*EDIT* I made my review three stars before they added a late fee with absolutely no grace period. My payments are usually pending to come out of my account and during that time they charge the $20 late fee. Now the staff works with me waving the fee which is great but they since added a policy that they can't do that anymore. They're ripping people off. Don't get me wrong, I love the people and the staff but if this keeps up, I am cancelling my membership.

So I've been going to planet fitness for a good year now and the first thing I noticed was a "judgment free" gym but under the Lunk Alarm is a completely judgmental example quote for what a lunk is.
A lunk is described as built guy with a workout tank top that lifts heavy weights and slams them. But that type of guy is who has encouraged me to keep going to a gym, any gym and lose weight.
Now I put three stars up because I don't see this gym as a bad gym but I don't like the fact that there is no bench press or deadlift platform. Building lean muscle is what you need in order to lose fat weight and deadlifting, squatting and benching will get you there.
So overall, it's a good gym but they need to get over this weird thing about judgment free zones. In any other gym, if someone is being bullied they have their membership revoked. So those gyms are judgment free as well.
Also, get rid of the lunk alarm. It's weird and completely judgmental.

Have been coming here for a little over a month and the staff are always friendly. The environment feels inclusive, the bathrooms are clean, the equipment gets fixed quickly, the workout area is clean. Appreciate the effort put into this location.

I come here on average 4 times a week and like advertised it's a judgment free zone. The black card membership is definitely worth it for all the perks that you get (spa, discounts, and more). The only slight negative if anything is that it can get busy at times and you may have to wait to use a machine, but that's the case in any gym really. Would absolutely still recommend this PF, and have no doubt that I'll be coming here for the foreseeable future.

Gym is kept in good condition but I don’t think the bulbs in the tanning booths have ever been changed, because they literally don’t do anything. I’ve worn a bathing suit to test if a tan line even occurs, and it never does. Between that and not being 24/5, this is one of the lesser PFs I’ve worked out at.

We go every morning here. The staff are friendly and the place is clean with new equipment. The showers and bathroom are always clean and the other customers in the morning are friendly and focused on their workouts.

We still come to this gym every morning, but it has been really hot as of the last few weeks. A lot of us have spoke to the team members at the front desk and they state the thermostat is locked out per the owner to save a few dollars. The hot temps make a damn good workout miserable due to sweating and humidity. If the owner could please allow the workers to adjust the temps that would be amazing! We want to continue working out here, but with these 100° summer days, a non-adjustable thermostat is not safe or fair for the customers. A lot of us have black member cards and don't use any of the amenities, we're just there to get a good workout, please help us. Thanks!

I unfortunately had to cancel my membership due to being pregnant and having a few complications. But the team leader Ty Was such an amazing employee! Anytime I try to cancel a gym membership all places make me feel like I am an awful person for doing so. This club is not only affordable. It is welcoming and friendly. The staff is very likable and helpful. Only one visit in, but seems like a solid gym. It's clean and well maintained. Didn't notice any out of order machines. Plenty of different types of workout areas. They do not have free weights for squats/bench, no barbells, smith machines only. They do have dumbbell sets though.

I love this PF! I primarily go to OrangeTheory Fitness because i love the coaches and the variety of workouts in a group setting. I joined PF to supplement my OTF training. This one in Middletown is bright, clean, and beautiful. They have everything i need for a good full body workout, including TRX (my favorite). Staff are super nice. I won’t run on the treadmills because they don’t have flex deck and there’s a big difference in running on a treadmill with and without flex deck but I’m thrilled with the stair stepper and rowing options.

One question-is there a reason why there’s a limited amount of lower weight dumbbells? The big boy racks seem to be filled but it’s slim picking if you want a lower weight like 15, 10, 5 etc. Step benches would be nice as well.

This PF is so clean, bright and well organized. I loved how friendly the staff was when I asked questions about certain features they had that others dont. I live in Wallingford, so I usually go to the Meriden location, but not anymore. Whoever spaced out the equipment here did a fantastic job. The Meriden one is very closed in and cluttered. I actually started coming here two days ago and I live in Meriden. The Meriden planet fitness is gross. Machines need to be replaced they are old and squeaky. Not to mention it’s dirty in there too. Staff doesn’t care. Definitely not friendly they just do the bare minimum. I really don’t know how that branch stays open. I have complained about the customer service and someone actually called me but nothing actually happened. It’s fine though I will be coming to your facility where the machines are brand new and clean! Staff is nice they don’t act like you’re bothering them if you ask to go tanning. If I could give 0 stars I would, listen to this:
I went in and cancelled my membership April 17th, per contract. I didn't take down the name of the man who cancelled it, as at that point, I trusted this company. We had a whole conversation about why I was cancelling, because I got access to a free gym through my employer. I signed the pad and he told me I was all set. I asked him if I needed a receipt or something on paper. He said "You're all set, enjoy the rest of your day". SPOILER ALERT, HE LIED.
I went about my business after that. It's three months later and I happened to see a charge from PF. Looked back and they have been charging my bank account consistently.
-I called yesterday, 8/7 and first spoke to Michael. I explained my situation. Michael said "I'm gonna be honest with you, I can talk to the people at the front desk, but they're probably not going to refund it." I said that doesn't work for me, as I have fulfilled my contractual obligations and this happened due to incompetent staff.
-At that point I asked to be transferred to the manager and then spoke to Jakim. Jakim cancelled the membership at that point, and I insisted on a receipt of the transaction for my records. He sent it. When I told him I wanted a refund as again, this was PF's error, he placed me on hold, returned, and informed me that his regional manager, Josh Hassilvine (may be misspelled) was going to call me. I never received the phone call, as promised.

The take-aways here:
-This gym, like all other gyms, are operated by wolves in sheep's clothing.
-They require your bank account as their form of direct payment, because when these situations happen, and they swindle people, they know banks are unlikely to refund the charges.
-If they try to tell you that you won't need a receipt for something, INSIST on a receipt. You MUST document everything with these people!!!
-They depend on customers to be distracted by life, so they will not catch the money being stolen from their accounts.

Last and most importantly, DON'T ENTER A CONTRACT WITH PLANET FITNESS!!!!
- I offer, as an alternative, the 100% FREE fitness app called FITON. No wolves, No fees, EVER!!! No dirty, sweaty machines, No gauging an extra $80-$100 out of your account for no reason other than it's in a contract. Endless options for workouts, and you don't even have to leave your home to workout! It's life-changing. Listen to me!

This gym is amazing and very well managed for being a newer club. For starters the atmosphere of this gym is very nice, friendly, and welcoming. There’s nothing intimidating about this gym at all which is important because most people avoid gyms due to an intimidating environment. The other members are very friends and sometimes friendly conversation strikes up between members which is so lovely. The gym is always clean and well maintained. Unlike other gyms this does not smell like a gym LOL. Lastly all the employees are phenomenal. They never fail to greet a customer or wish them well on their way out. My family and I have had a membership at planet fitness for almost a year now and it has been great up until we moved to Middletown and started going to the planet fitness there. They are very rude, controlling and make our time they’re not enjoyable. There has been a few times already where we left and went to Southington. There is one lady there (i think she is the manager but im not sure) dark skin and dark features with glasses but she is very rude and has to even control you scanning your code to get it (as if she hasn’t seen us a million times) definitely recommend skipping out on middletown and going to southington, they are more than nice there.
