Absolutely terrible gym. Attempted to cancel membership only to be charged the βyearly feeβ of over a hundred dollars stating we needed to submit in writing. Meanwhile desk staff told me to βtext to the managers after numerous in person attempts to initiate cancellationβ. Run down gym, terrible attitudes from desk staff. Happily joining a chain gym who sadly had better customer service than a locally owned business.

This gym and its managers Anna and SG donβt seem to care about its customers or its community. We called multiple times and even went to the location in person to cancel our membership. Every time, we were told a manager would call us backβand no one ever did. The only number we were finally given to reach a manager came after the date the annual fee was charged. Convenient timing.
On top of that, when a local high school student asked about a small donation for their sports program, the managerβs response was, βI have absolutely no interest in that,β with an eye roll and attitude. No one is obligated to donate, but speaking to a kid like that is just poor leadership and worse manners.
We genuinely wanted to support a local business, but the lack of communication and basic respect made that impossible. Our money is now going to a corporate gym that actually returns calls and treats people decently.

The one way of canceling your membership is via email. No one answers the email even after weeks.. random fees were charged to our account without anyone able to give us an explanation.

π« Warning About NHHR Gym π«
I need to share my terrible experience with NHHR gym. This place is completely outdated β the equipment is falling apart, the facility looks like it hasnβt been updated in decades, and the overall environment feels unsafe.
Whatβs worse is the way they handle their billing. Theyβre illegally upcharging members, adding fees that were never agreed to in the contract. They increase there membership, but have done no updates to the facility. When questioned about it, management dodges responsibility instead of fixing the problem.
Gyms are supposed to motivate and support your fitness journey, but NHHR is doing the opposite. If youβre considering signing up here, do yourself a favor and avoid it at all costs. There are plenty of gyms that actually care about their members and run their business honestly.
π‘ Members and potential members deserve transparency, safe equipment, and respect β NHHR provides none of that.

Worst gym experience, machines always out of order and cable machines have no attachments. Icing on the cake was when they tried to increase my monthly rate... If you're a member their read the fine print, they cannot increase you're rate just because. Beware of the guy SG he is terrible, lies lies lies. They kept charging me late fees and needed to update my payment every month, what an inconvenience. SG is a manager there and asks you to text him vs a phone call. Only thing good about that place is Ana that actually helped me cancel and offered me free months. Thanks but no thanks. PLANET FITNESS IS BETTER... SEEK ELSE WHERE

Facility is unorganized, staff didnβt know how to operate the ball machine & asked me (a first timer) how to use it? WOW. Then they change the structure so itβs for members only and itβs about $200/month for the tennis option? Highway robbery. Trumbull has more affordable tennis packages for all levels. Itβs a bit far but the staff are friendly & helpful. This place is overpriced for what they offer.

Outdated facility and hard to get in touch with management surrounding questions or concerns.
During my last visit, a few treadmills were out of order, along with the televisions out of order. It got the job done for a while, but you soon learn the cost of your membership + fees just does not match up to the quality of this location.
I called in to inquire on how to go about canceling membership and resolving any owed balance, and was referred to text and email the management team. I have yet to receive response since I reached out nearly 4 weeks ago.
If you're looking for a modern, up-to-date, and welcoming facility, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Seems like a great facility, but the programs for kids are definitely a mixed bag. The beginner tennis lessons are really just games, not really teaching tennis. My daughter did the summer camp last year, and it was fine, but they doubled the price this year and it's definitely not worth it.

Used to be a nice gym. The last year has changed. The staff members are rude and clearly donβt like being there. They donβt clean it anymore and they take it out on the members especially the night crew. They constantly change their business hours too.

Gym itself is not bad, but staff leave a lot to be desired they don't repair equipment. Hot water went out twice in a month, the men's sauna was broke for a month instead of fixing it they put up a sign almost mocking us. They pick and choose which rules to enforce the place gets packed with high school kids who horse play( laughing yelling flirting and even wrestling in the weight room) this obviously causes a potential safety issue, but nothing is done

Brought a racket to be restrung to NHHR. Racket had a sticker from the place I purchased it with the stringing tension and the date of purchase. I asked the stringer at NHHR if he could identify the string and string it at the same tension listed on the label. He could not identify the string. I got the racket back and used it the same day. The racquet seemed to me to be playing completely different than before he restrung it. The sticker with the purchase date and stringing tension had been torn off. I decided to take the racquet back to where I purchased it to see if they could figure why it played so differently and was told the following:
The string was about the lowest quality that can be bought and that he could not understand at all how someone who strings racquets could not identify the string that was on it originally. He then put a gadget on the strings that told him the racquet was strung at 50, although the sticker that was torn off by the stringer at NHHR stated it was originally strung at 57. He also said that there was absolutely no reason for the removal of the sticker, and that he would not ever consider doing that himself. The store where the racquet was purchased has multiple locations in CT and is considered very reliable and professional(based on reviews and opinions of fellow tennis players and customers). This review does not pertain to the facility as a whole, but if you need to get a racquet strung, my opinion would be to find a more knowledgeable and professional place to get it done.
Response from owner:
We apologize that you were disappointed with the results of how your racquet was strung! Our tennis pro has been stringing racquets for NHHR for over 20 years. We have never encountered any negative feedback.
My response to owners response:
That 20 year streak has ended...and badly. Owner can never say that again. A more appropriate reply would have been:
"I am sorry to hear that your racquet was strung incorrectly at NHHR. Our pro racquet stringer must have had a bad day and NHHR will gladly refund your payment for stringing costs. I will find out why pro did not pay attention to the label on the racquet that had the stringing tension and type of string that you requested and why he then tore that label off the racquet, subsequently stringing the racquet at 50 instead of 57, and why he used string that was described as "about the lowest quality that can be bought" by the shop where you purchased the racquet."
The shop where I purchased and had the racquet strung originally, competently restrung the racquet to the specifications requested. Picture shows the spot where the original sticker was torn off, and where the the new sticker was affixed. I cannot stress this enough...in my opinion, you should take your racquet to be serviced at a place where your equipment will be professionally serviced and not abused. NHHR is not that place.
It has come to my attention that "Nicole" posted a rebuttal to my review(read further down). She incorrectly assumes that because her racquets have been strung correctly by "Dennis", and that she has never heard anyone complain about "Dennis" that he could not have made multiple errors stringing and defacing my racquet. She also claims to not know what I am talking about. I assume she read my review to offer such a rebuttal, so that claim is completely disingenuous. It can be equally assumed that "Nicole" is either a shill reviewer for the club, a shill reviewer for "Dennis", or just a misguided do gooder.
Her rebuttal should have read...I have had my racquets strung for six years by "Dennis", and have never had or heard of a problem with his performance.
If by some circumstance "Dennis" made egregious errors with a racquet, then either the club, or "Dennis", should be more than happy to refund payment, or correct the problem to restore what I believe to be his stellar professional reputation. Seems "Nicole" is trying to put lipstick(disingenuous rave review) on a pig(NHHR racquet stringing disaster).

Love this gym! Everything is in the right spots and the place has a great atmosphere for working out! After lifting, I usually finish my workout on the indoor track which most gyms do not have. Had no problems with this gym other then its old and outdated but last year the manager dave physically assulted me for no reason. He had do right to put his hands on a minor since I was 17 at the time. Not to mention the rest of his staff isn't really the friendliest either. And after he put his hands on me he had shown no remorse what's so ever in fact he was criticizing me. I don't recommend this gym to my worst enemy.

I was very disappointed with this club's policy of charging the full amount of court time for an unexpected defualt to a tennis match due to severe illness. They essentially charged the defaulted players twice the match fees. Yes, it is every club's right to charge for court time but I've played at plenty of clubs where players who unexpectedly default due to emergencies or illnesses are given the benefit of the doubt and not charged for court time. This club could have at least just charged the players their own portion of the fees. Just goes to show that the club is only interested in securing as much $$$ as it possibly can without factoring in the well-being of the players.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! The place is old and outdated. The management is awful, they actually lied straight to my face with false promises! The owner specifically told me that when I went away on winter and summer break I could freeze my membership with no problem. This was NOT the case! In actuality you can not freeze the membership unless you have a medical condition. That is NOT how he explained it to me. I am a student and I would have NEVER joined if I could not freeze my membership. No matter what the owner says reread your contract because the owner is just another salesman trying to pitch his sale. HE is a LIER and will STEAL your money.

The place looks old and outdated, but my son like it (because his friends from school goes there). The only really complain I have it, is those 2 years TRAP contracts that they have it. I'm paying almost $70.00 from something that I did not even use it, and I could get for half of the price on a better place. but. its my fault that I signed. I hope that's helps you. Keep in mind. No FAMILY Contract (you going to regret it).
