On October 7, 2025, at 6am, I attended this gym for the first time as a guest. We were greeted by a cheerful, bubbly, and welcoming receptionist.
We were also being given the RBF from the employee behind her, leaning against the counter, oozing "I can't be bothered!" vibes.
When cheerful turned to RBF for assistance in my guest checkin, RBF grabbed the tablet off the counter, which was still attached to the charging doc and plugged into the wall, whipped around ripping the entire package off the counter and out of the wall, and needed it all to the floor! RBF then looked at cheerful, pointed at the floor, did not say a word, and made cheerful pickup the pieces RBF yeeted to the ground! Still without a word, RBF asked for my information. I then looked at cheerful and loudly announced, "THANK YOU FOR PICKING THAT UP FOR HER!" RBF did not even acknowledge cheerful, nor my comment, nor her absolutely entitled rude behavior! The member I was with asked RBF if she was the manager, and she replied, "No, the manager is out on medical leave." We obtained her name, which is REMZA, and rest assured, when we returned today, she was at the counter, same stance, but gave us "the stink eye" instead of any sort of greeting. Cheerful was there to welcome us again. I recommend that everyone who visits this gym, shows REMZA the courtesy of learning FAAFO! #bet

Had memberships at gyms for 30 years. I would rate this above average. Depends on your needs. Cardio pretty good. Weights average to slightly below. Plyometric minimal. Equipment in average to above average condition. Members are fine. More older people then most gyms but near heritage village no surprise but no problem.
One word of advise. While they maintain an average to above cleanliness I did get a fungal infection from gym. Now I will say I got one a decade earlier from another gym so can't blame them exclusively but make sure you wear shower shoes and full body rinse off after workouts.

The people are pretty nice here. Overall I haven’t no issues with the environment. However, I think there are way too many elliptical machines and useless machines I never see anyone use - yet there are only 4 stairclimber machines. Of these 4 machines there are only two working currently. These are high traffic machines that like myself, a good handful of people use at the gym. I would hope in the near future to see more of these machines to prevent people from needing to stand around and wait for one to become available.

Upon entering, there's always a crew member waiting with a wonderful warm smile. Whenever I have a question, there's no hesitation to assist me with my questions. The crew @ the Southbury location are very attentive to the customers instead of their phone.

The elderly members are pretty rude and don’t wipe machines typically and tend to talk and hover over the very few machines they have. It’s a cardio gym pretty much it. Locker room is kinda gross too. Desk staff is nice about the only redeemable thing about the place.

I would like a call from the district manager! You all charged me double and refuse to refund it!!! That is stealing!! Robert is very unprofessional and arrogant. Please beware before you give any account information to these dishonest people. I have been a member of several different planet fitness and this Southbury one seem to not be ethical!!! gym needs more accessories for the pulling machines, very bare-bones here. I’ve been to planet fitness locations from coast to coast, never seen one with such a minimal number of handles for the cables. Also; please get a second bench for the men’s locker room. One isn’t enough.

My husband is a gym goer there. He doesn’t carry his phone while working out. I was having a medical emergency earlier today and tried to call the gym multiple times and no one answered. (Mid day) Thankfully a family member works close by and ran over there to let my husband know what’s going on. Do better Planet Fitness. Answer the phone when it rings. It’s not hard. I’ve worked in retail and in offices before. The person in front of you can hear that the phone is ringing. They can see that you’re on the phone. Phone first, then people. If there’s a huge line, take their number and call them back. Common sense.

It’s quite easy to figure out a solution, hire another person. If that can’t be done, then make sure they do their job by answering their phone. From my understanding not many people were there. My family member who isn’t a member of the gym walked right past the front desk and into the gym. They weren’t even acknowledged, let alone stopped. That’s a safety issue right there for a number of reasons.

I love coming here everyday it feels welcoming and not intimidating. I used to be so anxious to go to the gym because everything looked so complicated and crowded, but this place barely has a lot of people, and when they do have people, everyone's doing their own thing. It's very clean and the equipment seems fairly new. The bathrooms are sparkling. There's nice signs around that say things like "you belong," which actually made me feel better and more motivated. Love it here!

Have been a member for several years, really just to supplement when I can't work out outside IE: Winter months. The membership is affordable and I like that (with the Black card) I can go to other locations, sometimes even on the same day if my schedule permits. Wide variety of machinery, including the 30-minute muscle training workout space. Typically, I use the treadmill or elliptical. I have no excuse but to exercise year-round; rain and snow are no excuse!
I love that I can bring a guest, or refill my water bottle, too when on the go.

Third time in a month the gym hasn't opened up at 5am. But they are quick to take your money out of your account. Something needs to be fixed maybe the manager or owner should be covering for call outs. Some people can only make the gym at 5am if you need to open later due to staffing issues change your gym time, This isn’t fair to the members there’s consistently 15-20 people there every morning waiting in the parkinglot. Maybe corporate should know about this it’s a common thing at this gym lately.

I've been to most planet Fitness in CT and this one is by far my favorite. It's clean the employees are friendly. The manager is very knowledgeable and the other members are really nice. It's not as big as others, but it has everything we need for the best workout and results for anyone.

I've been going to the gym for more than 35 years; I have been a member of most of the surrounding fitness centers and found that Planet Fitness offers me more of what’s important to me than any other fitness center. What’s important to me is customer service, friendliness, cleanliness, a good variety of exercise machines, free weights, and reasonable prices. They also offer other perks which is like icing on the cake.

I just want everyone to be aware that they will automatically renew your membership and not refund your annual fee, even if you no longer use their service. They give you the run around, saying they can’t issue a refund, give you a 1-800 number that redirects you back to them. Then an email address that just kicks back as wrong address. They are taking advantage of teenagers that aren’t aware of the renewal date, and don’t receive any notification prior. Please go elsewhere, the facility is below par and customer service is non existent

I always feel at home whenever I visit planet fitness Southbury. The members of staff are excellent. Especially Tylor. I nearly past out today after using the treadmill for an hour without stopping . To my surprise, she came to serve me a drink ( Gatorade) . That was an act of kindness I’m really thankful for. You guys make up a great team. Keep it up 👍.

This is a particularly nice PF. The machines are well-placed so you feel like jumping right in and working out. Machines were up to date, easy to use and machine spacing was Covid compliant. The ladies restroom is not only clean but posh. The gym sparkled and the staff and members were courteous. My favorite PF yet!

I’m giving 3 stars because it’s very clean and staff very nice. Bathrooms are immaculate. Personally for me there is not enough weight lifting equipment or free weight. With that being said. If you are just doing cardio training I would give it a 5. Especially for 10.00 a month.

Great place for work out. But when are they going to start opening up more lockers and more machines. It would be nice if they don't require a mask, if your fully vaccinated with proof of course. Also I wish they would go back to those ID tags for your keychain.. I love love LOVE planet fitness in Southbury before covid. I could go late at night when I got back from work (I don’t work typical 9-5) and get a good workout in. Additionally, the staff here are always super friendly and are constantly wiping down equipment.

I have started tentatively going back into my gym (Southbury). I was happy that a lot of machines were closed off to maintain social distancing, but the hours are different so that the club closes at 10pm instead of 11pm (I REALLY needed that extra hour at night).

The only people actually wearing a mask is the staff. Other members walk around freely without a mask (which is fine if you’re in your own private space at your machine, but NOT okay when you’re walking 2 feet away from me and you see that I’m visibly upset) and I have had several men step in purposely close to me for NO reason and violate the 6 foot distance rule.

I really love how clean it is and how friendly the staff are, but I am a bit upset that the masks aren’t more strictly enforced and other members aren’t social distancing (which I totally understand the actions of the members are not Planet Fitness’s responsibility). I really wish you guys would open back up to the regular hours, or at least have that bar graph that shows the how busy the location is at a certain time.

Having a black card I have gone to many CT PF locations, but this one is pretty much up there with the best. They also have 3 hydro massage beds/chairs which is a plus and one more than all the others. I was iffy on going to the gym mid pandemic but this location is fairly vacant most of the time. All in all I’m satisfied with not having to drive to Waterbury for my workouts.

Black Card member since October 2019. Friendly staff. Always very clean. Not terribly crowded most of the time. For the price you pay it's a major win. Everyone who is complaining about professionalism of staff, I have a hard time believing. As far as the cancellation policy goes, that's pretty standard for most gyms. Read your contracts people. Would be great if there were free weight barbell options, but I'm not sure if any Planet Fitness has that sort of equipment. 5/5 stars.

Southbyry. It's a shame you choose to make it so hard to cancel. Certified letters or USPS mailed letter to cancel are just uncalled for.Take a customer call, verify identity, cancel the agreement and wish people well. We'll be back. Don't use have a policy that makes it difficult to cancel while you just keep billing. You know we need to cancel. You know we are not coming. You will lose customers forever. Especially in a business where customers go hot and cold on gym memberships. You also show no sense of community when you burn your neighbors. Make it easier to cancel. This is not helping you.

Bait and Switch - My teenage son signed up for their free teen fitness program in July (see attached) and since then he has been charged $160 for 4 months membership he didn't even sign for. Called the manager, but they will NOT agree to reimburse - do the RIGHT THING Planet Fitness, this is a nice town!

Live the gym and the staff, however the Tanning “bed”bulbs on the bottom need changing. I went in twice now and was freezing both times when I got out. I mentioned it to the staff after both times tanning. I had to go tan elsewhere just to warm up.I hope this fats corrected soon. I enjoy the full use of a gym and all that it has to offer.

I wasn't a big fan of planet fitness until I stopped in on a Sunday and I was surprised on how clean the environment was and friendly the staff was and very helpful. I wasn't planning on signing up but I did cuz I was very impressed with everything. Blair was so helpful and answered every question I had and that's one reason why I signed up and my niece signed up also. We were both very happy from the moment we walked in and was welcomed by Blair.

I would like to say that is is amazing to have a great gym that I can go to and enjoy working out and meeting great people. The facility is very clean. I see them always walking around making sure things are addressed. I watched a guy get up and walk away from a machine and the trainer pick up a wipe and make sure it was cleaned for the next person. You do not get that at every planet fitness. The layout is perfect and the machines are top notch. Glad this place opened catalyst was not even that great and a lot more money. The other thing that makes this place great is the staff. They smile and do not mind helping. If your looking to workout and have a great environment to do it you will not be disappointed.

Its only $10 a month if you commit to a whole year. There is a sign-on fee and a separate "yearly fee" that they charge after only two months. Of you want out of your year commitment it is almost 60 bucks.
10 bucks a month? Lies. And all that for what is 2/3 cardio.
After only 5 weeks there I go to cancel and they claim that I have been there 2 months so i have to pay the yearly fee in order to cancel. The place hasnt even been open two months!
