Overall, the best planet fitness in south eastern CT, but not perfect.

The equipment is usually better models and in decent shape. (In Norwich, for example, the models are like meant for special populations...very rudimentary)

The staff here is unpredictable though. Many are genuinely nice. A couple of them felt ingenuous, often. If youre keen to noticing fake smiles & hellos then you might off-put once in a while.

Members in groton generally don't intimidate others or pay much mind to each other. So the workout experience is pretty good. Most mainstream gyms have a couple members that do, this one's not immune to that, unfortunately, but

We go to a gym to workout so overall it's usually the best for that around here.

Greedy Corporation, Risky Business Practices. Tried to sign up, as I’m going to be in and out of town for the next few months just a basic membership for a month after fees would run me over 100$(59 signup fee 10 monthly fee and 40 for the annual fee) in addition when I went to signup they need both my card and bank account details through their app (they won’t do it themselves) and it can only be done on their PUBLIC Wi-Fi network. I tried on data. but the site gave error and flagged as fraudulent the second time I opened. Overall they’ve got no interest in my business and asking to put my bank details in on a public network is begging me for someone to steal my details. Until their practices change avoidhere.
Update 10, 2025: Tried to join again, app doesn’t work with my phone and they don’t provide scan cards anymore in addition to still wanting my private bank information. I have never spoken to a staff less motivated to get a member join.

The manager Naya, is very unprofessional and rude. You cannot ask to speak to management above her head, she will refuse. I have been trying to cancel my Planet Fitness Membership because it has not been used once. When she said she couldn't resolve my issue herself, I asked to speak to whomever is above her head in management to figure out a solution. She continued to speak over me, to which she requested I leave the store, instead of complying with customer service regulations and/or providing me information to connect with alterior management.

Good gym for the price point. Packed on peak hours but mostly no wait times for non-peak hours. Lots of machines, especially cardio. Only gave 4 stars because not 24/7 from friday to sunday and not enough hand sanitizers to go around.

A very clean well run gym I must mention the manager Naya so much energy a very nice welcome when I came in she didn’t stop the whole time I worked out cleaning and lubing the equipment taking care of the front desk telephones, this woman did it all. This gym is very lucky to have her.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has suggested on the Groton Planet Fitness Center get a bottle filling water station like the one in Norwich has. Sure would be nice to have a bottle filling water station. The Benches for the free weights are way to close to the machines that are there.

I’m sure I’m gonna get a response about being sorry to hear this from this place but the truth is they don’t care, cancelling a membership here is just ugly. Between being on hold, talking to automated voices, emailing random email addresses where they don’t get back to you, it is simply bad business to make it incredibly easy to sign up and an absolute pain to cancel your membership.

The fitness center is great however I do have a few complaints. 1) they have a tracker to track cardio but you can't track the other machines you use. I would like to just be able to track my progress with the app for all equipment not just cardio. 2) I go to the gym and out in the open they have a bag bundle with a gym back towel water bottle and you get a lock they say the price and the sign is right in the open advertising the bundle but yet they continue to tell me EVERY TIME THAT THEY DO NOT SELL THE BUNDLE. IF YOU ARE HAVING A SIGN ADVERTISING IT THEN THEY SHOULD LET YOU PURCHASE A BUNDLE OTHERWISE TAKE THE SIGN DOWN.

Staff makes a great effort in customer service. For $10 a month how can anyone complain? The equipment and the facility is kept up pretty well. My only complaint is, please lower the music volume in the locker room, or remove altogether , and shower heads (like all work out places) are so so...I worked in a health club and purchased on my own a great shower head, installed it myself, the tips came flying in,,,give the public what they want, it only cost me $20 to get over $200 from grateful customer tips...

I live full time in a skoolie while traveling the country, planet fitness is my go to for a long hot steamy shower that isn’t limited by my tank size and fuel levels. This review is my personal comparison having been to tons of other planet fitness locations and based entirely on the quality of the locker room and shower facilities.

First. This place was packed! The receptionist was friendly and gave me a warm greeting

Second. This was the cleanest PF locker room that I have seen in months! a feat that must not be easy considering the amount of people in the gym.

I’m giving this place five stars because the staff deserves the recognition. However management/ownership you only get four stars. Minus the shower pans, This location has all of the high end trim and is set up really nicely…. Why are there broken lockers? You have the volume so reinvest the money into keeping the place as nice as it first was! The staff is attentive enough and I’m sure a few hinges won’t break the bank. You’re so close to being one of the best in the country! Just fix it!

Little overcrowded but it is a public fitness center and I respect everybody trying to get in and get their workout in. I gotta ask the question though. Their door says 24/5. Which. It's a gym. It has everything that you need equipment wise but some may be turned off by the lack of classes. You can't beat what you get for the price though. Only one complaint they say they're judgement-free but that's kind of a lie. They have posters up indicating that bodybuilders aren't welcome. so I guess they want you when you're a fat slob but by the time you work off all the extra weight and build some muscles they don't want you anymore.

Other than my little rant there, for the most part they pretty much have everything you'd want for a workout. No free weights for bench pressing though which sucks but you can't complain for the price.

Edit: unfortunately they've recently been very slow in getting broken equipment repaired. certain machines have been down for over a month. hopefully they address this soon.

Mine and my husband's yearly fee was taken from my bank account twice. 4 charges of $67.11 which resulted in two over draft fees with my bank. After fighting with them for a week and finally being told 2 of the 4 fees would be returned to my account, the manager at the Groton branch decided to return ONLY ONE to my account "as a one time courtesy" leaving my account $67.11 + a $30 fee still short. My bank was nice enough to return the one fee for the one credit my account received. Still mad a month later because that was pretty messed up. DO BETTER FOR YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS.

I have been going here as my home gym on my personal wellness journey for the last two months and it is always clean, staff always super friendly, kind and willing to help if you ask, plenty of equipment/machines and non-machines for the workout plan that I am on. 99% of other gym goers are pleasant and regardless of body size or fitness level you are welcome -- plus the spa is fab. I have a home gym but drive 25 mins every day to use the stair stepper here. While there is almost always at least one broken machine, 3 out of 4 of them have been down for close to a month (impossible to get on the one working machine) and the 4th one is out of service as of today. The staff is amazing and the facility is clean and up to par but there is no reason for me to continue to come to this location if the machines are always going to be out of service. If you come to the gym hoping to get in some steps, this gym is not for you.

The paper towel dispensers are out often, there is no water bottle fountain like most plants fitnesses; most members bring their own LARGE water bottles and the current bubblers won't fill them up even half way. Im already canceling my brand new black card membership very soon! I have been a member of powerhouse gym since 1998 and have never once been bothered or harassed by the staff and also the misleading starting costs and then trying to take extra payments between scheduled payments and then not owning up to anything. It's such a horrible ace to work out it is demotivating and of your not friends with staff then all the no judgement rules apply to you and that's all. Their friends and people are exceptional from the lame and pathetic rules they have there. Im so disgusted with this gym I want to throw up thinking about it. Been coming back to PF since mid-Aprill 2023. The Groton location is AWESOME! It's a huge location with all the machines, always clean and constantly kept clean by the amazing staff! I always enjoy being sooo warmly welcomed and treated by Darius, Nya and new staffer, Kobe. You guys rock! You guys work hard to keep the gym nice AND all staff have been friendly and super helpful. This is definitely a more compact planet fitness. They have an overall good selection of equipment to choose from, whether it be cardio or strength training. I can only say from the woman's locker room, but I truly enjoy this one's out of the few I have been to in the surrounding areas the best. It is clean well set up, and there is more than one changing room across from the showers. They have a drain in front of the showers wich helps keep the floor from becoming to slippery. I don't see that in all of the planet fitness. It can get full easily here it is not thier biggest location. But definitely a good place to workout.

Facilities are very clean, the staff is very approachable and helpful, and the clientele is very friendly. The only reasons I give 4 stars instead of 5 are: (1) while this Planet Fitness is open 24 hrs Monday through Thursday, it closes at 9 on Friday and at 7 on Saturday and Sundays - wish the weekends were until 9 and (2) the gym and the locker rooms could be bigger. This gym is packed and could use the extra space.

For $10.00/month, you really can't beat this Planet Fitness and I would 100% recommend it.

The worst experience with ‘customer service’ I’ve ever experienced. (It deserves zero stars but that wasn’t an option) Good luck ever canceling your membership because they’ll make it as hard as possible and then tell you you’re wrong. We are a military family and moved from the area over a year ago when I tried to cancel my membership in person. We moved, I noticed I was still being billed so I called. I was then told I had to email and was given an email address I wrote down and sent the email with my name and birthdate stating I need to
Cancel. Now we have still been getting charged but now on my husbands credit card, how? My husband called and emailed and we have now both spoken to Michelle. Michelle has not only told me sorry we can’t do anything about it even though I forwarded my original cancelation email to her today she says ‘oh the email is wrong’ even though that is the one I was given. Not only that but she decided to cancel my membership as of today and send me a bill for $24.55. This location of planet fitness and Michelle have got to be the worst I’ve been treated by ‘customer service’ members. I would never recommend going to this location and encourage you to look up so many other who have been given the runaround on canceling and still being charged. This seems like a very shady operation to get more money out of customers by telling us, the customers, that we are wrong.

I️ worked out with a friend with a day pass. I left something there and a few days later I went to pick it up from lost and found. I️ drove over 45 min to pick it up and just needed to use the bathroom. The rude manager at the front desk wouldn’t even let me because it’s “not a public restroom”. That was the last time i’m going to planet fitness and it ruined any chances of me wanting to get a membership in the future if you can’t even let a guest use the bathroom.
