The venue itself isn't bad but the summer camps for beginners are useless. It is definitely not what it is advertised to be. Very little or no fundamentals are taught to the kids. My daughter attend session 7 of the summer 2025 camps. The coach working with beginners had very low level of interest and was very unprofessional. He showed up in Sandals for one session and was yawning the so often. It was obvious he was 'just' doing a summer job to earn some extra money. Wouldn't recommend it to any beginner child

The coaches here seem to have figured out the perfect method for building disciplined athletes who know how to operate on the court. If you are serious about growth for your child in basketball, I highly recommend their programs.

The coach cheated by threatening the ref, told him that if he didnβt call for something theyβll be fired during one of the basketball games. Also the pizza was coldβ¦ sorta, waited over 5 minutes just for a cold slice of pizza. The cheese was hot but sauce, crust, and the bottom of the pizza was cold. Still hungry. π

Just spent the weekend here for a tournament and I have to say, as much as I love watching my kids play ball, I'm glad this one is over. Just felt like the staff were extremely rude - the big guy with the gray hair...rude when we arrived, yelling at people. The "security lady" who wouldn't allow a cup of water to bring in, who checked some bags, not all, wouldn't let us stand where we wanted to watch the game (not enough seating in this place) but we HAD to stand behind the blue line because of "drama" with parents in the PREVIOUS game. I felt like a child being bullied all day. The place was packed, hardly any room but got yelled at for standing here or standing there...the parking was crappy. Also, if you're a mom who happens to have any sort of a morsel of a snack or food in your bag, that gets taken away. Just seemed a little over the top. And god forbid I asked to have my wristband on my pocketbook rather than my wrist. HUGE NO for that.

I would give zero stars if I could. Blatant bias from the refs for home team. And no, itβs not about who won. Our girls played their heart out and were only down by 2. We did get pushed ( two hands from behind. - No calls from the refs. They had 6 players on the court. No call. They were bulldozed, pushed grabbed, hit.. no calls. However home team went to the foul line every time our girls went near them. Some were real fouls so were ridiculous! The assistant Coach was on the sidelines yelling to the refs on what to call. The facility was dirty and stunk. It was freezing in there. We drove over an hour sat and Sunday for the tournament. We will not be returning for final tournament. I will not give another penny to this guy! There are so many good facilities out there that care about the kids and their development. Donβt waste your time or money on this place!!

First time visiting and it was a great experience. The admission price for the basketball tournament was reasonable compared to other venues which charge double. The staff were friendly and appreciative, the concession items were good and fairly priced, and the courts and seating were very good. The referees did an excellent job and were very balanced in their calls and made a point of briefly and gently explaining to the young players the mistakes they made when they committed a violation. I would definitely recommend this place based on my first experience.

Just had an AAU tournament here. This place is a downright sham. The owner, coaches a team in the tournament and tells the refs to reverse calls during the game which they do. Worst officiating Iβve seen in kids sports. Save your weekend and book your event elsewhere!

MY FIRST EVER NEGATIVE GOOGLE REVIEW!!!!! Some people prefer not to have their name tied to a negative review but with the hopes that writing this review could prevent at least 1 child from having a similar experience to the one that my children had makes it totally worth it and I also feel a sense of obligation as a parent. The coach and director Katie was verbally abusive during the mini basketball clinic!!! Had kindergarten age kids running suicides for missing lay upβs and calling them βweak.β Screamed at the children during the clinic and even made 1 child cry. We personally know the families of 2 other children that attended the clinic and both were appalled by the coaching style of the director and wonβt be sending their child to any of the remaining clinics of the session. Just so so sad to see children have such a negative experience playing a sport that should be nothing but fun!!!

Our son has been playing for Coach Katie DaCosta for three seasons and we couldnβt be happier! He has developed and improved significantly thanks to her great coaching and she pushes all her players to play with integrity and passion. The facility is great with lots of seating areas for all courts and we absolutely love the family atmosphere!

There are not many locations in CT that can handle tournaments like CT Northstars, which allows for 3 courts running simultaneously in their state-of-the-art facility. With over 100 parking spaces in their upper and lower lots, a great concessions stand, and major talent from neighboring states that come to compete, I cannot recommend them enough. I believe they also host volleyball and soccer tournaments, but we go for the basketball!

Attended a tournament here and have never seen such biased calls toward the home team. It was blatantly obvious the refs are getting paid to make bad calls. This was more than a couple questionable calls, it multiple games with several refs making one sided calls. It is appalling that they have no integrity and attempt to throw childrens games. Other negative reviews indicate this is a pattern.

My daughter started with the Northstars when they were still at Buckley HS under Katie DaCosta. When we were called that they were moving from Hartford, I said βjust tell me where and whenβ. The DaCostaβs run an amazing program that is more than just a program. They truly care about the kids and the love of them game. During one of the Summer Tournaments the owners had to call the tourney due to the courts slippery conditions. My daughters team made it to the Chip and lost because of this being called. Was I mad? NO. Were the players mad? NO. It was about the safety of all the players. Now to those complaining about the refs. Let me tell you, theyβre an Independent entity and have nothing to do with the βhome teamβ. We all take our lumps and you win some you lose some. Are there games that we feel are called wrongβ¦of course, but thatβs the game and it is what it is. You move on like an adult.

As the Director of another local AAU program, I have nothing but respect for the Northstars organization. They have a beautiful multi sport facility and offer sports schedules for kids year round. I would recommend everyone visit the facility. Iβm one of many local programs who put teams in their leagues and tournaments throughout the year. Iβve also encouraged my players to attend camps and clinics there. Very well ran, top notch program.

Katie is the best! Hands down, the best!!! My son, who is a sophomore, has been with her since he was in second grade. He has had multiple opportunities to go to other programs, ones that are a heck of a lot closer to our house, but she is my son's ride-or-die coach and we would travel hours to have her coach. She gives him and her players 110% of herself. She is a strong woman who some may perceive as being agressive, but watch her coach! This woman knows what she is doing. She is better than any high school coach or AAU coach I have ever seen. She offers good and fair competition despite what other reviews may say. Her facility is great with plenty of seating, a snack bar and television to keep people entertained between games, and refs that do the best they can. If you think a ref is being unfair, I suggest you wait until after the game and discuss it with Katie. I've personally seen her get rid of refs who she thinks are substandard. And if you are looking for an AAU coach, consider trying out for the Northstars. You will not find a better coach anywhere.

Northstars is a great program which is focused on fundamentals and growth. They promote integrity, good sportsmanship, and team first concepts. The facilities are clean, and leagues and tournaments are well organized. I have two kids in the program and they have grown so much in the last 2.5 years. Highly recommend the program and the facility!

All of these 1 star reviews with individuals referencing biased referees are simply disgruntled teams or parents who didnβt have things go they way they deemed appropriate. My children have been NorthStar players since the days of Buckley High School in Hartford. My children have ALWAYS been held to the same standards as any other player on that court. Sooo many times have I not necessarily agreed with a call that was made, but then again we parents arenβt officials. Thats why weβre on the stands, right? Smh. Grow tf up people.

My daughter learned so much more than just basketball since sheβs been playing for Coach Katie. Sheβs learned to be more confident, has made lifelong friends that are family to her, has so many experiences being in this organization. Sheβs grown so much and her game has reached such a amazing level. Sheβs treated so well and loved and has the best time and has made so many memories so far and so many more ahead.
This group of coaches are amazing and if you wanted to have your child learn the game of basketball, they will learn that and much more than you can imagine. Youβre going to be very happy if you do and your child will get so much from everything they will do here.

This complex and the owner are an upstanding complex/company. The Connecticut Northstar Staff are nothing short of professional. Unfortunately, a few bad seeds have to have poor sportsmanship and try to focus their attention on the complex rather than the game.

From a parent perspective, the CT Northstars program was exactly what my son needed. The coaches and staff provide an environment that not only helped my son grow as a player but as an individual. Discipline, respect, and love for the game. I would recommend this program to any parent or caregiver looking to help their child mature into an adult that respects themselves, others, and the game.

Horrible place to have basketball tournaments. Refs are clearly biased towards the home teams. Do not do that to you hard working basketball players. Not a good place at all. Do NOT sign your kids up for this league or have them play at this facility. The owners of the facility pay their refs to cheat so they can win games. Multiple teams, players & coaches have complained about this. Our boys were getting hit in the face and their refs didnβt call it. One of my kids now have a black eye and had to go to the hospital, and their ref called a foul on him! Utter favoritism going on at this place. Do not do that to your kids! Awful place!!

AAU basketball teams looking at reviews, take my advice and invest your money into other tournaments. Refs at this facility are clearly biased for the home teams. One ref actually jumped up/down and celebrated when the home team won a tight game. Not to mention, they just use the honor system for ages. Our kids were playing against others that were easily 2 years outside their age bracket.
We had a tournament here a few weeks ago and they shut down the entire weekend a day early because the facility was too humid and the floors were too slippery. I understand that is a safety issue, but did they refund the spectaror's money? NOPE
They charge $8 per day for spectators. No weekend passes. Any other venue will allow for a discounted weekend pass. Just not a good experience here. Won't be back.

Referees are terrible if your team doesn't play for the complex Referees side with the home team all calls go to the sports plex teams its so obvious happened twice already same team same refs last year and this year they should be embarrassed for themselves and the complex the end of games refs congratulating complex teams with hugs and high fives visitors get no good game or anything from the games refs and too charge 8 bucks to watch this disgusting display of sportsmanship maybe the should follow up on the word neutral

Hello: How about some serious Jewish Education out here in the Valley? I'll bet it would be well attended. Get Rabbi Y. Adler --a major scholar--- to set up a program in Canton. Anything he teaches will be serious and valuable. How about Rabbi C, Rubin of Agudas Achim: any course he gives will be first rate. Why is it that 40 years ago this community had scholars like Altman, Gotein, Cecil Roth and now we have lectures on varicose veins and how to invest your whatever. Perhaps that all indicates how far we have come in assimilation and maybe is a good social marker but on the other hand if we are ---supposedly---the people of the book..........I just read your list of Directors and there are some fine and highly-educated minds there.......... Thanks for listening to me.
----Sidney Sisk , Architect -- AVON CT
p.s. It was a great idea to establish a JCC satellite center out here and whoever is responsible deserves great credit. Between Avon and Torrington going westerly there are a great many Jews who will be drawn to the satellite center in Canton. I even think we could get a minyan going there eventually....maybe.
