, he understood my areas of muscle weakness and we began to strengthen those areas. For me it was primarily the weakness in my hips, that was creating the pain in my legs.
We spoke about my physical activity goals as I get older. How I want my body to work as I age and if you are reading this, you know what I mean. Being active and pain free. Having the body work as nature intended.
Tim does not manipulate bones. He doesn't adjust the skeleton. He gathers information about your body through an in depth questionnaire, that includes a lifetime of activities and injuries. Then he pin points the area of weakness and builds strength from that point.
I am pain free and I am looking to pick up with Tim again after the summer to get even stronger. I missed the ski season with my family this year. I'm not missing another.

I started working with Tim in November of 2016. I came to him with chronic knee pain, chronic inflammation in my knee and poor range of motion. As a lifelong skier, I had struggled with knee injuries since my late teens (torn meniscus, torn MCL and arthritis) and chronic pain due to those injuries. I was only able to ski on a limit basis due to the pain and often would be unable to walk the next day due to both pain and inflammation. Two surgeries in approximately 6 years, multiple rounds of PT and was told my next surgery would likely be a knee replacement.
Within approximately 4-6 weeks of working with Tim, all my chronic issues had reduced so drastically and I found myself being able to ski without pain or inflammation. With consistent treatment from Tim, I am living pain-free, skiing a full season and even able to enjoy a ski vacation with 5-6 days of consecutive ski days symptom-free!
I never believed I would be pain-free again in my life but Tim has been a game changer. I am not only pain-free but no longer worried I will need a knee replacement by the time I’m 50 years old!

My son was a high level, multi-sport athlete most of his life. During the fall of his senior year of high school he sustained a serious hip flexor injury. He was the starting defensive midfielder on his high school soccer team and his team had their eye on the State Championship. I have had this haunting pain for almost a year which has hindered me from exercising as much as I used to. After seeing doctors and them telling me nothing was wrong, I decided to see Tim with LivFit as recommended by my ILoveKickboxing instructors. 5 months in and he has truly changed my perspective. I have learned so much about my body and how wrong I have been doing things my entire life. He is reteaching my body by using his muscle system care to work in the correct ways without feeling pain. We have managed my pain and have reached the point in my treatment where we are strengthening my body to help prevent any further injuries. I feel I am finally ready to get back on track with my health journey with everything Tim continues to show me.

I was recommended to Tim Livingston through a colleague. She has been working with Tim for a few years and she raved about the results that she has received for her knees and back pain. I was skeptical at first and after meeting Tim I discovered that his approach made sense and was very logical. He explained that he was going to evaluate my body and come up with a plan to restore the muscles that were not working well so that I wouldn’t feel the pain and sensations that were worrying me.
I’m an active person and have had multiple injuries and surgeries. I was limping around my office and thought my days of running would be over due to my hip fracture, knee fracture and arthritis in my knees.
I was amazed at what Tim was able to discover in my body and the fact that that he restored muscles to work again. I’m now happy to move without a limp and participate in running and working out! Thank you, Tim, and LivFit Muscle System Care. I highly recommend him and his level of care.

i went to tim with a sore rotator cuff- i did not need surgery but physical therapy was recommended

I am a big fan of MAT since it has helped me tremendously with neck and shoulder pain, and bad headaches. Tim has continued the work of my previous specialist. He is very comprehensive in his treatments and I have been feeling strong and pain free. The majority of our time spent together is strengthening the muscles in which I have some weakness. Tim has a very pleasant personality, and I enjoy my workouts with him. He is always checking my form and making sure I am doing every exercise correctly. If something is bothering me, Tim addresses it right away so it doesn't get worse. He is very knowledgeable about MAT and explains things to me in an understandable manner. If physical therapy and other therapies aren't helping, I highly recommend MAT and Tim as a specialist.

I was already a convert to MAT when I came to Tim, but am an even bigger fan of the practice since working with him. I describe MAT to my friends & family as magic, as it's literally miraculous to me that Tim can transform my body's threshold by touching a few key attachment points (i.e. that after a few palpations my body's threshold is so raised that I can resist force with close to zero perceived exertion).
I am a mid-distance runner with debilitating IT Band syndrome that has prevented me from running for three years, & thanks to Tim I am getting back into the sport I love so much. Tim was not only able to bring his expertise as an RX practitioner, but also his experience as a trainer & athlete himself. As we were on a tight timeframe (I have since moved cross-country where he was able to set me up with another MAT practitioner), I was able to complete the entire RX process with him, so Tim made it a priority to watch my form in lower body strengthening exercises like (lunges, speed skaters, squats etc.) & pinpoint where & why certain positions could be causing me pain. He then used his knowledge of MAT & the neuromuscular system to test & confirm his suspicions, & direct our focus to very specific muscle groups in my calf & hamstring. Tim then supplied my with assorted isometric exercises to target & activate these muscle before & after sustained activity. In each session & especially during the end of our time together, Tim pooled his vast knowledge of MAT & the body to tailor his treatment to my specific needs. I am so grateful for his flexibility & willingness to adapt his practices to my lifestyle.

A friend of mine worked with Tim awhile back and recommended him because he helped get rid of her hip pain. Tim first helped me get rid of foot cramps and neck pain. We then focused on building core muscle strength that allows me to hike and exercise again without knee pain. Tim is not only knowledgeable, he uses that knowledge to innovate individualized solutions, using muscle tests to track progress. He also pays close attention to make sure that I am doing homework exercises the right way to strengthen the impact of the treatment. Tim is consistently responsive, caring, and takes the time to make sure that I understand what he's doing and how that relates to how our bodies work. Tim has helped me to get back muscle strength and mobility after knee surgeries, shoulder surgery, and chronic back problems. Once I am released from physical therapy, it is Tim who works with me to strengthen and activate surrounding muscles at the injured sites. Through years of MAT education and experience, Tim has the knowledge and skills to correct muscle inactivity or imbalance. He has a desire to help each of his clients to regain their strength and movement, and he creates an atmosphere of learning and healing. He is professional, capable, and kind. I've been working with Tim for over 8 years now. When I first started, I was finishing up physical therapy for a long-term hip alignment issue. Within 2 or 3 sessions, I stopped going to PT and was back to running after a painfully prolonged break. I continued to come in every few weeks, especially as I increased my mileage, to reinforce the progress we'd already made. In the past, I'd be hit with one overuse injury or another as I approached 40-50 miles a week. Yet within 6 months of my first appointment with Tim, I was running 60-70 miles a week and feeling stronger than ever. A few months later, I smashed my marathon PR and completed my first ultra marathon.
In the years since then, I've continued visiting every few weeks to find and fix any muscle imbalances before they turn into injuries. Anything from a minor fall down the stairs to carrying my toddler around can throw my body off in ways too subtle to notice (until it's too late!). Tim not only identifies and addresses these imbalances, he explains them in a way that makes sense and provides exercises to reinforce his work. I'm currently 7 months into my 2nd pregnancy and still running daily, which wouldn't be possible without MAT.
I recommend seeing Tim to anyone who wants to get started - or to continue - living a more active lifestyle.

Tim has completely given me a new outlook on how to work out and how to take care of my body. I am a 20 year-old college student and CrossFit competitor who, until 6 months ago, trained only through crossfit programming. I initially reached out Tim to ask his opinion on whether or not I was over-training (2 hours/day, 5 days/week, on top of a summer job that had me on my feet 40 hours/week) and what suggestions he had. Obviously I was overdoing it, but not only did Tim answer my questions, he went way out of his way to help me design a new workout program to better help me reach my goals of becoming a crossfit competitor while putting less stress on my body and keeping me healthy. Coincidentally, about a week after I had initially contacted Tim, I was diagnosed with a large hematoma in my quadricep (specifically my rectus femoris) that he has also helped me recover from. Unfortunately I have never been able to do a hands-on session with Tim, but just from his knowledge and instructions that I can get over the phone, I have made significant progress in rehab and overall strength and mobility. I am now back to being able to do leg day again, but I am going about it with a much better and safer attitude than I would have had I not talked to Tim.
Tim has given me invaluable knowledge on how to put the body in the best anatomical positions when lifting. Ever since talking to him, I look around the gym at school on a daily basis and cringe at some of the movements other kids are doing and the unnecessary stress they are putting on their joints, and this new outlook I am fortunate to have at such a young age comes completely from Tim. He is truly one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated trainers I have ever met.

I have known Tim for years. I have had back and neck pain after 2 car accidents and 2 babies and Tim always finds the right muscles to treat through testing. I've learned that the area of pain is not always the area of weakness. After each incident I tried traditional physical therapy, but continued to be in pain and I lose strength and range of motion. I can walk in to the MAT session in pain and by the time I leave the pain is gone. Really. Over several sessions of MAT and guided resistance training, I gain strength and mobility and can get back to running and playing with my girls. He knows how to adjust a workout to build stability. Tim is patient, encouraging and knowledgeable. He really cares about helping people feel better and get back to doing what they love.

I had severely broken my ankle back in May of 2014 and had it surgically repaired with a plate and 9 screws. Traditional PT got me back up and walking but I was still so limited in my range of motion with regard to dorsiflexion and especially plantar flexion. Walking down stairs or down an incline was still a challenge. That all changed when I finally took the advice of a friend this fall and made an appointment with Tim Livingston at LivFit for MAT.
By the end of the first session I knew that I had finally found a treatment that would increase my mobility! Through MAT, my range of motion has increased dramatically and has remained in place without regression. I am continuing to work on strengthening and activating the muscles in my lower leg, ankle and foot by working weekly with Tim. He is a pleasure to work with, pushes me to new limits and always explains the science behind the treatment that he is performing. I would recommend him and MAT with reservation to anyone who is suffering from pain or mobility issues. He has made a difference in my daily life and I am certain that he would work diligently to do the same for you!
